I think a hero is someone who goes out of his way to make others happy. My hero is Mr. Wright, my chorus(合唱队) teacher. When I was 12 years old, my grandparents passed away. I was really close to them, and losing them was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to 1 through. I couldn’t eat, sleep, or think; I felt like I couldn’t even breathe. It was as if my whole world had fallen down from under me, and I fell into this huge hole of depression (抑郁). 2 I was battling depression, I was determined to make my high school years the best of my life. It was difficult to be happy, but I had to try. I joined Women’s Choir. Mr. Wright was the choral director and he was so funny that the first day, I just knew I had made the best 3 of my life. As the year progressed, I loved chorus more and more. I began to smile again and really enjoy life. Then one day that all changed. My friends — or those that I thought were my friends —started talking about me behind my back. I was hurt, and I sat by myself. Mr. Wright came over and asked what was wrong. The look in his eyes told me that I could trust him. Trying hard to 4 back tears, I told him the whole story. When I finished, he nodded and told me, “If you never learn anything from me, learn this: No one is worth 5 your joy.” What Mr. Wright said really struck a chord (心弦) in my heart. He truly cared about me and what was going on. I’ll never be able to thank him enough, because he not only saved me but has 6 every day of it since. A.an assistant robot B.various programming courses C.free accommodations D.a 12-day learning experience B The teacher who did the most to encourage me was, as it happened, my aunt. She was Myrtle C. Manigault, the wife of my mother’s brother Bill. She taught in second grade at all-black Summer School in Camden, New Jersey. During my childhood and youth, Aunt Myrtle encouraged me to develop every aspect of my potential, without regard for what was considered practical or possible for black females. I liked to sing; she listened to my voice and pronounced it good. I couldn’t dance; she taught me the basic dancing steps. She took me to the theatre — not just children’s theatre but adult comedies and dramas — and her faith that I could appreciate adult plays was not disappointed. My aunt also took down books from her extensive library and shared them with me.I had books at home, but they were all serious classics. Even as a child I had a strong liking for humor, and I’ll never forget the joy of discovering Don Marquis’s Archy & Mehitabel through her. Most important, perhaps, Aunt Myrtle provided my first opportunity to write for publication. A writer herself for one of the black newspapers, she suggested my name to the editor as a“ youth columnist”. My column, begun when I was fourteen, was supposed to cover teenage social activities — and it did — but it also gave me the freedom to write on many other subjects as well as the habit of gathering material, the discipline of meeting deadlines, and, after graduation from college six years later, a solid collection of published material that carried my name and was my passport to a series of writing jobs. Today Aunt Myrtle is still an enthusiastic supporter of her “favorite niece”. Like a diamond, she has reflected a bright, multifaceted (多面的) image of possibilities to every pupil who has crossed her path. 24.Which of the following did Aunt Myrtle do to the author during her childhood and youth? A.She lent her some serious classics. B.She developed her taste for music. C.She discovered her talent for dancing. D.She introduced her to adult plays. 25.Aunt Myrtle recommended the author to a newspaper editor mainly to ______ . A.develop her abilities to write B.give her a chance to collect material C.involve her in teenage social activities D.offer her a series of writing jobs 26.We can conclude from the passage that Aunt Myrtle was a teacher who ______ . A.trained pupils to be hard-working and well-disciplined B.gave pupils confidence in making use of their potential C.gave importance to what was practical or possible for pupils D.helped pupils overcome difficulties in learning C Do we really know our best friends? I like my close friends a lot, and yet, on an almost daily basis, they shocked me. I have a friend who thinks voting is a waste of time; I have another friend who never takes any arrangement to meet at a given time and place seriously. It’s generally held that friends are people with whom we choose to develop relationships because we find their personalities agreeable, or similar to our own, and yet experience regularly contradicts this. What is a friend, really? All that one can safely say is that a friend is someone one likes and wishes to see again. The truth is that we don’t know our friends. Numerous studies show that we tend to assume our friends agree with us more than they really do. The striking part is that the problem doesn’t appear to lessen as a friendship deepens. When the researchers Michael Gill and Bill Swann questioned students sharing rooms, they found that, as time passed, people became even more confident in the accuracy of their judgments about the other, and yet, in reality, the judgments grew no more accurate. Two people might become dear friends, yet remain ignorant about vast areas of each other’s inner lives. This seems strange, until you consider, that many of the benefits that friendship provides don’t necessarily depend on perfect familiarity; they come from something closer to reliability. Friendship may be less about being drawn to someone’s personality than about finding someone willing to keep you company, or lend an ear. A friend provides the “social-identity support” we desire. You needn’t be a close match with someone, nor deeply familiar with their mind. And once a friendship has begun, you want to like it, if only to confirm that you made the right decision. We don’t want to know everything about our friends. We don’t base friendships on what we learn about people; we decide what to learn about people, and what to ignore, based on having decided to be friends. Perhaps there’s something moving about viewing friendship as an agreement to keep each other company, ignore each other’s faults and not probe (刨根问底) too deeply in ways that might weaken the friendship. Perhaps a true friend is someone who doesn’t ask many awkward questions. 27.Why does the author tell the stories of his two friends in the first paragraph? A.To provide background information. B.To introduce the topic of the passage. C.To stress the importance of friendship. D.To show the difference between friends. 28.The underlined word “they” in Paragraph 4 refers to ______ . A.friendships B.strangers C.researchers D.benefits 29.It can be concluded from the passage that ______ . A.close friends usually know each other in depth B.real friends are people you like but don’t wish to see often C.we do not necessarily share personalities with close friends D.the longer we stay with friends, the more accurately we judge them 30.Which statement about friends will the author probably accept? A.Stay friends but keep a distance. B.It takes a long time to grow an old friend. C.Real friends will tell you when your face is dirty. D.True friends know all about you and still like you. D In our information-driven society, shaping our worldview through the media is similar to forming an opinion about someone solely based on a picture of their foot. While the media might not deliberately deceive us, it often fails to provide a comprehensive view of reality. Consequently, the question arises: Where, then, shall we get our information from if not from the media? Who can we trust? How about experts—people who devote their working lives to understanding their chosen slice of the world? However, even experts can fall prey to the allure of oversimplification, leading to the “single perspective instinct” that hampers(阻碍)our ability to grasp the intricacies of the world. Simple ideas can be appealing because they offer a sense of understanding and certainty. And it is easy to take off down a slippery slope, from one attention-grabbing simple idea to a feeling that this idea beautifully explains, or is the beautiful solution for, lots of other things. The world becomes simple that way. Yet, when we embrace a singular cause or solution for all problems, we risk oversimplifying complex issues. For instance, championing the concept of equality may lead us to view all problems through the lens of inequality and see resource distribution as the sole panacea. However, such rigidity prevents us from seeing the multidimensional nature of challenges and hinders true comprehension of reality. This “single perspective instinct” ultimately clouds our judgment and restricts our capacity to tackle complex issues effectively. It saves a lot of time to think like this. You can have opinions and answers without having to learn about a problem from scratch and you can get on with using your brain for other tasks. But it’s not so useful if you like to understand the world. Being always in favor of or always against any particular idea makes you blind to information that doesn’t fit your perspective. This is usually a bad approach if you would like to understand reality. Instead, constantly test your favorite ideas for weaknesses. Be humble about the extent of your expertise. Be curious about new information that doesn’t fit, and information from other fields. And rather than talking only to people who agree with you, or collecting examples that fit your ideas, consult people who contradict you, disagree with you, and put forward different ideas as a great resource for understanding the world. I have been wrong about the world so many times. Sometimes, coming up against reality is what helps me see my mistakes, but often it is talking to, and trying to understand, someone with different ideas. If this means you don’t have time to form so many opinions, so what? Wouldn’t you rather have few opinions that are right than many that are wrong? 31.What does the underlined word “allure” in Para.2 probably mean? A.Temptation. B.Tradition. C.Convenience. D.Consequence. 32.Why are simple ideas appealing according to the passage? A.They meet people’s demand for high efficiency. B.They generate a sense of complete understanding. C.They are raised and supported by multiple experts. D.They reflect the opinions of like-minded individuals. 33.What will the author probably agree with? A.Simplifying matters releases energy for human brains. B.Constant tests on our ideas help make up for our weakness. C.A well-founded opinion counts more than many shallow ones. D.People who disagree with us often have comprehensive views. 34.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A.Embracing Disagreement: Refusing Overcomplexity B.Simplifying Information: Enhancing Comprehension C.Understanding Differences: Establishing Relationships D.Navigating Complexity: Challenging Oversimplification Many people struggle with time management, especially when handling multiple tasks. To manage time effectively, it’s important to set priorities and develop a realistic plan that suits your needs. 35 This improves efficiency and reduces the stress of feeling overloaded. Setting clear, achievable goals is another crucial step in managing time effectively. 36 One practical way to improve these skills is by creating a daily or weekly schedule. A well-organized schedule helps you track deadlines and distribute specific time for each task. By sticking to your plan, you avoid last-minute pressure and ensure steady progress toward your goals. However, effective time management isn’t just about creating a schedule. 37 In today’s digital world, constant notifications and social media can easily distract us. Reducing time spent on these distractions can free up valuable hours each day. Setting aside blocks of uninterrupted time for focused goals can significantly boost productivity and maintain concentration. Some people find that using a timer, such as the Pomodoro Technique, helps them stay focused. 38 After each phase, you take a short break to refresh your mind. This approach helps to maintain high levels of concentration and prevents burnout. Good time management is a habit that requires patience and practice. 39 Unexpected events can occur, and being adaptable ensures that you can handle changes without losing focus. Over time, you’ll find it easier to stay organized, meet deadlines, and make the most of each day. A.Another key aspect is avoiding distractions. B.Thus, effective time management skills are essential. C.This technique involves working in 25-minute intervals. D.It’s also helpful to group tasks based on their importance. E.Many people prefer using digital tools to manage their time. F.However, it’s important to remain flexible with your plans and adapt. G.Start by identifying your most urgent tasks and focusing on them first. The Value of Failure in Success In our pursuit of success, failure often seems like an unwelcome guest. We usually view failure as something negative, something to be avoided at all costs. However, failure is an inevitable (unavoidable) part of life, and it actually holds great value in our journey towards success. Failure serves as a powerful teacher. When we fail at something, we are forced to reflect on our actions. For example, if we fail an exam, we analyze what went wrong. Maybe we didn’t study the right materials, or our time- management during the exam was poor. Through this self-reflection, we can identify our weaknesses and learn from our mistakes. This newly-found knowledge becomes a valuable asset (有利条件) (property), guiding us to make better decisions and take more effective actions in the future. Failure also builds resilience (toughness). Each time we face failure and manage to get back up, we become stronger. Take Thomas Edison as an example. He failed thousands of times before inventing the light bulb. But instead of giving up, he used each failure as a stepping-stone. His perseverance in the face of repeated failures made him one of the most influential inventors in history. Similarly, when we encounter failure in our lives, whether it’s in sports, academics, or personal relationships, bouncing back from it gives us the mental toughness to handle future challenges. Moreover, failure can change our perspective (观点). It makes us more humble and less overconfident. When we experience failure, we realize that we are not invincible and that there is always room for improvement. This new perspective allows us to approach tasks with a more open-minded and realistic attitude. It also helps us appreciate success more. After going through the hardships of failure, the taste of success becomes sweeter. In conclusion, failure is not the end but a crucial part of the path to success. It teaches us, builds our resilience, and shapes our perspective. We should embrace failure, learn from it, and use it as a springboard to achieve greater things. 40.Why is self-reflection after failure important? 41.How does failure contribute to building resilience? 42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why. Failure changes our perspective by making us more humble and more overconfident, helping us appreciate success more. 43.Though failure can be helpful, what can we do to avoid failure as much as possible? Nowadays, digital technology has greatly changed our daily lives. For example, we use mobile payment like Alipay or WeChat Pay for almost everything,  ranging from shopping to ordering food. Online learning platforms and apps also help us study more efficiently. Even public services, such as booking hospital appointments, can be done online. Any time I feel like giving up, I remember Mr. Wright’s words and push forward. I’m proud to say that I 7 my depression, and I’m now a senior. I’m still a part of chorus, and now I’m also in the best choir at my school. Mr. Wright is a hero 8 everyone he meets. A.trained pupils to be hard-working and well-disciplined B.gave pupils confidence in making use of their potential C.gave importance to what was practical or possible for pupils D.helped pupils overcome difficulties in learning 【答案】24.D 25.A 26.B 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第一段“She took me to the theatre — not just children’s theatre but adult comedies and dramas — and her faith that I could appreciate adult plays was not disappointed.(她带我去看戏——不只是儿童剧,还有成人喜剧和戏剧——她相信我能欣赏成人戏剧,我没有让她失望。)” 根据第三段“Most important, perhaps, Aunt Myrtle provided my first opportunity to write for publication. A writer herself for one of the black newspapers, she suggested my name to the editor as a “youth columnist”. (也许最重要的是,Aunt Myrtle给了我第一个写作出版的机会。她自己也是一家黑人报纸的作家,她向编辑推荐我,让我当“青年专栏作家”。)”可知,Aunt Myrtle把作者推荐给一位报纸编辑,主要是为了培养她的写作能力。故选A项。 26. 根据第一段“During my childhood and youth, Aunt Myrtle encouraged me to develop every aspect of my potential, without regard for what was considered practical or possible for black females.(在我的童年和青年时期,Aunt Myrtle鼓励我发展自己潜力的各个方面,而不考虑黑人女性认为实际或可能的东西。)”和最后一段“Like a diamond, she has reflected a bright, multifaceted (多面的) image of possibilities to every pupil who has crossed her path.(她就像一颗钻石,为每一个经过她身边的学生折射出光明、多彩、充满可能的形象。)” C Do we really know our best friends? 根据第一段“I like my close friends a lot, and yet, on an almost daily basis, they shocked me. I have a friend who thinks voting is a waste of time; I have another friend who never takes any arrangement to meet at a given time and place seriously.(我非常喜欢我的好朋友,然而,他们几乎每天都让我震惊。我有一个朋友认为投票是浪费时间;我还有一个朋友从不认真对待任何约定在特定时间和地点见面的安排。)”可知,作者在第一段中讲述了他两个朋友的故事,是为了引出文章的主题。故选B。 28.词句猜测题。根据第四段“This seems strange, until you consider, that many of the benefits that friendship provides don’t necessarily depend on perfect familiarity; they come from something closer to reliability.(这看起来很奇怪,直到你考虑到,友谊提供的许多好处并不一定依赖于完美的熟悉;它们来自更接近可靠的东西。)” 根据第三段“The truth is that we don’t know our friends. Numerous studies show that we tend to assume our friends agree with us more than they really do. The striking part is that the problem doesn’t appear to lessen as a friendship deepens.(事实是我们并不了解我们的朋友。大量的研究表明,我们倾向于认为我们的朋友比实际情况更同意我们的观点。最引人注目的是,这个问题并不会随着友谊的加深而减少。)”和“Two people might become dear friends, yet remain ignorant about vast areas of each other’s inner lives.(两个人可能会成为亲密的朋友,但对彼此内心生活的广阔领域仍然一无所知。)” 根据最后一段“Perhaps there’s something moving about viewing friendship as an agreement to keep each other company, ignore each other’s faults and not probe (刨根问底) too deeply in ways that might weaken the friendship.(也许把友谊看作是一种互相陪伴、忽略彼此缺点、不深入探究可能削弱友谊的方式,这有些令人感动。)” A。 D In our information-driven society, shaping our worldview through the media is similar to forming an opinion about someone solely based on a picture of their foot. A.Embracing Disagreement: Refusing Overcomplexity B.Simplifying Information: Enhancing Comprehension C.Understanding Differences: Establishing Relationships D.Navigating Complexity: Challenging Oversimplification 【答案】31.A 32.B 33.C 34.D 【导语】本文是说明文。 根据第二段“However, even experts can fall prey to the allure of oversimplification, leading to the “single perspective instinct” that hampers(阻碍)our ability to grasp the intricacies of the world. (然而,即使是专家也会受到过度简化的allure,导致“单一视角本能”, 阻碍我们掌握世界的复杂性。)”可知,导致了单一视觉,不能掌握世界的复杂性,因此推断受到了过度简化的诱惑,allure在这里指的是“诱惑”。故选A。 32. 根据第三段的“Simple ideas can be appealing because they offer a sense of understanding and certainty. (简单的想法可能很有吸引力,因为它们提供了一种理解和确定性。)”可知,简单的想法具有吸引力是因为它们产生一种完全理解的感觉。故选B。 33.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Instead, constantly test your favorite ideas for weaknesses. Be humble about the extent of your expertise. Be curious about new information that doesn’t fit, and information from other fields. And rather than talking only to people who agree with you, or collecting examples that fit your ideas, consult people who contradict you, disagree with you, and put forward different ideas as a great resource for understanding the world.(相反,要不断测试你最喜欢的想法的弱点。 根据第一段内容“In our information-driven society, shaping our worldview through the media is similar to forming an opinion about someone solely based on a picture of their foot. While the media might not deliberately deceive us, it often fails to provide a comprehensive view of reality.( 在信息驱动的社会中,通过媒体塑造我们的世界观就像仅仅根据一个人的脚的照片来形成对他们的看法一样,但它经常无法提供全面的现实视角。)”,第二段的“However, even experts can fall prey to the allure of oversimplification, leading to the “single perspective instinct” that hampers(阻碍)our ability to grasp the intricacies of the world.(然而,即使是专家也会受到过度简化的诱惑,导致“单一视角本能”,阻碍我们掌握世界的复杂性。)”以及倒数第三的“And rather than talking only to people who agree with you, or collecting examples that fit your ideas, consult people who contradict you, disagree with you, and put forward different ideas as a great resource for understanding the world. Many people struggle with time management, especially when handling multiple tasks. 43.Though failure can be helpful, what can we do to pen-mindedo avoid failure as much as possible? (In about 40 words.) 40.Self-reflection after failure is important because it enables us to identify our weaknesses and learn from mistakes, which helps us make better decisions and take more effective actions in the future. 41.Failure contributes to building resilience by making us stronger each time we face it and manage to recover, and it gives us the mental toughness to deal with future challenges. 42.Failure changes our perspective by making us more humble and more overconfident, helping us appreciate success more. According to the passage ,Failure changes our perspective by making us more humble and less overconfident, allowing us to approach tasks with a more open-minded and realistic attitude, and helping us appreciate success more. 43.To avoid failure ,we can set clear goals to track progress, and learn from past experiences to prevent repeating mistakes. Additionally, keeping improving our abilities can also handle challenges effectively .These steps help build confidence, reduce setbacks and grow steady to success. 根据文章第二段“Through this self-reflection, we can identify our weaknesses and learn from our mistakes. This newly-found knowledge becomes a valuable asset, guiding us to make better decisions and take more effective actions in the future.”(通过这种自我反思,我们可以发现自己的弱点,并从错误中学习。 Self-reflection after failure is important because it enables us to identify our weaknesses and learn from mistakes, which helps us make better decisions and take more effective actions in the future. 41. Each time we face failure and manage to get back up, we become stronger.(失败也能培养韧性。 ”以及“Similarly, when we encounter failure in our lives, whether it’s in sports, academics, or personal relationships, bouncing back from it gives us the mental toughness to handle future challenges.(同样,当我们在生活中遇到失败时,无论是在体育、学术还是个人关系中,从失败中恢复过来都会给我们应对未来挑战的精神韧性。)” Failure contributes to building resilience by making us stronger each time we face it and manage to recover, and it gives us the mental toughness to deal with future challenges. 42. 首先,根据文章第四段“Moreover, failure can change our perspective. It makes us more humble and less overconfident.(而且,失败能够改变我们的视角。 根据倒数第二段中“When we experience failure, we realize that we are not invincible and that there is always room for improvement. This new perspective allows us to approach tasks with a more open-minded and realistic attitude. It also helps us appreciate success more. After going through the hardships of failure, the taste of success becomes sweeter.(当我们经历失败时,我们意识到我们不是不可战胜的,总是有改进的空间。 Failure changes our perspective by making us more humble and less overconfident, allowing us to approach tasks with a more open-minded and realistic attitude, and helping us appreciate success more。 Failure changes our perspective by making us more humble and more overconfident, helping us appreciate success more. According to the passage, Failure changes our perspective by making us more humble and less overconfident, allowing us to approach tasks with a more open-minded and realistic attitude, and helping us appreciate success more. 43. To avoid failure ,we can set clear goals to track progress, and learn from past experiences to prevent repeating mistakes. Additionally, keeping improving our abilities can also handle challenges effectively .These steps help build confidence, reduce setbacks and grow steady to success. Dear Jim, ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Jim, I’m glad to hear that you’re interested in China’s digital life.
