Amy Johnson was one of the most influential and inspirational women of the twentieth century. She was the first woman to fly alone from England to Australia in 1930 and she set a series of other records throughout her career.
Amy grew up in Hull, where her father ran a fish export and import business. She worked for a law firm until, at a loose end one Sunday afternoon, she boarded a bus that took her to Stag Lane Aerodrome in North London. There, Amy was immediately attracted by the planes she watched taking off and landing. Soon she started to spend all her spare time at the airfield. During the 1920s and 1930s, aviation (飞行) was controlled by the rich and famous. However, with great effort, Amy was awarded her pilot’s license (执照) in 1929.
Unlike today’s pilots, Amy had no radio link with the ground and no dependable information about the weather, and her maps were basic. But daringly, Amy followed the most direct path-simply by placing a rule on the map, which took her over some of the world’s most dangerous places, meaning she had to fly for at least eight hours at a time.
On her Australia trip, despite a forced landing in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert, Amy reached India in a record six days. Although the bad weather took away her chance to beat Hinkler’s record, the world’s press started to pay attention and Amy became “The Lone Girl Flyer”.
Amy landed in Australia on Saturday, May 24. Over the next six weeks, she was treated like a superstar. Women asked their hairdressers for an “Amy Johnson wave”. At least ten songs were written about her, and the most famous one was Amy, Wonderful Amy performed by Jack Hylton. Fan mail poured in and such was her fame that an envelope addressed to “Amy flies in England” reached its destination.
4. What originally attracted Amy’s interest in aviation?
A. Her father’s success in the fish business.
B. Her occasional encounter with airplanes.
C. Her inborn curiosity about the sky.
D. Her trip from England to Australia.
5. What can we learn from Amy’s flying?
A. She pioneered a new airline. B. She had poor flight assistance.
C. She made a good fortune through it. D. She preferred short-distance flights.
6. What made Amy be noticed by the press?
A. Her bravery to face failure. B. Her successful landing despite difficulties.
C. Her special destination of flight. D. Her unique taste in fashion.
7. How does Amy sound in the last paragraph?
A. Popular. B. Open-minded.
C. Well-rounded. D. Independent
B 5. B 6. B 7. A
根据文章第二段“She worked for a law firm until, at a loose end one Sunday afternoon, she boarded a bus that took her to Stag Lane Aerodrome in North London. There, Amy was immediately attracted by the planes she watched taking off and landing. Soon she started to spend all her spare time at the airfield. (她曾在一家律师事务所工作,直到某个周日下午无所事事时,她搭上了一辆开往伦敦北部斯塔格巷机场的公共汽车。在那里,Amy被眼前起起落落的飞机立刻吸引住了。很快,她就开始把所有业余时间都花在机场。)”可知,Amy最初对航空的兴趣源于她偶然间遇到的飞机。故选B。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Unlike today’s pilots, Amy had no radio link with the ground and no dependable information about the weather, and her maps were basic. (与当今的飞行员不同,Amy没有与地面进行无线电联系的设备,也没有可靠的天气信息,而且她的地图也非常基础。)”可知,Amy的飞行辅助设备很差。故选B。
6题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段“On her Australia trip, despite a forced landing in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert, Amy reached India in a record six days. Although the bad weather took away her chance to beat Hinkler’s record, the world’s press started to pay attention and Amy became “The Lone Girl Flyer”.
根据文章最后一段“Over the next six weeks, she was treated like a superstar. (在接下来的六周里,她像超级明星一样受到款待。女人们要求理发师给自己剪个“Amy Johnson式”的波浪发型。至少有十首歌是为她而写的,其中最著名的是Jack Hylton演唱的《艾米,了不起的艾米》。粉丝来信如潮水般涌来,她的名气之大以至于一封寄给“在英国飞行的Amy”的信件也成功送达了目的地。)”可知,Amy非常受欢迎。故选A。
C
Many diseases and medical conditions are caused by things out of our control. Yet experts say you can control and even prevent many of the factors that increase your chances of dying. Experts note that an unhealthy lifestyle can put you at great risk of heart disease and strokes. So doctors urge us to eat healthy foods, get exercise, stop smoking and limit our alcohol intake. But there is something else you can do. And it is free and easy. Smile!
Anand Chockalingam is a heart disease specialist at University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, Missouri. He advises his patients to smile. “When we smile, the brain wiring gets altered. The chemicals that are released are more positive.” He says smiling is a first step in fighting physical and emotional stress and sometimes the stress has harmful effects on human health. This is not just New Age advice. Several studies support Dr. Chockalingam’s prescription -smile more.
Disorders of the heart and blood vessels(血管) are the number one cause of death around the world. The main causes of heart attacks and strokes are blockages in blood vessels. These prevent blood from flowing to the heart or the brain. When you feel stressed or under pressure, your body releases many natural hormones(激素) that increase your heart rate and blood pressure. Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone. It increases sugar in the bloodstream. If you are truly in danger, these hormones can help you. They are part of what we call our fight- or-flight response. However, when you are stressed for a long period, these stress hormones may lead to health problems.
Dr. Chockalingam says a smile may be one way to help. He tells his patients to smile 20 times an hour. To some, that might seem like a lot of smiling. Or some might even feel foolish... smiling for seemingly no reason. But a smile does not involve drugs. It is free and it has no bad side effects.
“Once people smile, they are relaxed. This relaxation directly lowers blood pressure, and improves sugar levels in the blood. If we are smiling, we are breaking that link between stress and health.”
8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To stop people from drinking too much alcohol.
B. To show the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
C. To show some factors that can increase the chance of dying.
D. To introduce a free and easy way to control the factors of dying.
9. What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A. The patients who smile can get altered.
B. Smiling can add to physical and emotional stress.
C. Physical and emotional stress must have bad effects.
D. When people smile, there will be positive chemicals produced.
10. Which of the following statements is reasonable?
A. The smiling patients are foolish.
B. Heart attacks and strokes don’t cause death.
C. The stress hormones may lead to different results, good or bad.
D. When you feel stressed, the body releases many beneficial hormones.
11. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Smiling makes you relaxed.
B. You should lead a happy life.
C. Smiling is beneficial to your health.
D. You should stop leading the unhealthy life.
D 9. D 10. C 11. C
根据文章第一段中的“But there is something else you can do. And it is free and easy. Smile!”(但你还可以做点别的。它是自由和容易的。微笑!)可推知,第一段作者想引出一种可以控制死亡因素的自由、简单的方法——微笑。故选D项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“When we smile, the brain wiring gets altered. The chemicals that are released are more positive.”(当我们微笑时,大脑的线路会发生改变。
由第三段中的“If you are truly in danger, these hormones can help you. They are part of what we call our fight- or-flight response. However, when you are stressed for a long period, these stress hormones may lead to health problems.”(如果你真的处于危险之中,这些激素可以帮助你。
根据文章大意以及最后一段““Once people smile, they are relaxed. This relaxation directly lowers blood pressure, and improves sugar levels in the blood. If we are smiling, we are breaking that link between stress and health.””(“一旦人们微笑,他们就会放松。这种放松直接降低了血压,提高了血糖水平。如果我们微笑,我们就打破了压力和健康之间的联系。”)由此可知,全文围绕“微笑”与“改善心血管状态和对健康的好处”进行阐述,故文章的主旨是微笑对你的健康有益。故选 C 项

From long and winding migration flights to complex songs and clever tool use, many bird behaviors are known to be transmitted (传播) socially and persist across generations—what scientists define as animal “culture”. Now a study suggests culture might play a role in bird nest architecture, too.
Researchers analyzed more than 400 structures built by 43 different groups of White-browed Sparrow-Weavers in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. These birds live communally, and the entire group works together to build a nest and multiple roosts from grass. The group’s dominant female then lays eggs in the nest, which has a long, tube-like entrance. Individual birds sleep nearby in the U-shaped roosts, which have both an entrance and an exit.
The scientists found that different gatherings of birds, even those living only a few meters from one another, built very different tube structures. The biggest difference was in “how short or long the structures are,” says study lead author Maria C. Tello-Ramos, a cognitive ecologist at the University of Hull in England. Tube width also varied between groups. Furthermore, each group maintained the same architectural style over time—and when outsiders joined, they adapted to this style.
To examine why the groups built differently, the team analyzed factors that can determine a nest’s size and shape for a given bird species: weather conditions, tree height, individuals’ body size and genetic relatedness. If closely related birds build similar structures, for instance, one might assume a genetic element. Yet none of these factors seemed to play a relevant role in shaping how the Kalahari sparrows built their nests, the researchers report in Science.
Tello-Ramos and her colleagues proposed that cultural transmission might be key to nest building. “In our paper, we haven’t gotten there yet with experiments, but we have very good clues that that might be it,” she says. But Christina Riehl, an evolutionary biologist at Princeton University, says, “They can’t actually look at the effect of genetic differences, because they don’t have really good genetic information on all the individuals in these groups. There’s a lot left to be done, and this paper will inspire future research in a really good way.”
12. What is the text mainly about?
A. The role of culture in bird nest architecture.
B. The genetic factors in bird nest construction.
C. The life habit of White-browed Sparrow-Weavers.
D The environmental factors affecting bird nest building.
13. What did the scientists find about the tube structures?
A. The structure had the same tube width.
B. The tube length was the biggest difference.
C. The materials of the tube structures varied.
D. Different groups of birds had the same tube structure.
14. Why did the team analyze the decisive factors?
A. To identify genetic influences. B. To create the architectural style.
C. To give reasons for different nests. D. To explore environmental impacts.
15. What can we infer from Christina Riehl’s statement?
A. Genetic factors have been fully proved.
B. A lot of further research are badly needed.
C. Culture plays a key role in building a bird nest.
D. The findings are enough to rule out genetic factors.
A 13. B 14. C 15. B

“the entry to...” 故填to。
故填which。

“take...as an/a example”是固定短语,意为“以…… 为例”,“representative”是以辅音音素开头的单词,所以用不定冠词 a。故填a。
“be rooted in”是固定短语,意为“扎根于,起源于”,此处用过去分词短语“rooted in China’s traditional agricultural society”作后置定语,修饰“craftsmanship”。
“be worthy of doing”表示“值得做某事”,且 “they”(指代前面的 “Chinese art forms”)和“inherit”之间是被动关系,所以用动名词的被动形式“being inherited”。故填being inherited。
故填or。

The air hung heavy with heat as Maya rode her bike home from school. Even in early October, the temperature had rose to 38℃ — another record-breaking day in what scientists called “the hottest year in human history.” Sweat dripped down her neck as she passed withered (枯萎的) trees lining the street, their leaves crisp and brown from months of drought.
Suddenly, a deafening crack split the sky. Dark clouds swallowed the sun, and wind whipped (抽打) trash into small tornadoes. Maya barely made it to her corridor before hailstones began pounding the roof. Through the living room window, she watched Mr. Thompson’s greenhouse break into a thousand glittering pieces.
The storm died as suddenly as it began. When Maya stepped outside, her shoes sank into ankle-deep water. The neighborhood looked like a warzone: flooded streets, uprooted bushes, and a thick layer of ice coating everything. Her phone buzzed with emergency alerts — “Extreme weather alarm!”
That evening, the power remained out. By candlelight, Maya looked through climate disaster headlines on her dying phone battery: melting glaciers, displaced polar bears, wildfires consuming ancient forests. A lump formed in her throat. She remembered her grandmother’s stories about gentle autumn rains and predictable seasons — a world that no longer existed. “Mom,” Maya whispered as they boiled water on the gas stove, “what if this keeps getting worse?” Her mother sighed, “We’re past the ‘what if’ phase, sweetheart. This is worse. But maybe not too late to make it less terrible.”
A spark was burning in Maya’s chest. She grabbed a notebook and began drafting things. On the pages, her ideas flowed like a river, unstoppable and fierce. In the end she succeeded in outlining a plan for an initiative. When her best friend Aisha video-called at dawn, Maya did not say hello. She pushed the notebook in front of the camera: “STUDENT CLIMATE ACTION PLAN” in bold letters.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:

Paragraph 2:
Their momentum (势头) grew like wildfire.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
Maya flipped her notebook open, eyes sparkling. “Look, Aisha,” she said eagerly. “We can start a campaign at school. First, we set up a recycling program to reduce waste. Then, we organize carpooling to cut down on emissions. And we could even plant trees in the schoolyard to absorb carbon dioxide.” Aisha’s eyes widened with excitement. “That’s amazing, Maya! Let’s do it.” They immediately started making phone calls, reaching out to classmates and teachers. They created posters and flyers, spreading the word about their plan.
Paragraph 2:
Their momentum (势头) grew like wildfire. Students from different grades joined in, each eager to contribute. The school administration provided support, allocating resources for their projects. Local media caught wind of their initiative and came to cover the story. Inspired by their efforts, other schools in the area also began their own climate action plans. Maya and Aisha watched with pride as their small idea blossomed into a large-scale movement, bringing hope for a more sustainable future in the face of the climate crisis.

D. Independent

D. The environmental factors affecting bird nest building.

The air hung heavy with heat as Maya rode her bike home from school. Even in early October, the temperature had rose to 38℃ — another record-breaking day in what scientists called “the hottest year in human history.” Sweat dripped down her neck as she passed withered (枯萎) trees lining the street, their leaves crisp and brown from months of drought.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
