If we looked outside right now, he said, we’d see a beautiful sea of icebergs in the golden sunlight. My sister and I jumped out of bed, staring in amazement as we sailed past giant pieces of ice. In the distance, we spotted a group of humpback whales feeding on smaller fishes. Next door, my parents were also waking up to the sights of a new day in Antarctica. Over breakfast, my sister and I excitedly told them about the whales we saw from our room that morning. You might not immediately think of “family vacation” when talking about a trip to Antarctica, but tour companies like Adventures by Disney are changing that. The company offers guided group trips to destinations across all seven continents in the world. Our adventure started when we flew to Buenos Aires and explored the beautiful Argentine capital for a day. After leaving Buenos Aires, we flew to Ushuaia on an Adventures by Disney plane. Then, it was the journey toward the Drake Passage. After a speedy Drake Passage crossing, we reached Antarctica early, adding a half day to our scheduled four days on and around the continent. To those unfamiliar with Adventures by Disney, the fact that you can experience Antarctica — the most distant, extreme continent — with Disney might be surprising. During the trip, there were thoughtful acts, from stamped postcards to send from an Antarctica post office to a champagne (香槟) party on our final stop of the journey; Adventures by Disney truly thought of everything for us. Antarctica is a life-changing destination packed with experiences that can’t be copied. We experienced seasickness when travelling across the Drake Passage, hiked up ice hills alongside lovely animals, and had a taste of champagne. And honestly, it’s going to be hard for the next family trip we may take to compete. 24.How did the author and her sister feel when sailing past the icebergs? A.Frightened. B.Pessimistic. C. Fantastic. D.Dangerous. 25.What happened first on the author’s journey? A.They flew to Ushuaia. B.They hiked up ice hills alongside lovely animals C.They passed through the Drake Passage. D.They toured around Buenos Aires. 26.What can we infer about their travel from the last paragraph? A.The author was the most impressed by the champagne party. B.The author might feel bad when crossing the Drake Passage. C.The author believes that their next travel will be more thrilling. D.The author thought an Antarctica post office should be established. 27.Which can serve as the best title for the text? A.Exploring Antarctica — A Place with Various animals B.An Antarctic Adventure for Scientific Research C.A Family’s Journey to Antarctica D.A Comfortable Travel Experience C The study, published in the Journal of Child Psychology & Psychiatry, compared survey results of parents with their children in England and Wales from the ages of 16 months to 13 years. The research team found that average levels of food fussiness (挑食) were relatively stable during this period, peaking somewhat around the age of 7 and declining slightly after that. They concluded that genetic differences in the population accounted for 60% of the variation in food fussiness at 16 months, rising to 74% and over between the ages of 3 and 13. Lead author Dr Zeynep Nas said, “Food fussiness is common among children and can be a major source of anxiety for parents and caregivers, who often blame themselves for this behaviour or are blamed by others. “We hope our finding that fussy eating is largely inborn may help to ease parental blame. This behaviour is not a result of parenting.” Senior author Dr Clare Llewellyn said, “While genetic factors are the major influence for food fussiness, environment also plays a supporting role. Environmental factors, such as sitting down together as a family to eat meals, may only be significant in toddlerhood (蹒跚学步期); while environmental factors, such as individual personal experiences (e.g. having different friends) become more influential in later years.” This suggests that interventions (干预) to help children eat a wider range of foods, such as repeatedly exposing children to the same foods regularly and offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, may be most effective in the very early years. Unique environmental factors accounted for about a quarter of individual differences between children in fussy eating by ages 7 and 13, the researchers estimated. Among the study limitations, the researchers noted that there were fewer participants at age 7 compared to other time points and that the study sample (样本) had a large percentage of white British households of higher social-economic backgrounds compared to the general population of England and Wales, In future, the team said, research should focus on non-western populations where food culture, parental feeding practices and food security may be quite different. 28.According to paragraph 1, what does the study tell us? A.Children at 7 have the highest level of food fussiness. B.Children become more particular about food with age. C.Teenagers over 13 years old have a balanced diet. D.Variation in food fussiness causes genetic differences. 29.In Dr Zeynep Nas’s opinion, ______. A.children should be ashamed of their picky eating B.children are born to have certain food preferences C.parental anxiety leads to children’s food fussiness D.parents should adopt more effective feeding practices 30.When children reach 12, which of the following influences their food fussiness most? A.Being exposed to various foods. B.The environment of family dinners. C.The closeness of interpersonal relations. D.Having meals together with fellows. 31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A.Food fussiness is unique to western countries. B.Cultural factors have been taken into account. C.More global samples should be collected. D.The study lacks hard evidence for food fussiness. D In Victorian London, Alexander Parkes developed the world’s first plastic. Notpla, a company now based in the same part of the city, developed its material made from seaweed. At Emirates Stadium, football fans already enjoy hot dogs served on trays (托盘) using the material, which breaks down naturally in just six weeks. Notpla is not the only company which is exploring using natural polymers(聚合物) — such as corn, mushrooms or agricultural waste — as alternatives to plastic. IKEA, a Swedish homewares giant, has experimented with mushroom-based packaging. More and more companies make efforts to reduce their plastic waste. This year, according to the OECD, about seven-tenths of 500m tons of plastic will end up in landfill or be thrown into waterways or oceans. The production and disposal of plastic accounts for about 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, more than from aviation. For most companies, the main use of plastic is for packaging, which accounts for a third of the material’s production, and much of it cannot be recycled. Many businesses have already begun taking steps to reduce this type of waste. Coca-Cola, for example, has replaced its green Sprite lemonade bottles with easily-recycled plastic. Since 2018, 250 companies have reduced their use of plastic for packaging by 3%. But it’s far short of the 18% target they set for next year. Greater use of alternative packaging materials might help them pick up the pace. However, many of the alternative materials remain expensive. A seaweed-coated hot-dog trays cost about three to four times more than a plastic one. Companies will thus need to survey how many shoppers are willing to pay for it. In a survey of consumers conducted by Euromonitor, more than four-fifths said they would pay a higher price for a product with sustainable packaging. Whether such good intentions translate into shopping behavior is another matter. 32.What is the advantage of Notpla’s material? A.It enjoys great popularity. B.It is environment-friendly. C.It lasts as long as possible. D.It is made from seaweed. 33.What can we learn from paragraph 4? A.Alternative materials may speed up the drop of plastic use. B.A half of the produced plastic is used for packaging. C.Many companies can recycle 3% of their used plastic. D.The companies reached the goal they had set before. 34.What is the challenge of adopting alternative materials? A.The difficulty in recycling them. B.The lack of consumers’ awareness. C.The high cost of alternative materials. D.The lack of government support. 35.What is the suitable title of this passage? A.Great Popularity of Seaweed Materials B.Sudden Disappearance of Plastic Packaging C.Big Breakthroughs in Recycling Plastic D.New Possibility of Future Packaging 第二节(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Have you ever felt like you’re never happy with what you have? Do you think things could be better somewhere else even if they are good enough? This is what is called Grass Is Greener Syndrome (综合征). It is a syndrome where one always thinks the grass is greener on the other side. It can keep you from being glad for what is in your life now. 36 Here are some tips to overcome Grass Is Greener Syndrome. Practice gratitude and appreciation. By focusing on what we already have and being thankful for it, we can find happiness in our current situation. This helps prevent feelings of regret and dissatisfaction that often come with constantly comparing ourselves to others or daydreaming about a different life. 37 It also makes us recognize the value of our lives and relationships. Avoid comparisons. Comparisons can be a trap when it comes to dealing with Grass Is Greener Syndrome. Constantly comparing yourself or your situation to others is a feature of this syndrome. It’s easy to think that the grass is always greener on the other side. 38 Embrace imperfections. Embracing imperfections is a crucial step in overcoming Grass Is Greener Syndrome. 39 They include the faults both within ourselves and in our surroundings. By learning to accept that imperfections are a normal part of life, we can break free from the constant longing for something better. Embracing imperfections means acknowledging that no one and nothing is perfect, including ourselves. 40 Many people who experience this syndrome struggle with low self-esteem and feelings of unsafety. They constantly compare themselves to others and believe that they are not good enough or deserving of happiness. Addressing these problems involves challenging negative beliefs, seeking therapy or counseling (咨询), and practicing self-acceptance and personal growth. A. Address problems of over-confidence. B. Deal with insecurities and self-doubt. C. However, this kind of thinking can lead to dissatisfaction and unhappiness. D. Uncertainty and curiosity play a big part in creating the syndrome. E. Developing an attitude of gratitude allows us to appreciate the present moment. F. When it hits hard, this syndrome can cause many problems. G. One of the main signs of this syndrome is always searching for mistakes. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 My daughter loved dance, until she didn’t. But watching my first-grader drag (勉强) herself into each ballet position, I started to 45 how much that “blanket advice” meant. In my daughter’s case, ending dance made space for her new 51 , such as horseback riding and Girl Scouts. She’s into them for now, but it is okay if that still changes. As adults, we are used to 52 the power of saying yes, but what about saying no? The ability to recognize when something isn’ t a(n) 53 investment(投资) of our time or energy is also important. As my daughter gets older, I want her to feel confident to 54 something that’s no longer meeting her needs. She shouldn’t be held back by the thought that she must 55 something at any cost simply because she has started. 41. A. annoying B. independent C. enthusiastic D. confusing 42. Bilal, a teenager, was excited to finally have the free time to play video games on his PlayStation and endlessly surf the internet on his phone. The digital world was his playground, a place where he could escape into adventures and challenges that kept him entertained for hours on end. His parents were tired of always trying to stop him, constantly telling him that spending so much time online and on social media wasn’t good for his physical health. They worried about his eyesight and the lack of physical activity. But Bilal never listened. He was very addicted to the e-world. The appeal of virtual achievements and social interactions was too strong for him to resist. One day, after getting fed up, his mother discussed Bilal with his grandparents. “Is there any way we can get him away from this internet world?” she asked, her voice filled with desperation. His grandfather replied, “Yes, there is a way. I am planning to visit our village for a week. I am thinking of taking Bilal along. It will be a new experience for him to see a simple lifestyle. Besides, the internet signals are very bad there, so he won’t be able to stay online very often.” His mother was happy to hear this. “That’s a very good idea,” she replied, hopeful that this could be the turning point for Bilal. She excitedly went and shared it with Bilal, hoping he would be happy about going with his grandparents, but he refused, saying the trip would be boring without the internet. “How would I spend my days?” he complained. Just then his grandmother entered the room and explained calmly to him that it would be an exciting trip. She spoke of the beauty of nature, the joy of community, and the simple pleasures of life away from screens. She told him stories of the village, of the stars at night and the fresh air that filled the lungs with life. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Two days later, Bilal’s grandparents started their journey. _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ A week passed quickly and it was time for Bilal to return. _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ 2024-2025学年度第二学期南昌中学三经路校区期中考试 高二英语参考答案 听力1-5 ABCCB 6-10 CBCCA 11-15 CABBA 16-20 CABAC 阅读21-23 ACD 24-27 CDBC 28-31 ABDC 32-35 BACD 36-40 FECGB 完形填空41-45 CDABB 46-50 ACBCD 51-55 DCABD 语法填空 56. highly 57.unfolds 58.progressing 59.that/which 60.growth 61.is expected 62.a 63.to 64.the most talented 65.making 写作 第一节 One possible version: Notice To raise students’ awareness of environmental protection and promote garbage sorting on campus, our school will conduct a series of activities next Saturday. After arriving at their old house, which was large and open, they had dinner with their relatives. The next morning. Bilal went to the fields, where the farmers greeted him warmly. Bilal wandered around the fields full of beautiful flowers and fruit trees. He explored the cotton fields, learning how farmers harvest the crops. He also participated in the work. Additionally, Bilal made friends with the village children and played outdoor games. He felt so interested in the new experience that he didn’t even miss playing video games. A week passed quickly and it was time for Bilal to return. He didn’t want to leave because he had started enjoying the simple village life that brought him many new enriching experiences. His grandparents promised him that they would return to the place annually or during his extended school breaks. On the journey back, Bilal thought that coming to the village was the best thing that had happened to him. He had experienced a new lifestyle, enjoyed quality time, and made wonderful memories — all without the internet! 听力材料 Text 1 W: The medicine we ordered has arrived. We should be careful with that big blue box. And the medicine in the red box should be kept refrigerated. M: OK, Dr. Lin. What should we do with the gray box? W: Oh, there are face masks in it. Just put the gray box in storage. Text 2 W: Oh, my goodness. A gust of wind almost blew my hat off. M: I guess wind speeds have reached force five. The weather forecast said there would be heavy snow tonight. W: Oh, I really miss the sunny days. Text 3 M: Hello. I’d like to book a ticket to Russia on July 6th. W: All right, sir. We have flights leaving at 8:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Which flight do you want to take? M: I want to book a ticket for the morning, please. Text 4 W: David, would you like one more egg? M: No,thanks. I’m full. I’d like some coffee. W: Sorry, I don’t have any coffee. M: That’s OK. I’ll have a glass of water. Text 5 M: Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to the supermarket? W: Certainly. Go straight for about one mile on Green Street, and then turn right at the traffic light. Walk a few more steps and you’ll see a flower store. The supermarket is on its left. Text 6 W: Hello, sir. May I help you? M: Yes, can I see that shirt on the left shelf please? W: Sure. Here you are. M: How much is it? W: 55 dollars. M: 55 dollars? That’s too expensive. W: How about the one next to the yellow sweater? It’s cheaper and very similar to this one. It comes in three colors: white, black and green. M: Well, white one gets dirty easily and black would make me look dull. W: Then I’ll pack the green one for you? M: OK. Text 7 M: Dorothy, what are your plans for Christmas? W: Oh, it’s almost Christmas. I nearly forgot. And I’m not sure what I’ll do then. M: Well, if you don’t have any plans, you could have dinner at my house. W: OK. That’s very nice of you. Have you finished your shopping yet? M: Not yet. I have to buy some gifts for my wife and my son. I think I’ll go to the mall this Sunday. W: It’s going to be really crowded at the mall then. You can try shopping online. M: Good idea. W: What are you going to buy? M: My family loves reading. So I’ll get some books. W: What do you like? I’m planning to buy something for you. M: Really? Thanks a lot. Maybe a tea box. I bought a lot of tea from China, but I got no place to store it. W: All right then. Text 8 W: Ken, what do you think is more important, hard work or talent? M: They both play an important role in whatever task you do. But personally, I think hard work is more important than talent. W: Why do you say so? M: Well, I knew nothing about music in the past. But with the help of my father, I learned to play the violin three years ago. I have been practicing four times a week. And last month I even went on stage and won second place. I am proud of myself. W: Wow, what an amazing example! But the success of so many people around me proves that talent is more important. Susan, one of my aunts, is a quick learner. I remember once she told me that she had done nothing to prepare for a meeting, but she pulled it off, because she collected all the key information she needed in a short time. M: Well, maybe. But for most ordinary people, all they can do is to spend more time and energy on what they are trying to accomplish. Text 9 W: Thomas, your Chinese is so good. M: Thanks. Everyone in my company can speak Chinese. W: Why? Your company does business with Chinese firms? M: No, you might not believe this. We love Chinese films. My colleagues and I watch a Chinese film every week. We check the newly released movie online. And then we look at the reviews about it. Finally we decide whether to see it or not. W: Good. I haven’t seen any Chinese films. Can you recommend one? M: Of course. What kind of films are you interested in? Comedies, action movies or war films? Chinese war films are quite excellent. W: Which movie impressed you the most? M: That must be The Battle at Lake Changjin. W: I heard of it before. What is the main plot of the movie? M: Well, if you want to know it, see it yourself. Text 10 W: Are New Year’s resolutions powerful or pointless? Almost every year of my life, I’ve started the New Year with a set of resolutions that I’ve been determined to keep. The results, predictably, have been variable. Last year, I mostly kept to my fitness goal of doing 20-minute sports each day, but I failed miserably at my aim of quitting social media. According to my weekly screen-time reports, I still spend between two and three hours each day on my phone. I am far from alone in my determination to start each new year with a plan for self-improvement.
