Music is a usual language that connects people across the world. Let’s explore four famous examples of different music styles.
Classical Music:
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony
Classical music is known for its beauty and music groups. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, written in 1824, is one of the greatest classical works. Even though Beethoven was completely deaf in his old, he created this masterpiece with a choir singing “Ode to Joy” in the final movement (乐章), which is the only choral symphony in his all works.
Musical in Theater:
Cats
Cats is a popular musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on poems by T.S. Eliot. It tells the story of a group of cats gathering for a special night. The musical links beautiful songs like Memory to creative costumes and dance, making it a global hit since its first performance.
Chinese National Song:
March of the Volunteers
March of the Volunteers was composed in 1935 by Tian Han and Nie Er as the theme song of the movie Children of Trouble Time (风云儿女). It inspired people during difficult times with its strong rhythm and encouraging lyrics. It was taken as the national song in 1949. Today, it is often played at important national events and sung at every flag-raising ceremony.
Pop Music:
My Heart Will Go On
This song by Celine Dion is a classic pop from the movie Titanic (泰坦尼克号). Its emotional melody and lyrics about love and loss made it a worldwide favorite. Pop music like this is easy to sing and often tells us stories.
From Beethoven’s symphony to modern pop hits, music brings joy and meanings to our lives.

A. It was written when Beethoven was young. B. It includes his only choir singing “Ode to Joy.”

C. Cats. D. Beethoven’s ninth symphony.
32. What kind of song often tells us stories?
A Classic music. B. Pop music. C. Musical. D. Nation songs.
33. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Classical music is the only type of music that can express deep emotions.
B. Musicals rely on costumes and dance to tell stories.
C. Listening to pop music helps people stay healthy.
D. Music connects people across world by bringing joys and meanings.
C. Fill in the blanks with proper words.(在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺,每空格限填一词,首字母已给。)(12分)

D. Read the passage and complete the tasks(根据短文内容完成任务)(Task 1中66-68题每题1分,69-71题每题2分,Task 2共3分)
Standing Up to Cyberbullying
Peter Lantos started seeing the ugly messages someone posted about him when he was only fourteen. He didn’t know who they were from, only that the posts came from someone called Guess9. The posts continued into high school, and the message got uglier. Whenever Peter went online, he would always find more terrible posts. He felt like it was his problem, so he didn’t say anything to his parents at first. Sometimes the bullying (霸凌) made him feel so bad that he didn’t want to go to school. Peter was the victim of cyberbullying (网络霸凌).
In several ways, cyberbullying is even worse than face-to-face bullying. A cyberbully can post without real names, using an online name, like Guess9. A cyberbully can post someone’s personal information or post photos or videos that might be embarrassing to the victim. Hundreds, thousands or even millions of people might see these messages on their notebooks, tablets or smartphones.
What should you do if you are a victim? The most important thing anyone can do is to tell someone. Talk to an adult about it. Don’t deal with cyberbullying alone! There are ways to block a cyberbully’s posts and someone can help you do that. And one of the most effective things you can do might be to do nothing. Ignoring the bully, rather than replying to his or her posts, puts you in control. Instead of responding, take a break or go for a walk. Remember that the cyberbully has done something wrong. You haven’t. And what if you have a friend who is bullying someone online?
. You might make a difference.
Task 1: Answer the questions
