In our writing club, we often shared our stories with a critique partner to give helpful feedback (反馈) so we could tell the best story.
Today my critique partner was Penny. As I handed my story to her, I was nervous. I had no problem coming up with great story ideas. I did have problems with spelling and grammar. Penny didn’t look at me or smile as she pushed her story across the table toward me. Why was she worried? She always got perfect scores on her spelling and grammar tests.
I read her story without stopping. It was perfect! I loved it. “Wow, great story,” I told her. “I don’t have any suggestions.”
“Yours too,” she mumbled (嘟哝). She didn’t even look at me as she passed mine back.
After class, Penny hurried out of the library. I noticed a book under her table. It must have fallen out of Penny’s bag. I read the description on the back and found it was just like Penny’s story! I couldn’t believe Penny had copied this idea! It wasn’t fair!
Outside of the school I spotted (发现) Penny sitting on a bench. I walked over and handed the book to her. She hung her head, almost crying! All of a sudden, I wasn’t angry anymore. I remembered that my job as her critique partner was to give helpful feedback, not to make her feel bad. But what should I say?
I kept thinking about Penny as I walked home. I decided to ask Mom for help. When I found her in the kitchen making dinner with Dad, I realized that Mom and Dad had different skills, making them a great creative team. That gave me an idea to suggest to Penny.
At school the next morning, I found Penny at her locker.
“I thought I would love writing club, but I never have a single idea for a story,” she said.
“Well, I have ideas, but I wish I could write perfectly like you do,” I said.
“What if we worked on a story together? I bet we could come up with something great.”
A big smile was on Penny’s face.
24. How did Penny feel when she pushed her story to the writer?
A. Bored. B. Disappointed. C. Confused. D. Worried.
25. What did the writer find about Penny’s story after class?
A. It was a perfect story. B. Its idea was copied from a book.
C. It was full of spelling mistakes. D. Its idea was about a creative team.
26. What might the writer learn from the experience?
A. Offering helpful feedback really matters. B. Perfect grammar is important to a good story.
C. Working alone is better than working with others. D. Being honest is the easiest way to succeed.

In recent years, there has been a cultural change in the way we talk about mental health. We began to understand how important our emotional needs were. Since we’re paying more attention to our inner lives, it’s also necessary that we take action. Fortunately, there are a number of things that we can do to nourish (滋养) our mental health and find moments of joy.
1
The fastest, easiest ways you can calm your mind and body is by taking slow, deep breaths. Doing so helps to lower your blood pressure and make your heart beat regularly. One breathing exercise that can be particularly helpful is 4-4-8 breathing, where you breathe in for four counts, hold your breath for four counts and breathe out for eight counts.
Take part in the arts
The idea that art can improve mental well-being is something many people understand but don’t necessarily put into practice. You don’t need talent to give it a try, experts say. Writing a poem, singing or drawing are all good choices. One of the easiest ways to get started is to spend 20 minutes coloring a complex (复杂的) design.
Enter the walk
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to connect with the nature around us. Pick a walking place (either new or familiar) and imagine that you’re seeing it for the first time. Then pay attention to your senses. Feel the wind on your face, touch a flower, and simply notice the sky. It can make you stronger and healthier than you might expect.
Take a tech break
If you’re having trouble focusing, it’s not just you. Research has found that over the past twenty years, the amount of time we spend on a given task has reduced to an average of just 47 seconds, down from two and a half minutes. Technology is often to blame (责备). A method called “tech breaks” may help you regain control of your attention. Set a timer for 15 minutes, then silence and set aside your phone. When time is up, take one or two minutes to check your favorite apps-that’s your tech break and get back to work for another 15-minute cycle. The goal is to gradually increase the time between your tech breaks building up to 45 minutes (or more) away from your phone.
27. What might be the heading of Paragraph 2?
A. Count numbers. B. Do exercise regularly. C. Take a deep breath. D. Understand your mind.
28. According to the passage, which is the right way to improve mental health?
A. Starting from developing talent. B. Getting away from our phones.
C. Checking your favorite apps. D. Taking a walk in the nature.
29. What can we learn from the passage?
A. People change their attitude towards their lives in recent years.
B. People began to realize the importance of mental well-being.
C. The longer “tech break” lasts, the better it is for our mental health
D. Mental health can’t be improved by art because we don’t have talent.
D
Human augmentation technologies are all around you. They are wearable and portable (便携的). And they are so much a part of your daily life that you may not even notice them.
Do you or any of your family and friends, wear eyeglasses? Glasses allow us to see further, in finer detail. Next, think about the phone in your pocket. Phones enable us to quickly connect with people far away and to get a large amount of information on the internet. They each strengthen our human abilities to a surprising degree. And yet, they are completely ordinary nowadays.
But, what about physical augmentation? Imagine something you could wear to make lifting easier or allow you to hold heavy tools without getting tired. What you are imagining is called an exoskeleton, or exo for short. Exos are wearable devices (装置) that support or augment movement or performance through physical work.
Work exos make physical jobs easier, or help improve a worker’s physical performance or safety. Workers who do overhead tasks, like painting ceilings (天花板) can use arm exos to make these jobs less tiring and reduce their risk of shoulder injuries. This means workers can do their jobs without getting as tired or sore, which can improve work quality and well-being both at work and after work.
There are also exos to support many other tasks and body parts. There are exos for the back, hands, and legs. For example, delivery workers who load (装载) and unload boxes can use back exos to make lifting easier and less tiring. Doctors and nurses who need to stand for long periods of time can use leg exos to help support their body weight. Leg exos are also being developed for soldiers, firefighters, and mountaineers who may have to carry heavy equipment (设备) over long distances.
Exos are such a new technology that they are not yet widely used at work. But many experts expect that exos will become widely used in certain industries in the future. There is still more to learn scientifically about the longer-term effects of exos, but over the next ten years, the popularity of these wearable technologies is expected to grow rapidly. Exos might even become standard tools or safety equipment in certain jobs in the near future.
30. Why does the writer use the example of glasses and phones in Paragraph 2?
A. To show human augmentation are a part of our daily life. B. To stress human augmentation can be carried easily.
C. To explain human abilities are weak in some fields. D. To prove glasses and phones are very useful in our life.
31. What does the underlined word “augment” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. Stop. B. Change. C. Reduce. D. Improve.
32. Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with?
A. Work exos can help workers earn more money.
B. Work exos can help workers do the jobs more safely.
C. Work exos can carry heavy equipment for firefighters.
D. Work exos can take the place of workers in the near future.
33. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To explain the importance of long-term effects of exos.
B. To remind people to be careful about their body parts.
C. To introduce a new technology named exoskeleton.
D To express his/her worries about the widely-used exos.

Farms for City Children
Who are Farms for City Children?
Farms for City Children is a charity (慈善机构) set up in 1976 by children’s writer Sir Michael Morpurgo and his wife. More than 100,000 children have been to their farm to have one of the most memorable and empowering (增强信心的) weeks of their childhood. It’s a visit that builds children’s self-confidence and self-worth as they work as a team on the farm.
What does Farms for City Children offer?
Farms for City Children offers children the chances to have meaningful connections to the natural world. They try to empower children to experience the physical and mental health benefits of being in the countryside, and to see themselves as the caretakers of our land.
What is the influence on children who visit?
The influence of a week on the farm is profound (深远的). Benefits of the week on the farm include great changes to behavior, levels of confidence and character developments of children. Additionally, children experience a deep connection to nature and a sense of their own social responsibility to be masters of our planet.
What do children learn?
Days start early and each day is different because of the cycle of the seasons and different weather. There is also a routine and structure to life on the farm. The animals must be looked after before breakfast; goats milked, eggs collected, and seeds sown.
On the farm children learn where their food comes from on a farm to fork journey. They grow, harvest (收获), prepare and cook their own food, which improves children’s food choices. Locally produced meat, fruit and vegetables can help them develop a habit of leading a healthier life. Children also learn to take responsibility for themselves, each other and their animals and land.
With reduced stress levels, increased freedom and more meaningful connections, children return home with a great sense of pride as a result of being a “Farmer for a Week”.

A. Offering helpful feedback really matters. B. Perfect grammar is important to a good story.

Human augmentation technologies are all around you. They are wearable and portable (便携的). And they are so much a part of your daily life that you may not even notice them.
Do you, or any of your family and friends, wear eyeglasses?
D. To express his/her worries about the widely-used exos.

On the farm, children learn where their food comes from on a farm to fork journey.
