The Million Pound Bank Note
ACT 2, SCENE 2
Narrator: Henry is walking down the street when he sees a sign for a place that cuts hair. He decides to have it cut.
Henry: Good afternoon, I’d like to have my hair cut, if I may. (The barber looks at Henry’s hair and continues cutting another man’s hair. ) Er, I’d really like a haircut. As you can see it’s much too long.
Barber: (in a rude manner) Yes, I can see that. Indeed, I can.
Henry: Fine, well, I’ll have a seat then. (He sits in one of the barber’s chairs. The barber turns to look at Henry. )
Barber: It’s quite expensive here, you know! Are you sure you can afford it?
Henry: Yes. I think so.
Narrator: After his hair is cut, the barber tells Henry how much he must pay. Henry shows the barber the bank note.
Barber: Why Mr. . . (looks shocked)
Henry: Adams. Henry Adams. I’m sorry. I don’t have any change.
Barber: Please don’t worry! (wearing a big smile) Nothing to worry about! Nothing at all! Please come back whenever you want, even if you only have too little hair to cut! It will be my honor to serve you!

The Transformation of Attitude
Narrator: Inside the Shoe Store (Li Ming, dressed in tattered clothes, steps into the shoe store with some hesitation.)
Shop Assistant: (Sees Li Ming, frowns slightly, tone indifferent) Can I help you?
Li Ming: (Voice low) Yes... I want to look at your shoes.
SA: (Follows Li Ming, keeping a distance, tone still indifferent) These are all our latest models. If you just want to look, please don’t touch them to avoid damaging them.
LM: (Stops, tries to smile) I actually... do have the intention to buy. Could you show me this pair? (Li Ming points to a simple black shoe.)
SA: (Still somewhat impatient) This pair?
LM: (Nods, face showing gratitude) Thank you, I’ll try it on.
LM: (Feels satisfied) This shoe is very comfortable. I’ll take it.
SA: (still somewhat dismissive) OK, please come to the cash register to pay.
LM: (Hands the check to the shop assistant) Here’s the payment.(The shop assistant takes the check, then suddenly freezes, eyes widening in shock.)
SA: (Stammers, voice trembling) This... this is a million-dollar check! You... how could you...
LM: (Smiles slightly, tone calm) Is there a problem?
SA: (Quickly changes his demeanor, bows deeply, excessively respectful) No, no problem at all! Right away, I will personally handle this for you. Please wait a moment.
Narrator: (The shop assistant completes the transaction, hands over the receipt and packaged shoes to Li Ming with both hands, face full of respect and apology.)
SA: (Voice trembling) Sir, thank you for your patronage. I am truly sorry for my previous behavior. Please forgive me.
LM: (Takes the receipt and shoes, smiles slightly without saying much) It’s okay, everyone makes mistakes. I hope you learn from this experience.
