根据World Earth Day部分 中的“U. S. Senator(参议员)Gaylord Nelson first thought of the idea for Earth Day in 1962 when he saw polluted rivers and cities with smoke (在1962年,当美国参议员盖洛德·尼 尔森看到污染的河流和烟雾弥漫的城市时, 他第一次想到了设立地球日的想法).” 故选A项。 2. 根据World Book Day部分 中的“Each year,on April 23,celebrations take place all over the world. April 23 marks the anniversary (周年纪念日)of the birth or death of a number of wellknown writers,including William Shakespeare,Miguel de Cervantes and Manuel Mejía Vallejo(每年的4月23日,世界 各地都会举行庆祝活动。 根据文章内容“Every year on April 22,people all over the world celebrate Earth Day(每年的4月22日,世界各地的人们 都会庆祝地球日);World Book Day is a cele bration to improve the enjoyment of books and reading. Each year,on April 23,celebrations take place all over the world(世界读书日是一 个庆祝提高书籍和阅读乐趣的节日。 以 及“On December 18,2007,the UN General Assembly(联合国大会)determined April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day(2007年12月18 日,联合国大会将4月2日定为世界提高自闭 症意识日).” 根据第二段的最后一句“It also could power electronics in remote or lowre source areas that lack electricity.”和最后一段 的最后一句“If you have some lowpower load and you need to power it through three months of darkness,this might be a way.” 根据第四段最后一句“To do that,the system might need more insulation a round the cool top plate.” 故选A项。 7. 文章第一段“A new device works like a solar panel,except that it doesnt harvest energy from the sun. It absorbs energy from the cold night sky.” 故选A项。 单元要点回顾 阅读词汇 1. tank 2. property 3. soldier 4. general 5. frontier 6. murder 7. border 8. civilian 9. mud 10. midnight 11. ward 12. surgeon 13. dozen 14. tobacco 15. cigarette 16. alcohol 17. tax 18. carpet 19. ankle 写作词汇 1. somewhat 2. monitor 3. selfcontrol 4. plug 5. vote 6. cease 7. chorus 8. departure 9. anyhow 10. edge 11. tailor 12. recall 13. bomb 14. pray 15. display 16. greet 17. sacred 18. greed 19. beneficial 20. permanent 21. loose 22. request 23. identification 24. temporary 25. unsuspecting 26. literally 27. complaint 28. pleasant 29. prejudiced 30. inquire 31. maturity 32. detect 33. ban 34. false 35. bother 36. bitter 拓展词汇 1. negotiate;negotiation 2. annoy;annoying 3. ashamed;ashamedly;shameful;shame 4. resolve;resolution;resolutely 5. inconvenience;inconvenient;inconveniently 6. assign;assignment 7. warn;warning 8. remote;remotely 9. arrest;arrester 10. tolerate;toleration 11. withdraw;withdrawal 12. violently;violent;violence 13. firmly;firm; firmnes 14. representative;represent 15. appreciation;appreciate 16. invest;invest ment 17. beneficial;benefit 18. fry;fried 重点词块 1. 8. in full 9. be annoyed with爥 10. be ashamed to do爥 11. struggle with爥 12. make sure 13. set a clear goal for爥 14. pick up 15. hold on for 16. 18. take action 19. be prejudiced against 20. on the edge of爥 21. 29. as a result 30. even though 31. on ones behalf 32. swear at sb. 33. 41. in the wild 42. come to an understanding 43. shout across 44. be fed up with 45. throw at 46. wake up 47. more or less 48. 53. go further 54. much less likely to 55. to conclude 56. fall into a coma 57. turn off 58. get away from 59. Dear James       , Yours sincerely,                 Li Hua 练案[12] UNIT 11 CONFLICT AND COMPROMISE Period Six Viewing Workshop—Check Your Progress 基础练 Ⅰ. 1. B A new device works like a solar panel, except that it doesnt harvest energy from the sun. It absorbs energy from the cold night sky. A prototype(原型)of the device produced enough electricity at night to power a small light bulb. A bigger version might one day light rooms or charge phones. It also could power electronics in remote or lowresource areas that lack electricity. The device makes use of the temperature difference between Earth and outer space. It then uses that difference to create electricity. As long as one side of it is cooler than the other,the generator can produce electricity. The cooler side faces the sky and is attached to an aluminum plate. That plate is sealed beneath a transparent cover and surrounded with insulation(隔热材料) to keep out heat. The bottom of the generator is attached to an exposed aluminum plate. That plate is warmed by the local air. At night,the top plate can get a couple of degrees Celsius cooler than the bottom of the generator. Researchers tested a 20centimetre prototype one clear December night in Stanford,California. The generator produced up to about 25 milliwatts of power per square metre of device. That was enough power to light a small lightemitting diode,or LED bulb. Further improvements might increase its production to at least 500 milliwatts per square metre. To do that,the system might need more insulation around the cool top plate. The device also could help power remote weather stations or other environmental devices, says Aaswath Raman. He is a materials scientist who worked on the device at the University of California,Los Angeles. “This may be useful in polar regions that dont see sunlight for months at a time,”Raman says. “If you have some low power load and you need to power it through three months of darkness,this might be a way.” 4. What can we know about the new device? A. It gains energy from the sun. B. Its been widely used in life. C. It is cooler than a solar panel. D. Itll be popular in special areas. 5. What does the author mainly talk about in Paragraph 3? A. Application fields of the device. B. The developing process of the device. C. The working principle of the device. D.
