W: Do you enjoy watching comedies? Then why not come and see what's happening at Comedy Hour? Comedy Hour owns
comedy clubs in several countries that are run just for people aged 13-2o. The Comedy Hour company was set up by
John Winterson. In fact, his act quickly became so popular that he soon found lots of other comedians who wanted to
join his company.
If you're having a party at home, Comedy Hour can come and perform for you there at the party. Your very own
comedian will also help you to tell your guests some jokes and silly stories and they can join in, too, if they want. It'l
be fun and very different from any party you've ever had before.
Here at Comedy Hour, it's not just about the adults telling jokes. We also offer young people the chance to perform
But we've yet to find someone who can do that without preparation, so we've set up the world's first Comedy Classes to
teach young people how to tell jokes on stage.
So what are you waiting for? Come and join Comedy Hour.

might solve the issue. I took it to a jeweler to ensure it was genuine and comparable, and then arranged a meeting with
Mrs, Miller, When I presented the replacement ring to her, she examined it carefully. Her eyes softened as she looked up at
me. “It's a beautiful ring," she said. "But what really matters to me is your honesty and the effort you put into making
things right. Thank you for going above and beyond."
Mrs, Miller's words of fered com fort to my troubled mind. I had feared that no replacement could ever truly make up

The Zozobra Festival is a unique cultural event in Santa Fe staged annually by the Kiwanis Club of
Santa Fe in Zozobra Field at Fort Marcy Park on the Friday of Labor Day weekend as an exciting finale
to the last days of summer.
The history of Zozobra
Artist William Howard "Will"Shuster Jr.created the first Zozobra in 1924 as the signature highlight
of a private party for Los Cinco Pintores,a group of artists and writers who made their way to New
Mexico in the 1920s.Shuster drew inspiration from Mexico's Yaqui Indians and their traditions, where
an effigy()is led around the village on a donkey()and then set alight. The painter named his
6-foot-tall effigy Zozobra,a Spanish word meaning“pain”or“anxiety'”,
Celebrating a century-old tradition
"Zozobra is a tradition here,"says New Mexico History Museum Curator Hannah Abelbeck.
"Zozobra wouldn't exist unless Santa Fe cared about it and invested in it."To celebrate the festival's
birthday,Abelbeck's museum,located in downtown Santa Fe,has opened a new,two-year-long
exhibition(that explores Zozobra's history and cultural influences.
Putting fears into the fire
As always in the weeks before Zozobra's burning, people dutifully write down their fears and
anxieties on pieces of paper and drop them into boxes. These are collected and their contents filled
inside the effigy, adding additional fuel for the fire.A crowd of 75,000 people is expected to come to
Fort Marey,a local park that's a five-minute drive from Santa Fe's Central Plaza,to see the impressive
view.As night falls, the dancing Fire Spirit appears and then lights the effigy in the hope of putting
people's fears into the fire.

In the past two years, tennis has made its way into homes in an unexpected way.Belgian eco-designer
Mathilde Wittock is turning wasted tennis balls into custom-made furniture().She creates modern
chairs and benches, using tennis balls as cushions().A chair might contain 500 balls, while her
benches use around 270,combining style with comfort.
"It takes around 24 different manufacturing steps to make a tennis ball, which is around five days.
Then it has such a short life,"said Wittock."I was looking into tennis balls because I played tennis
myself,so I know there is a lot of waste.
Around 300 million tennis balls are produced every year, and nearly all end up in landfills.where
they take more than 400 years to decompose.Major events like the US Open use around 70,000 balls
each year, with Wimbledon using about 55,000.The lifecycle of a ball stands at just nine games,
depending on the level of tennis being played.
Wittock started to see the design possibilities of the sporting equipment when she was studying at Central
Saint Martins art school in London."Iwas really interested in eco-design and where I sourced my material."
she said."And I realized that it was always very difficult to follow the history of materials. You never
know where they come from,or how they've been processed.I got really angry at that."
To create her furniture,Wittock cuts each tennis ball by hand, choosing colors to match her
customers'homes. It takes her about three to four weeks to make one chair. For Wittock, the key to
eco-design is circularity-ensuring that materials can be reused or recycled. When her furniture reaches
the end of its life, the tennis balls are carefully taken apart, and the rubber()recycled into
playground mats.
24.What is special about the furniture created by Wittock?
A.It is made of tennis balls.
B.It has a traditional style.
C.It fits all people's homes.
D.It is reasonably priced.
25.How many tennis balls are used at Wimbledon each year?
A.About 400.
B.About 500.

A.She can know where they are produced.
B.They are cheap at the market.
C.She can process them in a local factory.
D.They come from the same place.
27.What can we know about Wittock's furniture?
A.It is designed by athletes.

Florence,a historic city in Italy known for its Renaissance art and architecture,is taking action to
cut overtourism. The city has introduced new measures, including banning()key boxes used by
short-term rental landlords and restricting the use of loudspeakers by tour guides. These steps come
after complaints()from the locals, who are struggling with the growing number of tourists.
Florence, located in Tuscany, has long been a popular destination for travelers. However,in
recent years, the number of visitors has sharply increased, putting pressure on the city's housing
market and its residents. Many people have been forced out due to rising living costs.
To address these issues, the city's government has approved()a 10-point plan to reduce the
impact of tourism. One of the key actions is to ban key boxes-combination-protected lockboxes used
by landlords for easy check-ins.These were used in the city's UNESCO-listed historic center, home to
famous works by artists such as Botticelli,Michelangelo and Giotto.
The plan also targets the use of "atypical vehicles",like golf carts, which tour guides use to show
visitors around the city in areas where cars are not allowed. The use of loudspeakers by tour guides will
also be banned in these areas.
These changes are part of an effort to make Florence a living and unique city for both the locals and
tourists. The city council noted that there has been a sharp rise in the number of tourists, with more
than 7.8 million visitors in just the first nine months of 2024.
Florence is the latest of several destinations to introduce measures to cut mass tourism.Last week,
the archaeological site of Pompeii said it would be capping daily visitors at 20,000 and requiring personalized
tickets.
However,Italy's Tourism Minister Daniela Santanche suggested that overtourism in Italy is caused
by poor management, and instead of cutting mass tourism, the country should focus on improving the
experience for visitors.
28.What can we learn about Florence according to the text?
A.It stops the use of loudspeakers.
C.It has long been a draw for visitors.
B.It plans to lift the ban in two weeks.
29.Why does Florence introduce the new measures?
D.It turns a blind eye to the complaints.
A.To build a livable city.
C.To attract more tourists.
B.To cut the cost of the trade.
D.To better control air traffic.
30.What does the underlined word "capping"in paragraph 6 mean?
A.Increasing.
B.Inspiring.
C.Watching.
D.Limiting.
31.What did Santanche want to say about overtourism in Italy?
A.It lies in the rapid growth of a city.
B.It is a product of mismanagement.
C.It can be solved by the new efforts.
D.It is caused by ill-mannered visitors.

at Mississauga,randomly()put the students into three groups. One group took weekly lessons
with instruments, such as violin and piano. The second group took singing lessons. The third group
went to drama class.
All the participants(took IQ tests at the beginning and at the end of the first grade.Overall.
average soores went up for all groups. But kids who took piano or violin lessons scored higher marks.Their IQ
scores went up 7.0 points on average, compared with 4.3 points for kids in the other two groups.
The difference may seem small, and the music students probably won't end up getting higher
grades or having greater success later in life.Even so,the researchers believe the results are still
meaningful.Playing a musical instrument requires kids to pay more attention and memorize things. The
process of reading music and mastering finger placement is connected with fine motor skills and even
better hand-eye coordination().These types of experiences may have positive effects on the developing
brains of young people.
So,why not pick up an instrument like a guitar or violin? It's a great way to improve yourself and
bring more music into the world. After all,who wouldn't want to make the world sound better?

Walking has been recognized as a great form of exercise that's easy and accessible for many people, and
scores of studies show the popular activity has numerous health benefits, too. However,a daily walk won't
result in a healthy body, according to Melissa Boyd,a certified personal trainer and coach.36
Move in different ways
Walking is great, but it's just one, unidirectional form of movement, and our bodies need more to
be functionally fit.People use the muscles (in their bodies to help with all the bending and
turning they do in their daily lives.37."Stretching(is quite easy, and something you can do
when you wake up and before you go to bed,"Boyd said.
Time for an exercise snack
You'd better create a plan that different movements, such as walking and stretching, are timed
throughout a week.38.However,breaking down all these different movements into exercise
snacks is one way to practice the movement your body needs,
"Maybe every time you get water, you do 10 push-ups against a wall. You can add these exercise
snacks to something else you're already doing.39.I've seen huge success with this,Boyd said.
40
It's helpful to keep in mind that creating an exercise plan doesn't require an immediate, massive
change in your lifestyle. In fact,it's better to start slowly with easy movement."What I usually see is
that people love the way which makes them feel relaxed,"Boyd said."Then the stronger they become,
the more they want to move even more.Movement inspires movement."
A.Start slowly and build from there
B.Work out your monthly exercise plan
C.That might seem impossible for many
D.You will make it more of a habit over time
E.So they need to stretch muscles in different directions
F.It is fun enough to keep track of your training progress
G.She suggests developing the following habits for overall fitness

I never thought a simple mistake could lead to such a complex journey.I work as a jewelry appraiser
(珠宝鉴定师)in a reputable company..One morning,my boss,M,Carter,asked me to appraise a collection
of family jewelry for a local client,Mrs.Miller.
The box was filled with jewelry, each piece more valuable than the last.As I carefully examined a
shining diamond ring,I accidentally dropped it from the table, and it disappeared under the desks.
新
Frightened,I searched madly under the desks and around the room.I knew how important this
ring was;it had been passed down through generations. After hours of searching,I failed to find it.
长
Over the next few days,I searched every inch of the office, but the ring remained missing. The
situation grew more stressful with each passing day.
With no other choice,I decided to talk to Mr.Carter about the whole situation."Losing such a
召
valuable item is serious, but we'll solve this together. We need to tell Mrs.Miller about it and consider
all possible ways to pay compensation(赔偿),”said Mr.Carter..
都
That afternoon,Mr.Carter and I met with Mrs.Miller.I could barely meet her eyes as Mr.Carter
explained the situation. To my surprise,Mrs.Miller was calmer than I expected,"It's painful to lose
something so valuable, but I appreciate your honesty.I trust you will do everything in your power to

comparable replacement or a suitable solution.

arranged to view the ring immediately.
