UNIT 2 BRIDGING CULTURES [读与练·阅读限时训练一] Ⅰ. 根据文章Goran Durdevic部分的“Goran Durdevic, lecturer of the Beiwai College, Beijing Foreign Studies University.”和Agshin Aliyev部分的“Agshin Aliyev, PhD, head of the Azerbaijani Language Department at the School of Asian Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University.” 根据Sha Xiaolan部分的“While AR and VR technologies bring the immersion of cultural experiences, AR technology is gradually finding its way in creative fields, becoming part of cultural creativity.” 根据文章最后一段“As we have access to many digital resources, we can use them to...as well as products that show Dunhuang's art and features.” 故选A。 根据第二段最后一句“She made many friends from China, which gradually solved her obstacles in language communication and made herself better adapted to life in China.” 根据第三段第二句“...she discovered that the language she had spent two years learning is actually the Chongqing dialect ” 可知,Xiaoxiao 发现自己学了两年的汉语其实是重庆方言,画线词是对重庆方言的指代。再根据画线词的后半部分“... that even a Chongqing local would be hard to tell that she is a foreigner by just hearing her voice.” 故选A。 根据第三段倒数第二句“As Xiaoxiao thought Chongqing dialect was standard Chinese, she took considerable efforts to be good at it.”及第四段第一句“But she is more interested in doing something that helps the two countries understand each other.” 根据第三段“Westerners look at the eyes and the mouth in equal measure, whereas Easterners favor the eyes and neglect the mouth.” 故选A。 故选A。 故填and。 根据时间状语从句“when his uncle, who worked in China, returned 3.________ endless praise for the Chinese lifestyle”可知,这里表示过去发生的事情,应用一般过去时。故填came。 故填with。 故填which。 couldn't wait to do... 故填to book。 故填an。 阅读理解 A (2024·江苏连云港高二上期中)This year's Beijing Culture Forum was held from Sept. 14 to 15 in the capital. For 26yearold Moldovan Gabriela Cojocaru, who has the Chinese nickname Li Xiaoxiao, Chongqing is the beginning of a dream. In September 2014, Xiaoxiao, who has studied ethnic dance and ballet since childhood, graduated from the Moldovan National Dance Academy, and several classmates joined her on a trip to China. However, she did not know any Chinese or even English. She made many friends from China, which gradually solved her obstacles in language communication and made herself better adapted to life in China. “I think as a foreigner, first you have to learn Chinese,” she said, “Then you can go to better understand the culture and the Chinese people.” But after learning what she thought was Chinese, she discovered that the language she had spent two years learning is actually the Chongqing dialect. Such is her delivery that even a Chongqing local would be hard to tell that she is a foreigner by just hearing her voice. As Xiaoxiao thought Chongqing dialect was standard Chinese, she took considerable efforts to be good at it. This “mistake” has turned out to be a lucky strike. But she is more interested in doing something that helps the two countries understand each other. As such, she introduced Chinese food or Chongqing food, and stories about China to her friends in Moldova. She plans to introduce the history and specialties of Moldova, such as Moldo van wine, to the Chinese. She hopes to let more people know that this country actually has a rich history of more than 5,000 years of winemaking. “I'd love to do it,” she said. “I will continue to strengthen the culture of the two countries and hope that the two countries will become better and better.” 4.Why does Xiaoxiao make Chinese friends? A.To study more about ethnic dance. B.To appreciate more about new cultures. C.To learn more local dialects. D.To communicate with others more easily. 5.What does the underlined word “delivery” mean in paragraph 3? A.Dialect. B.Ballet. C.Dream. D.Mistake. 6.Which of the following best describes Xiaoxiao according to the text? A.Cautious and smart. B.Humorous and creative. C.Friendly and optimistic. D.Hardworking and responsible. 7.Where can the text be found? A.In a biography. B.In a culture magazine. C.In a history book. D.In a novel. 特色食品,特产 重点短语 adapt to 适应 turn out to be 结果是 语块积累 with the rapid development 随着高速发展 take considerable efforts to do sth 花费相当大的努力做某事 长难句分析 But after learning what she thought was Chinese, she discovered that the language she had spent two years learning is actually the Chongqing dialect. after是介词,what 引导宾语从句,she thought 作插入语,主句中that引导宾语从句,从句中she had spent two years learning是省略掉that或which的定语从句,修饰先行词the language。 C (2024·黑龙江齐齐哈尔高二下阶段练习)People from East Asia tend to have more difficulty than those from Europe in distinguishing facial expressions — and a new report published online in Current Biology explains why. Rachael Jack, University of Glasgow researcher, said that rather than scanning evenly across a face as Westerners do, Easterners fix their attention on the eyes. “We show that Easterners and Westerners look at different face features to read facial expressions,” Jack said. “Westerners look at the eyes and the mouth in equal measure, whereas Easterners favor the eyes and neglect the mouth.” According to Jack and her colleagues, the discovery shows that human communication of emotion is more complex than previously believed. As a result, facial expressions that had been considered universally recognizable cannot be used to reliably convey emotion in crosscultural situations. The researchers studied cultural differences in the recognition of facial expressions by recording the eye movements of 13 Western Caucasian and 13 East Asian people while they observed pictures of expressive faces and put them into categories: happy, sad, surprised, fearful, disgusted, angry, or neutral. They compared how accurately participants read those facial expressions using their particular eye movement strategies. It turned out that Easterners focused much greater attention on the eyes and made significantly more errors than did Westerners. “The cultural difference in eye movements that they show is probably a reflection of cultural difference in facial expressions,” Jack said. “Our data suggest that whereas Westerners use the whole face to convey emotion, Easterners use the eyes more and mouth less.” In short, the data show that facial expressions are not universal signals of human emotion. From here on, examining how cultural factors have diversified these basic social skills will help our understanding of human emotion. Otherwise, when it comes to communicating emotions across cultures, Easterners and Westerners will find themselves lost in translation. 8.The discovery shows that Westerners ________. A.consider facial expressions universally reliable B.pay equal attention to the eyes and the mouth C.observe the eyes and the mouth in different ways D.have more difficulty in recognizing facial expressions 9.What were the people asked to do in the study? A.To make a face at each other. B.To get their faces impressive. C.To observe the researchers' faces. D.To classify some face pictures. 10.In comparison with Westerners, Easterners are likely to ________. A.examine the eyes more attentively B.study the mouth more frequently C.do translation more successfully D.read facial expressions more correctly 11.What can be the best title for the passage? A.The Eye as the Window to the Soul B.Effective Methods to Develop Social Skills C.Cultural Differences in Reading Emotions D.How to Increase Crosscultural Understanding [二次精读] 重点单词 distinguish /dɪ'stɪɡwɪʃ/ v. 认出;区别 evenly /'iːvnli/ adv. 均匀地 neglect /nɪ'ɡlekt/ v. 忽略 disgusted /dɪs'ɡʌstɪd/ adj. (使)多样化 重点短语 fix one's attention on 集中注意力于…… as a result 因此 in short 总之;简而言之 语块积累 put them into categories 把它们分类 when it comes to 当提到…… find themselves lost in translation 发现自己迷失在翻译中 长难句分析 As a result, facial expressions that had been considered universally recognizable cannot be used to reliably convey emotion in crosscultural situations. that引导定语从句,修饰先行词facial expressions,to reliably convey emotion in crosscultural situations在句中作主语facial expressions的补足语。 Ⅱ.七选五 (2024·浙江温州高二下期中) Engaging with the past Imagine you're at home, you start a roleplaying game where you can enjoy views of the Nanjing Qinhuai Lantern Festival, completing set tasks along the Qinhuai River. This is one way for video games to enjoy the traditional Chinese culture without having to travel there. __1__Perfect World Games, an online gaming company, recently invited a group of heritage experts including Chen Haitao, a designer from the Dunhuang Academy; and Zhou Xianguang, an inheritor of Longquan sword intangible (非物质的) cultural heritage — to Beijing to discuss new ways to promote traditional Chinese culture. This year, Zhou was invited to submit designs for swords in its online mobile game Jade Dynasty. They kept the features of swords that were used during the Tang Dynasty but absorbed fairy and knightthemed elements from the game.__2___ That enabled players to know another aspect of Chinese heritage. Zhou says, “Since games are welcomed by young people, we can make them familiar with traditional culture as they play. __3___” The trend toward combining games with cultural heritage started decades ago.__4__Traditional culture once served merely as a background to the gameplay, and failed to offer a detailed experience. Now the company digs out details and divides them into small sections, and focuses on their unique cultural points, so players can gain a deeper experience. __5__Some overseas players also have a strong interest in Chinese culture, but may find it too difficult to understand. So the company tries to convey the culture in ways they are familiar with to help them better understand. A.And that's not all. B.These games are also available to players overseas. C.However, these early attempts were described as “vague”(含糊的). D.Games featuring traditional culture attract more young players. E.Several decades ago, the practice of swordmaking nearly died out. F.Besides, some figures seen in Dunhuang's wall paintings were also added to the mobile game. G.It increases the number of channels available to spread knowledge about our cultural heritage.
