Plastic pollution has become one of the most serious environmental problems in the world. Each year, more than 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in the oceans. This plastic breaks down into tiny pieces, called microplastics, which can be eaten by fish and other sea creatures. Scientists have even found microplastics in the food we eat and the water we drink.
To solve this problem, many countries have taken actions. For example, China has banned single-use plastic bags in large cities, and the European Union has stopped the use of plastic straws and cups. Many people are also trying to reduce their use of plastic by carrying reusable bags, bottles, and containers.
However, the fight against plastic pollution is not easy. Plastic is cheap and convenient, so many businesses and individuals still use it. Scientists are working on developing new materials that can replace plastic. These materials are designed to break down naturally without harming the environment.
Reducing plastic pollution requires everyone’s effort. If we all do our part, we can create a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations.
1.How many tons of plastic waste end up in the oceans each year?
2.Why is plastic pollution harmful to sea creatures?
3.What actions have some countries taken to reduce plastic pollution?
4.How are scientists helping to solve the problem of plastic pollution?
5.What do you think individuals can do to reduce plastic waste? Why is this important?

An earthquake may happen at any time. Although we can’t prevent an earthquake from happening, schools should hold earthquake drills often to teach students the ways to protect themselves. On January 28, 2025, a special show named YangBOT surprised people on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China’s most popular TV program. Directed by the famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese Yangko dance with modern robot technology. In the performance, humanoid robots (robots like humans) dressed in colorful clothes danced Yangko. Yangko is a happy folk dance from northern China and we often see it during festivals. These robots turn handkerchiefs (手帕) around quickly and made creative group patterns. They were made by a Chinese robotics company named Unitree.
This wasn’t Unitree’s first success. In 2021, their robot cows called “Ben Ben” danced for singer Andy Lou. The robots learned dance moves with the help of AI. They used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on the stage. Their strong joints (关节), just like knees with 360N·m power, helped them keep balance during fast steps.
The robots were loved by millions of people. On social media, topics like “Robots Yangko” became popular quickly. Young people thought it was “cool”. Older audiences liked its humor and the happy festival feeling. The YangBOT program shows both China’s technology progress and cultural pride well.
Just like a fan said, “It’s like watching the future and the past dance together!”

2.What is Yangko?
3.Who made the humanoid robots?

The government in China has introduced a three-year action plan called “Weight Management (管理) Year”. This plan aims to help people understand the importance of controlling a healthy weight.
A recent study shows that about 15% of teenagers in China now have weight problems. Why are so many teens getting fat? Doctors say there are mainly two reasons. One big reason is their eating habits. Many teens love junk food. They often eat hamburgers, French fries and ice cream. These foods have lots of fat and sugar. Another reason is that they don’t exercise enough. Most teens spend a lot of time sitting in front of computers or mobile phones.
Being overweight causes serious health problems. Some teens often feel tired quickly and have trouble running. Some of them may develop heart disease later in life. It also affects mental (精神的) health. Overweight teens sometimes feel shy about their bodies. Some of their classmates may make fun of them because of their weight. That makes them feel bad about themselves.
The national plan includes activities, such as sports events, healthy eating plans, and fun challenges (挑战). To help students, schools are making changes. Many schools now serve healthy lunches with vegetables, egg and fish instead of fried food. Some schools add fun activities like dancing or basketball during class break to help students move more. Doctors also remind teens to sleep 8 or 9 hours every night. Parents and teachers hope these steps will help students stay healthy and happy.
1.What is the aim of the national plan?
2.Why shouldn’t teens eat junk food?
3.How do the teens often feel when they are overweight?
4.Who are making changes to help students according to the text?
5.How long do doctors remind teens to sleep every night?

The robots were loved by millions of people. On social media, topics like “Robots Yangko” became popular quickly. Young people thought it was “cool”. Older audiences liked its humor and the happy festival feeling. The YangBOT program shows both China’s technology progress and cultural pride well.
