Since birth, Marley has been deeply involved in the world of social activism, surrounded by a village of caring, concerned, active adults and children dedicated to service to humanity. When she was 5 years old, her mother, Dr Janice Johnson Dias, co-founded the GrassROOTS Community Foundation(GCF), a public health and social action organization dedicated to the support and authority of people who live in poor communities. Her father, Scott Dias, is a real estate analytical geographer. Both of them have been instrumental in developing Marley’s understanding of key social justice issues and commitment to social change. When she became disappointed by a lack of black female role models in her school books — and her mother asked her what she was going to do about it — she knew exactly how to respond. With the help of GCF, Marley launched the #1000BlackGirlBooks drive in November 2015, using the power of social media to reach a large audience. The goal was to collect 1, 000 books featuring black female protagonists (主人公). The story became popular and was picked up by media outlets around the world as well as bloggers, schools, youth-focused organizations and thousands of individuals who wanted to participate in the project. Having collected over 8,000 books, Marley went beyond her original goals. Later, Marley and GCF donated the majority of the books to Retreat School in the Parish of Saint Mary, Jamaica, where her mother grew up. The remaining books went to local elementary schools, including The Henry C. Lea School in Philadelphia, Speedway Academies in Newark, New Jersey and St. Cloud Elementary in West Orange, New Jersey, where she was first inspired to launch the movement. Marley is using her voice to advocate social justice, a commitment reflected by her ambitious life goals: she dreams of founding and editing her own magazine, and plans to use media to promote positive messages and sustain more socially conscious pop culture. 4. What influenced Marley’s later life choice? A. Her village’s tradition. B. Her parents’ expectations. C. Her growing environment. D. Her receiving unfair treatment. 5. Why did Marley found #1000BlackGirlBooks? A. To develop GCF. B. To attract media attention. C. To deal with the shortage of school books. D. To let students know more black female models. 6. What was the public’s attitude to Marley’s initiative? A. Worried. B. Supportive. C. Uninterested. D. Doubtful. 7. What would be the best title for the text? A. A Creative Writer B. A Promising Editor C. A Passionate Book Lover D. A Driven Social Change-Maker C Last December, researchers at the National Ignition Facility(NIF)had made a breakthrough in fusion (核聚变)energy, the same chemical process that powers the stars and our sun. They had succeeded in producing the first laboratory fusion reaction that produces more energy than it takes to cause the reaction. It made headlines around the world. At extremely high temperatures and pressure, the atoms break into their components — nuclei (原子核) and electrons. This kind of positive nuclei and negative electrons is referred to as plasma It is considered the fourth state of matter, the other three being solid, liquid and gas. Fusion is a process that takes place in the plasma state. The process of fusion produces a huge amount of energy which, in turn, causes further fusion reactions. Our sun is incredibly efficient in producing fusion energy; its huge mass creates the pressure and temperatures needed to keep the reaction going. Earth can’t recreate the high pressure and temperature conditions of the sun, so scientists must find techniques in laboratories to start the reaction. The NIF experiment successfully proved that fusion isn’t just a theoretical concept: we are able to create an energy source that is self-sustaining. Fusion also has the advantage — it does not cause radioactive waste. However, despite billions of dollars of government funding put into fusion research, we are still decades away from fusion-produced electricity. Humans have produced fusion reactions in the past, with nuclear bombs. But in bombs, the energy is released too quickly. Scientists will need to figure out how to release energy in a controlled and consistent manner for regular use. Even if we can overcome challenges in the development, will fusion be able to compete with solar and wind power for cost and availability? The future of fusion may not be clear at the moment, but it is truly brilliant for science and society to see the power of the sun come to life in a lab setting. 8. What facts have we learned about the first laboratory fusion reaction? A. It was a big success. B. It escaped public attention. C. It produced less energy than expected. D. It introduced the fourth state of matter. 9. What is a big advantage of fusion energy? A. It depends on the sun. B. It can be clean energy. C. It is an unexpected energy source. D. It works under normal conditions. 10 What can be implied about producing fusion energy in paragraph 5? A. It faces some challenges now. B. It isn’t supported by governments. C. It may cause very dangerous consequences. D. It cannot compete with solar and wind power. 11. Which statement would the author most likely agree with? A. The future of fusion is clear and bright. B. Fusion energy will be the main energy one day. C. The present achievements in fusion energy are remarkable. D. The experimental techniques are essential to producing fusion energy. D Although daydreaming is often seen as an enjoyable escape from the dull, tough or repetitive aspects of everyday life, the act of “pleasurable thinking” is more challenging and less satisfying than many people might think, according to a growing body of research. Years ago, Nicholas Buttrick and his team conducted a study. The researchers asked, “Which is more enjoyable: trying to think enjoyable thoughts or doing daily individual activities?” They found that of the 2,557 participants from 12 sites in 11 countries, most people, across cultures, enjoyed engaging in individual activities more than thinking freely and entertaining themselves with their thoughts as best they could. “Participants randomly assigned to do something reported significantly greater gratification than that of participants randomly assigned to think for pleasure, and the results were consistent in every country,” Buttrick concluded. Recently, a follow-up study led by Erin Westgate, a psychology professor at the University of Florida, investigated why so many people do not choose to think for pleasure, and when directed to do so, struggle to concentrate successfully. The researchers started by providing participants with specific examples of meaningful topics and then instructed them to think “meaningful” thoughts. Surprisingly, they discovered that asking people to think meaningful thoughts actually made daydreaming much less enjoyable than freely thinking about unguided thoughts. “I was so confused,” Westgate said. But after analyzing which meaningful topics participants reported thinking about when asked to think about something meaningful, she realized that “they were heavy stuff”. Westgate wants to help people recapture that daydream state, which may boost wellness. Although improving daydream states can be difficult, she recommends priming (指引) the brain to think about topics that are both enjoyable and meaningful. “It’s something that sets us apart. Thinking for pleasure allows us to imagine new realities,” Westgate said. “But that kind of thinking requires practice. As you build your ability to daydream, you’ll have a source of enjoyable thoughts during stressful times. The next time you’re walking, instead of pulling out your phone, try it.” 12. What is the common understanding of “pleasurable thinking” among people? A. It is a form of relaxation. B. It is a usual daily practice. C. It is a sign of wasting time. D. It is a hard but rewarding activity. 13. What is the closest meaning to the underlined word “gratification” in paragraph 2? A. Success. B. Boredom. C. Hesitation. D. Enjoyment. 14. Which of the following made Westgate puzzled? A. The research methods. B. The joy levels of the participants. C. The participants’ choice of meaningful topics. D The lack of a clear definition of “meaningful thoughts”. 15. What advice does Westgate give to people? A. Focusing on new realities. B. Engaging in physical exercise. C. Keeping daydreaming during tough times. D. Daydreaming on both pleasant and significant subjects. How to Prepare for College Life After Gaokao Graduating from high school marks a significant change. I grabbed my backpack and headed to the library for my favorite after-school activity: Writing Club. Miss Lisa, our leader, said we’d exchange stories with partners and give suggestions to improve them. The best story would be shared next week. My partner was Penny, who always got perfect scores on spelling and grammar tests. We sat across from each other at a table. Then I handed her my creative but error-filled draft. Penny looked worried as she gave me her story. I read her story and it was perfect! I had no suggestions. She didn’t even look at me when she returned my story. Why was she so nervous? When class ended, Penny looked relieved. She jumped up and grabbed her backpack. Everything fell out. She shoved (乱塞) her stuff back in and hurried out of the library. I noticed a book under the table. It must have fallen out of Penny’s bag. I flipped through the book. It was just like Penny’s story. It was longer but the plot was exactly the same. I couldn’t believe it. Penny had copied this idea! It wasn’t fair. I got really annoyed. Outside the school, I spotted Penny sitting on a bench and I walked over. “You dropped this,” I said, holding out the book and raising my eyebrows at her. Penny’s shoulders were slumped (耷拉着). She sniffed and wiped her nose on her sleeve. She took the book and ran away. I froze there, not knowing what to do. I realized I shouldn’t have made her feel bad. I kept thinking about Penny as I walked home. I decided to ask my parents for advice. At home, I found my parents were cooking in the kitchen. Dad chopped vegetables into perfect shapes, while Mom added adventurous flavors. Their dinners turned out delicious. That gave me an idea: Penny and I could combine her technical skills with my creativity, just like the kitchen teamwork. The next morning at school, I found Penny and told her my idea. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ At Writing Club next week, Penny read our combined story aloud. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 达州市普通高中2025届第二次诊断性测试 英语试题 (本试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? A Driven Social Change-Maker 【答案】4. C 5. D 6. B 7. A It was a big success. B. It escaped public attention. C. It produced less energy than expected. D. It introduced the fourth state of matter. 9. What is a big advantage of fusion energy? A. It depends on the sun. B. It can be clean energy. C. It is an unexpected energy source. D. It works under normal conditions. 10. What can be implied about producing fusion energy in paragraph 5? 8. A 9. B 10. D. The lack of a clear definition of “meaningful thoughts”. 15. What advice does Westgate give to people? A. Focusing on new realities. B. Engaging in physical exercise. C. Keeping daydreaming during tough times. D. Daydreaming on both pleasant and significant subjects. 12. A 13. D 14. B 15. I grabbed my backpack and headed to the library for my favorite after-school activity: Writing Club. Miss Lisa our leader, said we’d exchange stories with partners and give suggestions to improve them. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The next morning at school, I found Penny and told her my idea. Seeing her anxious expression, I gently explained how her grammar skills could polish my creative plot, just like my parents’ teamwork in cooking. Penny hesitated, tears welling up, “But I… copied the story.” I smiled, “Let’s rewrite it together—your structure, my ideas.” She finally nodded, whispering, “Thank you for not hating me.” We spent lunchtime brainstorming, blending her precise sentences with my wild imagination. Gradually, Penny relaxed, even suggesting twists I’d never considered. At Writing Club next week, Penny read our combined story aloud. Her voice trembled at first but grew confident as classmates leaned forward, captivated. Miss Lisa’s eyes sparkled, praising the seamless mix of creativity and technical excellence. When Penny finished, applause erupted. She glanced at me, cheeks pink with pride. Miss Lisa announced, “This collaboration proves teamwork creates magic!” Penny later confessed she’d feared failure but now loved writing. We became real partners, balancing each other’s strengths—and our story won first place. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解释:explain/clarify ②建议:suggest/propose ③承认:confess/admit 情绪类 ①焦虑的:anxious/nervous ②害怕:fear/dread 【点睛】[高分句型1]Seeing her anxious expression, I gently explained how her grammar skills could polish my creative plot, just like my parents’ teamwork in cooking.(how引导的宾语从句和现在分词作状语) [高分句型2]When Penny finished, applause erupted.(when引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
