The Spring Equinox, called Chunfen in Chinese, is the fourth of China’s 24 solar terms. It arrives around March 20-22 each year. On this day, the sun shines directly over the equator (赤道), making daytime and nighttime nearly equal—12 hours each. The word “equinox” comes from Latin, meaning “equal night,” reflecting (反映,反射) this balance of light and darkness.
In ancient times, the Spring Equinox was a signal for farmers to begin planting crops like rice and vegetables, as warmer weather and rain helped seeds grow. Even today, it marks the start of farm work across China. Nature also comes alive: birds after their long trip return from the south, flowers like peach, plum, and rape flower (油菜花) are right to bloom, and thunderstorms become more frequent (频繁的).
People celebrate the equinox with fun traditions. One popular activity is the egg-standing game. Families try to balance raw eggs (生鸡蛋) upright, believing the Earth’s position on this day makes it easier. Another custom is eating spring vegetables, such as wild greens, and sticky rice balls (tangyuan), symbolizing health and family unity. Flying kites is also widespread, with colorful designs soaring (高飞) in the sky to welcome spring.
The Spring Equinox teaches us about balance—not just in nature, but in life. As days grow warmer, it’s a time to enjoy outdoor activities, appreciate fresh beginnings, and care for the environment. Just like the equal day and night, it invites us to find harmony (和谐) in the world around us.
14. When does the Spring Equinox usually arrive each year?
A. Around March 1-3. B. Around March 20-22.
C. Around April 4-6. D. Around April 20-22.
15. What happens to daytime and nighttime on the Spring Equinox?
A. Daytime is much longer. B. Nighttime is much longer.
C. They are almost equal. D. Daytime becomes shorter gradually.
16. Why might people believe it is easier to balance eggs on the Spring Equinox?
A. Because the weather gets warmer. B. Because the eggs are specially prepared.
C. Because birds return and bring good luck. D. Because the Earth’s position creates balance.
17. What does the passage mainly want to tell us about the Spring Equinox?
A. To explain the importance of balance in nature and life.
B. To compare ancient and modern farming methods in China.
C. To list all fun traditions during the Spring Equinox.
D. To describe the scientific reasons behind seasonal changes.

A recent report from a United Nations group warns that using technology in classes may not help as much as many people believe. It says that technology can be helpful, but it shouldn’t be the focus (焦点). Instead, technology should be used to support learning. “Too much attention on technology in education usually comes at a high cost,” the report says.
Technology changes so fast that it’s hard to study how it really influences students. The new report says that many of the studies showing that technology helps students come from rich countries and that some of the studies supporting technology come from companies that sell technology to schools.
As classes moved online, the use of technology in education grew even more quickly. Many students were forced to study at home, using video calls to communicate with their teachers. But the report points out that around 500 million students were unable to take part in online classes. That’s a larger problem. People and countries with less money are often left out.
It is true that technology can help in many ways, like allowing students to learn in more interesting ways, helping teachers explain difficult ideas and helping students with special needs. But it can also be very distracting (分散注意力的). When students use phones in class, it can disturb (扰乱) their learning. One study that was carried out in 14 countries showed that even just having a smartphone (智能手机) nearby can be distracting. Even so, only less than 25% of the world’s countries don’t allow students to use phones in schools.
The report suggests that the best way to learn is still to work closely with teachers. Working with other classmates also helps students learn. Most schools should spend more money on things like books, classrooms, and teachers.
18. How many students couldn’t join online classes, as mentioned in the report?
A. 100 million. B. 250 million. C. 500 million. D. 1 billion.
19. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. A recent UN report says technology should be the focus in classrooms.
B. Overusing technology in education risks inequality and distraction.
C. About 25% of the countries don’t allow students to use phones in schools.
D. It’s necessary to spend more money on technology than on school things.
20. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Countries Work Together to Improve Education
B. Technology Plays an Important Role in Our Life
C. Smartphones Help Students a Lot in Online Learning
D. A UN Group Calls for Limit on Technology in Schools
21. The passage would most probably appear in a section called ______.
A. “Educational Research” B. “Technology News”
C. “Sports Highlights” D. “Travel Guide”

Laurie had just come home from school when she heard a light hammering (敲击) sound coming from Grandpa’s study. Curious, she tapped on the door. “Grandpa? Can I come in?”
“Just a second!” Grandpa answered. Laurie heard lots of shuffling (拖着脚走). “Enter!”
Grandpa was sitting empty-handed at his desk, but there were wood shavings (刨花) everywhere. “Aren’t you supposed to be at school?” he asked.
“It’s over at three. What were you doing here?” Laurie said curiously. She saw something wooden underneath a book. “Aha!” she cried, pulling the object out. “What’s this?”
“Well, that’s your birthday gift. But now it won’t be a surprise,” Grandpa said.
It was a wooden crocodile (鳄鱼) with a string (线) on the top of its head so the mouth could be opened and shut.
“It’s an ancient Egyptian (埃及的) toy,” Grandpa said. “I made this, but if you were a child in ancient Egypt, you might have something similar. Crocodiles were an important part of Egyptian life, and many crocodiles lived in the Nile River.”
“The Egyptians depended on the Nile River for many things. It flooded every year, giving much-needed water and nutrients (营养物) to the land. This made farming easy for the Egyptians. The soft, wet land also made good mud (土) for building mud-brick houses.”
“And the river provided the people of the area with a convenient highway for transportation and communication.”
“Ancient Egypt was an agricultural society. If you were a little Egyptian girl living about four thousand years ago, your father would probably be a grain farmer. Grains were the most common crop, especially wheat and barley, which were used to make bread and beer—the most typical food and drink.”
“Unluckily, children didn’t go to school like you do now. You’d probably spend most days helping your parents. During the harvest season maybe you would bundle (捆扎) wheat up on the farm. Or perhaps you’d be at home, helping to cook or take care of the vegetable garden near your house.”
Just then, Mom called from downstairs, “Laurie! I’m home!”
“Hi, Mom! I’ll be right down!” Laurie said. “Thanks, Grandpa. I’ll pretend (假装) I never saw this,” she said, putting the crocodile back on the desk. “Until next time!”
“Until next time! Bye, Laurie!”
——Adapted from Grandpa’s World History

第六部分 阅读表达(共3小题;54题2分,55题2分,56题3分,满分7分)
The idea of “gap days” has appeared on social media platforms recently. Unlike a gap year, a gap day means a really short period of relaxation and running away from everyday busy work. Apart from gap days, other similar expressions have made a hit on the Internet, like “city walk”, “dazi (activity partner)” and so on.
Some people think that these kinds of new phrases are what people need. “For example, people used to use ‘taking a walk’, but now ‘city walk’ is the positive expression of it.” said Zhou Yaokai, “It’s the same with ‘gap day’. Instead of ‘lying flat’, people are actively trying to balance their stress and life, which is a good way.”
Others disagree, however, and think that it’s simply just a kind of “sugaring up” (粉饰), meeting one’s need for showing off. For example, “city walk” is the same as “taking a walk”. But people feel better by calling it a “city walk”. Wu Ruilin is afraid that such new phrases may cover the risks behind it, such as safety problem. “For example, some young people are questing (寻找) for ‘dazi’, which is normally enjoyed alone or with close friends, like traveling and games. But most ‘dazi’ are just strangers, that may bring problems.” said Wu.
But no matter what we think of these phrases, they have already taken root in our daily lives. So we need to keep a level head and not make them out to be bigger than they actually are.
54. What is a “gap day”?
_______________________________________
55. What problem does Wu Ruilin worry about when young people look for “dazi”?

56. What do you think of these new phrases on the Internet? Why?

A To explain the importance of balance in nature and life.

55. What problem does Wu Ruilin worry about when young people look for “dazi”?

【答案】例文
School Breaks Are Longer
There are a lot of advantages of longer school breaks for students. First, longer breaks are good for students’ health. Students have more time to go outside, breathe fresh air and do physical activities. Second, longer breaks are also good for learning. After a good rest, students can focus better in class.
During the 15-minute breaks, we have lots of choices to relax ourselves. I often go to the playground to play badminton or jump rope with my friends. Sometimes, I simply take a walk around the schoolyard. These activities not only refresh my mind but also make me feel more energetic for the next class.
In my opinion, longer breaks are a great way to balance study and relaxation. I feel happier and more productive when I have enough time to relax during the day.
