“Twenty-five dollars!” said Mrs March. “My dear, where did you get it?”
Jo took off her hat.
“Your hair, your beautiful hair!” cried Amy.
All Jo’s lovely, thick, long hair was cut short.

“Are you crying about Father, Jo?” she asked.
“No, not now. It’s my hair,” cried Jo. “I’d do it again, if I could. But I did love my hair, and the selfish bit of me is making me cry. Don’t tell anyone. I’ll be all right in the morning.”
During the days after their mother and Mr Brooke went away, Meg and Jo went back to their jobs, and Beth and Amy helped Hannah to keep the house tidy. Everyone tried very hard to be good and hard-working and helpful.

The Lantern Maker’s Learner
On her 14th birthday, Lin received a heavy box. Inside were bamboo strips (竹片) and silk from her grandfather, a master lantern maker. “Our family art has lasted since 1825,” he said, touching her shoulder gently. “Now it’s your turn to carry on the tradition.”
Lin looked at the materials and felt a mix of excitement and worry. The first week of learning was difficult. Bamboo splinters (竹剌) hurt her fingers as she tried to shape the strips. “Why must I learn this old work?” she cried angrily. Her grandfather didn’t say anything. Instead, he silently lit an old lantern. Its painted rabbit was gathering plants under the moon, just like in the Dunhuang wall paintings. The soft light of the lantern seemed to tell a story of the past.
At the Mid-Autumn Festival, Lin walked through the streets and found children not looking at traditional lanterns. They were more interested in the bright, colorful toys. An idea came to her. She decided to mix the old with the new. Lin cleverly added LED lights, creating dark shapes that moved with the wind. She also programmed the lantern so that touching the rabbit’s foot would start reading a Tang poem. Lin’s “Smart Rabbit Lantern” was a hit. Children gathered around, amazed by the dark shapes and the sound of the ancient poem. At the end of the festival, Lin’s lantern won the first prize. Her grandfather smiled proudly and said, “Tradition is like the moon–it shines brightest when reflecting new light. By adding modern parts, you’ve given our art a new life.”
Lin felt a sense of success. She realized that traditions could be kept and refreshed at the same time. She had found a way to keep the past alive.

①Lin’ s “Smart Rabbit Lantern” won the first prize at the Mid-Autumn Festival.
②Lin added LED lights and programmed the lantern to read a Tang poem.

④Lin felt excited but worried about learning the family art.
A.③-④-②-① B.③-②-①-④ C.④-②-①-③ D.④-③-②-①
35.How did Lin show creativity in the story?
A.She learned lantern making for only a week.
B.She used bamboo and silk from her grandfather.

A tornado is a tower of spinning air. Tornadoes can be very dangerous. The cause of tornadoes is not fully known. They form during thunderstorms. Inside the stormy clouds, warm air rises and cool air falls. The warm and cool air can begin to spin. This spinning air can push out of the storm clouds as a funnel. When the funnel of spinning air touches the ground, it becomes a tornado.
There are three levels of tornadoes. Weak tornadoes have wind speeds that are below 160km/h. They last for less than ten minutes. They cause small damage like fallen tree branches. Strong tornadoes have wind speeds that are between 177km/h and 330km/h and can last about twenty minutes. These tornadoes can cause quite a bit of damage and can push cars and trains over. The most dangerous tornadoes are called violent tornadoes. They can last for longer than an hour and have wind speeds that are higher than 330km/h. These deadly tornadoes can lift houses and cars into the air.
Tornadoes and cyclones are very different. Tornadoes form on land and cyclones form on the ocean. Tornadoes can be a few kilometres wide. The biggest cyclones can be hundreds of kilometres across.
Some people set up a safe room in a basement. They get a radio, water, sleeping bags and extra food. They also keep their house and garden clean by getting rid of dead trees or weak fences. If a tornado alert is given, get your saferoom ready. Do not go outside or near windows. Hide under a large bed or table. Get out of your trailer or car. If you are outside, find flat ground. Lie down and protect your neck and head with your arms. Once the tornado is over, turn on the radio. Avoid any damaged areas and do not go near any fallen power lines.
37.What can we learn about tornadoes?

D.Tornadoes can take houses and cars into the air sometimes.

My Tomb-Sweeping Day
April 4th was Tomb-sweeping Day this year. On that day, my family went to Sanshan Cemetery to sweep tombs. We took a bus to get there.
After we arrived there, we cleaned up the tombs carefully and bought flowers for the late family members. Then we went for a spring walk in the countryside. We enjoyed the fresh air and the nice view. We also enjoyed the traditional food qingtuan. It was delicious but not very sweet. I saw two rabbits on the grass. They were so cute! We spent all day in the countryside. I loved the fresh air and welcomed the beautiful spring. I also remembered my late family members deeply.
I think this traditional festival is very meaningful.

A.She learned lantern making for only a week.
