More than half of UK parents propose that sunglasses should become an official part of, the school uniform, a study has found.
A study of 1,000 parents with children aged 4-12 found 72 percent worried about protecting their child’ s eyes from the sun; however, only three in 10 sent their child to school with sunglasses every time it was sunny, with one quarter even saying their child was forbidden by their school from wearing sunglasses.
A consultant for Monkey Monkey Sunglasses, which commissioned (正式委托) the study, said: “Parents keep telling us that their children are more likely to wear sunglasses on holiday than at school. We want parents to have the awareness that apart from afternoon sun, the midday can be equally strong on the school playground or the sports field as it is on the beach. Wearing hats and staying in the shade during these times help reduce UV exposure but are not a surrogate for wearing sunglasses with full UVA and UVB protection, because UV rays reflect through cloud cover and reflect off a variety of surfaces.”
Only a handful of those surveyed said their children always wore sunglasses on a sunny day (the proportion was 16 percent) and one in four said their children didn’t own sunglasses.
Parents of children who never wear sunglasses said their kids found them uncomfortable to wear and avoid them if they can. But 57 percent who have bought their children sunglasses allowed for the glasses’ UV protection rating.
When asked about their knowledge about surrounding surfaces which reflect and increase UV radiation (辐射), 61 percent of parents who participated in the study correctly said that snow reflected UV rays. One in four knew concrete (混凝土) surfaces reflect UV rays and 56 percent pointed to water as a key reflector of UV rays.
Monkey Monkey’s consultant added: “It is said that up to 80 percent of a person’s lifetime exposure to UV is received before the age of 18, when children’s eyes are also not yet fully developed. So we can see what we should take action to do.”
51. What is the finding of the study?
A. Most British schools required students to wear sunglasses.
B. Nearly half of British schools forbade students to wear sunglasses.
C. Most British parents didn't help protect their child's eyes from the sun at school.
D. British parents lacked the awareness of protecting their children's eyes.
52. What does the underlined word“surrogate” in Para.3 probably mean?
A. Replacement. B. Requirement. C. Guarantee. D. Solution.
53. What can we know about the surveyed parents?
A. Few of them bought sunglasses for their children.
B. Some of them had a certain understanding of UV rays.
C. Most of them didn't know about UV radiation.
D. Some of them thought wearing sunglasses was uncomfortable.
54. Which of the following does Monkey Monkey's consultant agree?
A. Children should not be exposed to too much sunshine.
B. Children had better not play on the school playground in the afternoon.
C. It is unnecessary for children to wear sunglasses when taking part in activities.
D. It is important to protect young eyes from sun exposure at an early age.
55. What's the main idea of the text?
A. Monkey Monkey’s consultant conducted a survey.
B. Monkey Monkey sunglasses are necessary for teenagers.
C. UK parents has little knowledge about reflectors of UV rays.
D. Most UK parents believe school uniforms should include sunglasses.

根据第二段“A study of 1,000 parents with children aged 4-12 found 72 percent worried about protecting their child’ s eyes from the sun; however, only three in 10 sent their child to school with sunglasses every time it was sunny, with one quarter even saying their child was forbidden by their school from wearing sunglasses.
根据第三段“Wearing hats and staying in the shade during these times help reduce UV exposure but are not a surrogate for wearing sunglasses with full UVA and UVB protection, because UV rays reflect through cloud cover and reflect off a variety of surfaces.”
根据倒数第二段“When asked about their knowledge about surrounding surfaces which reflect and increase UV radiation (辐射), 61 percent of parents who participated in the study correctly said that snow reflected UV rays. One in four knew concrete (混凝土) surfaces reflect UV rays and 56 percent pointed to water as a key reflector of UV rays. (当被问及他们对反射和增加紫外线辐射的周围表面的了解时,61%的参与研究的父母正确地回答说,雪会反射紫外线。四分之一的人知道混凝土表面会反射紫外线,56%的人指出水是紫外线的主要反射面。) ”可知,一些参与调查的家长对紫外线有一定的了解,故选B。
【54题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Monkey Monkey’s consultant added: “It is said that up to 80 percent of a person’s lifetime exposure to UV is received before the age of 18, when children’s eyes are also not yet fully developed. So we can see what we should take action to do.” (Monkey Monkey的顾问补充说:“据说,一个人一生中80%的紫外线照射是在18岁之前受到的,那时孩子的眼睛还没有发育完全。”所以我们可以看到我们应该采取什么行动。”)” 可知,一个人一生中高达80%的紫外线暴露是在18岁之前,而此时孩子的眼睛还没有完全发育,所以推断保护孩子小时候的眼睛免受太阳照射很重要,故选D。
【55题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其第一段“More than half of UK parents propose that sunglasses should become an official part of, the school uniform, a study has found. (一项研究发现,超过一半的英国家长建议太阳镜应该成为校服的一部分。)” 可知,文章主要讲述了一项研究发现,大多数英国父母认为太阳镜应该成为校服的一部分,所以D选项“大多数英国家长认为校服应该包括太阳镜。”符合文章大意,故选D。

The Tianjin Binhai Public Library was described by The Daily Mail as “the world’s ultimate library” in 2017, and “breathtaking” was the word chosen for it. One book at the library and you’ll see why. With its futuristic design and walls loaded with books, it’s the dream library of every book lover.
But as the awe continues, there’s a burning question lying in the back of our minds: When physical bookstores are closing down one by one, what makes libraries immune from digitalization? And do we still need libraries as we’ve got the Internet in our hands?
Reporter Ian Clark has the answer. “Libraries are not declining in importance - people are simply changing the way they use them,” he wrote. What Clark means is that libraries have shifted from simply being storehouses of books to a medium to help “bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots”. According to him, Libraries Are Essential. Since not everyone can afford a smart phone, a tablet or an Internet connection, and not everyone has the know-how to search the internet efficiently, it’s public libraries that make sure that these resources and technologies are available to a larger group of people. And one of the pitfalls that come with online materials is that they’re not always trustworthy. “Google doesn’t tell you what you’re not getting, so people need to evaluate the quality and completeness of what they see on their screens, ” Sarah Pritchard, dean of libraries at Northwestern University, told Northwestern Research Magazine. And libraries are usually where that “evaluation” happens.
But all of these practical functions aside, we still need the physical space that a library provides. It’s something that's called a “third place”, according to the Seattle Times. This is a place in which we can fully concentrate on our study and work without easily getting distracted. And compared to other “third places” like coffee shops, libraries have a “non-commercial nature” that allows you to relax completely. “Nobody is trying to sell you anything in the library. There is no pressure to buy and there is no judgment of your choices,” Anne Goulding, a professor at Victoria University in New Zealand, said. “There are few other spaces that you can just ‘be’ without somebody questioning your presence or your motivation.”
56. The attraction of the Tianjin Binhai Public Library lies in _______.
A. world's ultimate library B. design and book walls
C. every book lover's dream D. reports on The Daily Mail
57. The underlined word “pitfalls” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to _______.
A. problems B. functions C. mistakes D. trends
58. What would Ian Clark probably agree with?
A. Libraries have changed the way people read.
B. Libraries are as important as they used to be.
C. Libraries are better used by the poor than the rich.
D. Libraries are made more available to more people.
59. What advantages do libraries have over coffee shops according to Anne Goulding?
A. Libraries make people less likely to get distracted.
B. Libraries give people more motivation and inspiration.
C. Libraries provide people with a wider range of choices.
D. Libraries allow people to read without fear of being judged.
60. Where can you probably find the above passage?
A. In a news report. B. In an introductory speech.
C. In a science magazine. D. In a fashion brochure.
B 57. A 58. D 59. D 60. C

Dear Chris,
I’m truly sorry to hear that you’re feeling anxious about your appearance. I completely understand how overwhelming these feelings can be, and I want you to know that you’re not alone in this.
Firstly, I’d like to emphasize the importance of focusing on inner beauty. True beauty comes from within — it’s about your kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, and the way you treat others. Secondly, it’s crucial to avoid comparing yourself to others. Everyone is unique, with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Social media often presents an unrealistic portrayal of beauty, which can lead to unhealthy comparisons. Lastly, adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly boost your confidence and overall well-being.
Don’t let superficial concerns define your self-worth. Embrace your uniqueness, and let your inner light shine through. I’m here for you, supporting you every step of the way.
Yours,
Li Jin
