At first, the puzzled doctors thought she had flu,but when her condition didn’t improve, the Xus returned to the clinic room, where a doctor by chance had a similar earlier experience with such symptoms(症状) in the blood known as Kawasaki disease.Though rare(罕见的),it’s the leading cause of the heart disease in babies and young children, and its causes remain unknown. The doctor knew how to treat it:He ordered some medicine for Kate, and finally she shook off the illness without suffering damage to her heart. Xu remembers being curious about her sister’s illness condition and was amazed that the grown-ups couldn’t answer her questions about why it was so hard to check.“In my mind,it was this puzzle I wanted to solve,” she says. Ten years later, wanting to enter a high school science fair, she had an idea. What if we had a doctor in our pocket? So she created just that: Using AI,Xu designed a program that uses visual facts to check the disease based on five physical symptoms. The technology works the same way as apps that can identify birds and plants with photos you’ve taken on your cellphone.Worried parents can upload a photo that they have taken of their child, and the technology will scan the picture for symptoms of the disease, which often have a strong visual factors, such as a swollen tongue. Xu’s invention has been applied as a web app on the website.“The technology could also be developed for recognizing some other diseases,” she says.“It means a lot to me.I want to use AI to help people live happier and healthier lives.” Xu says that her sister Kate, now in her third year of high school with dreams of becoming an environmental engineer,is strong and healthy. 1.Why did the author mention Kate’s illness? Computer scientists at Newcastle University and Royal Holloway,University of London have exposed multiple security and privacy issues by evaluating 40 popular Android apps for pets. The results show that several of these apps are putting their users at risk by exposing their login or location details. Password vulnerability(漏洞) was one of the areas exposed by the team. They identified three applications that had the user’s login details visible in plain text within non-secure HTTP traffic. This means that anyone is able to observe the Internet traffic of someone using one of these apps and will be able to find out their login information. In addition to login information, two of the apps also showed user details, such as their location that may enable someone to gain access to their devices and risk a cyber-attack. Another area of concern identified in the study was the use of trackers. All but four of the applications were found to feature some form of tracking software.A tracker gathers information on the person using the application,on how they use it,or on the smartphone being used. Scott Harper is a PhD student at Newcastle University’s School of Computing and the lead author of the study. He said:“Pet tech such as smart collars and GPS trackers for your cat or dog,is a rapidly growing industry and it brings with it new security, privacy, and safety risks to the pet owners. We would urge anyone using these apps to take the time to ensure they are using a unique password, check the settings and ensure that they consider how much data they are sharing or willing to share.” 5.What’s the function of the first paragraph? A.To display the benefits of pet tracking. B.To introduce pet and animal-related apps. C.To raise the topic by giving research findings. D.To show the evidence of cybersecurity risks. 根据文章第一段“Pet and animal-related apps are creating cybersecurity risks to their owners, new research has shown. While being able to keep track of your cat and dog may be an attractive benefit to many pet owners as it can provide peace of mind, allowing a third party to track your movements may be much less attractive.” 6.What’s the main idea of paragraph 3? A.The threat of a cyber-attack. B.The operation of HTTP traffic. C.The access to login information. D.The potential risks in password security. 根据文章第三段首句“Password vulnerability(漏洞) was one of the areas exposed by the team.” 7.What attitude should we hold while using pet tech according to Scott Harper? A.Flexible. B.Cautious. C.Determined. D.Casual. 根据文章最后一段中的“Pet tech such as smart collars and GPS trackers for your cat or dog,is a rapidly growing industry and it brings with it new security,...check the settings and ensure that they consider how much data they are sharing or willing to share.” 8.Which is the most suitable title for the text? A.Are We Safe to Use Android Apps? B.How Can We Observe the Internet Traffic? C.What Does Tracking Software Bring Us? D.Are Our Pets Leaking Information About Us? 根据文章第一段首句“Pet and animal-related apps are creating cybersecurity risks to their owners, new research has shown.” Ⅳ.七选五(每小题2.5分,共12.5分) School is tough enough as it is,but distance learning presents a whole new challenge. Many students struggle to focus on their homework when they study at home,as online courses call for self-discipline(自律). 1 Motivate(激励) yourself.Think about how traditional classroom settings motivate students to get their work done: deadlines written on a white board, friendly reminders and suggestions from teachers, and group study sessions with classmates. 2 Write down your deadlines and get in touch with your classmates to study together and quiz each other online. 3 You’re not the only one to struggle with online learning,so don’t be afraid to get in touch with your teachers and classmates with any questions you might have.Similarly, remember your teachers and classmates might reach out to you with questions as well.Respond to their messages in a timely manner to keep open lines of communication. Find a good study spot.Houses are full of distractions(分散注意力的事物)—especially if you’re in no mood to study.Set yourself up for success by reducing these distractions and creating an environment where it is easy to do schoolwork. 4 Leave your phone in another room in order to avoid temptation(诱惑) from social media or online games. Use what you have. One of the many benefits of online learning is having endless Internet resources. 5 Be familiar with study resources and open education sites, and then use them to add to your studies and quiz yourself before exams.Online classes might require more self-discipline than classroom learning, but that hard work will surely pay off. A.Manage your time. B.Be ready to ask all the questions. C.A short break is also necessary for online learning. D.You can also use these helpful methods in your own home. E.Many of them might help you understand your studies easily. F.Keep up with your online schoolwork with these tips for success. G.If possible, find a quiet place away from your housemates, family members and TV. D项中的“these helpful methods”指代上文中的“deadlines written on a white board...group study sessions with classmates”。故选D。 3. 根据下文“You’re not the only one to struggle with online learning,so don’t be afraid to get in touch with your teachers and classmates with any questions you might have.” 根据上文中的“creating an environment where it is easy to do schoolwork”可知G项衔接上文,符合语境。故选G。 5.
