On March 27, 2025, China introduced new food label (标签) rules to help people choose healthier and safer food. The government stopped companies from using confusing (令人混乱的) words like “no added sugar” because these labels often trick buyers. For example, juice with “no added sugar” might still have natural sugar from fruit, making people think it has no sugar at all.
The new rules say food labels must:
Show nutrition (营养) facts clearly, including sugar amount.
Write common allergy (过敏) foods (like nuts, eggs, milk) clearly.
Use QR codes (二维码) to give more information.
Print “use by” dates directly (like “Use by March 30, 2026”) instead of making people calculate, and this can help reduce waste.
Food companies have two years to change their packages and sell old ones. Experts say these rules will:
● Help buyers make better choices
● Make companies focus on real food quality

In the Taishan Mountain, Shandong, a robotic dog was tested. Its main job was to carry heavy things, such as waste, acting as a “porter” (脚夫) on the mountain and reducing the need for human workers.
Every year, there are millions of visitors in Taishan Mountain. These tourists produced nearly 24,000 tons of waste every year. The terrain (地形) in the Taishan Mountain made it harder to clean and transport the waste as large machines couldn’t be used and the waste had to be collected by hand.
To solve this problem, the scenic area tested robotic dogs for waste collection. The tested robotic dogs were some of the fastest and most advanced industrial-grade quadruped (四足的) robots on the market. They could cross obstacles (障碍) easily, keep good balance, and carry heavy things for a long time.
Tests were carried out over three days at the base, middle and top of the mountain. The robotic dogs, equipped with a shelf and cargo (货物) box that could carry 30 to 40 kilograms, were tested for climbing ability and load-bearing capacity (容量) on the challenging terrain.
Results showed that they could reach the top of the mountain from the base within two hours, while the average time for adult tourists not carrying a heavy load was around four hours. The robots could operate for four to six hours on a full charge (充电量). During the tests, the robotic dogs fit over 80 percent of the mountain’s terrain (地形).
Many tourists were attracted by these robotic dogs. Wang Yang, a tourist from Heilongjiang Province, said, “I saw it climbing and took a photo with it. It’s truly amazing”

The Dragon-Head-Raising Festival
The Dragon-Head-Raising Festival, called “Longtaitou” in Chinese, happens on the second day of the second month in China’s traditional calendar. This year, it was on March 1. It marks the beginning of spring and farming season.
Long ago, people believed that after this day, there would be more rain because the Dragon King, who brings rain, woke up from his winter rest. A popular saying is, “On the second day of the second month, the dragon lifts his head.”
Some old customs are still followed today. One famous tradition is getting a haircut. People think cutting hair on this day removes bad luck. Others say cutting hair in the first month of the year brings bad luck. There’s even an old story: “If you cut your hair in the first month, your uncle might die.” Though few believe this now, many still wait until Longtaitou to visit barbershops after avoiding haircuts for a month.
Food is also important. In Fujian province, people eat tofu and vegetable balls for good luck. In Shandong, fried beans are popular. In Suzhou, people eat “chengyao” cakes made with sticky rice, believing it stops back pain all year.
Many foods are named after dragon parts to celebrate the day:

Spring rolls = dragon’s scales (龙鳞)
