British Athletics encouraged her to try it because 2008 would be the first time women’s steeplechase was in the Olympics. She had never jumped over barriers before her thirties. In 2010, she competed in both the 1,500m and steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games, which became a turning point. After a few injuries and falling out of love with the steeplechase a little bit, she talked with her coach John Nuttall about her options. They decided to attempt different challenges to focus on longer distances — the 5,000m and 10,000m. In 2011, although they hadn’t planned to compete indoors that season, she was in excellent shape. She won the match in Glasgow, breaking Liz McColgan’s record. Then she set her personal best in the 3,000m at Birmingham. Going into the European Athletics Indoor Championships, she was the fastest runner on paper, but she had come fourth twice before in these championships. Her coach and she discussed race strategy carefully. For the first time, she followed her coach’s advice exactly, staying near the front but not leading until the end. She had never trusted her finishing sprint (冲刺) before, but that day she did. Even though Russian runner Olesya Syreva was close behind, she won her first gold medal. At 37, she became the oldest person to win a European indoor title. Many people had kept asking when she would retire, but this victory proved that older athletes could still succeed. She changed her training as she got older, being more careful with hard training sessions and taking more time to recover. As she says, as long as you take care of your body, you can still run fast. This win was special because it came after many years of trying and showed that age shouldn’t limit anyone’s dreams in sports. 4. What motivated British Athletics to suggest the steeplechase to Helen? A. Her running speed. B. Her jumping ability. C. The popularity of the steeplechase. D. The chance to join in the Olympics. 5. What can be inferred from Helen’s conversation with her coach? A. She wanted to retire. B. She lacked confidence. C. She needed new challenges. D. She feared competition. 6. What made Helen successful in the final race according to paragraph 4? A. She read a lot of papers on running. B. She copied one of the Russian runners. C. She trained harder than any other runners. D. She followed her coach’s race arrangements. 7 What message does the text mainly convey? A. Age is no barrier to success. B. Training methods vary with age. C. Challenge is unavoidable in life. D. Success belongs to those with curiosity. 4. D 5. C 6. D 7. Later, more and more museums appeared. These museums are built to guide villagers to protect local natural landscapes, traditional customs, and ways of production. Compared with traditional museums, eco-museums come with different exhibits (展品) and are not limited to buildings. They have no walls or fences. “The costumes, language, music, and even the way of production and the lifestyle of the local community are all living exhibits that are collectible,” said Luo Gang, leader of the museum. Most of the folk houses are built with local materials, such as wood and stones. However, their roofs are all made of straw and need regular replacement. As the living standards rose in recent years, some residents started using bricks and concrete to build their houses. However, Luo is not concerned about such an impact on local traditions because the villagers are aware of the importance of protecting their old houses. In 2017, the wood house of villager Yang Chaozhong began to lean (倾斜), but he didn’t want to transform it into a brick-concrete structure. Yang said this house has been passed down for generations, so he was not willing to make the trade-off. He planned to repair it to restore the original (原先的) appearance of the house. Year after year, lots of old houses still remained their original appearance. Thanks to the efforts in recent years, the protection of traditional culture has become a consensus in the local community. “One of the features of the eco-museum is to guide the villagers to perform independent management and activate their passion for protecting their traditional culture,” Luo explained. My husband, Mitchell, and I are always on the lookout for dogfriendly options at each national park. We have been to quite a few national parks now and in general, the rule is that dogs must always be on a leash (用狗绳拴住) and stay on paved (铺好) path areas, no hikıng trails (小径). Yosemite was probably one of the more dogfriendly national parks we’ve been to as there was a longer paved bike trail in addition to a few shorter paved pathways that were dogfriendly. However, the hiking trails were still a no-go. For this reason, we haven’t spent as much time in Yosemite National Park and instead have enjoyed the state parks and national forest that surrounds them. Dogfriendliness aside, we have not for a second regretted visiting a national park and Yosemite was no exception. You must visit Yosemite if you ever get the chance. There were truly beautiful mountains and even though Mitchell and I grew up near the Rockies we were completely impressed by this new landscape. We were fortunate to visit in the fall which had the added benefit of the beautiful colors and fewer people! The landscape easily looked like it could be a painting. After Yosemite, we had originally planned to make our way to Death Valley. After some discussion, we decided to take a little detour (绕道) and visit Lake Tahoe. The lake was beautiful and there seemed to be signs everywhere for ski hills and endless outdoor activities. We ended up staying for two days at the Zephyr Cove RV Park and Resort. We were able to wash clothes on site, shower and even use their WiFi to catch up on work. We had ended up traveling farther than we planned, and it was nice to recharge, get refreshed and stay in one place a little longer. We’ve come to the conclusion that we’re still working on slowing down. 16. What is the rule for dogs in US national parks? A. They are limited to paved areas. B. They are permitted to be off-leash. C. They are allowed on all trails in the parks. D. They are allowed on hiking areas in many parks. 17. Why did the couple stay in Yosemite National Park for a short time? A. They had been there many times. B. They wanted to hike with their dog. C. They showed preference to state parks. D. They needed to travel farther than planned. 18. Why does the author mention the Rockies? A. To express her desire to visit the Rockies. B. To describe the landscape of her hometown. C. To stress the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite. D. To show the differences between the Rockies and Yosemite. 19. What can be inferred about the couple from the last paragraph? A. They got lost while traveling to their destination. B. They visited Lake Tahoe just out of convenience. C. They didn’t enjoy traveling because of work stress. D. They felt relaxed and energetic after slowing down. 【答案】16 A 17. B 18. C 19. 根据第一段中“We have been to quite a few national parks now and in general, the rule is that dogs must always be on a leash and stay on paved path areas, no hiking trails. (我们现在已经去过不少国家公园了,一般来说,规定是狗必须一直拴着狗绳,并且只能待在铺好的路径区域,不能去徒步小径。)”可知,在美国国家公园里,狗通常被限制在铺好的区域内。故选A。 根据第二段中“However, the hiking trails were still a no-go. For this reason, we haven’t spent as much time in Yosemite National Park and instead have enjoyed the state parks and national forest that surrounds them. (然而,徒步小径仍然是不允许进入的。因为这个原因,我们在约塞米蒂国家公园待的时间并不长,反而享受了周围的州立公园和国家森林。)”可知,作者和丈夫没有在约塞米蒂国家公园游览很长时间是因为他们想带狗一起徒步,而约塞米蒂国家公园不允许狗进入徒步的小路。故选B。 【18题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“There were truly beautiful mountains and even though Mitchell and I grew up near the Rockies we were completely impressed by this new landscape. (那里有真正美丽的山脉,尽管米切尔和我都是在落基山脉附近长大的,但我们仍然被这片新的风景完全震撼了。)”可知,作者提到落基山脉是为了通过对比来强调约塞米蒂国家公园令人叹为观止的美景。故选C。 【19题详解】 推理判断题。 根据最后一段中“We had ended up traveling farther than we planned, and it was nice to recharge, get refreshed and stay in one place a little longer. We’ve come to the conclusion that we’re still working on slowing down. (我们最终旅行的距离比计划的要远,能够充电、恢复精力并在一个地方多待一会儿真是太好了。我们得出的结论是,我们仍然在努力放慢脚步。)”可推知,这对夫妇在放慢脚步后感到放松和精力充沛。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项 Hashtags (标签) and keywords for Citywalk are currently trending across multiple Chinese social media platforms as more and more people look to share their experiences and thoughts online. Now the villagers are taking action to protect their traditional culture by performing independent management. Ridi Village Disaster: Damage and Rescue E US national parks aren’t dogfriendly; while we knew this was the case for some parks, we had heard it varied from park to park. 16 What is the rule for dogs in US national parks? 选项中有两项为多余选项 Hashtags (标签) and keywords for Citywalk are currently trending across multiple Chinese social media platforms as more and more people look to share their experiences and thoughts online.
