For two years, I lived the life of a slave (奴隶). I wanted to run away, but it was impossible. My master liked to go fishing in a little boat, and he always took me with him. A man called Moely and a young boy also went with us.
One day my master said to me, “You go with Moely and the boy, and catch some fish for our supper tonight.”
“Yes, master,” I answered quickly, but inside I was excited—my chance came!
We took the boat out to sea. For a time, we fished quietly, and then I moved carefully behind Moely and knocked him into the water. “Swim!” I cried. “Swim to the beach!”
My master liked to shoot seabirds and so there were guns on the boat. Quickly, I took one of these guns. Moely was swimming after the boat and I shouted at him, “Go back to the beach, or I’ll shoot you through the head!” So Moely turned and swam back to the beach as quickly as possible.
Then I said to the boy, “Xury, if you help me, I’ll be a good friend to you. If you don’t help me, I’ll push you into the sea, too.”
But Xury was happy to help me. “I’ll go all over the world with you,” he cried.
I wanted to sail to the Canary Islands, but I was afraid to go too far from the beach. So we sailed on to the south for some days. Eleven days later we came near the Cape Verde Islands. Suddenly Xury saw a ship. We called and shouted and sailed our little boat as fast as possible. But no one on the ship saw us. Then I remembered the gun which made lots of smoke. Luckily, someone on the ship saw us and turned.
The Portuguese captain (船长) listened to my story. He was going to Brazil and agreed to help me. He bought my boat and Xury. When we arrived in Brazil three weeks later, I said goodbye to the captain and Xury, left the ship, and went to begin a new life.

①Is the rise of AI doctors like something out of science fiction? No, it is truly happening now. In different parts of China, we can clearly see how AI is bringing big changes to the medical field.
②In February 2025, Beijing Children’s Hospital introduced China’s first AI children’s doctor. One day, an 8-year-old boy had sudden and unexplained epilepsy (癫痫). Thirteen top doctors tried hard to find out the best treatment. At the same time, the AI quickly looked into the boy’s medical history and symptoms (症状). In just a few minutes, it came up with a plan that was very similar to what the human doctors thought.
③In Shandong, a worried couple decided to try an AI tool called DeepSeek when their child felt unwell. After offering the blood test results, DeepSeek suggested that the boy probably had a bad cold and recommended some medicine. Surprisingly when they went to the hospital, the doctor prescribed the exact same medicine.
④Even in places that don’t have many medical resources, like some community hospitals in Wuhan and countrysides in Shandong, AI is giving a helping hand. In Wuhan, hospitals can now use AI to study CT in less than a minute. Before, it would take hours. In Shandong countrysides, there are AI systems that help patients describe how they feel and even make it easier for disabled people to get around in the hospitals.
⑤All these real-life examples show us two important things that AI technology can do. It can help top doctors make better decisions and it can also make everyone in the country get health care more easily. However, the discussions are still going on. As one doctor said, “AI technology can give us ideas, but the care and judgment (判断) that humans bring are still needed.”
36. Why does the writer start the passage by asking questions?
A. To make a report. B. To introduce the topic. C. To have an interview. D. To do a survey.
37. Which is the meaning of the underlined word “prescribe” in Paragraph 3?
A. To advise or order the use of medication. B. To recommend the use of AI.
C. To set rules or steps that must be followed. D. To officially tell someone what to do.
38. Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A. In Wuhan community hospitals, it takes AI hours to study CT.
B. In Beijing, an AI children’s doctor helped an 8-year-old boy with a bad cold.
C. In Shandong countryside hospitals, AI can help the disabled get around easily.
D. AI doctors can hardly make everyone in the country get health care more easily.
39. What does the writer think of AI technology?
A. Touching. B. Worrying. C. Harmful. D. Helpful.
40. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
D
Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so that you forget the time? Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seemed to be away.
Most of us have had this experience at one time or another. This special state (状态) of mind is called “flow”. When it happens, we completely pay attention to what we are doing. We feel energetic, even excited about what we are doing. For example, when you are drawing, you might forget to eat dinner because you lose yourself in it. ①
The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist (心理学家) Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. According to his discovery, whether flow happens depends on the difficulty of the challenge and our skill levels. For example, if the task is low challenging and doesn’t require a lot of skills, we probably feel bored towards it. But facing a challenging task without the required skills could easily cause worry. He finally drew the conclusion that when the challenge is difficult and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens. ②
What advantages does flow bring? During flow, people can work faster and better. For example, artists said that they could produce more works easily “without putting in much effort” in the flow state. Flow can also make people more curious and creative because they have to look for new challenges and information to keep the state. ③
Flow often happens during creative activities and sports activities. But flow states aren’t just something experienced by artists, writers or sports persons. Flow can happen anytime a person is deeply lost in a task, including during learning activities. Many people want to achieve flow more often in their daily lives. While doing a task, having clear plans, adding something challengeable and giving and receiving feedback (反馈) in time can help achieve flow. It’s more difficult to achieve flow if people’s attention are distracted (分散), so it’s necessary that smartphones, TV and other distractions get turned off. ④
41. When people are in flow, they CAN’T ________.
A. forget the time B. hear the ringing of phones
C. give full attention to their tasks D. feel excited about what they do
42. According to Csikszentmihalyi’s study, which diagram (示意图) shows the flow state?
A. B.
C. D.
43. Where can the sentence “With flow, people have greater levels of happiness and satisfaction in their activities.” be put in the passage?
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④
44. Who can most probably achieve flow according to the passage?
A. A runner who wants to win the first prize in an important race.
B An artist who is drawing an apple for his 10—year—old daughter
C. A chess player who doesn’t know what to do before competitions.
D. A student who is taking an exam when having a headache.
45. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The early study on flow. B. The advantages of flow.
C. The requirements for flow. D. The introduction to flow.

Time capsules (胶囊) are small collections of goods or information that are stored somewhere safe. They can be opened by people many years later, giving future people an idea of life in the past. They may include newspaper articles, popular music recordings and photos. Historians can use time capsules to learn more about societies that lived in the past.
There are some famous time capsules in history. The first example is the Detroit Century Box. It is one of the earliest time capsules. On Dec 31, 1900, the city Detroit chose several photos and letters to be kept in a box. The box was locked then and opened one hundred years later. The things in the capsule give us a look at Detroit in the past. There were photos of people and places, as well as letters written by local people. Some of them even gave predictions (预测) for the future. One person thought that Detroit would have a population of 4 million by 2000. It turned out that the city’s population was about 951, 000 that year, according to historydetroit.com.
Humans have even sent time capsules into space! The US sent two time capsules into space on the Voyager (旅行者号) spacecraft in 1977. They’re called the Voyager Golden Records. They have sounds and pictures that show different kinds of human life and culture. For example, they have music by the classical composer Beethoven and pictures of plants, insects and landscapes. The Voyager spacecraft has traveled far away from our solar system. It is hoped that aliens might find the time capsules someday and learn about us.

【答案】例文1
Three years of junior high school life is coming to an end. I am proud that I have made progress in many ways through hard work in the past three years.
When I entered Grade 7, I always depended on my parents in life. My parents not only took good care of me but also had to work to support my family. They were tired out every day. So I decided to live by myself. I started to learn some necessary life skills through Xiaohongshu in my free time. In everyday life, I tried to look after myself. Sometimes I did housework. Now I can live on my own. My parents are happy with my progress.
From this experience, I have learned a lot. First, we should learn to be thankful to our parents. Second, life will become much easier when we learn to live by ourselves.
例文2
Three years of junior high school life is coming to an end. I am proud that I have made progress in many ways through my hard work in the past three years.
I still remember when I first entered junior high, I often forgot homework or studied at the last minute. My grades were not good, and I felt stressed. Then, I decided to change. First, I made a study plan and used a notebook to list daily tasks. Second, I reviewed notes after each class instead of waiting until exams. Besides, I asked teachers for help when I had questions.
Gradually, my grades improved. More importantly, I learned that good habits take time but are worth the effort. Now, I believe small steps can lead to big success.
