All through grade school, I got extra help with school work. If I got a D. I was very happy. If I got a
C-minus (C-). I had achieved greatness. A's and B's were a kingdom I could never enter.
Once my teacher Miss Mills had given me a list of ten spelling words. My mother and I went over the list
until I knew those words. I felt great. I thought. 'Wow! This time, I'm going to pass." The next day, I went into
the classroom and began to write down the words. The first word was "carpet". I wrote that one down
c-a-r-p-e-t. I was feeling pretty confident. Then came the word "neighbor"-I wrote down the letter "n". Then
rhythm -I knew there was an"r". Suburban -I wrote "s-u-b". My confidence failed me. I had gone from
100 percent to maybe a D-minus. Where did the words go?
Some people talk about information sliding off your brain. That was my life. I was an underachiever
Now I know I have dyslexia (诵读困难症). A person with dyslexia might see "the" as"teh" and "bird" as
'brid". My brain learns differently. A learning disability can really change the way you feel about yourself
Now I know that even if I learn differently. I can still be filled with greatness.
Today when I visit schools as an actor, director, and co-author of children's books, I tell children that
everyone has something special inside. It's our job to find out what that is and get it out, and give it to the
world as agift

_”.

_”
A)AChange for Sure
B)A Great Underachiever
C)A Gift from the World

C. Choose the best answer and complete the passage(选择最恰当的选项完成短文)(6分)
In high school and college, you may be encouraged to travel or study abroad. Perhaps you are too busy
with your schoolwork to 60 consider these chances. I encourage traveling at a young age. The earlier
you travel widely, the more you can learn.
As young people, most of us live with mom and dad. Our community knows us well, too. The idea of
this comfort zone can be scary
However, one learns the most in strange situations. In our daily life, we know well how to act and respond

to people. But how about being in a new place, with strangers who hold different values? It can be

By traveling wide and far, you will also develop cultural sensitivity (文化敏感性). Being culturally
sensitive is very important. And it is not enough to just know 'People from that country are like this."

workday. Many foreigners consider the Spanish people 64 . Few of them know people there place grea
value on family time. To the Spanish people, eating together as a family is more important than anything else
Cultural sensitivity will help you with your 65 on both business and daily personal affairs
Finally, I'd like to mention that travelling abroad will be a wonderful way to learn a new language. Being

词,首字母已给):(7分)
Ten years ago, I set out to study luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at
the right time, while o 66 always experience ill luck
Many people volunteered for my research. Over the years I interviewed them, watched their lives and had
them take part in my experiments.
I carried out a simple experiment to discover why there were d 67 in their ability to catch chances
I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper and asked them to look through it and tell me how many
photographs were i 68.
I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying, "Tell the researcher you
have seen this and win $5o."
This message took up h 69 of the page and was more than two inches high. It was staring at
everyone straight in the face, but unlucky people tended to miss it and lucky people tended to catch it
Unlucky people are just more nervous than lucky people. They are busy looking only for what they need
and this s 70 them from noticing the unexpected. So they miss out on chances.
Lucky people tend to be more r 71 and open. They can see everything that is in front of them
rather than just what they are looking for
My research shows that lucky people live by several rules. Here are some of these rules:
* Be open to new experiences and b 72 your old thought patterns (模式).
* Listen to your gut instincts (直觉)- they are often right
* See yourself being lucky before an important meeting or phone call
Spend a few moments each day remember things that went well

E.Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题):
(6分)
Pu Cuifen, a villager from Yunnan Province, experienced that an elephant visited his house two years ago.
The elephants were harmful to no one, but had com and beans on the farm. The villagers lost nearly 50.o00
yuan. Earlier than that, villagers would drive away the elephants to protect their crops, which made the animals
angry and led to human injuries or deaths.
Now the government has helped to pay the money for the crops damaged (损害) by elephants. Such
things will help protect the interests of farmers and elephants. The govemment has also created "dining halls"
for the wild elephants to grow their favorite food, such as elephant grass and bamboo. Villagers now simply
leave the elephants alone.
Yunnan Province is not the only example of protecting wild animals. In Tibet, Migmar used to be a hunter
but now has become a rescuer at the wildlife rescue station of Oomolangma. He and his friends take turns to
go around to check there's no trouble or danger for wild animals every day. The wildlife rescue station was set
up in 2o19. From then on, they have saved 17 wild animals. During this period, they learned to tie up the
animals and clean their wounds, and set them free into the wild when they got well again."Animals don't talk.
but I can feel their trust. We should protect them." said Migmar
Examples of taking care of wild animals appear more around us. From damage to protection, people see
more changing on human-wildlife relations. Even the simplest change and action can make a change to the
world.
73. The elephants were harmless to people in Pu's village, weren't they?
74. What happened when the villagers drove away the elephants?
75. Why did the government create "dining halls" for the wild elephants?
76. What topic do the two examples have in common?
77. How do you feel about Migmar and his friends? Please give your reason(s)
(此题2分)
VII.Writing(作文):(共12分)
78. Write at least 60words according to the given situation (根据以下情境写一篇不少于60个词的短文
