Getting a drone to deliver your coffee at the Great Wall!
In August Badaling Great Wall launched the first drone dolivery route in Beijing.as the scenic spot
aims to enhance tourist experience.strengthen emergency support capabilities and improve the digital
capabilities of its daily operations and 46
The application scenarios of instant delivery services by drones are constantly expanding.
Earlier this month.Meituan launched a drone delivery route at Fudan University in Shanghai, making
it the first such offering at a university in the city. This route connects a business 47 in the
Wujiaochang area of Shanghai with the student apartments in the east district of Fudan Universiy
Drones complete a48-trip flight every 15 minutes on average, and students can49
their orders at a cabinet set up near their dormitories. When the dione0at a distance of 50 meters,
its noise level is only about 51 decibels(),which is lower than the51 of a regular conversation,
Meituan said.
South China's Guangdong has been a52for drone devolopment. The consumer drones sector
in the province 53 for over 70 percent of the global market share, while the industrial drones sector
holds 50 percent of the intemational market, according to the local goverment.
In various application scenarios of the low-altitude economy, instant delivery services by drones in
cities have been more complex, and they are currently being in some particular areas.
The service is expected to gradually gain traction across the nation with55policy support,
address the issue of urban traffic congestion and improve delivery efficiency.

No lying flat on personal data protection
The Ministry of Public Security recently announced 10 typical cases of crimes that infringc()on
citizens'personal information, including the stealing of personal information related to 56
deliveries, false recruitment, invading shopping application, and criminals pretending to be medical
insurance department staff to collect people's personal information.
The public security57 cracked more than 7,000 criminal cases that infringed on citizens'
personal information last year. That reflects the 58 of the problem.
In the digital age, personal information has become a"digital mineral"for some people.Criminal
gangs can sell the personal information they illegally for huge profits, and the amount involved
in a single case can reach millions of yuan.
Some new trends in crimes that infringe on citizens'personal information are also due to 60
loopholes. For example, the means of committing such crimes are becoming more and more technical.
Criminal gangs can produce and release Trojan programs to control computers of the victims. The
61 involved are also harder to trace,as the criminal gangs collude with express industry staff to
steal the personal information provided with an order. These gray industry chains have become more
developed with increasingly clear labor 62 within the criminal gangs in the upstream and
downstream undertakings.

IV.Reading Comprehension(15'+30')
Section A
Directions:For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A,B,C and
D.Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
Unwrapping your shopping to find you have bought moldy bread, rotten fruit and sour milk could
soon become a thing of the past, thanks to the range of emerging active packaging'technologies. While
traditional packaging simply66barrier that protects food, active packaging can do a lot more. Some
materials interact with the product too7 it in some way.or provide better information on the state
it is in.68,they may absorb oxygen inside a wrapper to help prevent food spoilage or show whether
potentially dangerous foods like red meat and chicken have been stored at unsafe temperatures.
One of the new breeds of packaging technologies that has just gone on the market in France is a"time
temperature indicator".Stores where the product has already been introduced report that far fewer
consumers are returning o9 food. The indicator is basically a label that 70 the temperature
a package has been kept at and for how long. The label has a dark ring around a lighter circle. The central
ring contains a chemical which polymerizes ()changing color as it does so from clear to71.
If the package stays cool, the reaction is slow, but increasing the temperature speeds up the polymerization.
When the inner circle darkens,it means the product is no longer72 fresh.
Smart packaging can also control the 73 inside a container. For instance, the make-up of
axygen and carbon dioxide within packaged vegetables will influence their freshness. This can be
/4to control in a sealed package, since vegetables consume more oxygen and give off more carbon
dioxide as the package gets warmer.A firm in California is trying to solve the problem with a wrapper it
calls“Intelimer'”,which changes its permeabilir(渗透性)as the temperature changes in a way that keeps
different products at their best O2/CO2 75
Docay can also be76by controlling the environment inside a package with an"oxygen
scavenger ()".this is achieved by placing a small bag filled with iron powder in the
package-any oxygen in the package is consumed by the iron as it oxidizes. However, consumers don't
78 finding small bags marked"Don't eat"in their food,so a company in New Jersey is making a
wrap that itself consumes oxygen. The material includes an inner layer of an oxidizable polymer that
oxygen in the same way as iron.
It is predicted that between 20 and 40 percent of all food packaging will soon be 80.

Directions:Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished
statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B.C and D.Choose the one that fits best
according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
(A)
It was a cold night in Washington,D.C.,and I was heading back to the hotel when a man approached
me.He asked if I would give him some money so he could get something to eat.I'd read the signs:"Don't
give money to beggars as most of them are swindlers."So I shook my head and kept walking.
I wasn't prepared for a reply, but with no hesitation,he followed me and said,"I really am homeless
and I really am hungry! You can come with me and watch me eat!"But I kept on walking.
The incident kept bothering me for the rest of the week,I had money in my pocket and it wouldn't
have killed me to hand over a dollar or two even if he hadn't been a real beggar. On a freezing cold night,
no less,I assumed the worst of a fellow human being
Flying back to Anchorage,I couldn't help thinking of him.I tried to reason my failure to help by
supposing government agencies, churches and charities were there to feed him.Besides, you're not
supposed to give money to beggars.
Somewhere over Seattle,I started to write my weekly garden column for The Anchorage Daily News.
Out of the blue,I came up with an idea.Bean's Cafe,a local-charity service kitchen, feeds hundreds of
hungry local people everyday. Why not try to get all my readers to plant one row of vegetables or flowers
in their gardens for Bean's?Plant a row for Bean's.It's clean and simple.
We didn't keep records back then, but the idea began to take off.Folks would fax me or call when
they took something in.It's food for the spirit and comfort for my conscience. In April 1995,the Garden
Writers Association of America(GWAA)held their annual meeting in Anchorage and after learning our
program,Plant a Row for Bean's became Plant a Row For The Hungry. The idea then was to have every
member write or talk about planting a row for the hungry, which brought the program to national attention.
As more and more people participated, new variations cropped up.Many companies gave free seeds to
customers and displayed the logo for the program.Donations poured in.It was then that I could really stop
feeling guilty.

Is this the most powerful word in the English language?
"The."It's present everywhere;we can't imagine English without it.But it's not much to look at.
Technically,it's meaningless. And yet this word could be one of the most powerful in the English language.
"The"tops the league tables of most frequently used words in English, accounting for 5%of every
100 words used."The'really is miles above everything else,"says Jonathan Culpeper, professor of
linguistics at Lancaster University. But why is this?
The answer is two-fold,according to the BBC Radio 4 programme Word of Mouth.George Zipf,a
20h-century U.S.linguist,gave a detailed explanation of the principle of least effort. He predicted that
short and simple words would be the most frequent-and he was right.
The second reason is that"the"lies at the heart of English grammar. It has a function rather than a
meaning.Words are split into two categories:expressions with a semantic (meaning and
functional words like“"the,”"to”and“for"that have a job to do.“The”can function in multiple ways..This
is typical, explains Gary Thoms, assistant professor of linguistics at New York University."A super high-
usage word will often develop a real flexibility,"says Thoms.Helping us understand what is being referred
to,"the"makes sense of nouns as a subject or an object. So even someone with a basic understanding of
English can tell the difference between"I ate an apple"and"I ate the apple."
But although"the"has no meaning in itself,"it seems to be able to do things in miraculous ways,"
says Michael Rosen,a poet and author.Consider the difference between"he scored a goal"and"he scored

the goal."The inclusion of"the"immediately signals something important about that goal.Perhaps it was
the only one of the match?Or maybe it was the clincher that won the league?Context very often
determines sense.
There are many exceptions regarding the use of the definite article, for example in relation to proper
nouns. We wouldn't expect someone to say "the Jonathan"but it's not incorrect to say "you're not the
Jonathan I thought you were."And a football commentator might deliberately say "you've got the
Lampards in midfield"to mean players like Lampard.
This could lead to the belief that"the"is nothing more than a workhorse of the English language-
functional but boring.Yet Rosen rejects that view. While primary school children are taught to use"wow"
words, choosing"exclaimed"rather than"said,"he doesn't think any word has more or less"wow"factor
than any other. It all depends on how it's used."Power in language comes from context..."the"can be a
wow word,"he says.
88.Which one of the following reasons is NOT the reason why "the"is the most frequently used word
in English?
A."The"is a short word and therefore will appear more frequent.
B."The"serves a grammatical function rather than provides semantic meaning.
C."The"contains only one syllable and is easy to pronounce.
D."The"is highly flexible and help us make sense of nouns.
89.What does"the clincher"mean in paragraph 5?
A.The player who scored the goal.
B.The decisive goal that helped the team win the game.
C.The player who looks like Lampard.
D.The important game that helped the team get into the next round.
90.According to the passage, which of the following word contains more"wow factor"than the other
three?
A.happy
B.pleased
C.glad
D.exhilarated
91.Which one of the following statements is the writer most likely to agree with?
A.Although"the"is functional,it is a boring word.
B.Under no circumstances can "the"be used with proper nouns.
C."The"contains the least"wow factor"among all English words.
D."The”can be a“wow word'"in certain context.

The Unselfish Gene
There has long been a general assumption that human beings are essentially selfish. We're apparently
ruthless, with strong impulses to compete against each other for resources and to accumulate power and
possessions. If we are kind to one another,it's usually because we have secret motives. If we are good,it's
only because we have managed to control and transcend our innate selfishness and brutality.
This bleak view of human nature is closely associated with the science writer Richard Dawkins, whose
1976 book The Selfish Gene became popular because it fitted so well with-and helped to justify-the
