It was amazing. There are a lot of jobs for volunteers in Africa. I chose to work with animals and I helped look after young elephants. Many people do volunteer work in other countries. But you must think about it carefully. It isn’t an easy work. You have to work for long hours and sometimes things are very different from those in your own country. For example, the weather is sometimes terrible. It can be very hot or very cold. People who volunteer should be healthy, and also interested in different cultures. You learn a lot of new things when you work as a volunteer. Also, you don’t work on your own. You work with a team. So you need to have good communication skills. If you think it’s right for you, then you can call me at 334-1665 for more information.

When a teen and a parent argue, it does not mean that something is wrong with their relationship. It just means that they see things in different ways.
In the early years of children’s lives, parents are the most important people in their world. As children get older and have more contact with other people than their parents, their behavior will be influenced (影响) by other people.
Building up independence
As teens build up independence, parents need to understand a number of points. They are still the most important people in their children’s lives while teens are trying to become adults. One of their greatest difficulties is becoming independent while keeping a loving relationship with parents.
Fighting for control
When children are young, many parents keep control over most parts of their children’s life. As children grow older, they realize they can never grow into adults without having control of their lives. As a result, teens begin to fight for control. In this period, even a simple topic can trigger a disagreement.
In fact, teens are still worried about losing the most important thing in their lives, the love of parents. At the same time, parents may feel happy about teens’ abilities to care for them. It is important that everyone cares so greatly about each other.
▲
What are some ways parents can use to break the cycle of disagreements with their teens? First of all, be aware that teenagers must become independent to become adults.
If becoming independent is the task of children, then the task of parents must be to help their children reach independence.
Also, parents should try to keep the communication lines open and be a good example for their teens to follow. Sometimes parents may need to learn new ways to deal with their own problems, instead of allowing the teen’s fight for independence to mix with their problems.
66. Why do parents and teens argue with each other?
A. They don’t love each other anymore. B. They don’t see the world in the same way.
C. Teenagers want to live a totally independent life. D. Teenagers don’t care about parents’ love and support.

Bravely Face Problems
Problems and worries are normal in life. In my class, some students can’t get on well with their parents. Also, some don’t get enough sleep because they have lots of pressure from studies.
As for these problems, I have some advice. First, why not communicate with your parents more often? Sharing your feelings helps them understand you better. Second, you should finish your homework quickly and avoid staying up late. Developing a good habit of time management can ensure you enough sleep.
In my opinion, facing problems bravely is important. Only when we take action can we solve them and lead a happier life.

When we talk about communication, we often think of communicating with others. But do you know that we also do communication with ourselves from time to time? Picture this: Your mom asks you what you would like for breakfast. Many foods come to your mind: pancakes, bread, porridge … You think that it would be great to have pancakes. Until you tell your mom what you want to eat, you are communicating with yourself.
We call this kind of communication intrapersonal communication. This can be, talking to ourselves, reading, writing, thinking, understanding and remembering something.
Intrapersonal communication plays a big role in our lives. Good intrapersonal communication allows you to understand yourself better. When you’re comfortable with who you are, and you know what you want, you can better get on with yourself. Also, intrapersonal communication helps you to keep an eye on your thoughts and feelings. When you find that your mind is full of negative (消极的) thoughts and feelings, and that they make you sad, you will try to cheer up and get rid of these bad thoughts and feelings.
What’s more, intrapersonal communication helps with your communication with others. Understanding your thoughts and feelings better allows you to put yourself in others’ shoes when you talk to or listen to them. Then, you can better understand and get on with them.

What are some ways parents can use to break the cycle of disagreements with their teens? First of all, be aware that teenagers must become independent to become adults.
