Every day as the sun rises, Ma Hongyi, a 66-year-old farmer, can be seen patrolling (巡逻) Yuncheng Salt Lake with his dog in Yuncheng city, North China’s Shanxi province.
Ma still remembers the day when he first saw two big pink birds wandering through the water. “I had never seen such pretty birds. They were even taller than me, with long wings,” Ma recalls. He was later told that the birds were flamingos, a rare sight in China, which were listed on the International Union for Protection of Nature’s red list of endangered species in 2013. From that day on, Ma started his second career as a volunteer to prevent human beings from interfering with the wildlife. “The birds are attracted by the good environment,” Ma says. “I will do my best to protect the lake so that birds can come here every year.”
Yuncheng Salt Lake covers an area of 132 square kilometers and used to serve as a salt production base. As the country began attaching greater importance to environmental protection, an ecological (生态的) protection and development center was set up in 2012 to carry out regular ecological protection and restoration (修复) of the lake. “The greatest value of the Salt Lake lies in its ecology, which should be properly restored and protected,” says Chu Xianghao, mayor of the city. The lake area hosts 292 types of wild animals, along with 782 plant varieties, some of which are newly recorded species in the country.
After patrolling the lake as volunteer for over four years, Ma was employed by the local government to help with wildlife protection in 2019. “The lake’s ecology is getting better,” Ma says, adding that he looks forward to the arrival of the flamingos every year. “Some of them are my old friends”, he says.
24. Why does Ma patrol Yuncheng Salt Lake every day?
A. To serve as a keeper of the lake. B. To observe the rare flamingos closely.
C. To admire the scenery around the lake. D. To come across the flamingos again.
25. What does the underlined phrase “interfering with” in Para 2 probably mean?
A. Bringing benefits to. B. Losing control of. C. Sharing space with. D. Causing problems to.
26. What can be inferred about Yuncheng Salt Lake from Para 3?
A. It is still used as a salt production base. B. The restoration of it will be carried out soon.
C. The protection of its ecology is of great importance. D. It’s home to 292 types of endangered wildlife.
27. Which word can best describe Ma?
A. Creative. B. Responsible. C. Generous. D. Humorous.
C
Rejection (拒绝) is a universal experience, but the pain of it can feel so individual. No matter how many times you have experienced it, being told you didn’t get the job or that a date doesn’t want to see you again is always hurtful.
Historically, the pain that comes with rejection has been a useful tool. For our ancestors, being kept away from a group would have been a death sentence, since it was difficult to survive alone. Thus, the brain likely developed an alarming system to warn us when we were at risk of being rejected. Those who experienced rejection as more painful gained an advantage since they were more likely to adjust their behavior to remain in the group.
Being rejected has far smaller consequences now than it did thousands of years ago. Still, we read it as a threat to our health. The reason why it hurts is the same reason why we experience pain when we step on a sharp object. Research which compared brain activity of people who had experienced rejection with that of people who had experienced physical pain showed that many of the same regions of the brain lit up. The pain is a warning that something is damaging our health.
Concern with rejection is perfectly normal, but being overly worried can affect the quality of our life. If you take rejection personally, your self-worth will suffer; but if you blame it on the general injustice of the world, it will make you angry and bitter. Therefore, it is necessary to do a realistic analysis on what the problem is. If someone doesn’t call you back, don’t jump to the conclusion that they don’t want to talk to you. They might be sick or busy.
Rejection is a normal part of everyone’s life. Instead of seeing the shame that comes with rejection as a negative emotion, see it as a sign that your brain is working exactly how it should be.
28. How did the pain of rejection help our ancestors survive?
A. By increasing the safety of living alone.
B. By showing the consequence of teamwork.
C. By reminding them to change their behavior.
D. By warning them to keep away from danger.
29. What does the research suggest about rejection and physical pain?
A. They are both a cause of brain damage.
B. They are both a warning to our survival.
C. They recall the same suffering in the past.
D. They produce the same response in our brain.
30. What does the author advise us to do about rejection?
A. Analyze it reasonably. B. Doubt it bravely.
C. Ignore it immediately. D. Take it personally.
31. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A. Rejection: Whose Fault Is It? B. Rejection: A Shame or Not?
C. How Can We Avoid Rejection? D. Why Does Rejection Hurt So Much?
D
Artificial intelligence(AI)models have long surpassed (超过) just creating text responses and images. Now, with only one sentence, OpenAI’s latest text-to-video model, Sora, can turn your words into video with good visual quality while faithfully following your content instructions.
Sora is said to perform better than many other existing models with similar functions. The Al model can create video at suitable aspect ratios (屏幕高宽比) for different devices, such as both widescreen videos and vertical videos that we usually see on social media. It also lets users quickly test out content in lower quality before making the high-quality version, which helps speed up output.
Aside from this, its ability to present videos in a realistic and smooth manner is amazing. Sora can create detailed scenes with several characters, scientific types of motion, and accurate subject and background details while generating multiple shots with a single video. Beyond the user’s requests, it also understands how these elements exist in the real world. For example, reflections in the water changes as a woman walks by.
Sora’s performance wouldn’t be possible without its helpful assistant, ChatGPT, which transforms simple sentences into detailed descriptions. improving the accuracy of output according to the user’s prompts (提示语).
However the current model isn’t perfect. It may have trouble accurately showing how things move in a complicated scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if someone eats part of a cookie in a Sora-made video, the cookie might not look like it’s been bitten into. The model might mix up directions like left and right, and find it hard to describe events in the right order.
As of February, Sora is still in the testing stage of development. OpenAI is now inviting cybersecurity professionals to make random attacks on Sora’s system, aiming to test the model’s possible weaknesses and risks. Sora has also been open to some visual artists, designers and filmmakers. Their feedback (反馈) will assist OpenAI in enhancing the model to better serve creative professionals.
32. What is the main focus of paragraphs 2-3?
A. Sora’s strengths. B. Sora’s variety.
C. Sora’s development. D. Sora’s techniques.
33. How does ChatGPT contributes to Sora’s capabilities?
A. By specifying user input. B. By providing verbal feedback.
C. By examining sample videos. D. By improving video quality.
34. Why does the author provide the example in paragraph 5?
A. To stress Sora’s potential safety risks.
B. To illustrate Sora’s existing limitations.
C. To show Sora’s perfect performance.
D. To explain the concept of a space time patch.
35. What can we know about Sora up to now?
A. It has been made available to various industries.
B. Its commercial release has been called off.
C. It has exposed alarming security issues.
D. It is undergoing testing and improvement.

And they met through her sister’s husband, who was Julio Cesar’s cousin. The couple decided to get married on February 7th, 1941. They didn’t invite many people to their wedding because the relatives of the bride and groom did not agree with the marriage. Today they have a huge family of five children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. They believe that life is better when the foundations of the family are built on love and respect.

24 Why does Ma patrol Yuncheng Salt Lake every day?
C. Generous. D. Humorous.
A 25. D 26. C 27. B

C 29. D 30. A 31. B

根据文章第二段“Historically, the pain that comes with rejection has been a useful tool.
根据文章第三段“Research which compared brain activity of people who had experienced rejection with that of people who had experienced physical pain showed that many of the same regions of the brain lit up. The pain is a warning that something is damaging our health. (研究将经历过拒绝的人和经历过身体疼痛的人的大脑活动进行了比较,结果表明,大脑中许多相同的区域都活跃起来了。疼痛是一种警告,表明有什么东西正在损害我们的健康。)”可知,经历过拒绝的人和经历过身体疼痛的人的大脑会对拒绝和疼痛有同样的反应。故选D。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Therefore, it is necessary to do a realistic analysis on what the problem is. If someone doesn’t call you back, don’t jump to the conclusion that they don’t want to talk to you. They might be sick or busy. (因此,有必要对问题所在进行现实的分析。如果有人没有给你回电话,不要妄下结论说他们不想和你说话。他们可能生病了或者很忙。)”可知,作者建议我们被拒绝时,我们应该合理分析原因。故选A。
根据文章第一段“Rejection (拒绝) is a universal experience, but the pain of it can feel so individual. No matter how many times you have experienced it, being told you didn’t get the job or that a date doesn’t want to see you again is always hurtful. (被拒绝是一种普遍的经历,但被拒绝的痛苦却因人而异。不管你经历过多少次,被告知你没有得到这份工作,或者约会对象不想再见到你,总是让你很伤心。)”以及最后一段“Rejection is a normal part of everyone’s life. Instead of seeing the shame that comes with rejection as a negative emotion, see it as a sign that your brain is working exactly how it should be. (被拒绝是每个人生活中正常的一部分。不要把被拒绝带来的羞耻感看作是一种消极情绪,而要把它看作是你的大脑正在正常工作的信号。)”可知,文章主要介绍被拒绝是生活中一件很常见的事情,不要觉得被拒绝是一件可耻的事情。故选B。

However, the current model isn’t perfect.
A 33. A 34. B 35. D
