Good evening. Thanks for joining me in this week’s The Natural World. I’m Rebecca. For the next four weeks, we’ll talk about trees around us. And today’s topic is about how trees help each other...
That’s all for today. Next week I’ll talk about famous trees in China. What are they? Think of your favourite and join me next Tuesday to find out more. See you then.
To introduce some amazing facts about trees.
The most amazing part is how trees “talk” through their roots. I did not think they could “talk” with each other before, but now I know that they can communicate with each other and send a message through their roots to help other trees.

The roots of trees are very sensitive. Trees can distinguish (区分)whether their neighbors are of the same kind as themselves.
They can also sense cold and heat, and judge when to sprout (发芽) and grow based on changes in temperature.
The roots of trees can hear the sound of flowing water and grow in the direction of the water.

Hello, I’m... Today, I would like to introduce the most amazing tree in my mind to you. I think the most amazing tree is the banyan tree (榕树).
It looks like a giant green umbrella with thick leaves and lots of hanging roots. These roots grow down from its branches and become new trunks, making the tree bigger and stronger. I once saw a very old banyan tree in a park—it was so huge that ten people could stand around it! It gives a lot of shade to people and homes to birds. It reminds me that even a single tree can protect life and bring peace.
Second, share your idea with the class.
