Your preferred city is Guangzhou. In Guangzhou this week, we expect more heavy rains, since we are only at the beginning of June. May was rather dry, but the storms should pick up again before the weekend. Hong Kong is expected to get hit hardest with this next cycle of rain, but everywhere south of Shanghai along the coast should see some amount of rainfall. Guangzhou will get around four centimeters over the next five days. Another band of rain can be seen on the radar, but it’s too far south over the sea right now. So it’s hard to say when it will hit Guangzhou. This weather pattern should continue through June and into July, when the heavy rains will finally move to the north of China. This is the latest update for your Guangzhou weather. The team studied the daytime screen-based activities of 475 teenagers using daily surveys. They asked the teens how many hours they had spent that day communicating with friends through social media and how many hours they spent playing video games, surfing the internet and watching television or videos. Finally, the researchers asked if they had joined in any of these activities in the hour before bed. Next, the team measured their sleep time for one week. The researchers found that the teens spent an average of two hours per day communicating with friends via social media, about 1.3 hours playing video games, less than an hour surfing the internet and about 1.7 hours watching television or videos. For every hour throughout the day that they used screens to communicate with friends, they fell asleep about 11 minutes later averagely. For every hour to play video games, they fell asleep about 9 minutes later. Those who talked, texted or played games in the hour before bed lost the most sleep: about 30 minutes later. Interestingly, David, lead author of the study, said the team found no obvious relations between passive screen-based activities and sleep. “It could be that passive activities are less mentally exciting than interactive activities,” said Anne, co-author of the study. “It’s a tricky situation,” she said. “These screen tools are really important to everyone nowadays, so it’s hard to put a limit on them, but if you’re really looking out for a teenager’s health and well-being, you might consider limiting the more interactive activities, especially in the hour before bed.” 34. Which of the following belongs to interactive screen activities? A. Seeing movies. B. Watching videos. C. Texting friends. D. Surfing the internet. 35. Who might lose the most sleep according to the text? A. Lucy who watched a three-hour movie before going to bed. B. Jack who had a 30-minute video chat with his brother before bed. C. Sam who played computer games for two hours throughout the day. D. Amy who chatted with her friends on WeChat for one hour in the morning. 36. What does the underlined word “tricky” mean in paragraph 4? A. Frightening. B. Awkward. C. Hopeless. D. Encouraging. 37. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Screen time activities cut down our sleep hours B. Interactive screen use reduces sleep time in teenagers C. Passive screen use is better than interactive screen use D. Parents should prevent children from using social media 【答案】34. C 35. B 36. B 37. 根据第一段“While screen time is known to affect sleep, new research suggests that interactive (互动的) activities, such as texting friends or playing video games, put off and reduce the time spent asleep to a greater degree than passive (被动的) screen time like watching television, especially for teens.(虽然看屏幕的时间会影响睡眠,但新的研究表明,互动活动,如给朋友发短信或玩电子游戏,比看电视等被动屏幕时间更能推迟和减少睡眠时间,尤其是对青少年来说)”可知,给朋友发短信属于交互式屏幕活动。 根据第三段“Those who talked, texted or played games in the hour before bed lost the most sleep: about 30 minutes later.(那些在睡前一小时聊天、发短信或玩游戏的人失眠最严重:大约30分钟后才入睡)”可知,杰克在睡觉前和他哥哥视频聊了30分钟可能会失去最多的睡眠。 根据划线词后文“These screen tools are really important to everyone nowadays, so it’s hard to put a limit on them, but if you’re really looking out for a teenager’s health and well-being, you might consider limiting the more interactive activities, especially in the hour before bed.” 根据第一段“While screen time is known to affect sleep, new research suggests that interactive (互动的) activities, such as texting friends or playing video games, put off and reduce the time spent asleep to a greater degree than passive (被动的) screen time like watching television, especially for teens.(虽然看屏幕的时间会影响睡眠,但新的研究表明,互动活动,如给朋友发短信或玩电子游戏,比看电视等被动屏幕时间更能推迟和减少睡眠时间,尤其是对青少年来说)”结合文章主要说明了与被动屏幕时间相比,互动性活动,如与朋友发短信或玩视频游戏,对睡眠的影响更大,尤其是对青少年而言。 B。 A growing interest in exotic pets is drawing young people to pet cafes and social media. Even on a weekday, Kitty Zoo, a pet cafe in Changzhou, Jiangsu, which was founded just two months ago by Tang Rong, attracts a crowd of visitors, all eager to meet its star, a capybara named Jilizhazha. The term “exotic pets” refers to animals beyond traditional companions like cats and dogs. They are relatively rare or unusual to keep, not native to the owner’s locals. On the platform Xiaohongshu, the “exotic pets” has got over 360 million views, showing pet owners caring for popular animals such as capybaras, raccoons. 23-year-old Jiang Tao began raising raccoons at home last April, inspired by their classic imagery on a popular childhood snack in China. Today, Jiang Tao has over 500,000 followers on Douyin, with his most attractive content centered on his raccoons. While raising exotic pets brings unique experiences, the owners advise to think twice before we bring these animals home. For Jiang Tao, the primary cost of raising raccoons comes from their destructive nature. “One of them knocked over my TV, costing me 2,000 yuan,” he recalled with a laugh. In addition to managing their wild behaviors, pet owners must also create specific living environments and provide daily care for these unique animals. Capybaras, for example, need regular baths in special pools, and their living spaces must be heated during winter, according to Tang. She explained that a typical male capybara can weigh up to 50 kg and eat a lot, producing a large amount of waste. “Unless you have a large yard or enough space, keeping a capybara indoors isn’t practical,” she advised. Moreover, Huang Yuan, a senior doctor at a pet hospital in Wuhan, highlighted important consideration for exotic pet owners: the limited access to hospitals equipped to treat exotic animals. For example, only about 20 out of the 300 to 400 pet hospitals in Wuhan are currently equipped to treat exotic animals professionally. So while exotic pets charm us, we must remember: behind every cute exotic pet lies devotion few are ready for. 38. What do we know about Kitty Zoo? A. It closes on weekends. B. It is a popular social media. C. It is where visitors rest. D. It has a star pet named Jilizhazha. 39. Which of the followings belong to exotic pets? A. Cats. B. Rabbits. C. Raccoons. D. Chickens. 40. What can we infer about the exotic pet owners? A. They prepare TV sets for them. B. They take much energy for them. C. They put them in pet hospitals. D. They keep them indoors all the time. 41. What is the author’s attitude towards raising exotic pets? A. Supportive. B. Cautious. C. Objective. D. Doubtful. D 39. C 40. B 41. 根据第一段“Even on a weekday, Kitty Zoo, a pet cafe in Changzhou, Jiangsu, which was founded just two months ago by Tang Rong, attracts a crowd of visitors, all eager to meet its star, a capybara named Jilizhazha.(即使在工作日,江苏常州的Kitty Zoo也吸引了一大群游客,他们都渴望见到它的明星——一只名叫jiilizhazha的水豚)”可知,Kitty Zoo有一只明星宠物,名叫jiilizhazha。 根据第四段“While raising exotic pets brings unique experiences, the owners advise to think twice before we bring these animals home. For Jiang Tao, the primary cost of raising raccoons comes from their destructive nature. “One of them knocked over my TV, costing me 2,000 yuan,” he recalled with a laugh.(虽然饲养异国情调的宠物会带来独特的体验,但主人们建议在把这些动物带回家之前要三思。对蒋涛来说,饲养浣熊的主要成本来自于它们的破坏性。“其中一个撞翻了我的电视,花了我2000元,”他笑着回忆道)”可知,浣熊属于异国宠物,所以浣熊属于外来宠物。故选C项。 【40题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“For Jiang Tao, the primary cost of raising raccoons comes from their destructive nature. “One of them knocked over my TV, costing me 2,000 yuan,” he recalled with a laugh.(对蒋涛来说,饲养浣熊的主要成本来自于它们的破坏性。“其中一个撞翻了我的电视,花了我2000元,”他笑着回忆道)”以及第五段“In addition to managing their wild behaviors, pet owners must also create specific living environments and provide daily care for these unique animals. Capybaras, for example, need regular baths in special pools, and their living spaces must be heated during winter, according to Tang. She explained that a typical male capybara can weigh up to 50 kg and eat a lot, producing a large amount of waste. “Unless you have a large yard or enough space, keeping a capybara indoors isn’t practical,” she advised.(除了管理它们的野生行为,宠物主人还必须创造特定的生活环境,并为这些独特的动物提供日常照顾。例如,水豚需要在特殊的水池中定期洗澡,它们的生活空间在冬天必须加热,唐说。她解释说,一只典型的雄性水豚体重可达50公斤,吃得很多,产生大量废物。“除非你有一个大院子或足够的空间,否则在室内养水豚是不现实的,”她建议道)”可推知,异国宠物的主人需要管理它们的野生行为还要创造特定的生活环境,所以是需要很大的精力。故选B项。 【41题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“So while exotic pets charm us, we must remember: behind every cute exotic pet lies devotion few are ready for.(所以,当异国宠物吸引着我们的时候,我们必须记住:在每只可爱的异国宠物背后,都有很少人准备好的忠诚)”可知,作者认为饲养外来宠物,需要有很少人准备好的忠诚,所以应是谨慎的。故选B项。 New scientific research has found that attending live sporting events enhances levels of wellbeing. Published in the journal Frontiers in Public Health, the research is the first large-sized study to examine the benefits of attending any type of live sporting event. It found that attending live sporting events results in higher scores of two major measurements of subjective wellbeing-life satisfaction and a sense of “life being worthwhile” — as well as lower levels of loneliness. These results are significant as previous studies have shown that higher life satisfaction scores are associated with fewer life-limiting conditions, better physical health and successful ageing. The new study also found that attending live sporting events leads to an increase in people’s sense that “life is worthwhile,” and the size of this increase is comparable to that of gaining employment. Watching live sporting events can also offer an accessible and effective public health tool for improving wellbeing. Lead author Dr Helen Keyes, Head of the School of Psychology and Sport Science at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), said: “Previous research has focused on certain sports or small population groups, such as college students in the United States. Ours is the first study to look at the benefits of attending any sporting event across an adult population, and therefore our findings could be useful for shaping future public health strategies, such as offering reduced ticket prices for certain groups.” The live events covered by the survey ranged from free amateur (业余的) events, such as watching village sports teams, right through to Premier League football matches. Therefore, further research needs to be carried out to see if these benefits are more pronounced for top level sport, or are more closely linked to supporting a specific team. However, without doubt, watching live sport of all types provides many opportunities for social interaction and this helps to shape group identity and belonging, which in turn boosts levels of wellbeing. 42. What can we learn about the new study from the passage? A. The study only covered Premier League football matches. B. Watching live sporting events has little effect on one’s wellbeing. C. It is the first one to study the benefits of attending live sporting events. D. Attending live sporting events increases life satisfaction and a sense of meaning. 43. What’s Dr. Helen Keyes’s attitude to the study? A. Objective. B. Neutral. C. Negative. D. Positive. 44. What does the underlined word “pronounced” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Suitable. B. Noticeable. C. Powerful. D. Important. 45. What is the best title for the passage? A. Attending Live Sport Improves Wellbeing B. Watching Live Sporting Events Has Many Benefits C. A Research on the Popularity of Live Sporting Events D. A Study on the Effects of Sporting Events on Physical Health 【答案】42. D 43. D 44. B 45. 根据文章第二段“It found that attending live sporting events results in higher scores of two major measurements of subjective wellbeing-life satisfaction and a sense of “life being worthwhile” — as well as lower levels of loneliness. (研究发现,观看现场体育赛事的人在主观幸福感的两项主要指标——生活满意度和“生活有价值”感——上得分更高,孤独感也更低) ”可知,现场观看体育赛事可以提高生活满意度和生活意义。故选D项。 【43题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中Dr. Helen Keyest的话“Ours is the first study to look at the benefits of attending any sporting event across an adult population, and therefore our findings could be useful for shaping future public health strategies…(我们的研究是第一个观察成年人参加任何体育赛事的好处的研究,因此我们的研究结果可能对制定未来的公共卫生战略有用)”可以看出,她对自己的研究持积极态度,认为这项研究对未来公共卫生策略的制定是有用的。 根据第五段“The live events covered by the survey ranged from free amateur (业余的) events, such as watching village sports teams, right through to Premier League football matches. Therefore, further research needs to be carried out to see if these benefits are more pronounced for top level sport, or are more closely linked to supporting a specific team.(调查涵盖的现场活动范围从免费的业余活动,比如观看乡村运动队,一直到英超联赛。因此,需要进行进一步的研究,看看这些好处是在顶级运动中更pronounced,还是与支持某个特定团队更密切相关)”可知,调查涵盖的现场活动范围从免费的业余活动,因此,需要进行进一步的研究,看看这些好处是在顶级运动中更明显。在这里,“pronounced”意味着“明显的、显著的”,与B项“noticeable”意思相符。故选B项。 【45题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“New scientific research has found that attending live sporting events enhances levels of wellbeing.(新的科学研究发现,观看现场体育赛事可以提高幸福水平)”可知,短文主要讲述了观看现场体育赛事提高幸福感的研究。 故选A项。 You probably know better than to eat a strawberry straight from the box without washing it. Fruits and vegetables are often coated in harmful pesticides (农药) to prevent pests when they’re growing. These chemicals are not exactly safe for human either. And while you probably wash off your produce before eating it, even a thorough wash with water isn’t enough to properly get rid of all the pesticides. In the new study published in the American Chemical Society’s journal Nano Letters, experts find that simply washing your fruits and vegetables “cannot wholly remove pesticides” because they can actually “enter inside of fruit through the skin.” The pesticides left behind on the skin of produce are fat-soluble (溶脂的), which basically just means they aren’t as easy to get rid of. That doesn’t, however, mean you have a life of pesticide-full apples and oranges. “The research suggests that peeling (削皮) can effectively remove nearly all pesticide remains, contrasted with the frequently recommended practice of washing,” study co-author Professor Ye said. If you’re not planning to peel your fruit and vegetables, Professor Ye suggests soaking (浸泡) the produce in a solution (溶液) of salt, a solution of soda, or a solution of vinegar. “This will help to remove many of the pesticides found in produce.” “The waxy layers (蜡质层) of produce hold on to pesticides and are very difficult to remove using water alone,” said Dr. Bryan, food scientist and author of 150 Food Science Questions Answered. He stressed, “Chemical treatments are needed to effectively remove the waxy layers. However, peeling remains the most effective way to remove a large concentration of pesticides.” While you’re not going to die over one unwashed blueberry, long-term pesticide consumption can increase your risk of cancer and cause birth problems, immune system disease, and other diseases, according to Dr. Bryan. 46. What can we learn about fruits and vegetables according to the text? A. They go bad easily. B. They have harmful chemicals. C. They are ruined by pests. D. They can be eaten without washing. 47. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A What pesticides are. B. How the new study is conducted. C. Why pesticides are hard to remove. D. Where the new study is published. 48. What is the most effective way to deal with apples with pesticides? A. To peel them. B. To clear the waxy layers. C. To have a thorough wash. D. To soak them in a solution of salt. 49. What is the main idea of the text? A. The ways to wash fruits and vegetables. B. The differences between organic fruits and chemical fruits. C. The long-term risks caused by eating fruits with pesticides. D. The suggestions to kill off pesticides in fruits and vegetables. B 47. C 48. A 49. 根据第一段“You probably know better than to eat a strawberry straight from the box without washing it. Fruits and vegetables are often coated in harmful pesticides (农药) to prevent pests when they’re growing. These chemicals are not exactly safe for human either. And while you probably wash off your produce before eating it, even a thorough wash with water isn’t enough to properly get rid of all the pesticides.(你可能知道不要不洗就直接吃盒子里的草莓。水果和蔬菜在生长过程中经常被涂上有害的杀虫剂,以防止害虫。这些化学物质对人体也不完全安全。虽然你可能会在吃之前把农产品洗干净,但即使用水彻底清洗也不足以彻底去除所有的农药)”可知,水果和蔬菜含有有害化学物质。故选B项。 【47题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段“In the new study published in the American Chemical Society’s journal Nano Letters, experts find that simply washing your fruits and vegetables “cannot wholly remove pesticides” because they can actually “enter inside of fruit through the skin.” The pesticides left behind on the skin of produce are fat-soluble (溶脂的), which basically just means they aren’t as easy to get rid of.(在美国化学学会杂志《纳米快报》上发表的一项新研究中,专家们发现,仅仅清洗水果和蔬菜“并不能完全去除农药”,因为它们实际上可以“通过表皮进入水果内部”。残留在农产品表皮上的农药是脂溶性的,这基本上意味着它们不那么容易被清除)”可知,本段主要讲述了为什么农药很难去除。故选C项。 【48题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“That doesn’t, however, mean you have a life of pesticide-full apples and oranges. “The research suggests that peeling (削皮) can effectively remove nearly all pesticide remains, contrasted with the frequently recommended practice of washing,” study co-author Professor Ye said.(然而,这并不意味着你的生活充满了杀虫剂的苹果和橙子。“研究表明,与经常被推荐的清洗做法相比,去皮可以有效去除几乎所有残留的农药,”该研究的合著者叶教授说)”可知,处理有杀虫剂的苹果的最好方法是削皮。故选A项。 根据倒数第二段““The waxy layers (蜡质层) of produce hold on to pesticides and are very difficult to remove using water alone,” said Dr. Bryan, food scientist and author of 150 Food Science Questions Answered. He stressed, “Chemical treatments are needed to effectively remove the waxy layers. However, peeling remains the most effective way to remove a large concentration of pesticides.”(食品科学家、《150个食品科学问题解答》(150 food Science Questions answer)一书的作者布莱恩博士说:“农产品的蜡状层附着着农药,很难单用水去除。”他强调说:“需要化学处理来有效地去除蜡层。然而,剥皮仍然是去除高浓度农药的最有效方法。”)”以及纵观全文可知,本文主要讲述了消除水果和蔬菜中的农药的建议。故选D项。 With the increasing popularity of social websites and personal online blogs, the act of oversharing has become more common. ___50___ Telling a co-worker you don’t want a piece of birthday cake may be acceptable, but adding the fact you’re on a diet to lose 50 pounds would be oversharing. Here are some reasons that lead to oversharing. Some oversharing is the result of a poorly developed social filter or “shut up button.” A mother may feel comfortable oversharing details of the birthing process with co-workers, for example, not realizing she is making others feel uncomfortable. ___51___ Sometimes, oversharing is an attempt to break the ice or build closeness by sharing small embarrassing moments. ___52___ However, there are still some lines which should not be crossed. For example, an employer should not share personal details with an employee, because their relationship includes a level of respect for the employer’s authority. Oversharing can in turn do harm to their relation. ___53___ Those with few friends may see co-workers or strangers as family, sharing more than proper. While it may not be acceptable to tell too much information to strangers, it may feel acceptable to overshare with co-workers at lunch or the friendly cashier at a local restaurant. Some people feel a level of closeness which does not actually exist, but it is not real at all. ___54___ We should avoid sharing too much with those who are not expecting it. A. Oversharing results from a need for attention. B. Another cause for oversharing is having no close friends. C. This form of oversharing may have some immediate benefits. D. Some people may not realize the effect of their oversharing on others. E. While some oversharing is socially acceptable, it’s wise to think twice. F. Oversharing means sharing too much personal information with other people. G. Once it happens, it becomes difficult to erase those images from others’ minds. 50. F 51. G 52. C 53. B 54. While it may not be acceptable to tell too much information to strangers, it may feel acceptable to overshare with co-workers at lunch or the friendly cashier at a local restaurant.(那些朋友很少的人可能会把同事或陌生人视为家人,分享得太多了。 【54题详解】 根据下文“We should avoid sharing too much with those who are not expecting it.(我们应该避免与那些没有期待的人分享太多)”可知,最后一段总结全文,强调在分享时应谨慎,空处说明对待过度分享的态度。 四、完形填空(每小题1分,总分15分) Five years ago, I got an email from a well-known professor in my field in March. A. the state academic competitions B. middle school clubs C. extra-curricular homework D. the gifted students While screen time is known to affect sleep, new research suggests that interactive (互动的) activities, such as texting friends or playing video games, put off and reduce the time spent asleep to a greater degree than passive (被动的) screen time like watching television, especially for teens. Parents should prevent children from using social media A growing interest in exotic pets is drawing young people to pet cafes and social media. 38 What do we know about Kitty Zoo? A. Supportive. B. Cautious. C. Objective. D. Doubtful. New scientific research has found that attending live sporting events enhances levels of wellbeing. A Study on the Effects of Sporting Events on Physical Health You probably know better than to eat a strawberry straight from the box without washing it. A. What pesticides are. With the increasing popularity of social websites and personal online blogs, the act of oversharing has become more common. G. Once it happens it becomes difficult to erase those images from others’ minds. 四、完形填空(每小题1分,总分15分) Five years ago, I got an email from a well-known professor in my field in March.
