B At this time of year, thousands of British tourists are heading to the Austrian ski slopes (斜坡), attracted not just by the snow tracks but also by the pretty villages, great food and drink, and the kid-friendly hotel. Puzzling, then, a recent survey by InterNations on Expat-Friendly Places has put Austria the worst country in the world (well, out of 53 countries) for “local friendliness”. As a frequent visitor to Austria, I must admit being puzzled. I’ve had many experiences there, but none that I would call the least bit unfriendly. Take my most recent trip there last weekend for example. Vienna in winter is beautiful and, if you’re lucky, you may have some snow — despite which, the transport systems such as buses and subways continue to work well. Food markets here open early and I began at the most famous, the Naschmarkt, with its two main streets, one for restaurants, the other for food stalls (摊位). But instead of the expected rude traders, I was surrounded by encouraging smiles! So far, so friendly. So, if Austrians are funny, how can they also be unfriendly? This is the place, after all, where they invented a best-selling chocolate known as Mozart balls (after their most outstanding composer), ballet for horses (at Vienna’s Spanish Riding School), and the favourite night-time snack of sausages. Did I say formal? That is, perhaps, at the root of the misunderstanding. Austrians like going to balls and wearing their traditional clothes. They are super polite and helpful to lost tourists. That’s not to say you can’t anger an Austrian. For example, being late is not to be tolerated. My theory is that you get the best of the two countries closest to them: Everything works (as in Germany) and they like to have fun (as in Italy). And I’m not alone in my assessment. According to the Global Liveability Index, Vienna is the best city to live in on the planet and it has worn that particular crown for the past 10 years. Perhaps, on this occasion, the statistics have rather missed the point. 24.Why are British tourists mentioned in paragraph 1? A.To confirm they are the friendliest tourists. B.To interest us with a puzzling contrast. C.To introduce the topic of ecotourism. D.To compare them with Austrians. 25.What happened to the author at the Naschmarkt? A.He came across polite traders. B.He lost his way at the food markets. C.He was inspired to smile even in winter. D.He was confused by transportation systems. 26.What do we know about Austrians? A.They are serious. B.They are unfriendly. C.They like to be on time. D.They like formal uniforms. 27.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the passage? A.To call on Austrians to be more friendly. B.To appeal to tourists to pay a visit to Austria. C.To declare his theory of international relations. D.To prove Austria doesn’t deserve its bad name. C Most people who visit Michael Heizer’s City start out in Las Vegas, a place featuring the blaring sounds of slot machines, air conditioning, and the Bellagio Hotel’s famous fountains dancing in time to the songs of Celine Dion. So it’s quite a shock, after a three-hour drive north, to find yourself in the middle of the baking Nevada desert, surrounded by absolute silence. For over five decades, American artist Michael Heizer has been working in this remote environment to complete a gigantic art work. Located at least a 90-minute drive from the nearest small town, and costing around $40 million in construction and maintenance, City is one of the largest artworks in the world. It recently opened to the public. Heizer started work on City in 1970.The artist built his masterwork out of local rock and dirt. The site is more than one-and-a-half miles long by a half-mile wide, and consists of piles of low, gravel-covered mounds (土堆), as well as sculptures made of smooth concrete and rough stone separated by a network of rocky runways and winding streets. Only up to six people are allowed to visit the work per day. Audiences aren’t permitted to take photos and can only engage with the work by being fully immersed in it. There’s no welcome center, restroom, or shade from the desert sun. There’s really nothing else to do except wander along the seemingly-endless dirt pathways, and get up close to the grand architectural forms. Heizer became known for creating huge remote artworks that looked like they’d been put there by superhuman forces. When it comes to why he creates an art work on such a large scale, Heizer said, “I’m not here to tell people what it all means. You can figure it out for yourself.” So National Public Radio (NPR) turned to Los Angeles County Museum of Art director Michael Govan, who has been helping Heizer get City ready for the public since the mid-1990s. “Heizer doesn’t come for the opening party,” said Govan. “He comes to make the work and to push definitions of what art is.” 28.How does the author highlight the “silent” feature of City? A.By making a long list. B.By presenting some opinions. C.By making a comparison. D.By presenting some facts. 29.What is the third paragraph mainly about? A.What the art work is like. B.When the art work was built. C.How the art work was created. D.Where the art work is situated. 30.What can tourists do at City? A.Shelter under the trees. B.Wander along the dirt paths. C.Participate in its creation. D.Share its beauty on social network. 31.What is Michael Heizer unwilling to do? A.Create more artworks like City. B.Voice his opinions on modern art. C.Explain his purpose of creating City. D.Figure out the meaning of an artwork. D Last month, I completed my Level 2 Chinese lessons. As the class wound up and we bid farewells to our teacher, there was little confusion in my mind on what to do next: to visit a sacred spot dedicated to a man who laid the groundwork for China’s modern educational system millennia ago. On a bright Sunday afternoon, I visited the Confucius Temple. Once inside, I quickly realized that this was actually my second visit. The first in late 2009 had been a rushed affair as I had unfortunately included it in a trip to the Yonghegong Lama Temple, which took much longer to explore. Since I did not remember much in the way of details from back then, this second visit, thankfully, felt as good as new. What stood out vividly as soon as I entered the courtyard was a statue of the great man right before the doors. Visitors were busy taking photographs and a middle-aged man was urging a young boy, possibly his grandson, to pose and pray. It must seem awe-inspiring for the little one. As he grows up, the schoolboy will no doubt come to appreciate what a groundbreaking change this man brought on basic literacy by giving everyone an equal opportunity to attend school, an unheard-of thing in those days. There is much to thank Confucius for: his remarkable contribution to the country’s moral compass, his near-single-handed effort to teach future generations the value of honesty, hard work, and respect for fellow beings — in short, the Confucian ethos (道德观) — that are in essence what we find in abundance in Chinese society, even today. As I explored every corner of the temple with crowds of well-behaved citizens, the fruits of a seed sown long ago became quite apparent to me. This visit to the Confucius Temple was not merely a tour; it was a pilgrimage (朝圣), allowing me to pay respect to the profound wisdom that has continued to shape Chinese society for thousands of years. 32.Why did the author find the second visit as good as new? A.He was quite familiar with it. B.His memories of the first visit faded. C.He spent more time in exploring it. D.The temple had changed quite a lot. 33.What contribution did Confucius make to the Chinese educational system? A.He built the Confucius Temple. B.He invented a new method of teaching. C.He established the first university in China. D.He made education accessible to all people. 34.What can be learnt about Confucianism in contemporary China? A.Its values are still widely practiced. B.It is far more influential than before. C.It has lost its relevance in today’s society. D.It is followed and practiced by few scholars. 35.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Confucius’ Enduring Influence: A Modern Pilgrimage B.Confucius and Education: Revisiting a Timeless Legacy C.Language Lessons and Cultural Heritage: A Confucian Journey D.My Second Visit to the Temple: Memories of Confucius How To Handle Travel Stress Traffic delays, disruptions due to storms or wildfires, and other surprises may be part of your next business or pleasure trip. 36 We’ve rounded up a few expert-backed tips for coping with stress, anxiety, and the chaos that come with modern travel. Yang was part of a research trip 60 (lead) by his mentor, Professor Bao Jigang. Their field study revealed that Azheke’s annual per capita income at the time was only 2,785 yuan. With traditional farming becoming less profitable, many villagers left to find work elsewhere, 61 (put) the terraced fields, traditional homes, and Hani culture at risk of disappearing. 62 response, Bao’s team launched the Azheke Plan. “Our goal was 63 (apply) academic expertise to support the village’s development of tourism, improving residents’ livelihoods along with preserving their cultural heritage,” he said. Christmas was coming. This year, my dad suggested that our family pack up and drive 500 miles north to celebrate the New Year’s holiday at our 600-square-foot lake cabin (小木屋) in northern Michigan. At first, I was hesitant. The cabin was awesome in the summer. It was our favorite spot for boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, and tubing. Hanging out there in the dead of winter sounded boring and bleak (阴冷的). I wrinkled my nose in disgust and asked, “What will we do?” “There’s tons of stuff to do,” Dad replied. “We can spend the week skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and sledding! We can play games, sleep in, and explore northern Michigan in a different season. We can build a giant bonfire down by the lake and have a barbecue, then come inside and drink hot cocoa.” Okay, I was in. My brother, Dan, was also interested. A few days after Christmas, Mom, Dad, Dan, and I piled into our car and hit the road. Five hours into our trip, my eyes fluttered shut. In my mind’s eye, I imagined the scene that would welcome us when we arrived at the cabin. The bare tree limbs would be covered in snow and ice crystals. I suspected the lake might look larger in the absence of docks and boats. The one thing that I hoped would be like summer was that the sky would be a bright blue. Several hours later, just as the sun was setting, we turned onto the cabin’s gravel (碎石) lane and were greeted by the familiar sound of crackling rocks beneath the tires, though slightly softened from the snow on the ground. Before long, the cabin came into view, with long icicles (冰锥) hanging from its eaves (屋檐) and window frames. Anyway, it felt good to be grounded and at our happy place. As the car stopped, we all jumped out and ran to the cabin doorway. Paragraph 1: Eagerly, Dad put the key in the cabin’s door lock, but it wouldn’t turn. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Although our first day of winter vacation was more adventurous than expected, we made plenty of wonderful memories that week. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1 / 12 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ Unit 3 【单元测试 · 提升卷】 (满分:150分 时间:120分钟) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分 7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1.Which club will the woman most probably join this term? You will need several hours to see everything there, especially if you take a trip along the river side in an old tram as far as the fishing village. The guides there all wear traditional costumes and you will also get the chance to try on clothes from a hundred years ago. You can buy gifts in the old village stores and eat delicious local food in the tea shop. If you visit the village factory, you can see how sweets were made a hundred years ago. And taste them too. Next I’d like to recommend a visit to salter house. This was built by sir Joshua and dates back to 1765. The salter family still lives there today. The house became famous in 1982 when the television series and Dorothy was filmed there. The furniture and paintings are well worth seeing. Don’t forget the oldest landmark. The black rock caves have been here for over 2 million years. And for half a million years, they were home to people and various animals, particularly tigers. The caves are open daily from April to October. A special attraction on evenings in August is a walk by candlelight. 根据第一段内容“At this time of year, thousands of British tourists are heading to the Austrian ski slopes (斜坡), attracted not just by the snow tracks but also by the pretty villages, great food and drink, and the kid-friendly hotel. 根据第二段关键句“But instead of the expected rude traders, I was surrounded by encouraging smiles! So far, so friendly. (但我周围并没有出现预期的粗鲁商人,而是充满了鼓励的笑容!到目前为止,很友好。)”可知,作者在Naschmarkt时,遇到的不是粗鲁的商人,而是友好的商人,由此可知,作者在Naschmarkt遇到了彬彬有礼的商人。故选A项。 26. 根据第四段关键句“That’s not to say you can’t anger an Austrian. For example, being late is not to be tolerated. (这并不是说你不能激怒一个奥地利人。例如,迟到是不能容忍的。)”可知,奥地利人不能容忍别人迟到,由此可知,奥地利人喜欢准时。故选C项。 27.推理判断题。根据第一段关键句“Puzzling, then, a recent survey by InterNations on Expat-Friendly Places has put Austria the worst country in the world (well, out of 53 countries) for “local friendliness”. I’ve had many experiences there, but none that I would call the least bit unfriendly. (作为奥地利的常客,我必须承认我很困惑。我在那里有很多经历,但没有一次是我认为有点不友好的。)”可知,文章提到了调查显示,奥地利是“当地友好”程度最差的国家,但作者用亲身经历告诉我们,事实并非如此,奥地利人很友好,由此可知,作者写这篇文章的目的是证明奥地利不应该有“不友好”的坏名声。故选D项。 C Most people who visit Michael Heizer’s City start out in Las Vegas, a place featuring the blaring sounds of slot machines, air conditioning, and the Bellagio Hotel’s famous fountains dancing in time to the songs of Celine Dion. 根据第一段“Most people who visit Michael Heizer’s City start out in Las Vegas, a place featuring the blaring sounds of slot machines, air conditioning, and the Bellagio Hotel’s famous fountains dancing in time to the songs of Celine Dion. So it’s quite a shock, after a three-hour drive north, to find yourself in the middle of the baking Nevada desert, surrounded by absolute silence. 根据文章第三段“Heizer started work on City in 1970. The artist built his masterwork out of local rock and dirt. The site is more than one-and-a-half miles long by a half-mile wide, and consists of piles of low, gravel-covered mounds (土堆), as well as sculptures made of smooth concrete and rough stone separated by a network of rocky runways and winding streets. 故选A项。 30. 根据文章第四段中“There’s really nothing else to do except wander along the seemingly-endless dirt pathways, and get up close to the grand architectural forms. (除了沿着看似无尽的泥土小径漫步,近距离欣赏宏伟的建筑形式外,真的没有别的事情可做)”可知,游客在《城市》可以沿着泥土小径漫步。故选B项。 31.细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段中“When it comes to why he creates an art work on such a large scale, Heizer said, ‘I’m not here to tell people what it all means. You can figure it out for yourself.’ (当谈到为什么他要创作如此大规模的艺术作品时,Heizer说:‘我在这里不是为了告诉人们它意味着什么。你可以自己弄清楚。’)”可知,Heizer不愿意解释他创作《城市》的目的。故选C项。 D Last month, I completed my Level 2 Chinese lessons. A.Confucius’ Enduring Influence: A Modern Pilgrimage B.Confucius and Education: Revisiting a Timeless Legacy C.Language Lessons and Cultural Heritage: A Confucian Journey D.My Second Visit to the Temple: Memories of Confucius 【答案】32.B 33.D 34.A 35.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第二段“The first in late 2009 had been a rushed affair as I had unfortunately included it in a trip to the Yonghegong Lama Temple, which took much longer to explore. Since I did not remember much in the way of details from back then, this second visit, thankfully, felt as good as new. (2009年末的首次参观颇为匆忙,当时我不慎将孔庙和雍和宫的行程安排在了一起——后者需要花费更长时间游览。由于对那时的诸多细节已然模糊,这次重访反倒给了我焕然一新的体验)”可知,作者第一次参观匆忙且记忆模糊,因此第二次参观感觉像全新体验。故选B。 33.细节理解题。根据第三段“As he grows up, the schoolboy will no doubt come to appreciate what a groundbreaking change this man brought on basic literacy by giving everyone an equal opportunity to attend school, an unheard-of thing in those days. (随着这个学童渐渐长大,他终将明白这位先贤通过“有教无类”带来的变革是多么开天辟地——在当时的年代,让每个人都享有平等的入学机会,这简直是闻所未闻的创举)”可知,孔子提倡让每个人都享有平等的入学机会,使教育普及化,这在当时是革命性的贡献。故选D。 34.推理判断题。根据第四段“There is much to thank Confucius for: his remarkable contribution to the country’s moral compass, his near-single-handed effort to teach future generations the value of honesty, hard work, and respect for fellow beings — in short, the Confucian ethos (道德观) — that are in essence what we find in abundance in Chinese society, even today. (我们实在应当感念孔子的诸多贡献:他奠定了这个国家的道德基石,几乎以一己之力向后世传授诚信、勤勉、仁爱等价值观念——简言之,正是儒家道德观的精髓,至今仍在中国社会生生不息)”可知,儒家道德观至今仍在中国社会广泛存在。故选A。 35. 通读全文,并根据最后一段“This visit to the Confucius Temple was not merely a tour; it was a pilgrimage (朝圣) , allowing me to pay respect to the profound wisdom that has continued to shape Chinese society for thousands of years. (此番孔庙之行绝非寻常游览,而是一场精神朝圣,让我得以向那延续千年、至今仍在塑造中国社会的深邃智慧致以崇高敬意)”可知,本文讲述作者重访孔庙,感悟孔子思想对中国社会持久而深远的影响。所以文章核心是“孔子对现代中国的影响”。选项A“Confucius’ Enduring Influence: A Modern Pilgrimage (孔子不朽的影响:一次当代朝圣之旅)”适合作标题。故选A。 How To Handle Travel Stress Traffic delays, disruptions due to storms or wildfires, and other surprises may be part of your next business or pleasure trip. 36 We’ve rounded up a few expert-backed tips for coping with stress, anxiety, and the chaos that come with modern travel. In 2024, the United Nations World Tourism Organization announced Azheke as one of the Best Tourism Villages. However, before receiving this 57 (recognize), Azheke had long struggled with poverty. In January 2018, Yang Bing, 58 student from the School of Tourism Management at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, visited Azheke and found it in disrepair — houses were crumbling, rivers 59 (fill) with rubbish, and a local restaurant saw hardly any visitors. Unlike commercial tourism companies that keep most of the profits, this plan introduced a village collective tourism company, where villagers own 70 percent of its shares, 64 the government only holds 30 percent to cover development costs. This system not only 65 (provide) financial benefits but also encourages residents to stay and actively contribute to preserving the village’s natural and cultural heritage. 56.its 57.recognition 58.a 59.were filled 60.led 61.putting 62.In 63.to apply 64.while 65.provides 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 故填its。 57. 故填a。 59. 根据“houses were crumbling”以及“and a local restaurant saw hardly any visitors”可知,句子描述的是过去的情况,应用一般过去时;且rivers和fill之间是被动关系,应用被动语态,主语rivers是复数,be动词用were。故填were filled。 60. 句中已有谓语动词was,lead应用非谓语动词形式作后置定语,修饰a research trip,且a research trip和lead之间是被动关系,应用过去分词led。故填led。 61. 故填In。 63. 此处表示“目标是做某事”,应用be to do sth. 故填to apply。 64. “villagers own 70 percent of its shares”和“the government only holds 30 percent to cover development costs”之间是对比关系,应用连词while,表示“而”。故填while。 65. Dear Tom, I’m more than glad to share a truly fascinating travel experience with you. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I’m looking forward to going there with you next time. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Eagerly, Dad put the key in the cabin’s door lock, but it wouldn’t turn. He jiggled it a few times, frowning. “The lock must be frozen,” he muttered. Dan and I exchanged glances — this wasn’t the warm welcome we’d imagined. Mom suggested pouring warm water on the lock, but we had no thermos. Then Dad grinned. “Time for Plan B!” He grabbed a lighter from the car and carefully held the flame near the keyhole. After a minute, the metal warmed just enough for the key to turn with a satisfying click. We cheered as the door swung open, revealing the cozy interior, dusted with a layer of cold but promising warmth once we got the fireplace going.       Although our first day of winter vacation was more adventurous than expected, we made plenty of wonderful memories that week. We built snow forts by the lake, their walls glittering under the winter sun. At night, we gathered around the bonfire, roasting marshmallows while Dad told stories of his own childhood winters. On New Year’s Eve, we strapped on ice skates and glided under a sky streaked with stars, laughing when Dan tripped into a snowdrift. By the time we packed to leave, the cabin felt like a winter wonderland — not bleak at all, but alive with joy and the quiet magic of the season. 续写线索: 锁冻住——尝试解冻——解开锁——开展活动——美好回忆——感悟 词汇激活 行为类: ①建议:suggest/advise ②展示:reveal/show ③制造很多美好回忆:make plenty of wonderful memories/create plenty of wonderful memories 情绪类: ①满意的:satisfying/satisfactory ②开心:joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] We cheered as the door swung open, revealing the cozy interior, dusted with a layer of cold but promising warmth once we got the fireplace going.(由as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] On New Year’s Eve, we strapped on ice skates and glided under a sky streaked with stars, laughing when Dan tripped into a snowdrift.(由when引导的时间状语从句和非谓语动词作状语) [高分句型3]By the time we packed to leave, the cabin felt like a winter wonderland — not bleak at all, but alive with joy and the quiet magic of the season.(由by the time引导的时间状语从句) 23 / 23 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$听力考试正式开始。So many clubs this term.
