A Memorable Outing to Ding Mountain Park
Last Thursday, in order to raise our awareness of physical exercise as well as enhance our willpower, our school organized a fantastic outdoor activity for all the teachers and students of Grade One to Ding Mountain Park. This event has been highly praised by everyone who participated.
As scheduled, we gathered at the school playground at 1:30 p.m. and set off for Ding Mountain Park, a perfect place for an outing with lush green trees, colorful flowers, and a clear lake. We started with a group hike along the scenic trails. The journey was challenging at times, but it was also very exciting. We encouraged each other and shared stories as we walked. Along the way, we also had the opportunity to learn about the local plants and animals from our teachers.Upon arrival, we were greeted by the beautiful scenery and fresh air and we had a picnic in a designated area.We also played some fun games, such as frisbee and tug-of-war, which added more joy to the day. The laughter and cheers filled the air, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
The outing to Ding Mountain Park was not only a great way to relax and enjoy nature, but it also had a significant impact on us. It helped us build stronger bonds with our classmates and teachers. We learned the importance of teamwork and perseverance during the hike. We all look forward to more activities like this in the future.

【36题详解】根据上文“So what to do with all those perfectly-good-but-you're-maybe-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor?(那么,该如何处理那些堆在卧室地板上的(看起来)完好但你可能有点厌倦的衣服呢?)” 下文“It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.(这是扔掉旧衣服、从朋友那里买衣服、同时开派对的最好方法。)” A项“Hold a clothing swap.(进行衣物交换。)” 故选A项。
【37题详解】根据上文“Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.”(邀请5到10个人,这样你就有一个很好的选择。) 下文“and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.”(可能没有足够的东西可供选择;多于这个数量,它就变得无法控制。) B项“Less people than that”(少于这些人)提出一种假设,和下文中“more than that”相对,说明人数不宜太多,也不能太少,符合语境。故选B项。
【38题详解】根据下文“They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.”(他们还应该准备大量的可重复使用的袋子,把他们的“新”衣服带回家。) F项“Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition.”(告诉每个人带来品相完好的衣服。)
【39题详解】根据上文“Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.”(把不同类型的衣服放在房间的不同地方。) 下文“Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on.”(在房间周围放几面镜子,这样人们试穿时就能看到衣服的样子。) D项“Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots.(让每个人的衣服都放在相应的位置上。)”
【40题详解】上文“Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever.”(设置开始时间。 下文“And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!”(别忘了拿出一些饼干和水果。 G项“Just keep music playing throughout.”(要始终播放音乐。)

promise to finish it this afternoon. (2)
Text 3
W: Frank, I have to go now. Thanks for taking me to see the beautiful scenery today.
M: Why? It gets dark late in summer. And you don’t need to work tomorrow.
W: Yes, but I have to leave early to avoid the rush hour. You know, I’m a newcomer to driving. (3)
Text 4
M: Hello, madam. I have already stopped right in front of the hotel. You can see a green taxi flashing the lights.
W: OK. Please wait a moment. I need to give my manager a call. He’s borrowing an umbrella from the receptionist.
Text 5

buy a new one for her.
W: Yeah, but I didn’t take it without permission. (5)
Text 6
M: Hello, may I help you, Miss?
W: Yes, please. I’d like to send these books to Tennessee. (6)
M: OK. I’d like to suggest Media Mail which is especially for books, and your delivery will arrive in 2 to 8 business days.
W: But they’re really urgent.
M: Then I recommend Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express. (6)
W: Which one is faster? (6)
M: The second one. (6) It will take you only one or two days.
W: OK. (6) Besides, I also need to buy three stamps. How much? (7)

any future as an assistant to a director. (10) I really want to look for a more challenging job. (11)
M: But being a fashion editor is demanding, and you don’t have much relevant work experience, so you may have to
devote much time and effort to the job. Have you ever thought about that?
W: Yeah. I think I’ll get used to it soon. I have a keen eye for this industry and I often look through some fashion news
and watch fashion shows on the Internet.

lately, so I’ll go this time. (14) But I arrived home an hour ago, only to find that my car wouldn’t start.
W: Do you know what’s wrong with the car?
M: I’m not exactly sure. I think there is a problem with the engine. It has been used for years. I have called the garage, but
I’m afraid it won’t be repaired until next week.
W: I see. Since we live in the same neighborhood, I can take you to the school. (15) After the meeting, I can drive you
home.
M: It couldn’t be better. When shall we meet? (16)
W: Well, the conference begins at 8:30 a.m. We’d better arrive ahead of time. It’s a 40-minute drive from here to the
school. What about we set off at 7:30 a.m.? (16)
M: No problem. See you tomorrow. (16)
Text 10
“The average person spends between eight and ten hours on average in bed every night, so it’s important to spend
some time getting your bedroom environment right!” Hayley Worley, founder of Sheet Society, knows a thing or two
about getting a good night’s sleep. And she believes that your bedroom plays a huge role in the length and quality of your
sleep. So what can boost our beauty sleep in the bedroom? First, with the right styling, blankets can bring warmth and
softness to your bedroom. Position a small blanket at the foot of your bed to create visual balance and a sense of cosiness
around the space where you rest and sleep. Second, for a deep sleep, we’re turning to soft and silky bamboo bedding.
(18) Third, add a new step to your “wind down” routine with a hot cup of herbal tea. Fourth, color plays an important
part in calming you down, so pick a color or combination that suits your personal style. (19) Last but not least, the
right lighting is the key to relaxation. In the evenings, it helps to switch off any main lights and use softer, warm lighting
to light your home. Style your bedside with a low-lit table lamp, (20) as darker light is proven to be helpful for sleep.

I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, "Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!" Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”
Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.

Do you use the weekends to catch up on sleep? If so, you may want to rethink that. Since the 1990s, scientists have understood that lacking sleep can harm people’s health. The changes it causes can lead to obesity and diabetes. Yet in a recent survey, a little more than one in every three U. S. adults reported sleeping fewer than the recommended seven hours a night.
Weekends may seem like a great time to catch up on sleep. Scientists, however, weren’t sure that would work. So Christopher Diner, a sleep physiologist at the University of Colorado and his colleagues decided to test it out.
The team looked at three groups of people in their mid-20s. For roughly two weeks, each group followed a set sleep schedule. One group slept about eight hours every night. Another group only got about five hours of shuteye a night. The third group slept some five hours each weeknight, but could sleep whenever and however much they wanted over the weekend.
The groups with less sleep snacked more at night, gained more weight, and saw their insulin (胰岛素)sensitivity drop compared to the group getting nine hours a night, said the study. The group that received two days to catch up on sleep saw some small improvements that were lost once they returned to a shorter sleep schedule. People in the study who got too little sleep every night gained weight. So did the weekend sleep-in crowd.
“In the end, we didn’t see any benefit in any metabolic (新陈代谢的) outcome in the people who got to sleep in on the weekend,”Chris Depner, an assistant research professor of the study said in a statement. In some cases, insulin sensitivity among members of the group with the weekend to catch up declined more than those who consistently slept five hours a night, said the study.
28.Why did Diner and his team conduct the study?
A. To assist doctors’ work. B. To finish an assignment.
C. To prove their assumption. D. To remove their doubt.
29.How did the researchers carry out the test?
A. By using a questionnaire.
B. By comparing three sleep patterns.
C. By tracking one group for two weeks.
D. By making cause-and-effect analyses.
30.What do we know about catching up on sleep according to the study?
A. It requires further study.
B. It makes no difference to health.
C. It may lead to a regular sleep pattern.
D. It may bring more harm than benefits.
31.What may the following paragraph probably focus on?
A.Ways of catching up on sleep. B. Benefits of exercise for sleep.
C. Suggestions on healthy sleep. D. Disorders from lacking sleep.

People’s first memories are all autobiographical(自传式的), or memories of significant experiences in their lives, and these events typically didn’t happen before the age of 2 or 3. In fact, most people can’t remember things from the first few years of their lives—a phenomenon researchers have called infantile amnesia.
However, research suggests that infants (婴儿) can form other kinds of memories. Within the first few days of life, infants can recall their own mother’s face and distinguish it from the face of a stranger. A few months later, infants can demonstrate that they remember lots of familiar faces by smiling most at the ones they see most often.
But if so, why do people experience infantile amnesia? Though it still isn’t clear whether it’s because we can’t form autobiographical memories, or whether we just have no way to retrieve (找回)them, scientists have a few guesses.
One is that autobiographical memories require you to have some sense of self. Researchers have tested this ability using a mirror recognition task called the rouge test. It involves marking a baby’s nose with a spot of red lipstick.
Researchers then place the infant in front of a mirror. Infants younger than 18 months just smile at the baby in the reflection, not showing any evidence of recognizing themselves or the red mark on their face. Between 18 and 24 months, infants touch their own nose, even looking embarrassed, suggesting that they connect the red dot in the mirror with their own face—they start to form some sense of self.
Another possible explanation is that because infants don’t have language until later in the second year of life, they can’t form narratives about their own lives that they can later recall. Finally, the hippocampus (海马体), which is the region of the brain that’s largely responsible for memory, isn’t fully developed in the infancy period.
Scientists will continue to investigate how these factors may contribute to infantile amnesia.
32.What can infants do in their first few months?
A. Memorize most of their family members.
B. Distinguish between familiar and unfamiliar faces.
C. Remember a string of events from the recent past.
D. Identify their own reflections in the mirror.
33.What do infants tend to do after 18 months, according to the rouge test?
A. See their reflections as themselves.
B. Ignore the marks on their faces.
C. Enjoy playing with their reflections.
D. Show a strong interest in the mirror.
34.What could be a cause of infantile amnesia, according to the text?
A. Infants’ inability to recall memories.
B. Infants’ immature hippocampus.
C. Infants’ undeveloped communication skills.
D. Infants’ unsteady autobiographical memories.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. When do babies start remembering things?
B. Why is it hard to retrieve lost memories?
C. How do kids form their first memories?
D. Why can’t we remember being a baby?
