①Right now, there are 1,032 people around the world looking at a screen to help some fish. They are watching an underwater camera (摄像机) in a river in Utrecht, a city in the Netherlands. There is a gate in the river, but it only opens when boats come. In early spring, many fish want to swim through the city to reproduce (繁殖). But because there are no boats, the gate stays closed. That’s a big problem for the fish. They wait and wait, but the water doesn’t move.
②Three years ago, two researchers, Anne and Mark, saw many fish waiting near the gate. They also saw some birds looking for food, so the fish were in danger. Anne and Mark worried that some of them could be eaten and they wanted to help.
③Mark came up with the idea of the Fish Doorbell. People can observe the fish with the underwater camera on the Internet. When they see many fish waiting, they can press a button (按下按钮). Then, a worker near the gate gets the message and opens the gate. This way, the fish can swim on and stay safe. The gate doesn’t open too early or too late. It opens at the best time.
④Many people like this new idea. Over 9 million people have visited the website, and more than 40,000 people have pressed the doorbell. They think it’s so useful and easy that even kids can do it.
⑤One more good thing about the Fish Doorbell is that with the camera, workers can learn about the fish. They can see the size of the fish, the time they come, and how they change each year, which helps people understand the fish and the river better.
⑥Anne says the Fish Doorbell is also good for people to learn. Many people don’t know that fish swim through cities or why they need help. But after watching the fish, they start to care more about them. That’s why this small idea has made a big change.
28. In Para.3, the underlined word “observe” may mean ________.
A. fixing something broken. B. using something actively.
C. recording something for later. D. watching something carefully.
29. What can we infer from the passage?

Get More Exercise
To improve students’ physical health, Chongqing Education Commission (教委) has introduced new requirements (要求) for daily exercise in middle schools. According to the latest policy (政策), all schools must provide at least 60 minutes of outdoor activities every school day, such as morning runs, group sports, and free exercise time.
As soon as the new policy comes out, all schools take action quickly. Some schools are planning inter-class tug-of-war games (拔河比赛), and others will build new cycling tracks. Now, quite a few schools in Chongqing are making creative exercise plans: For example, No.8 Middle School holds “fun basketball” competitions during breaks, while Yubei Experimental School organizes mountain hiking trips every Friday afternoon. It seems that most of the students are happy about the change of exercise at school. When the reporter interviewed a student from No.8 Middle School, he said, “________”, holding a basketball in his sweaty (流汗的) hand.
Why did this policy appear? Recent surveys (调查) show that 65% of students spent less than 30 minutes exercising daily before this policy. Why? Because students spent too much time on their learning in the classroom. They kept studying indoors instead of going out for exercise. It took them a long time to learn the knowledge from their books every day. What’s more, they had a lot of homework to finish every day. Even after school they chose to do their homework in the classroom or at home. They didn’t have enough time to exercise. However, doctors say that enough exercise not only builds stronger bodies but also helps students remember things better and reduces stress. “When students run or play team sports, their brains (大脑) get more oxygen (氧气), which helps them study better,” says Dr. Wang from Children’s Hospital.
As the new policy is carried out, middle school students can have more time to exercise and stay healthy. This will not only make them stronger but also help them study better.
37. Does the new policy ask schools to provide more exercise time for students?

An Invention (发明) for the Blind
For millions of blind people around the world, Braille (盲文) is an important way to read and write. Braille uses raised marks (符号) to stand for. But not everyone can get modern Braille tools. Electronic Braille readers (电子盲文阅读器) cost over $1,000, which many students can’t buy because they cost too much, especially in poor areas.
Yash, a student in Grade 8 at Durham Academy in North Carolina, visited a school for blind students in India and noticed that students were using large printed Braille books to read, which were really heavy. “None of them used light electronic readers—it was sad to see how not having enough money was stopping them from learning,” he said. Wanting to help, Yash made the decision to build an electronic Braille reader that anyone could have enough money to buy. He wanted to build it for less than $50.
After trying many times, Yash finally built a model, which used small turning parts to create little raised parts that felt like Braille marks. Yash tested it at the Blind Relief Association in New Delhi, India, and the students there could read Braille on it, and his model cost only $35. He reached the finals of the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge and also won the first place in the Technology Award category. He was named as one of the country’s best young scientists as well.
Building this tool helped Yash learn many new skills. For example, Yash had always been good with something like the screen and keyboard. However, he didn’t know much about the code (编码) running on the computer. He had to teach himself to write steps to tell a computer what to do. To learn more, Yash watched videos on YouTube and read on Reddit.
Looking back, Yash has advice for young inventors. “Start by working out problems that are small in your daily life,” he says. “You don’t need to make something perfect. Keep making your ideas better and better and keep asking people for advice. That’s how your ideas turn into solutions.”

【答案】范文:
Dear Li Ming,
I know how you feel. It’s common for teenagers to have such problems with their parents.
First, you should spend less time on computer games. Staying up late is bad for your health and study. Why not talk to your parents and tell them your feelings? They love you and might just worry about your future. Second, you can make a study plan together with them. This way, they’ll know you’re trying to do better, and you’ll have more control over your time. Also, playing sports or doing outdoor activities with family or friends can help you relax and reduce screen time.
Family problems are temporary—small changes can make a big difference. I’m here if you need to talk more.

②Three years ago two researchers, Anne and Mark, saw many fish waiting near the gate.

After trying many times Yash finally built a model, which used small turning parts to create little raised parts that felt like Braille marks.
