I’m a plastic bottle. A week ago, I was on a supermarket shelf. I had a normal life and felt really happy. Then a tall woman picked me up and drank the water inside me. She threw me into a bin. I have never felt so empty in my life.
Early the next morning, a man took me out of the bin. He threw me and the other rubbish into the back of a truck. Then I was pushed together with the rest of the rubbish. Soon I became much thinner.
I slept for a while. When I woke up, I found myself in a terrible place. Everything around me was ugly and had terrible smells. I felt afraid. I kept hoping that I would be moved somewhere else. Then huge trucks came and covered us with earth.
I asked another bottle what would happen to us. He said that we would never leave this terrible crowded place, but would have to stay here for thousands of years.
“Why can’t they reuse or recycle us?" I cried.

第二节 书面表达(共1小题,满分20分)
One possible version:
I've done a survey about whether it is necessary to have Homework-free Day. Here are the results. Most students think it necessary to have Homework-free Day so that they will have more free time to do what they like, such as reading their favorite books, going swimming and so on. They will also feel relaxed and join their friends in playing different games.
Some students, however, don't like it. They're afraid that they may waste time or even get bad grades. They prefer to do homework as usual.
In my view, Homework-free Day will certainly help a lot. I can choose to watch some interesting English programs, which will help improve my listening and speaking skills.

10-year-old Mike is being interviewed on TV about his own cooking.
Mike, when did you start cooking?
When I was four, I became interested in cooking. I started helping my mum in the kitchen when I was
five. At the age of six, I could make vegetable salad. One year later, I could make a fruit pie all by myself.
What’s the best way to get good at cooking?
I don’t go to cooking classes. Sometimes I watch videos on the phone. I often read books about cooking
actually. I think the best way to improve my cooking is trying it again and again. If it is no good, I’ll do it
differently next time.
What do your parents think of your cooking?
They’re glad that they don’t have to make dinner every day, and they enjoy my cooking-usually! But, you
can’t make everyone happy all the time.
Finally, what’s it like being on TV?
It’s interesting. In fact, I really enjoy myself making the shows. They’re watched by millions, but I still
find it strange when people I don’t know say hello to me in the street.
16. When could Mike make a fruit pie all by himself?
3
A. At the age of four. B. At the age of five.
C. At the age of six. D. At the age of seven.
17. What does Mike think is the best way to improve his cooking?
A. To learn by practicing. B. To read books about cooking.
C. To go to cooking classes. D. To watch videos on the phone.
18. Why does Mike say “you can’t make everyone happy all the time”?
A. His parents don’t like him to make shows.
B. His parents don’t always like his cooking.
C. His parents make him cook meals for everyone.
D. His parents find it strange that he’s interviewed.
B
Johnny, a 15-year-old student, is checking his dad’s old jacket. He says, “You’re 45. Dad, you’re never
going to wear this again. Can I have it?”
Keith has had a bad day at work, and he is feeling old. And Johnny has hit his pain. Keith raises his voice
and says, “What? You mean I’m too old to wear the jacket again?”
Johnny feels like this has come out of nowhere, and now he feels hurt. But I only asked, “Why are you
shouting at me?”
“But I don’t like being treated as though I’m too old.” Both of them feel a bit upset.
Have you ever had a similar argument with the people around you? Here are some tips for you to
remember when you’re getting mad.
● Accept your feelings and consider the other person’s feelings. That means not always making yourself
“right” or “clever” and the other person “wrong” or “stupid”.
● Explain yourself and not the other person, so you can speak out your ideas by starting with “I” but not
“You”.
● Don’t always have to reflect before reacting(回应). If you feel angry, I think it’s a good idea to stop
for a moment and understand why.
●Don’t decide the purpose of the other person by your guessing. Try to work out what he or she is feeling,
and admit(承认)it if you were wrong.
Don’t forget that it’s never too late to start the ways of communicating.
19. Johnny felt hurt because his dad ________.
A. hit is pain B. had a busy day C. liked the jacket D. was angry with him
20. To avoid an argument, the writer gives us ________ suggestions.
A. 2 B. 3 C. 4 D. 5

A. You misunderstood me… B. I know how you feel, but…
C. They’re different from us… D. Things aren’t the same…
22. The best title for the passage can be ________.
A. Learn to Admit Your Mistakes Bravely
B. Be Patient with the People around You
C. An Argument between a Father and a Son
D. Good Ways of Communication Are Important

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always
took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the
hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because
it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we
faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village. “Who are they?” I asked. “They are
good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back
to my hometown was my grandmother.
One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The
canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now
so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and
apples. She told us that after the water conservation project (水利工程) was completed, a policy (政策) was
made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.
Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside.
Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city. However, we should not forget our hometowns where
we are from.
23. What troubled the villagers most was that ________.
A. they had too much work B. it was not convenient to go up the hill
C. they could only grow fruit trees D. there wasn’t enough water in the orchard
24. The good men came and offered help probably because of ________.
A. the villagers’ suggestions B. the government’s support
C. a school’s practical activity D. a company’s engineering plan
25. The underlined phrase devoted themselves to is closest in meaning to ________.
A. prepared much for B. donated money to
C. drawn public attention to D. put much effort into
26. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. How is a village improved? B. Who are the good men?
C. Why do people come back? D. What does a hometown mean?
D
A myth is something that is not correct, but many people believe. There are a lot of myths about the
human brain.
One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if
we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we'll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it's
absolutely not true! The truth is that although we don't know everything about the human brain, we know that
each part of it has an important function. Modern scientists think the "10 percent myth" ridiculous (荒谬的).
The other most popular myth is about being "right brained" or "left brained". According to this myth,
people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their
brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it's also wrong. In 2013, a
study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use
both sides of our brains equally (相等地).
It's true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language
5
more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no evidence (证据) that creative people
use the right side more, or that scientific people use the left side more.
We've talked about myths, so let's look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain
feels no pain. Second, about 75 percent of the brain is made of water. It's also the fattest organ in your body.
Here's another interesting fact about the brain. Around the time you turn 18 years old, it stops growing.
27. The underlined word "This" in Paragraph 3 refers to ▲ .
A. the left brain myth B. the right brain and left brain myth
C. the use of human brains D. the study of an American university
28. According to the facts mentioned in the passage, ________ may use the left brain more.
A. Robert, who is learning English B. Kate, who is drawing pictures
C. Jenny, who is designing clothes D. Jacob, who is doing research
29. Which of the following is TRUE about the human brain?
A. It is growing all life long. B. The right side is used more by artists.
C. Some parts of it are not used at all. D. Three quarters of it is made of water.
30. The passage mainly tells about ________.
A. the growing of the brain B. different functions of the brain
C. right brain and left brain D. myths and facts about the brain

10-year-old Mike is being interviewed on TV about his own cooking.
Mike, when did you start cooking?
When I was four, I became interested in cooking. I started helping my mum in the kitchen when I was five. At the age of six, I could make vegetable salad. One year later, I could make a fruit pie all by myself.
What’s the best way to get good at cooking?
I don’t go to cooking classes. Sometimes I watch videos on the phone. I often read books about cooking actually. I think the best way to improve my cooking is trying it again and again. If it is no good, I’ll do it differently next time.
What do your parents think of your cooking?
They’re glad that they don’t have to make dinner every day, and they enjoy my cooking-usually! But, you can’t make everyone happy all the time.
Finally, what’s it like being on TV?
It’s interesting. In fact, I really enjoy myself making the shows. They’re watched by millions, but I still find it strange when people I don’t know say hello to me in the street.
16. When could Mike make a fruit pie all by himself?
Dad, you’re never going to wear this again. Can I have it?”
Keith has had a bad day at work, and he is feeling old. And Johnny has hit his pain. Keith raises his voice and says, “What? You mean I’m too old to wear the jacket again?”
Johnny feels like this has come out of nowhere, and now he feels hurt. But I only asked, “Why are you shouting at me?”
“But I don’t like being treated as though I’m too old.” Both of them feel a bit upset.
Have you ever had a similar argument with the people around you? Here are some tips for you to remember when you’re getting mad.
● Accept your feelings and consider the other person’s feelings. That means not always making yourself “right” or “clever” and the other person “wrong” or “stupid”.
● Explain yourself and not the other person, so you can speak out your ideas by starting with “I” but not “You”.
● Don’t always have to reflect before reacting(回应). If you feel angry, I think it’s a good idea to stop for a moment and understand why.
●Don’t decide the purpose of the other person by your guessing. Try to work out what he or she is feeling, and admit(承认)it if you were wrong.
Don’t forget that it’s never too late to start the ways of communicating.
19. Johnny felt hurt because his dad ________.
A. hit is pain B. had a busy day C. liked the jacket D. was angry with him

A. Learn to Admit Your Mistakes Bravely

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village. “Who are they?” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.
One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project (水利工程) was completed, a policy (政策) was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.
Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside.
Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city. However, we should not forget our hometowns where we are from.
There are a lot of myths about the human brain.
One of the biggest myths is that we only use 10 percent of our brains. The next part of the myth is that if we can learn to use the rest of our brains, then we'll be much smarter. People say this all the time, but it's absolutely not true! The truth is that although we don't know everything about the human brain, we know that each part of it has an important function. Modern scientists think the "10 percent myth" ridiculous (荒谬的).
The other most popular myth is about being "right brained" or "left brained". According to this myth, people who use the right side of their brains are more artistic and creative. People who use the left side of their brains are better at math and science. This is as popular as the 10 percent myth, and it's also wrong. In 2013, a study at an American university examined the right brain and left brain myth. According to the study, we use both sides of our brains equally (相等地).
It's true that we use different parts of our brains for different things. We use our left side for language more, and our right side when we need to pay attention. But there is no evidence (证据) that creative people use the right side more, or that scientific people use the left side more.
We've talked about myths, so let's look at a few interesting facts about the brain. First of all, the brain feels no pain.
