In the afternoon maths class, the teacher wrote a difficult problem on the blackboard. No one could solve it except the boy with the paper on his back. Ignoring (忽视) the laughter, he walked to the blackboard and solved the problem. The teacher asked the class to clap (鼓掌) for him, then removed the paper from his back. She said to him, “It seems you didn’t know about the paper, but you didn’t let it influence you.”
The teacher then turned to the class and said, “I want to tell you two things. First, in life, some people may label (给……贴标签) you to stop you from succeeding. The most important thing is to ignore these labels and keep learning, growing, and improving.”
She continued, “Second, none of you were true friends to this boy. No one was kind enough to tell him about the paper. You should hope to have good friends yourself. Otherwise, one day, you might have a paper on your back, and no one will tell you.”

Did you know that much of the world’s pollution comes from building materials (材料), like bricks (砖), used in our homes? According to the United Nations Environment Program, about 40% of human-made pollution comes from these materials. But what if nature could help us create bricks in a cleaner way?
Scientists are now exploring how to make bricks from mushrooms (蘑菇). For example, Professor Han Wosten and his team at Utrecht University in the Netherlands are developing mushroom bricks. They mix mushrooms with farming waste, such as hay (干草).
The mushrooms grow on the hay for about two weeks and can then be changed into different materials. “If we press it, we can get something like hardboard,” Wosten explained.
Mushroom bricks produce much less pollution compared to traditional materials. They are also eco-friendly, meaning they won’t pollute the land when thrown away. Additionally, mushroom materials have the ability to repair themselves. If a wall in your house is broken, you can regrow the mushrooms to fix it. NASA scientists are even considering using them to “grow” houses on the moon or Mars, reducing the need to transport heavy building materials into space.
However, more research is needed. “It’s too early to say your house will be all made of mushrooms,” said researcher Phil Ayres. Even so, progress is underway, and the future of mushroom materials appears promising.
42. According to the text, where does much of the world’s pollution come from?
A. Factories. B. Cars. C. Bricks. D. Trash.
43. Why are scientists interested in using mushrooms to make bricks?
A. Mushrooms are cheaper than traditional materials. B. Mushroom bricks can repair themselves.
C Mushrooms grow faster than other plants. D. Mushroom bricks are lighter than hay.
44. What does the underlined word “eco-friendly” mean?
A. Safe for the environment. B. Expensive to produce. C. Easy to break. D. Hard to find.
45. What is the best title for the passage?
A. New Ways to Cook Mushrooms B. How to Grow Mushrooms at Home
C. Reducing Pollution with Mushroom Bricks D. NASA’s Plans for Space Exploration
D
“Let’s brainstorm together!” You might often hear your teachers encouraging group discussions to solve problems. But is brainstorming really the best way to solve creative challenges?
The Dutch company WeTransfer did a study with 20,000 people from 197 countries and places. Most of them worked in creative fields, such as writing and music. The results showed that brainstorming is often not helpful for solving creative problems.
“While teamwork is important for bringing ideas to life, it isn’t very good for coming up with first ideas.” said Rob Alderson.
Alderson added that giving people enough time and space to think alone can lead to better ideas. Even Alex Osborn, who popularized brainstorming, believed that thinking alone was part of his creative process (过程).
However, most companies don’t provide their workers with enough chances to develop their ideas independently. Instead, they often hold too many meetings, which can get in the way of creativity, according to the study. More than 40% of participants (参与者) said meetings are a block to good thinking.
Spending time alone helps you come up with your own ideas and develop independent thinking, which is important for decision-making. Nearly 80% of the people in WeTransfer’s study said they trust their own feelings and research when judging ideas.
46. What did WeTransfer’s study find about brainstorming?
A. It’s the best way to solve problems. B. It’s often not helpful for creative problems.
C. It’s only useful for non-creative work. D. It’s important for first ideas.
47. Why is spending time alone good for creativity?
A. It avoids teamwork. B. It helps create first ideas.
C. It makes meetings better. D. It reduces need for research.
48. How might companies block creativity?
A. By forcing workers to think alone. B. By too much brainstorming.
C. By not having enough meetings. D. By not allowing independent idea time.
49. What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To tell stories behind brainstorming. B. To introduce an important survey.
C. To show the value of thinking alone. D. To describe teamwork in creativity.

C. Mushrooms grow faster than other plants. D. Mushroom bricks are lighter than hay.
44. What does the underlined word “eco-friendly” mean?
A. Safe for the environment. B. Expensive to produce. C. Easy to break. D. Hard to find.

【答案】46. B 47. B 48. D 49. C
