Almost a year later, I found myself in Beijing, the capital of China. Before coming here, I had attended Chinese classes, and I could sense my pro- gress in the language, albeit modest. As you might expect, studying for just one year wasn􀆳t suffi- cient to claim fluency, and to be honest, I􀆳m not there yet. But ful proficiency in the language is not necessary to immerse yourself in and enjoy many attractions of life in China. The one thing that truly makes me feel comfortable and aleviates loneliness is making friends and engaging in conversation. At Tsinghua University, where I pursued my studies in China, I made friends with many Chinese young people and relished spending time with them, be it for meals or leisure activities. I􀆳ve been delighted to sing Chinese songs with my friends. I would also sing wel-known Japanese songs, such as Lemon, which is very popular in China. I felt that con- necting with my Chinese peers through a shared passion, such as singing, was incredibly enjoyable and beautiful. It transcended language barriers and fostered a sense of unity and joy that was truly special. During breaks from study, I frequently embarked on solo journeys across China. Although I YT6 英语试卷 第4 页(共8页) have experienced traveling on overnight trains for over 12 hours several times and explored unfamil- iar cities, I never felt fearful or unwelcome as a foreigner. Chinese people are consistently warm and welcoming to foreigners, and eager to engage in conversation. I once participated in community activities in northwest China􀆳s Gansu Province to gain a dee- per understanding of China􀆳s rural areas and contribute to the development of local communities and education. As a volunteer teacher at a local school, I shared contemporary and traditional Japa- nese culture such as anime, architecture, pop music and languages with the students. Since Japa- nese kanji originated in China, there are many similarities between the Japanese and Chinese lan- guages. 24.What is necessary for the author to enjoy attractions of life in China? A.Having proficiency in Chinese. B.Befriending foreign tourists. C.Setting out on solo journeys alone. D.Communicating with Chinese locals. 25.What does the underlined word “relished” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Advocated. B.Enjoyed. C.Postponed. D.Avoided. 26.How did the author develop the text? A.By listing numbers. B.By giving examples. C.By making comparison. D.By setting questions. 27.What is the author􀆳s impression of Chinese people? A.Hospitable. B.Cautious. C.Punctual. D.Smart. C Nanako Hama was holding a light envelope. When she tore it open with care, locks of hair e- merged. Many strangers send Hama locks of their hair, hoping to recycle it. People generate a huge amount of hair waste. Nearly al of that waste ends up in landfil, where it can release harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. But hair possesses useful qualities that it􀆳s a shame to simply throw it away. That􀆳s why people al around the world, like Hama, have been colecting hair and finding innovative ways to recycle it, including making mats(垫子) out of it for removing oil leaks in the ocean. Hama is part of the nonprofit Matter of Trust (MoT) members working at more than 60 cen- ters dotted across 17 countries, using machines to make hair donated from local salons and individ- uals into square mats, which are then used to clean up the floating oil. “Hair is particularly wel- suited for this,” says MoT co-founder Lisa Gautier. “That􀆳s because its rough sort of outer layer lets oil stick to it.” MoT’s mats have been used in major oil leaks, including the 2010 Deepwater Horizon and 2007 Cosco Busan incidents. In a 2018 study, Murray, an environmental scientist at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia found that mats made of recycled human hair could absorb 0.84 grams of oil onto its surface for every gram of hair — significantly more than polypropylene(聚丙烯), a type of plastic that􀆳s typicaly used to clean up the floating oil. Besides, hair is also useful as fertilizer(化肥). Hair contains relatively high nitrogen(氮), a chemical element crucial for plant growth, and each lock of hair is made of roughly 16 percent of this essential nutrient. Last year, more than 560 gal- lons of liquid fertilizer made from human hair was sold to farmers in northern Tanzania and the feedback from the farmers has been very encouraging. “It􀆳s just a great way to use hair in a productive way. Hair is an answer literaly hanging in front of our eyes — for oil and soil,” Hama says. 28.How does the author introduce the topic? A.By presenting a scene. B.By detailing the background. C.By describing the usage of hair. D.By praising an environmentalist. YT6 英语试卷 第5 页(共8页) 29.What can the mat made of human hair do? A.Improve soil. B.Prevent oil leaks. C.Take in harmful gases. D.Clear the sea of oil. 30.Which qualities of hair contribute to its innovative use? A.Its color and strength. B.Its length and amount. C.Its weight and flexibility. D.Its structure and component. 31.Which best describes the future of hair waste as fertilizer? A.Uncertain. B.Promising. C.Doubtful. D.Worrying. D You can􀆳t see it, smel it, or hear it, and people disagree on how to define it precisely, or where exactly it comes from.It isn􀆳t a school subject or an academic discipline, but it can be learn- ed.It is a quality that is required of artists, but it is also present in the lives of scientists and entre- preneurs.Al of us benefit from it and we succeed mentaly and spiritualy when we are able to han- dle it.It is a delicate thing, easily wiped out; in fact, it blossoms most fuly when people are play- ful and childlike. Meanwhile, it works best in meeting with deep knowledge and expertise. This mysterious — but teachable — quality is creativity, the subject of a recently-published report by Durham Commission on Creativity and Education. The report concludes that creativity should not exist in the school curriculum only as it relates to drama, music, art and other obviously creative subjects; but that creative thinking ought to run through al of school life, infusing (全面 影响) the way humanities and natural sciences are learned. Nevertheless, it is arts subjects through which creativity can most obviously be promoted. The value placed on them by the independent education is clear. One only has to look at the remarkable arts facilities at Britain􀆳s top private schools to understand this. But in the state education the ex- treme focus on English, maths and science threatens to destroy arts subjects; meanwhile, reduced school budgets mean decreasing extracurricular activities. This difference between state and private education is a matter of social justice. It is simply wrong and unfair that most children have a smal part of the access to choirs, art studios and drama that their more privileged peers enjoy. As lives are affected by any number of threatening chalen- ges—climate crisis, automation in the workplace — humans are going to need creative thinking more than ever. For al of our sakes, creativity in education, and for al, must become a priority. 32.What is the primary function of the first paragraph in the passage? A.It offers a historical overview of creative thinking. B.It introduces the precise definition and benefits of creativity. C.It guides the reader onto the topic of creativity in education. D.It provides evidence for the importance of science education. 33.What is the conclusion of a recently-published report? A.Natural sciences should be learned the way humanities courses are. B.Growth of creativity should run through the entire school curriculum. C.Art courses should be made required for al students. D.Students should learn more obviously creative subjects. 34.What do we learn about the private schools in the UK? A.They encourage extracurricular activities. B.They attach great importance to arts education. C.They prioritize arts subjects over maths and science. D.They meet the needs of students from different family backgrounds. 35.What should be done to meet the future chalenges? YT6 英语试卷 第6 页(共8页) A.Increasing government investment in school education. B.Narrowing the existing gap between the rich and the poor. C.Providing al children with equal access to arts education. D.Focusing on meeting the needs of under privileged students. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选 项。 How to Create Good Habits Have you ever made a promise to yourself that you didn􀆳t keep? Commonly, when the new year ticks over, we make resolutions: going to the gym, studying harder or giving up a bad habit. 36 . But what if you want to create a new good habit? Wel, it􀆳s possible, but wilpower might not be the only thing you need. The basic idea of a habit is something we do almost unconsciously, as if you􀆳re on autopilot. 37 . Good habits can be part of your daily routine. But if we don􀆳t have those habits, how can we create them? According to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit. However, relying only on determination may not be the answer. Questioning why you want something to be the norm(常态) rather than relying on your re- solve(决心) could be the key. 38 ? The issue is, wilpower could be subject to your mood — a bad mood may mean you don􀆳t want to do something. 39 . Giving up al your favourite foods, going to the gym, and stopping drinking at the same time wil probably result in failure rather than sustainable practice. And don􀆳t worry about failing — just start again! Finaly, don􀆳t do things outside your comfort zone. If you hate mushrooms, don􀆳t persevere and try to add them to your diet just to be healthier. 40 ! It might not be quick, but if you folow these tips, you may be able to change something for the better or kick a bad habit. A. Eat something you like B. Learn something new every day C. You should also avoid trying to change too much at once D. Sadly, not long after we􀆳ve made promises, we often end up breaking them E. An example of this would be having breakfast or saying “please” and “ thank you” F. Is it of great importance for people to form a good habit of keeping a balanced diet G. Do you want to lose weight because you want to be healthier or feel more attractive 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 I was with my father at a clinic near his home for a routine blood test. And now, scientists are unlocking more secrets about this ancient civilization with the discovery of 417 cities 56 (date) back to 2,000 years ago, said The Washington Post. The cities 57 (find) to be connected by 110 miles (about 177 kilometers) of “highways” in May, which consisted of the “world􀆳s first-ever extensive system of highways”. The “highways”, 58 Reuters reported, were spacious roadways 59 (make) in stone. Plus, scientists also found pyramids, bal game courts and water engineering, 60 (include) dams and irrigation ca- nals. The Maya civilization was “far 61 (advanced) than we thought”, noted The Washington Post. As one of the greatest 62 (civilization) of the Western Hemisphere, the Maya first estab- lished settlements around 1800 BC. Their empire spanned parts of Mexico and several countries in Central America, noted the website HISTORY Channel. People long believed that the Maya were stil just hunter-gatherers. 63 the new findings showed that they were already busy creating cities in world history at the time. They did al this in a jungle environment, which is rare and im- pressive. They had to clear rainforest areas 64 (farm) and built large underground reservoirs to store rainwater. However, by 900 BC, many Maya cities were abandoned, caling 65 end to the empire. When I was in high school, there was nothing I loved more than going bowling — and no place I􀆳d rather be than AI􀆳s Kingpin Lanes. That place was great: Friday 5-dolar foot-long hot dogs with al the toppings, and always playing 1940s jazz and 1950s rockabily music. I got so obsessed with bowling that I even managed to convince my high school to start a varsity(校队) and junior varsity bowling sports club. During my high school years, from freshman to junior year, starting and leading my school􀆳s bowling club realy helped me to come out of my shel. As time went on, our varsity team began winning local and even state tournaments. Soon enough, our school was getting bowling trophies (奖杯) to go alongside the trophies for more traditional sports like swimming and track and field. These victories not only boosted my popularity but also alowed me to form meaningful connections along the way! Life was great back then. Stil, the bowling memory that realy stuck out to me was when I met Leroy. Although Leroy happened to go to the same high school as I did, we didn􀆳t realy cross paths that much. I was al- ready a junior by then, and as I found out later, he was stil a young freshman. The strange thing about it, though, was how he would always hang out in the back, nervously watching everyone else play. Despite his regular presence, he seemed too nervous and shy to play or even talk with others. Then, one evening while I was out with my friends at Kingpin Lanes, something remarkable happened. I witnessed Leroy actualy picking up a bowling bal for the first time. His shoes were untied, he struggled to lift even the lightest bal up, and with each throw, the bal ended up in the gutter(保龄球回球槽道) lane, resulting in straight zeroes across the board. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 That􀆳s when I finaly made my way over to say hi to Leroy. And that was the beginning of our friendship.
