B After I graduated with a Master’s in public relations in 2010, my first boss congratulated me, but he also brought me right back down to earth pretty quickly when he told me that I’d have to continue my education in order to progress throughout my career. I remember feeling shocked at the prospect, as I had sworn (发誓) I was done with essays and exams forever. Yet, here I was, hearing that I’d never truly be fully “educated”. I keep his words in mind, and whenever I find myself at a crossroads, I turn to education. When I decided to do an MBA in 2021, the big questions for me were: Where, and when? Dublin City University (DCU) stood out as I had benefited from what the university offered while studying for my degree in multimedia back in 2005. The course also took place on Thursdays, which allowed me flexibility at weekends. This was essential to balancing the course with my full-time work and family commitments. Over the two years of the course, I changed jobs twice, moving into global roles, which required a whole new degree of performance and commitment at work. I went to two FIFA World Cups leading social impact campaigns as part of the FIFA Communications team, and I was pregnant with my first child during my final term. Each of my classmates had their own unique journeys as well. Life happens anyway. I think the real question when you’re pursuing further education is “why”. If your “why” is strong enough and you truly believe in the benefits, the sacrifices (牺牲) that come alongside studying part-time become much easier. Our class gathered together each Thursday, enjoying the companionship beyond our traditional networking, which is truly a “money can’t buy” bonus of taking the course. I also found myself going into work each week with new strings added to my bow. I have seen my career progress in ways I couldn’t have imagined. And as for the advice of my first boss, surely I’m finished with essays and exams by now. 4. Why did the author choose to study part-time at DCU? A. It enabled her to study on weekends. B. It had a reputation for MBA programs. C. She had positive experience at DCU. D. She could set her own class schedule. 5. What happened to the author while she was pursuing her MBA? A. She got another college degree. B. She put her family ahead of work. C. She completely changed her career. D. She advanced her professional career. 6. What is an unexpected benefit of taking the MBA course? A. Starting a family. B. Developing friendships. C. Avoiding personal sacrifices. D. Getting more job opportunities. 7. What motivated the author to take lifelong education? A. Her desire for self-improvement. B. Her belief in its benefits. C. Her family’s encouragement. D. Her classmates’ persuasion. C Some new personal computers that run Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system will have a special Copilot key that launches the software giant’s AI chatbot. Getting third-party computer manufacturers like Dell to add an AI button to laptops is the latest move by Microsoft to use its close partnership with ChatGPT-maker Open AI and make itself a gateway for applications of generative AI technology. Although most people now connect to the Internet and many Al applications by phone rather than computer, it’s a symbolic kickoff to what’s expected to be a competitive year as tech companies race to outdo each other in AI applications. The keyboard redesign will be Microsoft’s biggest change to PC keyboards since it introduced a special Windows key in the 1990s. Microsoft’s four-squared logo design has changed, but the key has been a fixture on Windows-oriented keyboards for about three decades. The newest AI button will be marked by the ribbon-like Copilot logo and be located near the space bar. On some computers it will replace the right “CTRL” key, while on others it will replace a menu key. Microsoft is not the only company with customized keys. Apple pioneered the concept in the 1980s with its “Command” key marked by a looped square design. Google has a search button on its Chromebooks and was first to experiment with an AI-specific key to launch its voice assistant on its now-discontinued Pixelbook. But Microsoft has a much stronger hold on the broader PC market through its licensing agreements with third-party manufacturers like Lenovo, Dell and HP. About 82% of all desktop computers, laptops and workstations run Windows, compared to 9% for Apple’s in-house operating system and just over 6% for Google’s, according to market research firm IDC. Dell Technologies was the first to fix a Copilot key on its newest XPS laptops. Microsoft hasn’t yet said which other computer makers are installing (安装) the Copilot button beyond Microsoft’s own in-house line of premium (高端的) Surface devices. 8. Why does Microsoft introduce the new keyboard? A. To improve the typing speed of users. B. To cooperate with more computer makers. C. To give itself an advantage in competition. D. To sell the Windows 11 operating system. 9 What can be learned about the Copilot key? A. It is a great step forward. B. It will only be used by Dell. C. It will replace the space bar. D. It carries Microsoft’s logo. 10. Which company has the biggest influence on the broader PC market? A. Apple. B. Google. C. Microsoft. D. Dell. 11. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Microsoft’s New AI Key Is a Big Change to Keyboards B. Google Plans to Release New Features for Its Search Key C. Apple’s Updated Command Key Is Set to Change Keyboard Design D. The New Generation of Smartphones Has Advanced AI Capabilities D There could be a new competitor for the heaviest animal that ever lived. While today’s blue whale has long held the title, scientists have dug up fossils from an ancient animal that could tip the scales. Researchers described the species, named Perucetus colossus, or “the colossal whale from Peru” — in the journal Nature. Each vertebra (椎骨) weighs over 220 pounds (100 kilograms) and its ribs (肋骨) measure nearly 5 feet (1.4 meters) long. The bones were discovered more than a decade ago. An international team spent years digging them out of the side of a steep, rocky slope in the Ica desert, a region in Peru that was once underwater and is known for its rich sea fossils. The results: 13 vertebrae from the whale’s backbone, four ribs and a hip bone. They calculated that the ancient animal weighed somewhere between 94 and 375 tons (85 and 340 metric tons). The biggest blue whales found have been within that range-at around 200 tons (180 metric tons). Its body stretched to around 66 feet (20 meters) long. Blue whales can be longer-with some growing to more than 100 feet (30 meters) in length. This means the newly discovered whale was possibly the heaviest animal ever study author Alberto Collareta said, but it was most likely not the longest animal ever. It weighs more in part because its bones are much denser and heavier than a blue whale’s bones, study author Eli Amson explained. Those super-dense bones suggest that the whale may have spent its time in shallow, coastal waters, the authors said. Other coastal residents, like manatees, have heavy bones to help them stay close to the seafloor. Without the skull (头骨), it’s hard to know what the whale was eating to sustain such a huge body, Amson said. It’s possible that Perucetus colossus was searching for food along the seafloor, researchers said, or eating up tons of shellfish and other tiny sea creatures in the water. “But I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing actually fed in a totally different way that we would never imagine,” paleontologist Hans Thewissen said. 12. What does the underlined part “tip the scales” in paragraph I probably mean? A. Reduce the effect. B. Change the situation. C. Provide the evidence. D. Make it reasonable. 13. What can we learn about the bones? A. They were from one whale. B. They were in perfect condition. C. They were similar to other fossils. D. They were made up of different parts. 14. What do researchers conclude about Perucetus colossus from their research? A. It was probably the longest whale due to its dense bones. B. It was probably more adapted to deep ocean environments. C. It probably fed on large sea mammals in open waters. D. It probably had a similar habitat to manatees. 15. What does Hans Thewissen suggest about the whale’s feeding method? A. It frequently changed over time. B. It was similar to that of modern whales. C. It primarily targeted tiny organisms in the water. D. It may have had a completely unexpected feeding strategy. Many people have such a friend — one who understands and empathizes with them; one who always knows what to say when they are upset; one who they feel comfortable unburdening themselves to. They’ve been inseparable since childhood, experiencing life’s ups and downs together. Whether they were tackling projects or exploring possibilities, their teamwork was always perfect. They were not just friends; they were each other’s rock. Next month, Lucas was about to celebrate his twentieth birthday, and Ethan was determined to make it an unforgettable occasion. He knew how much Lucas had always dreamed of owning a classic motorbike-a piece of machinery that would turn heads wherever it went. To make this dream come true, Ethan had been secretly searching for the perfect motorbike for months. Ethan’s search led him to distant town where an auction (拍卖) was taking place. He spent countless hours researching and attending local motorbike shows, trying to find the ideal motorbike that could match Lucas’ taste. Finally, he discovered an amazing classic motorbike at an auction that was exactly what Lucas had always wanted. It was a beautiful 1960s classic one, shining with chrome (铬合金) accents and a special classic design. With a mix of excitement and anxiety, Ethan made his bid (出价) at the auction. His heart raced with every increase in the price. The anticipation was almost unbearable, but in the end, he won the auction. Ethan was excited-he secured the perfect birthday gift for Lucas. The next step was to transport the motorbike back to their city. Ethan decided to drive it himself, eager to surprise Lucas personally. So on a sunny morning, he set off, feeling the wind in his hair and the powerful roar of the engine. The journey was initially smooth, and Ethan enjoyed every moment, imagining Lucas’ reaction when he would finally see the motorbike. However, the weather took a dramatic turn in just a few minutes. A sudden thunderstorm rolled in, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and near-zero visibility. The road became dangerous, and Ethan struggled to keep control of the motorbike. C 5. D 6. B 7. 根据第二段中“When I decided to do an MBA in 2021, the big questions for me were: Where, and when? (2021年当我决定攻读MBA时,面临的首要问题是:去哪里读?什么时候读?都柏林城市大学(DCU)成为我的首选,因为早在2005年攻读多媒体学位时,我就曾受益于这所大学提供的优质教育资源)”可知,作者选择DCU是因为她过去在该校有良好的学习经历。故选C项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Over the two years of the course, I changed jobs twice, moving into global roles, which required a whole new degree of performance and commitment at work. I went to two FIFA World Cups leading social impact campaigns as part of the FIFA Communications team (在为期两年的MBA课程期间,我先后更换了两次工作,开始担任全球性职位,这要求我在工作中展现出全新的工作表现和投入度。作为国际足联传播团队的一员,我参与了两届世界杯足球赛,负责领导社会影响力宣传活动)”可知,在攻读MBA期间,作者在事业上取得了进展。故选D项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Our class gathered together each Thursday, enjoying the companionship beyond our traditional networking, which is truly a “money can’t buy” bonus of taking the course. (我们每周四都会聚在一起上课,这种超越传统社交的同伴情谊,正是这门课程带来的“金钱买不到”的珍贵收获)”可知,发展出友谊是学习MBA课程的一个意想不到的好处。故选B项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“I think the real question when you’re pursuing further education is “why”. If your “why” is strong enough and you truly believe in the benefits, the sacrifices (牺牲) that come alongside studying part-time become much easier. (我认为,继续深造时真正关键的问题是“为什么”。如果你的求学动机足够坚定,并且真正相信它带来的价值,那么兼顾工作和学习的种种牺牲就会变得容易许多)”可知,作者非常认可教育带来的价值,认为这是求学的关键,再结合文中作者多次提到她从攻读MBA的经历中获益良多可推知,作者持续学习是因为坚信终身教育的好处。故选B项。 C Some new personal computers that run Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system will have a special Copilot key that launches the software giant’s AI chatbot. 9. What can be learned about the Copilot key? The New Generation of Smartphones Has Advanced AI Capabilities 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. C 11. 根据文章第二段“Although most people now connect to the Internet and many Al applications by phone rather than computer, it’s a symbolic kickoff to what’s expected to be a competitive year as tech companies race to outdo each other in AI applications(尽管现在大多数人通过手机而不是电脑连接互联网和许多人工智能应用程序,但这是一个象征性的开端,预示着这将是具有竞争力的一年,因为科技公司竞相在人工智能应用方面超越对方)”可知,微软推出新键盘是为了在竞争中占据优势。 根据文章第二段“The keyboard redesign will be Microsoft’s biggest change to PC keyboards since it introduced a special Windows key in the 1990s.(键盘重新设计将是自上世纪90年代微软推出特殊的Windows键以来,对个人电脑键盘做出的最大改变)”可知,键盘重新设计是对个人电脑键盘做出的最大改变,可推理出Copilot键的推出是一个很大的进步,故选A项。 根据文章第三段“But Microsoft has a much stronger hold on the broader PC market through its licensing agreements with third-party manufacturers like Lenovo, Dell and HP. About 82% of all desktop computers, laptops and workstations run Windows, compared to 9% for Apple’s in-house operating system and just over 6% for Google’s, according to market research firm IDC(但通过与联想、戴尔和惠普等第三方制造商的许可协议,微软在更广泛的个人电脑市场上拥有更强的控制力。根据市场研究公司国际数据公司(IDC)的数据,所有台式电脑、笔记本电脑和工作站中约82%运行Windows系统,相比之下,苹果的内部操作系统占9%,谷歌的略高于6%)”可知,在更广泛的个人电脑市场上,微软的影响力最大。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Some new personal computers that run Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system will have a special Copilot key that launches the software giant’s AI chatbot. Getting third-party computer manufacturers like Dell to add an AI button to laptops is the latest move by Microsoft to use its close partnership with ChatGPT-maker Open AI and make itself a gateway for applications of generative AI technology(一些运行微软Windows 11操作系统的新个人电脑将配备一个专门的Copilot键,用于启动这家软件巨头的AI聊天机器人。让戴尔等第三方计算机制造商在笔记本电脑上添加一个AI按钮,是微软利用其与ChatGPT制造商OpenAI的紧密合作关系,使自己成为生成式AI技术应用门户的最新举措)”、第三段“But Microsoft has a much stronger hold on the broader PC market through its licensing agreements with third-party manufacturers like Lenovo, Dell and HP. About 82% of all desktop computers, laptops and workstations run Windows, compared to 9% for Apple’s in-house operating system and just over 6% for Google’s, according to market research firm IDC(但通过与联想、戴尔和惠普等第三方制造商的许可协议,微软在更广泛的个人电脑市场上拥有更强的控制力。根据市场研究公司国际数据公司(IDC)的数据,所有台式电脑、笔记本电脑和工作站中约82%运行Windows系统,相比之下,苹果的内部操作系统占9%,谷歌的略高于6%)”以及最后一段“Dell Technologies was the first to fix a Copilot key on its newest XPS laptops. Microsoft hasn’t yet said which other computer makers are installing (安装) the Copilot button beyond Microsoft’s own in-house line of premium (高端的) Surface devices(戴尔科技是首个在其最新款XPS笔记本电脑上配备Copilot键的公司。除了微软自家的高端Surface设备系列外,微软尚未透露还有哪些其他计算机制造商正在安装这个“Copilot”按钮)”可知,文章开篇提到一些运行微软Windows 11操作系统的新个人电脑将有一个特殊的Copilot键来启动人工智能聊天机器人,接着讲述了这是微软的一个重要举措,以及和其他公司定制键的对比,还提到了微软在个人电脑市场的情况等,主要围绕微软新的人工智能键及其对键盘的重大改变展开。所以A项“Microsoft’s New AI Key Is a Big Change to Keyboards(微软的新人工智能键是对键盘的重大改变)”表达的含义符合文章主旨,适合用作本文标题,故选A项。 D There could be a new competitor for the heaviest animal that ever lived. This means the newly discovered whale was possibly the heaviest animal ever, study author Alberto Collareta said, but it was most likely not the longest animal ever. B 13. D 14. D 15. 根据文章第一段“There could be a new competitor for the heaviest animal that ever lived. While today’s blue whale has long held the title, scientists have dug up fossils from an ancient animal that could tip the scales.(有史以来最重的动物可能有新的竞争者了。虽然今天的蓝鲸长期以来一直占据着这一称号,但科学家们挖掘出了一种古老动物的化石,这种动物可能会tip the scales。)”可知,蓝鲸长期以来一直是有史以来最重的动物,但新发现的化石可能“tip the scales”,即打破这一局面,使竞争态势发生变化。因此“tip the scales”在此意为“改变局面”。故选B项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“The results: 13 vertebrae from the whale’s backbone, four ribs and a hip bone.(结果:13块来自鲸鱼脊椎的椎骨,4根肋骨和1块髋骨。)” 根据文章第四段“Those super-dense bones suggest that the whale may have spent its time in shallow, coastal waters, the authors said. Other coastal residents, like manatees, have heavy bones to help them stay close to the seafloor.(作者说,这些超致密的骨头表明,这种鲸鱼可能生活在浅水沿海地区。其他沿海居民,如海牛,也有沉重的骨头来帮助它们靠近海底。)”可知,原文提到其高密度骨骼类似海牛,且推测它生活在浅海沿岸,与海牛栖息地一致。故选D项。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“‘But I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing actually fed in a totally different way that we would never imagine,’ paleontologist Hans Thewissen said.(“但如果这东西实际上以一种我们永远无法想象的完全不同的方式进食,我也不会感到惊讶,”古生物学家汉斯·特维森说。)” Many people have such a friend — one who understands and empathizes with them; one who always knows what to say when they are upset; one who they feel comfortable unburdening themselves to. Chances are that the friend has a high emotional quotient (EQ). So what is an EQ? ____16____ EQ is also called “emotional intelligence”, which has both interpersonal and intrapersonal aspects. On the interpersonal side, emotionally intelligent people can identify others’ feelings. ____17____ On an intrapersonal level, they can understand their own strengths and weaknesses. They don’t let themselves be discouraged by mistakes, but they take responsibility for them. There are many benefits emotionally intelligent people can enjoy. ____18____ This not only helps with making friends and building business relationships, but also helps with building more meaningful relationships that could last for life. Additionally, those with high EQs are better at adapting to life’s chances and can handle stressful situations with more grace. ____19____ First, an analysis of studies demonstrates that creative and self-confident innovators may be more individualistic and therefore have a lower EQ. On the other hand, it’s possible to improve emotional intelligence. Reflect on your reactions during challenging moments and adopt constructive suggestions without becoming upset at criticism. In conclusion, emotional intelligence is a valuable skill that can enhance every aspect of life. By developing one’s ability to understand and manage emotions, a person can face challenges flexibly. ____20____ You will likely see great improvements in yourself. A. Also they understand the source of those feelings. B. One is that they can make good connections with others. C. You should learn to react to your strong feelings correctly. D. This prevents emotional decisions in the heat of the moment. E. However, if you are not emotionally intelligent, there’s some good news. F. It is a measure of one’s ability to perceive, respond to, and regulate emotions. G. So, actively develop and apply emotional intelligence to fully benefit from it. F 17. A 18. B 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 前文“Chances are that the friend has a high emotional quotient (EQ). So what is an EQ? (很有可能这个朋友的情商很高。那么什么是情商呢)”提到情商的概念,提问其定义,此处需要补充情商的准确定义,因此F项“It is a measure of one’s ability to perceive, respond to, and regulate emotions. (它是衡量一个人感知、应对和调节情绪能力的标准)”符合语境,解释了情商的含义,承接前文,选项中的It指代前文的EQ。故选F。 【17题详解】 前文“On the interpersonal side, emotionally intelligent people can identify others’ feelings. (在人际关系方面,高情商的人能够识别他人的感受)”提到高情商的人能识别他人的情绪,后文“On an intrapersonal level, they can understand their own strengths and weaknesses. (在个人层面上,他们可以了解自己的长处和短处)”转到个人层面高情商的表现,此处应继续人际关系方面,说明他们如何理解这些情绪,因此A项“Also they understand the source of those feelings. (他们还能理解这些情绪的根源)”符合语境,补充了识别情绪后的进一步能力,承接前文,选项中的they指代前文的emotionally intelligent people。故选A。 【18题详解】 前文“There are many benefits emotionally intelligent people can enjoy. (这不仅有助于交朋友和建立商业关系,还有助于建立更有意义的、可以持续一生的关系)”详细说明拥有高情商的人在人际关系上的好处,此处应列举一个人际关系有关的优势,因此B项“One is that they can make good connections with others. (其中之一是他们能更好地与他人建立联系)”符合语境,承前启后。故选B。 【19题详解】 前一段主要讨论高情商的好处,后文“First, an analysis of studies demonstrates that creative and self-confident innovators may be more individualistic and therefore have a lower EQ. On the other hand, it’s possible to improve emotional intelligence. (首先,一项研究分析表明,有创造力和自信的创新者可能更个人主义,因此情商较低。另一方面,提高情商是可能的)”表明情商低的人有其他优势,且情商可以改善,此处应转折,说明情商不高也不全是坏事,因此E项“However, if you are not emotionally intelligent, there’s some good news. (然而,如果你情商不高,也有好消息)”符合语境,和前一段构成转折,引出后文。故选E。 【20题详解】 前文“In conclusion, emotional intelligence is a valuable skill that can enhance every aspect of life. By developing one’s ability to understand and manage emotions, a person can face challenges flexibly. (总之,情商是一项宝贵的技能,可以提升生活的方方面面。通过发展一个人理解和管理情绪的能力,一个人可以灵活地面对挑战)”总结情商的价值,此处应鼓励读者积极应用情商,因此G项“So, actively develop and apply emotional intelligence to fully benefit from it. (因此,积极培养并运用情商,以充分受益)”符合语境,作为总结,呼吁行动,承接前文。故选G。 第三部分 语言知识运用 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 As a child, I didn’t have a bike, and lost interest in biking. The once pleasant ride turned into a battle against the bad weather. Para 1: Ethan’s held the motorbike handles more tightly. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Para 2: Ethan’s heart sank as he looked at the damaged motorbike. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Ethan’s held the motorbike handles more tightly. The whole body was thrown to the ground, the clothes were stained with mud, and the originally smooth skin was also scratched by the gravel. It was so late that he was unable to drag the motorbike back, so he had to park it on the side of the road and walk back. With great effort, he came to the place where they had set up the tent. The storm seemed to be gradually weakening and the wind was becoming cold. Lucas came out in time to see Ethan staggering towards him. He immediately held out his hand and helped Ethan stand up. Ethan’s heart sank as he looked at the damaged motorbike. He was so sorry to see Lucas’s dream broken. He looked at Lucas’s disappointed face and then dropped his head in shame. He tried his best to comfort Lucas, “Let’s go to fix it.” Lucas suddenly smiled, “Don’t worry, the bike can be fixed, but you’d better fix yourself first.” Ethan was surprised, “I’m sorry I thought this would ruin your birthday.” Lucas looked at Ethan and said, “The bike is like a bridge between us, but our brotherhood is the bridge we should go across, so I think this is the best birthday present.” Ethan hugged Lucas, and the two smiled at each other. 词汇激活 行为类 ①伸出:hold out/reach out ②低下头:drop his head/lower his head ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①失望的:disappointed/despondent ②羞愧地:in shame/shamefacedly 【点睛】【高分句型1】 It was so late that he was unable to drag the motorbike back, so he had to park it on the side of the road and walk back.
