B When industrial engineer Abel Cruz was a boy, his weekly work was to struggle through a rocky valley in the foothills of the Peruvian Andes to fetch the family’s water from a spring. “It was downhill from the house, far away and rough,” he recalls. This challenging task left a lasting impression on Cruz, who began dreaming up innovative ways to collect water more efficiently. He observed that the special plants have evolved to capture rain and must with their broad and wide leaves. This observation sparked the inspiration for a revolutionary idea: a fog net. Over the years, Cruz has improved this concept and eventually shared it with communities around the world. The fog net consists of vertical sections, each covering an area of about 215 square feet. As fog comes from the Pacific Ocean, micro drops of water concentrate on the net and then drip down into collection tanks below. Remarkably, a single net can gather between 50 and 100 gallons of water per day! In joint efforts with the Creating Water Foundation, Cruz has fixed over 3,600 of these nets on the bare hillsides surrounding Lima, Peru. This initiative has been crucial in providing a sustainable water source for the city, which is home to more than 9 million residents. Lima experiences minimal rainfall and struggles with frequent water shortages, making Cruz’s work more critical. “The planet has less and less fresh water,” Cruz emphasizes, highlighting the importance of his work. “Glaciers, which act as natural resources, are disappearing, so we must find innovative ways to accumulate and save water for periods of drought.” His efforts not only change lives but also emphasize the urgent need for sustainable solutions in a world facing increasing water shortage. 4. Why is Cruz’s childhood experience of fetching water mentioned? A. To show what a tough boy Cruz was. B. To explain his motivation for innovation. C. To recall his terrible sufferings in the past. D. To prove how short water was in his hometown. 5. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The wide spread of Cruz’s concept. B. The significance of observing nature. C. The working principle of Cruz’s innovation. D. The source of the water collected in the net. 6. What function does Cruz’s innovation serve? A. To capture rain and mist. B. To draw fog from the Pacific. C. To collect tiny drops of water. D. To occupy the bare hillsides. 7. What can we infer about Cruz from the last paragraph? A. He overlooks the need to immediately conserve water. B. He believes technology can solve all water-related issues. C. He thinks that water shortage is just a temporary problem. D. He is firmly determined to find ways against water shortage. C Does an apple a day keep diseases away? There has never been a clear answer agreeable to the whole medical profession. However, recent research may finally provide some insights. A team of nine researchers based at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China gathered more than 200 apple-related medical studies from the past decades. They painstakingly dug into these studies and ultimately published their reviews in Food Science and Nutrition. This comprehensive study shows the width of medical reports addressing a wide range of health questions, winding up with a thought-provoking statement: “In conclusion, the effects of apples and apple derivatives (衍生物), like apple juice, on disease risk reduction are both challenging and encouraging.” Apples appeal to diverse audiences, ranging from scientists to anyone with a genuine taste for apples. They offer both tantalization and mystery, even — perhaps especially — to scientists studying the complexities of the human brain. A research team in Belgium makes a connection to apples while discussing how “activities of daily living are difficult to perform in a lab or clinic”. This idea briefs the challenge of translating everyday experiences into scientific inquiry. Moreover, a specific Japanese study explains the complexities involved in apple centric research. The study presents a photograph with the words, “A subject, lying in an fMRI (功能性磁共振成像) environment, performs a mock-peeling task while observing his hands, an apple, and a plastic knife model through a mirror.” Though these studies reveal significant difficulties, they do not stop progress. “Chewing yellow apples,” an Iranian study published in 2021 suggests, “was discovered to be a more effective method in reducing dental diseases than chewing red apples or using toothbrushes.” This finding not only underlines the potential health benefits of apples but also invites further exploration into how various types of apples might contribute to overall well-being. The quest to answer whether an apple a day keeps diseases away continues, with each study adding another layer to our understanding of this beloved fruit. 8. How did the researchers at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine conduct their study? A. By gathering a wide variety of apples. B. By carrying out apple-related experiments. C. By addressing health problems with apples. D. By analyzing previous apple-centric studies. 9. What does the underlined word “tantalization” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Attraction. B. Confusion. C. Nutrition. D. Amazement. 10. What does paragraph 3 focus on? A. The medical function of apples. B. The complexities of the human brain. C. The challenge in apple-related research. D. The connection between apples and the human brain. 11. What does the writer think of the apple-related studies? A. They are difficult but promising. B. They are creative and helpful. C. They are low-efficient but engaging. D. They are significant and comprehensive. D As DeepSeek, the latest AI phenomenon, thunders into public awareness, social media platforms are being transformed into creative classrooms where just about everything imaginable is taught by using the software — from designing wedding invitations to using Photoshop, teaching math and telling fortunes. One is on social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote. Titled Learning to Use DeepSeek in One Minute, it received more than 11,000 likes in just 10 days. Among the tutorials (教程), one released by Tsinghua University’s Metaverse (元宇宙) Culture Laboratory team — DeepSeek from Beginner to Mastery 2025 — stands out. The 104-page document, which covers theory and practical skills, is a detailed instruction for mastering DeepSeek and applying its full potential. It’s designed both for beginners and advanced users. The guide provides strategies for creating requirements that enhance AI performance. It also includes case studies illustrating how to apply DeepSeek to meet various needs. Team leader Shen Yang, a professor at Tsinghua University’s School of Journalism and Communication and its College of AI, said human-computer dialogue is essential for progress. “Even though AI’s capacity to understand human intentions has improved significantly, humans still need to clearly express their needs,” he said. “The combination of open-source software and inclusive applications is meaningful.” By providing free tutorials, for example, the team can deliver the power of AI to everyone, allowing each person to use and master it, rather than being dominated by it. A social media influencer using the name Zhinan Shanhe posted a four-episode video tutorial of DeepSeek on Douyin and Xiaohongshu. The videos have been popular gaining hundreds of thousands of likes. The 30-year-old man from Shanghai works in the AI industry and he has mastered many AI tools. “Before DeepSeek, I mostly used foreign AI models, which are not so user-friendly for Chinese people,” he said. “But the capabilities of DeepSeek are charming. It is powerful and also completely free, which is a blessing for its users.” 12. What can be inferred in paragraph 1 about DeepSeek? A. It serves as creative classrooms. B. It can predict the future precisely. C. It is well employed in many aspects. D. It can handle everything imaginable. 13. What can we learn from Shen Yang’s statements when using AI? A. Users are blessed with the free software. B. AI does better in reasoning than humans. C. AI can successfully read a figure’s mind. D. Clear instructions from human are necessary. 14. What is the target of the free tutorials provided by Tsinghua University’s team? A. To increase the popularity of DeepSeek. B. To enable everyone to use and master AI. C. To help people better understand AI theory. D. To make quick progress in AI performance. 15. What is the best title for the passage? A. Many offer cash prizes and fame that enhance your writing CV, potentially opening doors to new opportunities. Winning entries are often published. ____16____ Here is an insight into what’s required to advance an entry onto the shortlist and beyond. To make your entry stand on, think outside the box. As Mark Twain said, “There is no such thing as a new idea,” but competition judges seek originality. ____17____ For instance, transform “Little Red Riding Hood” by changing character roles — what if Red Riding Hood is a courageous young man? Innovating familiar tales can draw judges seeking something fresh and original. ____18____ While most stories are told in the first or third person, the second-person viewpoint can engage readers in an entirely unique way. Alternatively, describe from the perspective of a child facing a family crisis or even a bad guy with a convincing backstory. Such narrators not only excite interest but also arouse empathy, enriching the reader’s experience. Bringing humor into your story can lighten the mood, making your entry impressive. In a sea of heavy narratives, a laugh can make your story unforgettable. ____19____ Otherwise, the judge might feel you have gone too far. Reading previous winning stories helps you get a feeling for what makes a prize-winning tale. ____20____ By analyzing them, you’ll refine your own style and grasp what makes a story shine. Winning your first competition can be a life-changing experience. With these strategies in your toolkit, you’re well on your way to creating stories that appeal. Embrace the challenge, and let your creativity shine! A. Humor brings out that laugh and helps you win favor from the judge. B. Even familiar themes, like romance or ghost stories, can be re-imagined. C. The joy of seeing your name published alongside your story is amazing. D. However, ensure your humor feels natural and relevant rather than forced. E. Embracing unusual viewpoints can also attract judges’ attention. F. Successful entries offer insights into successful styles, themes, and language. G. Chances are, whatever theme yours is, the judge will have seen it all before. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 Michael Surrell didn’t see black smoke shooting from his neighbors’ home in Allentown, Pennsylvania, until his daughter called. However, one extraordinary stranger in Argentina proved that this view isn’t always accurate, and now his inspiring story is touching hearts around the globe and significantly changing the life of a family. A couple of years ago, Alvaro Romero, a compassionate observer, noticed a young man cleaning windshields (挡风玻璃) at a busy street corner while his six-year-old daughter sat beside him, deeply absorbed in her homework. The scene of the father’s labor and the child’s innocent concentration struck Romero deeply. Unable to shake off the feeling lit by their situation, he approached them and started a heartfelt conversation. As they chatted, Romero learned that the 26-year-old dad, named Mauro, also had a two-year-old son. This little boy was at home with his mother during the day, while Mauro took on the burdens of the world outside. However, because of family instability — particularly issues with Mauro’s father-in-law, who struggled with alcohol addiction—Mauro’s daughter accompanied him every afternoon after school. Her laughter surrounds him. Mauro had been tirelessly working at that corner for the past four years, struggling with feelings of despair as he fought to provide for his wife and their two beloved children. Despite the exhaustion weighing on him, he pushed through each dull day, feeling trapped in a cycle of endless labor and unfulfilled dreams. Deep down, he feared that he would die in doing the same routine and soul-sucking job every day, yet he stuck to the hope that his sacrifices would eventually bear fruit for his family. So he did, never expecting that one day his life would change for the better. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Though uncertain how to help, Romero knew he needed to try. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The post went far and wide. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 机密★启用前 华大新高考联盟2025届高三4月教学质量测评 英语 命题:华中师范大学考试研究院 本试卷共四部分,共12页。 How much is the shirt? After careful consideration, he decided to take a photograph of the father and his daughter, capturing the essence of their bond and the struggles they faced. With a heartfelt message about their situation, he shared the story on his social media platform in the hope of raising awareness and generating support for the family. As he posted it online, he felt a mix of anxiety and hope, wondering how people would respond to this intimate glimpse into their lives and whether it might inspire others to lend a helping hand. The post went far and wide. Countless individuals were moved by Mauro’s story. Within days, an outpouring of support flooded in from across the community and beyond. Donations streamed in, including not only financial aid but also job offers, clothing, and school supplies for his children. Local businesses stepped in to provide Mauro with stable employment, while teachers offered assistance with his daughter’s studies. This once-struggling family found themselves embraced by the compassionate spirit of many, transforming their lives through community support. And it’s all thanks to the kindness of one stranger, who cared and acted to make a difference. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
