However, many study abroad programs in Madrid offer options of attending English-language schools. Also, when you’re in Madrid, you may take advantage of many high-quality Spanish-language programs available to help you learn the language, and you’ll soon get involved.

The rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center of Madrid costs about $650 per month. The rent for a three-bedroom apartment in the city center costs approximately $1,200. If you’re willing to live outside the city center, you can expect to pay approximately $450 to $850 for a one — or three-bedroom apartment respectively (分别地).

根据第一段中“When you choose to study abroad in Madrid, please read below to learn more.(当您选择在马德里留学时,请阅读以下内容以了解更多信息)”可知,这篇文章是写给那些想去马德里留学外国学生的。
根据最后一段中“You need to pay three months’ rent in advance plus a deposit of $200 for the first time. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center of Madrid costs about $650 per month. (你需要预付三个月的房租,外加200美元的首次订金。在马德里市中心,一间一居室的租金大约是每月650美元)”可知,在马德里市中心租一套一居室的公寓需要支付650*3+200=2150元。故选D。
【3题详解】

B
I never thought I'd hear myself say it, but I've grown to enjoy lifting weights, and I've learned from doing it. I enjoy the sense of strength and discipline that comes when the muscles are forced to resist. I've tried varying schedules — lifting every day, every other day, two days on and a day off. The every day approach was the least effective. I get the best strengthening results when I give myself a break.
The same is true with mind and spirit. Without giving yourself a chance to reenergize, you begin to break down all the connective fibers of your life. I used to just give myself Sundays off. Now I'm scheduling downtime in the midst of everything — and “everything” includes two magazines, building a house in Hawaii, working on an ABC movie — and, oh yeah, my day job. Keeping it all straight was beginning to feel a little stressful. So I told myself that just because I have ten free minutes on my calendar doesn't mean I want to fill them. Breathing space has to become part of my daily routine.
So instead of having people lined up outside my office after the first show — I tape two a day — I do nothing for at least ten minutes. The change has worked wonders. I have more energy, and I'm in a better mood for the second show and all the business that comes afterward.
Now that I have the summer off to sit under the trees reading, napping, writing, and thinking , I know for sure it’s time well spent. I’m refilling my tank so that by fall, when the new season begins, I'll be fired up and ready for whatever is to come. Fully restored.
4. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A. To arouse the readers' concern.
B. To summarize the whole passage.
C. To state the importance of a good lifestyle.
D. To introduce the theme of the whole passage.
5. Which of the following does the author agree with?
A. Keeping everything straight. B. Resting at any time.
C. Taking breaks between tasks. D. Having a full schedule.
6. What does the underlined “it” in Para.2 refer to?
A. Everything. B. Building a house.
C. My day job. D. Working on a movie.
7. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Lifting weights changes peopled life.
B. A little restoration helps go a long way.
C. Why people need to be in high spirits.
D. Ten minutes' break will work wonders.
D 5. C 6. A 7. D
根据第一段中“I've tried varying schedules — lifting every day, every other day, two days on and a day off. The every day approach was the least effective. I get the best strengthening results when I give myself a break.(我尝试过改变作息时间——每天放松、每隔一天放松、上两天放松、休息一天放松。每天锻炼的方法效果最差。当我让自己休息一下时,我得到了最好的强化效果)”和第二段第一句“The same is true with mind and spirit.(头脑和精神也是如此)”可知,第一段的作用是“为了介绍整篇文章的主题”。故选D。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Without giving yourself a chance to reenergize, you begin to break down all the connective fibers of your life.(如果不给自己重新充电的机会,你就会开始破坏生活中所有的连接纤维)”可知,作者会同意“在工作之间休息。”
根据第二段中“Now I'm scheduling downtime in the midst of everything — and “everything” includes two magazines, building a house in Hawaii, working on an ABC movie — and, oh yeah, my day job. Keeping it all straight was beginning to feel a little stressful.(现在,我要在所有事情中间安排休息时间——“所有事情”包括两本杂志,在夏威夷盖房子,为ABC的一部电影工作——哦,对了,还有我的日常工作。我开始觉得把事情搞清楚有点压力)”可推知,划线词it指代的是上文中的everything。故选A。
根据第一段最后一句“I get the best strengthening results when I give myself a break.(当我让自己休息一下时,我得到了最好的强化效果)”和第三段“So instead of having people lined up outside my office after the first show — I tape two a day — I do nothing for at least ten minutes. The change has worked wonders. I have more energy, and I'm in a better mood for the second show and all the business that comes afterward.(所以在第一次演出后,人们在我的办公室外排队——我每天录两盘——我至少有十分钟什么都不做。这种改变创造了奇迹。我有了更多的精力,对于第二场演出和之后的所有业务,我也有了更好的心情)”可知,这篇文章讲述的是“十分钟的休息会创造奇迹”。故选D。
C
With the sudden breakthroughs in artificial intelligence over the last year, a sudden realization has come for those of us in the writing circle that the robots have come for our jobs at last. Recently, Hollywood writers went on a strike over concerns about being replaced. It ended in a modest victory, but it seemed like a losing battle, like the 18th-century craftsmen trying to stop new machines but in vain.
The replacement of physical labour by machines was often beneficial in itself, even if it did not feel that way at the time. In all previous waves of technological change, the jobs lost have been made up for by the jobs created, usually better ones. Can the same be said when it comes to writing? Language is hard-wired into us, which is the property of human. Writing is how we do our best thinking, as Joan Didion observed, “I don’t know what I think until I write it down”, and thinking is what makes us human. What happens when we no longer rely on our own thoughts to address more complex problems?
Probably it won’t come to that, or not yet. I remember when we said the same thing about computers playing chess, the technology is still in its early stage. In a few years, we may no longer be able to tell the difference. What then?
Most likely the first writing to be replaced will be patterned writing like business and promotional writings. It may be that writers will take on a role similar to today’s artisans and craftsmen, pride for their “handmade” honour. The best writing may be produced neither entirely by computer nor by humans, but by the two combined. For however it is produced, some writing will always be better than other writing. Who says? You, the reader. It may be possible to teach a computer to write, but only a human can feel the pleasure of reading, or the pain.
8. What was the main concern of Hollywood writers?
A. The increase in working hours. B. The use of AI in writing rooms.
C. The decrease in salaries for them. D. The lack of full control over work.
9. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. We are born with language. B. Language is hard to replace.
C. Language is difficult to change. D. We benefit from language.
10. What might be the first type of writing to be replaced by AI?
A. Creative fiction writing. B. Scientific research paper.
C. Advertisement and brochure. D. Children literature and poetry.
11. What would be the best title of the text?
A. Can AI redefine human’s future? B. Will the pen be mightier than AI?
C. Is AI a threat to human creativity? D. Will literature be dead due to AI?
B 9. A 10. C 11. B
根据第一段“Recently, Hollywood writers went on a strike over concerns about being replaced. It ended in a modest victory, but it seemed like a losing battle, like the 18th-century craftsmen trying to stop new machines but in vain.(最近,好莱坞作家因担心被取代而举行了罢工。这场战争以温和的胜利告终,但似乎是一场必败之战,就像18世纪的工匠们试图阻止新机器的出现,但却徒劳无功)”可知,好莱坞作家们抗议的主要原因是他们担心自己的工作被AI取代。故选B项。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据后文“which is the property of human(这是人类的属性)”可知,语言是人类的固有属性,推知 hard-wired的意思是“天生的,固有的”,与之意义最接近的是“be born with”, 意思是“与生俱来的”。故选A。
根据最后一段“Most likely the first writing to be replaced will be patterned writing like business and promotional writings.(最有可能被取代的第一批文字将是商业和宣传类的模式化文字)”可知,最有可能首先被AI 取代的写作类型是那些模式化的写作,如商务促销类写作。“广告和宣传册”这类写作通常结构固定,规则性强,目的是为了促销推广,因此更容易被AI模仿和取代。故选C。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“With the sudden breakthroughs in artificial intelligence over the last year, a sudden realization has come for those of us in the writing circle that the robots have come for our jobs at last. Recently, Hollywood writers went on a strike over concerns about being replaced. It ended in a modest victory, but it seemed like a losing battle, like the 18th-century craftsmen trying to stop new machines but in vain.(随着去年人工智能的突然突破,我们这些写作圈的人突然意识到,机器人终于来抢我们的工作了。最近,好莱坞作家因担心被取代而举行了罢工。这场战争以温和的胜利告终,但似乎是一场必败之战,就像18世纪的工匠们试图阻止新机器的出现,但却徒劳无功)”以及通读全文可知,本文主要讨论了人工智能在写作领域的进步以及对作家职业的潜在威胁,探讨了技术进步如何影响工作,所以B项“Will the pen be mightier than AI?(笔会比人工智能更强大吗?)”是本文最佳标题。故选B项。
D
When Adele released (发行) her 2011 single Someone Like You, this bittersweet song is popular with millions worldwide. More than a decade later, it remains one of her most popular songs. Her artistry, as well as that of many others who have mastered the art of making listeners feel moved with slow and emotional beats, has a way of managing the emotional pain of heartbreak and loss.
Listening to favorite songs could also reduce people’s feelings of pain, according to a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Pain Research. And the most effective pain relievers were found to be sad songs detailing bittersweet and emotional experiences.
“It doesn’t take the place of medicine when you have a headache, but music can help reduce your pain,” said Patrick Stroman, a professor at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He didn’t join in the study. “Unlike other medications,” he noted, “there is no side effect or risk in listening to music (just keep the volume at a reasonable level).”
The small study invited 63 young adults to bring one of their favorite songs. The researchers also had the young adults pick one of seven songs that the team considered relaxing and were unfamiliar to the study participants. All the while, the researchers stuck a hot object — similar to the pain of a boiling hot teacup on the participants’ skin — to their left inner forearms. When rating their experiences, people were more likely to report feeling less pain when listening to their favorite songs compared with hearing the unfamiliar relaxing songs.
With millions of songs available, one person’s favorite song is likely not the same as another. After interviewing the participants about the song they brought and their rating of pain, the researchers found people who listened to bittersweet and moving songs felt less pain than when they listened to songs with calming or cheerful themes (主题).
“It’s a very cool result,” said lead study author Darius Valevicius, a doctoral student of neurosciences at the University of Montreal. “I think it’s why I myself and probably many people choose to listen to bittersweet or even spiritual music.”
12. Why does the author mention Adele in the first paragraph?
A. To reach a conclusion. B. To lead in the topic.
C. To offer a suggestion. D. To provide the background.
13. What is Stroman’s attitude to the effect of listening to music?
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Unclear. D. Unconcerned.
14. What did the participants do in the new study?
A. They reported their feelings of pain. B. They interviewed many musicians.
C. They made various kinds of teacups. D. They picked out the music they don't like.
15. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. When Is the Best Time to Listen to Music?
B. How Do You Create Popular Songs Quickly?
C. The Best Way to Reduce Pain Might Be to Write Music
D. Certain Types of Music Could Help You Feel Less Pain
B 13. B 14. A 15. D
根据第一段“When Adele released (发行) her 2011 single Someone Like You, this bittersweet song is popular with millions worldwide. More than a decade later, it remains one of her most popular songs. Her artistry, as well as that of many others who have mastered the art of making listeners feel moved with slow and emotional beats, has a way of managing the emotional pain of heartbreak and loss.(当阿黛尔在2011年发行单曲《Someone Like You》时,这首苦乐参半的歌曲受到了全球数百万人的欢迎。十多年后,这首歌仍然是她最受欢迎的歌曲之一。她的艺术,以及其他许多掌握了用缓慢而情绪化的节奏让听众感到感动的艺术的人,有一种管理心碎和失去的情感痛苦的方法。)”可推断,作者在第一段提到Adele是为了引出话题,说明她的音乐能够引起听众的情感共鸣,并引出音乐对减轻疼痛的研究。故选B项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段““It doesn’t take the place of medicine when you have a headache, but music can help reduce your pain,” said Patrick Stroman, a professor at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He didn’t join in the study. “Unlike other medications,” he noted, “there is no side effect or risk in listening to music (just keep the volume at a reasonable level).(当你头痛时,音乐不能代替药物,但音乐可以帮助减轻你的疼痛,”安大略省金斯敦皇后大学的教授帕特里克·斯特罗斯曼说。他没有参加这项研究。“与其他药物不同,”他指出,“听音乐没有副作用或风险(只需将音量保持在合理的水平)。”)”可知,Stroman对于听音乐减轻痛苦的效果持“肯定的”态度。故选B项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“When rating their experiences, people were more likely to report feeling less pain when listening to their favorite songs compared with hearing the unfamiliar relaxing songs.(在评价他们的体验时,与听不熟悉的放松歌曲相比,人们更有可能在听自己喜欢的歌曲时感到更少的痛苦)”可知,研究的参与者会在实验中报告他们对于痛苦的感受。故选A项。
根据第二段“Listening to favorite songs could also reduce people’s feelings of pain, according to a new study published in the journal Frontiers in Pain Research. And the most effective pain relievers were found to be sad songs detailing bittersweet and emotional experiences.(根据发表在《疼痛研究前沿》杂志上的一项新研究,听喜欢的歌曲也可以减少人们的疼痛感。研究发现,最有效的止痛药是描述苦乐参半和情感经历的悲伤歌曲。)”可知,某些类型的音乐能够帮助你减轻痛苦。故短文的标题为“某些类型的音乐可以帮助你减轻疼痛”。故选D项。

Sadie looked out of the window and sighed as she thought about another long, boring day of summer. She wondered what all of her friends from school were doing on their summer vacations. It had to be a lot better than looking out of a window. Sadie thought about the fun she had last summer when she and her best friend Allison went to the beach. But they wouldn’t be going to the beach together this summer because Allison had moved to a different city.
Suddenly, Sadie had an idea. She could call her friend Wendy, who always had funny ideas. Sadie raced to the living room, picked up the phone, and called Wendy. She sighed more deeply as the phone rang and rang. Then Sadie seated herself on the sofa, picked up the television remote, and put it down again. Then she went to her room and found the list of phone numbers of her good friends from school. In the living room, she called almost each of them, but no one was at home.
After hanging up the phone, Sadie wandered into the kitchen and sat down at the table, watching her mom do the cleaning. “Mom, I don’t have anyone to hang out with because my friends from school aren’t home and Allison moved away, ” said Sadie. “Honey, there are many things you can do by yourself, like playing your guitar or having a walk in the garden.” said Mom.
“I don’t want to do those things by myself.” “Sometimes, it is nice to do things by yourself,” said Mom. “I like seeing my friends, but I also like doing things alone like taking a walk by myself or finding a quiet place to read. Why not have a try?”

Sadie thought about her mom’s words and returned to her room. Considering for a while, she took the story she started last month from her desk drawer and began to write. Some scenes she took down were so interesting that she laughed out loud. When she stopped and looked at the clock, she found she had been writing for 30 minutes. Sadie decided to go outside for a breath of fresh air. With her mom’s permission, she got on her bike and rode slowly down the sidewalk. It felt great! Much to her surprise, scenery along the path was breathtaking, which used to escape her notice when she hung out with friends.
As she rode back home, Sadie ran toward her mom excitedly. “Did you find someone to play with " outside?” Mom asked. “No, I took your advice. I rode my bike by myself. ”“Wendy called back while you were outside, asking you to go swimming tonight. You will have a happy evening, ”Sadie’s mom said. “Well, I think I will finish my story instead. I can go swimming with her another day, ”Sadie said with a wink. “And it’s indeed very different and surprising to do things alone. ”

I have more energy and I'm in a better mood for the second show and all the business that comes afterward.
A Creative fiction writing.
A Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Unclear.
D Certain Types of Music Could Help You Feel Less Pain
