二、阅读理解(2024桂林市第十八中学一模)
①Hugging is a good way to show love and care. Even the
grumpiest(脾气最暴躁的) people have to agree that sometimes nothing
makes us feel warmer than a good hug.
②But how do we hug?For how long? Scientists did a study on hugs.
They organized a group of volunteers, asked them to do different kinds
of hugs.
③There are two main ways that we hug each other—neck-waist and
crisscross(颈腰交错). The neck-waist hug is when one person wraps
5
(用……缠绕) both arms around the other's mid-section, while the
other wraps around the first person's neck and shoulders. The crisscross
hug is when each person puts one arm under the other's armpit(腋下),
and the other one over their shoulder.
④According to this study, we'd like to choose the second way, even
if there is a height difference. That's pretty important because a crisscross
hug is a little harder if one person is taller. As for why we do that, one
guess is that the crisscross doesn't put one person above the other. And
feeling equal is a pretty important part of a hug.
6
⑤Then there's the other important thing. How long does a hug last?
Actually the average(平均的) hug lasts about 3 seconds. But is that
perfect? Researchers set up three kinds—one-second, five-second and ten-
second hugs. The five-second hugs came out on top as being the most
satisfying. And the least satisfying? The one-second hug. But surprisingly,
the ten-second hugs scored as highly as the five-second hugs did. This is
strange because ten seconds is a pretty long time for a hug. The fact
that people enjoyed them suggests that we really honestly do love human
contact(接触). It is a comforting thing.
