Reading and thinking Culture and Cuisine

教学目标
通过本课学习,学生能够
1. 通过文章标题和插图能对本文话题做出合理的预测;
2. 理解食物与地域文化,历史传统,当地人性格之间的关系,深入理解文章主题;
3. 分析文本信息中包含的因果关系和丰富文化内涵,在文本理解的基础上掌握阅读策略,提升阅读理解能力;
4. 了解博大精深的中国饮食文化,坚定文化自信。
教学重难点
1. 如何引导学生通过通过文章标题和插图能对本文话题做出合理的预测;
2. 如何引导理解食物与地域文化,历史传统,当地人性格之间的关系;
3. 如何帮助学生析文本信息中包含的因果关系和丰富文化内涵;
4. 如何在帮助学生培养阅读能力的同时引导他们了解博大精深的中国饮食文化,坚定文化自信。
教学过程
Step1. Lead-in
Show some pictures about the Eight Cuisines of China and play a short video. (to arouse students’ interests and introduce the topic of the text: Culture and Cuisine)
Step2. Pre-reading
Students make a prediction about what the text is about according to the title and two illustrations.(to cultivate students’ reading capacity of predicting)
Step3. While reading
Fast reading. Students read the text fast(skim) to analyze the structure. Students scan each paragraph to summarize the main idea.(to cultivate students’ reading capacity of getting the general structure and main idea)
Detailed reading. Students read the first paragraph to answer two questions:1.Why does the author quote Jean’s words at the beginning? 2. What does the quote“You are what you eat.”mean ?(to cultivate students’ reading capacity of getting the detailed information) Students read the second to sixth paragraph to answer two questions: 1.Where did the author go and what did he eat there? 2. Besides food, what else did the author experience in that place? (to cultivate students’ reading capacity of scanning to get the specific information) Students read the last paragraph to answer one question: 1.What does the food in each place tell us? (to cultivate students’ reading capacity of summarizing to get the specific information)
Step4. Post-reading
Teacher presents the question talked about at the beginning of the class(what can these cuisines tell us about their regions) and summarizes the cultural factors behind food to echo the theme: Food and culture go hand in hand.

Imagine the author is going to Handan, and try to introduce one of our famous cuisines to him.
