②With the development of cities, the rising underground temperature is causing the ground to heat up and deform (变形), reported a study team from Northwestern University, US. In the past three years, the team put more than 150 temperature sensors (感应器) under Chicago. The temperatures they recorded were surprising. For example, air temperatures in underground can be up to 25℃ higher than the normal ground temperature. After collecting information in Chicago, the team created computer models to see how temperatures will influence the ground until 2051.
③The models showed, when heated, the ground may go up by as much as 12 centimeters, or go down by as much as 0.8 centimeters. This may even cause the ground to break up (分裂), leaving people who live and work above in dangerous situations.
④However, Rotta Loria, who led the study, said in a report “it takes a long time to see the bad effects”. As scientists have already known a lot about underground climate change, future plans for cities should be considered. Materials that take in heat can be used to keep the heat from entering the ground.
⑤The team also pointed out that the rising temperature could be seen as an opportunity. City planners can try to collect heat underground and send it above for heating.
9. According to the passage, what may NOT happen to the ground when heated?

Time Management
Do you ever wish you had more time? Everyone gets the same amount of time each day. But here are some ways to use those hours better. As a popular saying says, “Work smarter, not harder.”
The most important way to manage your time is to set priorities (优先权). ___17___. Also, consider whether or not they are urgent (紧急的)—if they need to be done right away. It can be easy to forget important tasks that aren’t urgent, so make time for them.
Decide ahead of time what you’re going to do at certain times each day. Schedule times not only to meet people but also to do things alone. Then you can make sure everything gets done.
___18___. Are you smarter in the morning, afternoon or evening? Schedule difficult tasks for times you feel good, saving easy ones for when you’re tired.
Write down what you need to do and when. I keep two to-do lists: one for the present tasks and one for larger projects I’m working on. That way I can make sure I don’t forget anything.
___19___. When someone wants to give you a task, think carefully. Is it really important enough to spend your precious (宝贵的) time on? Could someone else do it instead?
___20___. If you’re in charge of (负责) running a meeting, keep it short. Reading articles or talking to friends online can also use up much of your time. Don’t allow it.
In the end, using time well is about making a good plan and sticking to it.
A. Think about the time of day you work best
B. Find out which of your tasks is the most important
