W: Welcome to Stevenson’s, one of the country’s major producers of metal goods. Thank you for
choosing us for your two weeks of work experience. My name is Julia, the managing director. Stevenson’s is quite
an old company. It was set up in 1923 by Ronald Stevenson who went into the steel industry when he left school.
Stevenson’s original plan was to produce spare parts for the machine tools industry — although in fact that never
happened. Shortly before the company went into production, Stevenson was given the opportunity to make goods
for hospitals, so that’s what we did for the first five years. Now some idea of what you’ll be doing during your two
weeks with us. Most mornings you’ll have a presentation from one of the managers, to learn about their
department. And you’ll spend some time in each department, observing and talking to people. Normally a teacher
from your school will come in each week to find out how the group were getting on, but your school isn’t able to
arrange that this year. OK, are there any questions before we move on? …

文章以第一人称叙述(如“my favorite region”“Let me share my favorite...”),分
原文第三段提到:“Her death broke my heart. For years, I chased business success
but felt empty. At 41, I quit my job and earned a master’s degree...”
其他选项:A(赚钱)和 B(逃避悲伤)未提及;C(母亲直接建议)
与文中“she never pushed me”矛盾。
作者现在的工作是“teach women to face their fears”,两者都关注女性情感支持。
“work that connects Mom’s passion with my own fire”,故选 D。其他选项:A(直接教授护理技能)和
C(鼓励商业成功)与文意相反;B(资助学位)未提及。
其他选项:A(继续挖洞)和 B(连接无关事件)与文意不符;C(建立新家庭
母亲的精神(“Helping others... is about standing with them in the storm. That’s how Mom lived”)。
C
答案:28.C 29.B 30.D 31.A
解析:
选项:A(成功降低)与事实相反;D(年轻人肥胖率高)错误,文中强调中年群体肥胖率上升明显
60s now drink the most”),故选 B。
排除选项:A(退休后空闲时间多)和 B(应对健康问题)文中未提及;C(追赶年轻人)无依据。
人与老年人的健康选择)片面,未突出“变化”主题;D(年龄与流动性对健康的影响)仅部分涉及;
B(欧洲国家的肥胖问题)偏离英国核心讨论。
D
答案:32.D 33.C 34.A 35.A
解析:
排除选项:A(强调手机危害)和 C(描述实验过程)在首段未展开;B(解释玻璃盒
C. One-fifth of the students think smartphones are more important than studying.
校长原话“One in five students click faster than pens write”为比喻,暗指学生使用手机的频率远超用笔
义。排除选项:A(平衡手机与学习)和 D(因不用手机更专注)与原文“问题”语境矛盾;
B(需要医疗帮助)文中未提及。
排除选项:B(父母重视心理健康)和 C(后悔未给手机)与文中“parents expressed
regret saying they gave phones too early”矛盾;D(孩子离不开手机)与实验后学生适应无手机生活的
传递了“phone ban might rebuild balance in a screen and real world”的核心信息。
排除选项:B(显著提升学习)和 C(手机对交流至关重要)未
直接体现;D(所有学生不再用手机)与“most returned to their phones”矛盾。
Body language ... can either build trust and strengthen relationships or do the exact
opposite(肢体语言可以建立信任,加强人际关系,也可以起到相反的作用)表明了肢体语言能够带
Here are some of the most common body language mistakes and how to fix them (以下是一些最常
B 项中的 get it right 呼应下文中的 fix them,
37.A。 However, if you' re constantly shifting your weight, it makes you appear as if you' re
anxious to leave(然而,如果你不断地移动身体的重心,就会让人觉得你急于离开)表明,设空处与
语境,其中的 stand like a statue 与设空处后的 constantly shifting your weight 形成对比。
Rather than holding your phone in your hand, put it in a pocket or bag(不要把手机拿在
D 项中的 them
指代上文中的 the other person。
In many cases, people do this as a nervous habit(在很多情况下,人们这样做是一种紧张的习惯)表
C 项中的 They 和 they
Nodding, smiling, leaning in, and making small verbal responses ... are all ways to show sincere
interest(点头、微笑、身体前倾、做出简短的口头回应都是表达真诚兴趣的方式)给出了如何纠正
41-45 BDCCA 46-50 DACAB 51-55 ADCBB
解析:
D(inspiring)。
49. A. started 解析:此时开始写纸条,故选 A(started)。
51. A. here 解析:“I’m here”象征父亲始终在女儿身边支持,选 A。

A
Lazio is my favorite region in Italy. You can travel here by car or train to see amazing sights. Visit for a
day or stay longer to enjoy history, food, and peace. These places are not just pretty—they have secrets from
the past. Let me share my favorite hidden spots and popular towns.
Subiaco
This place mixes forests, rocks, and ancient monasteries. The Aniene River flows through it like a silver
ribbon. Don’t miss Monastery (修道院) of St. Scholastica with its beautiful yard. Climb into the Sacred Cave,
a 11th-century monastery carved into a mountain wall. Walk along the river to Nero’s Villa. In town, shop
for sandwiches or regional treats. Try Forno Maratta’s sweet cookies and bread doughnuts – I love these so

much!
Sutri
This small village is one of Italy’s most beautiful. Its main square has a bell tower and a fountain with
dolphins. Nearby, walk through quiet streets and see the Middle Ages’ Fortebracci Tower, which was both a
home and a castle. The Parco Archeologico is the highlight – explore a Roman amphitheater(古罗马剧场),
ancient tombs, and a mysterious temple. Finish your day with tasty dinner at La Cantina or Osteria.
Bracciano
Located in Tuscany, this town feels like a fairy tale. See the Church Santo Stefano, built in the 13th
century for a noble family. The star attraction is Castle Orsini Odescalchi, a grand castle from the 15th century.

At 45, I’ve found peace with choosing not to have children. This freedom came partly from my mother,
whose unconditional love shaped who I am. Even 20 years after her death, waves of sadness still surprise me
– like when I catch her smile in strangers’ faces.
Mom married Dad in her 20s and moved from England to a New Zealand beach village. After losing a
baby brother I never met, she rebuilt our lives with quiet strength. At 40, she became a nurse helping mothers
with postnatal depression(产后抑郁症). Her funeral(葬礼) told her secret achievement: women she’d saved
stood one by one to thank her.
Her death broke my heart. For years, I chased business success but meaningless. At 41, I quit my job
and earned a master’s degree studying Self-Doubt. Now I teach women to face their fears – work that connects
Mom’s passion with my own fire.
Mom taught me love isn’t about blood. Since losing her, I’ve been mothered by teachers, friends, even
strangers. Their hugs, advice, and shared tears stitch together the hole she left.
Sometimes I wonder if Mom knew how lost I felt. She never pushed me toward being a mother, trusting
I’d find my path. Her faith became my compass. Now when clients ask, “Am I doing enough well?” I hear
Mom’s answer: “You’re already so good.”
Last week, a client cried, “I made my kids feel disappointed with me.” I handed her tissues and said,
“Let’s breathe together.” In that moment, Mom’s hands held us both.
24. What encouraged the author to leave her job and pursue a master’s degree?

By 2025, Sir Keir Starmer wants many British people to say "Yes" to making their health better. Our
health problems and worse market economy need us to improve urgently. But bad habits cost Britain £100
billion each year, and the UK now has the highest obesity rates (肥胖率) in Europe.
Thirty-four years ago, British and French women had similar obesity levels (14% vs. 12%). Today,
France has cut its rate to 10%, while Britain's has doubled. Age affects us more than anything else - habits
change as we grow older but our money grows less. But which age group is the least healthy?
Surveys about exercise show a surprising difference. After the COVID-19, health became popular
mainly among young people, according to YouGov. However, people over 65 don't exercise any more than
they did five years ago — four out of ten never work out. Aging and mobility(流动性) problems explain
some of this, but a closer look shows one age group making poor choices.
Drinking habits also change as we age. In 1980, British men aged 18-29 drank more than 40 units of
alcohol (酒) each week, while older groups drank less. Today, young men drink 14 units (the recommended
amount., but men in their 60s now drink the most — double what their parents drank at the same age.
Women have a similar situation. Those in their 50s and 60s now drink twice as much as they did in 1980
— not because of “life stages,” but because baby boomers (born in 1946-1964) started drinking more in
midlife. Research shows they increased their alcohol intake more than previous ones.
Obesity rates are also higher among middle-aged British people. While young adults' rates haven't
changed much since 2009, middle-aged obesity has risen sharply. Why? Having more money to spend might
be a factor. Data from the Office for National Statistics shows that middle-aged people spend the most on
alcohol and cigarettes. Baby boomers who are retiring with savings might value enjoyment over being careful.
However, the rising number of liver disease deaths warns that this could have bad results.
28. What describes Britain’s obesity trend compared to other European countries?
A. Britain has successfully reduced obesity rates.
B. Britain’s obesity rates have remained the same.
C. Britain hasn’t made progress in reducing obesity rates.
D. Britain's obesity rate is largely among the young generations

Harry, an 11-year-old at Stanway School in England, locked his smartphone in a glass box for three
weeks. With 25 classmates, he took part in an experiment to explore how having no mobile phone affects
students' happiness. Led by scientist Professor Lisa Henderson, the study made a series of researches on
mood, brain activity, and cognitive (认知的) performance while recording the confusion of modern childhood.
The findings were unusual. According to Of.com, 97% of children own a phone by age 12, yet the
experiment showed serious phone dependence: 12-year-old Esme received 2,000 WhatsApp messages daily,
Liana started using her mother’s phone at age 4, and Ryley spent up to 10 hours daily on his phone during
summer. Teachers reported a 24 students’ increasing in anxiety cases, with Principal John Player highlighting
the problem: "One in five students click faster than pens write."
The experiment also demanded parents to face their own habits. Documentary host Emma Willis joined
the phone ban (禁令), with Emma admitting, "Our kids’ phones decide their lives, but we must protect them."
Without phones, students reconnected in real life. Girls chatted face-to-face, boys played football, and Theo
picked up a book after four months of ban. Maddie enjoyed biking, while Scarlett, 13, noticed "greater focus
and sociability." The results showed students slept an extra hour nightly, anxiety reduced, and social
relationships improved.
Parents expressed regret, saying they "gave phones too early." Isaac, 12, wondered, "Do I really need
this anymore?" Emma struggled to adapt the discomfort, while Matt rediscovered his guitar. Dr. Rangan
Chatterjee emphasized: "Better sleep could benefit youth mental health."
As students reclaimed their phones, the experiment left a lasting influence. Though most returned to
their phones, early data suggested a powerful message: phone ban might rebuild balance in a screen and real
world.

Steve was a big 12-year-old boy whose parents were alcoholic (酗酒的). Even though he could read the
words on a page, he struggled with understanding them and his schoolwork kept getting worse every year.
Most classmates didn't notice him until Miss White became his teacher.
She was kind and pretty, and Steve liked watching her. But during tests, his mind would fly to the woods
where he camped alone to escape his annoyance, trying to shut out the sights, sounds and smells of his
alcoholic home. He never missed a day of school—but his emptiness went unnoticed, because no one cared.
One day, Miss White said loudly after grading papers, "Steve!" She told the class, "You all did well...
except one boy. You are capable of so much more!" Everyone stared at Steve, who looked down at his hands.
For days, Steve still wouldn't do his homework even as the punishments became more severe. Finally,
Miss White pulled him aside. “Just try it! ONE WEEK!” She urged, “Give yourself a chance.”
At home that night, Steve’s parents were yelling as usual. But he heard Miss White's voice echo in his
mind, “Steve! Please! I care about you!” Those words changed everything. For the first time, school felt like
a place where someone believed in him. For the first time, he would like to open his backpack and do the
homework.
