A
Tonight our family was going out to play under the full moon.
We first started going on full moon walks for ourselves, because my husband Todd and I loved them and we needed these little doses of moonlight to stay happy and to function (起作用) in society. But after we became parents,we did this for our children. We wanted Sierra and Bryce to see that there is much magic in the natural world and that most of it is accessible (可达到的) to anyone. We also wanted to show them that it was not necessary to travel far from home to have an adventure, learn, and experience something new. Nearly every month, our family went into the night to “play” by the full moon.
Once we arrived at our location that evening, Sierra and I stood holding hands, waiting to cheer the full moon in its rising. A thin sliver of the apricot (杏黄色) moon poked (探出) above the shape of the Blue Mountain Ridge. Everyone stood up and watched its rising. More of the moon came out until it turned into a brilliant orange sphere. Todd explained to Sierra and Bryce that the moon makes no light of its own, but simply acts like a mirror, reflecting (反射) the sunlight back to us long after the sun has sunk below the horizon (地平线).
“Does the moon’s face change?” Bryce asked. I told him that the moon rotates with the earth, but it does not spin on its axis (轴) like the earth does. The same side of the moon is always facing the earth. We never see the other side, the far side of the moon. Sierra said that the moon looked larger and closer when it was rising. I explained that it is an optical illusion (视错觉) because it is so close to the horizon that the moon tricks our eyes into comparing it with nearby objects to create the impression of increased size.
Much of the knowledge that Todd and I shared with the kids had been learned from our past life experiences. If we did not have the knowledge to explain and educate, we looked it up,either beforehand (提前) to improve the experience or afterwards together, after we wondered and came up with a list of questions.
Opportunities (机会) to explore magical experiences and learning are right in your neighbourhood. Sometimes all it takes is going outdoors and looking up at the heavens.
26.How often does the writer go to play under the full moon with his family?
A.Once a year. B.Once a month.
C.Once a week. D.Every day.
27.What does the underlined word “rotates” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A.Circles. B.Floats. C.Rises. D.Drops.
28.The moon looks larger and closer when rising because ________.
A.the distance from the earth is becoming shorter B.the other side of it never faces the earth
C.it does not spin on its axis like the earth does D.comparing it with nearby objects creates an illusion
29.Which of the following opinions may the writer support?
A.Never travel far from home to have an adventure.
B.Travel far from home to have an adventure more often.
C.Good learning opportunities are just around the corner.
D.There is much more magic in books and most of it is accessible to anyone.

Gu Fangzhou, a Chinese scientist, played an important role in getting rid of polio (脊髓灰质炎) in China. He is also known as “Grandpa of the Sugar Cube” (糖丸爷爷) because he developed a polio vaccine (疫苗) that can be eaten like sugar.
In 1955, polio caused much trouble to children in China. As a young doctor, in 1957, Gu began researching polio with his team, and after successful animal tests, Gu even drank a small bottle of the vaccine to show that it was safe. However, there was still the challenge of making sure of the vaccine’s safety for children under seven years old. To show the vaccine’s safety, Gu gave his own son, under a year old, the vaccine. Other researchers at the lab followed him, and their children also took part in the test. After a month-long wait, the children showed no bad effects. They succeeded!
In 1960, five million doses (剂) of the vaccine were produced and given out across China, successfully reducing polio.
Gu’s invention of the sugar-coated vaccine allowed for easier transportation and taking, making it more helpful to children. He said, “I have only done one thing in my life—I made a tiny sugar cube.”
30.Why is Gu Fangzhou called “Grandpa of the Sugar Cube”?

①Have you ever wanted to squeeze (捏) a soft little cat or pretend to bite a baby’s foot? Why does this happen? Scientists are trying to figure it out.
②When something is so cute, people might have strong wishes like pressing, squeezing or biting them. This strange mix of feelings is called “cute aggression (侵略)”. It’s like your brain gets too full of joy and tries to balance it with playful aggression.
③Scientists believe this behavior is a way for our brains to manage strong emotions. When we see something cute, our reward system activates (奖赏系统激活), making us feel happy and want to care for it. But sometimes this happiness is too strong, so our brain uses “aggression” as a way to calm down—like a safety valve (安全阀).
④To better understand what is happening in our brain, in a study, researchers used EEG to monitor the brain activity of college students when they watch cute and less cute pictures.
⑤They also completed questionnaires including describing how strong they want to squeeze the cute animals.
⑥They found that people who had stronger wishes to squeeze cute animals had more activity in the parts of the brain that have to do with both emotion and reward. This suggests that cute aggression is a natural response linked to how our brains process strong positive feelings.
⑦Actually, most people experience cute aggression, and it doesn’t mean they want to hurt anything. In fact, it might help us control our emotions better so we can care for cute babies or animals. However, if these wishes turn into real harm to animals or people, that’s not normal and should be dealt with.
⑧So my dear students, next time you feel like “Nom, nom, nom” at a puppy’s face, remember: it’s just your brain’s way of keeping your emotions in balance.
34.Which of the following is TRUE when a person with EEG on watches the pictures of the dogs?
A.Least brain activity will be tested when the person watches pictures.
B.The person will squeeze the fewest bubbles when watching pictures.
C.EEG is used as a safety valve to stop the person from squeezing bubbles.
D.How many bubbles squeezed can’t reflect the strongness of “aggression”.
35.How does the writer like “cute aggression”?
A.It is strange. B.It is cruel. C.It is common. D.It is cute.
36.Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.
37.What is the best title for this passage?
A.The Science Behind Cute Aggression B.The Most Wonderful Science Discovery
C.A Way to Show Our Mixed Feelings D.The Importance of Balanced Emotions

It looks like a clay (黏土) toy, but can be used as a whistle (哨子). This is Taiping nijiaojiao, a traditional toy from Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. It has a h 46 of over 1,000 years.

The key step is to knead the mud with your fingers. You can knead it into anything you like, from animals to plants. They usually carry good meanings. For example, tigers are a symbol of power and good luck. The blowhole is the most difficult part to make because the size of the blowhole (喷水孔) makes a d 48 to the sound.
About 20 years ago, Zhou Baokang, first found taipingnijiaojiao in Huashan village. As a lover of folk traditional art, he showed a great interest in it. He later learned how to make them from l 49 artists. Zhou wants more people to know about the toy. So he has opened a museum to i 50 the clay toy. He also teaches kids at schools how to make the clay toy.
There are many traditional art forms in China, but some of them have been lost. Luckily, the traditional clay toy taipingnijiaojiao is kept to today.
46. (h)istory 47.(t)akes 48.(d)ifference 49.(l)ocal 50.(i)ntroduce
根据“of over 1,000 years”和首字母提示可知,此句描述的是这项传统技艺的历史,history“历史”,have a history of“有……的历史”。故填(h)istory。
根据“It… more than 10 steps to make”和首字母提示可知,It takes sb. some time to do sth.“做某事花费某人一段时间”,固定句型,此处指耗费十多个步骤;时态为一般现在时,it作主语,谓语动词应用三单形式,所以takes“花费,需要”符合语境。故填(t)akes。
根据“because the size of the blowhole makes a… to the sound”和首字母提示可知,此处是make a difference to“对……有影响”,固定短语。故填(d)ifference。
49.句意:后来,他从当地艺术家那里学会了如何制作它们。根据“He later learned how to make them from… artists.”
根据“Zhou wants more people to know about the toy. So he has opened a museum to… the clay toy.” 故填(i)ntroduce。
The award ceremony of the science competition in the school hall, and many parents attended it.
【答案】 was held
【详解】根据“The award ceremony of the science competition...in the school hall,”可知,时态为一般过去时,所以应用一般过去时的被动语态,主语The award ceremony of the science competition与动词之间是被动关系,用was held“被举办”。故填was;held。
Auggie’s team’s experiment design was! The judges gave it full marks.
How wonderful
【详解】“多么精彩”常见英文表达为How wonderful ,这里是由How引导的感叹句,结构为How+形容词(wonderful)+主语(Auggie’s team’s experiment design)+谓语(was),用于强调实验设计的精彩程度。故填How;wonderful。
The head master announced that this team cooperation had broken the school record. Many people wanted to know .
【答案】 how they did it
宾语从句中要用陈述句语序,故填how;they;did;it。
Auggie was he almost forgot to thank his teammates.
【答案】 so excited that
故填so;excited;that。
, the group photo beside the trophy his most treasured memory.
Since then has become
故填Since;then;has;become。

A.Because he liked eating sugar cubes.
B.Because he developed a sugar-like polio vaccine.
C.Because he sold sugar cubes to help kids.
D.Because he made sugar cubes for kids.
31.What did Gu do to show the vaccine was safe for children under seven?
A.He tested it on many animals. B.He drank the vaccine himself.
C.He gave the vaccine to his own son. D.He asked other doctors’ children to take it.
32.What does the underlined word “They” refer to?
A.the children with polio in China B.the researchers’ children
C.Gu and his team D.the polio vaccine
33.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.The history of polio in China. B.The development of a polio vaccine.
C.Gu Fangzhou’s love for his son. D.The importance of scientific research.

A.Because he liked eating sugar cubes.
B.Because he developed a sugar-like polio vaccine.
C.Because he sold sugar cubes to help kids.
D.Because he made sugar cubes for kids.
31.What did Gu do to show the vaccine was safe for children under seven?
A.He tested it on many animals. B.He drank the vaccine himself.
