Graduating from high school is a milestone event. Most students are 18 when they graduate, but one Pennsylvania boy from Bensalem, a suburb of Philadelphia, just graduated and he is only nine and he is one of the youngest ever to do so.
David Balogun recently received his diploma from the Reach Cyber Charter (特许) School in Harrisburg where he was studying remotely. He has already started taking college courses. Besides being excellent in school, David loves computer programming, science, martial arts, and playing the piano.
David’s parents have advanced degrees but it is demanding to raise a child with an extraordinary intellectual gift. “I had to get outside of the box,” David’s mother, Ronya Balogun, told the local television station. “Play pillow fights when you’re not supposed to, and throw the balls in the house. He’s a 9-year-old with a brain that just has the capacity to understand and comprehend a lot of concepts that are beyond his years and sometimes beyond my understanding.”
Putting David in the charter school was a no-brainer for his parents. “When he heard the STEM program, at seven years old, he was jumping up and down. I said ‘Okay, this is where we’re going, this is what we’re doing.’ He loved it from the first moment. It’s been an amazing journey.” she added.
David’s remarkable education began two years ago, when he became a student at the charter school. Shortly after he began attending the school, David placed out of the elementary and middle school courses and began high school.
David already knows that he wants to be an astrophysicist But he has to complete his education first. While he has already completed a semester at Buck County Community College, his parents are researching college and university options that will be more challenging. They are looking into Ivy League schools including the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Harvard, but since David is still only nine, he can’t live on campus.
24.What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A.Raising David has been challenging. B.David discourages his mother completely.
C.Teaching David has proved efficient. D.David grows faster than other children.
25.How did David react when he heard about the STEM program?
A.Abnormal. B.Delighted. C.Resistant. D.Confused.
26.What is a must for David before becoming an astrophysicist?
A.Being expert in computers. B.Developing multiple hobbies.
C.Getting used to distance learning. D.Finishing school first.
27.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.The Universe Arouses a Boy’s Curiosity.
B.Parenting Contributes to a Boy’s Achievement.
C.9-Year-Old Boy Graduated from High School.
D.Age Restriction for Going to College Is Removed.
【答案】24.A 25.B 26.D 27.C
根据第三段中“David’s parents have advanced degrees but it is demanding to raise a child with an extraordinary intellectual gift. (大卫的父母都有高等学位,但要培养一个具有非凡智力天赋的孩子是很困难的)”和“Play pillow fights when you’re not supposed to, and throw the balls in the house.(在不该玩的时候玩枕头大战,把球扔到屋里)”可推断, 抚养大卫一直很有挑战性。故选A。
根据第四段中“When he heard the STEM program, at seven years old, he was jumping up and down.(当他七岁听到STEM项目时,他欢呼雀跃)”可知,听到STEM项目时,大卫非常高兴。故选B。
根据最后一段中“David already knows that he wants to be an astrophysicist (天体物理学家). But he has to complete his education first. (大卫已经知道他想成为一名天体物理学家。但他必须先完成学业)”可知, 在成为天体物理学家前, 大卫要先完成学业。故选D。
27.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“but one Pennsylvania boy from Bensalem, a suburb of Philadelphia, just graduated and he is only nine and he is one of the youngest ever to do so. (但一个来自费城郊区本塞勒姆的宾夕法尼亚州男孩刚刚毕业,年仅9岁,是有史以来毕业年龄最小的学生之一)”以及通读全文可知,本文主要讲述了一位来自宾夕法尼亚州的男孩9岁就高中毕业的故事。由此可知,C项“9-Year-Old Boy Graduated from High School(9岁男孩高中毕业)”适合作本文标题。故选C。

Digital nomads are remote workers from rich countries who move every few months in search of tropical climes, cultural experiences and cheaper living. During the pandemic these travellers, often working in tech, flocked abroad. Top destinations are in Asia and Europe, but Latin America holds its own. Mexico City was the seventh-most-popular place in 2023.
Many residents are hostile to digital nomads. They see wealthy workers living like kings and pushing up prices. In Cuauhtémoc rents rose by 35% between June 2022 and 2023, compared with 14% for the city as a whole. Cultural complaints follow. Tech bros speak only English, which can annoy locals.
Yet demonising (妖魔化) nomads is wrong-headed. Rent rises are largely thanks to other factors. Medellín needs around 14,500 new homes this year, but is building only some 2,000, according to Camacol Antioquia, a trade body. The link between short-term rentals and the housing market is overblown, says Eugene Towle of Softec, a Mexican research firm. Airbnb takes up just 3% of the capital’s rental housing.
Overall, like other immigrants, nomads bring more benefits than downsides. Teleworkers put their earnings into the local economy. In Medellín, they spend $1,400 a month on average, compared with $575 for a local. Josh, from Scotland, says he spends $1,500 on rent and another $800 a month on a chef, kick-boxing instructor and salsa teacher.
Highly-skilled immigrants, as most digital nomads are, boost innovation too. Newcomers’ ideas help develop products and introduce their host cities to global markets. In Medellín, Joel Elster, a Brit, trains locals in sales. One of them now earns $5,000 a month, he claims. And it is hard to pin cultural decline or crime on nomads. “They don’t come to destroy the city because they live here,” says Mr González.
Officials like Mr González see their job as showing locals the benefits and managing the downsides. Mexico City, which was filled with global talent long before the laptop crowd turned up, is taking a more laissez-faire approach. Foreigners made Mexico’s capital lively throughout the 20th century.
28.What’s the main cause of the rent rise?
A.Digital nomads. B.Tight market. C.Illegal letting. D.Poor management.
29.What can we learn about digital nomads from the passage?
A.They discriminate against locals. B.They bring more harm than good.
C.They promote the local economy. D.They weaken national confidence.
30.The author illustrates that nomads promote innovation mainly by ______.
A.doing surveys B.using an example C.reasoning logically D.analyzing data
31.What does the underlined word laissez-faire mean in the last paragraph?
A.Extreme. B.Inactive. C.Indifferent. D.Open.
根据第三段“Medellín needs around 14,500 new homes this year, but is building only some 2,000, according to Camacol Antioquia, a trade body.(根据行业组织Camacol Antioquia的数据,Medellín今年需要大约14500套新房,但只建造了大约2000套)”可知,房租上涨的主要原因是市场吃紧。故选B。
根据第四段“Teleworkers put their earnings into the local economy. In Medellín, they spend $1,400 a month on average, compared with $575 for a local. Josh, from Scotland, says he spends $1,500 on rent and another $800 a month on a chef, kick-boxing instructor and salsa teacher.(远程工作者将他们的收入投入到当地经济中。在Medellín,他们平均每月花费1400美元,而当地居民为575美元。来自苏格兰的乔希说,他每月的房租是1500美元,另外每月还要花800美元请厨师、跆拳道教练和萨尔萨舞老师)”可知,数字游民促进了当地经济。故选C。
30.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Highly-skilled immigrants, as most digital nomads are, boost innovation too. Newcomers’ ideas help develop products and introduce their host cities to global markets. In Medellín, Joel Elster, a Brit, trains locals in sales. One of them now earns $5,000 a month, he claims. And it is hard to pin cultural decline or crime on nomads. “They don’t come to destroy the city because they live here,” says Mr González.(像大多数数字游民一样,高技能移民也促进了创新。新来者的想法有助于开发产品,并将其所在城市介绍给全球市场。在Medellín,英国人Joel Elster培训当地人销售。他说,其中一人现在每月收入5000美元。而且很难将文化衰落或犯罪归咎于游牧民族。González先生说:“他们不是来破坏这座城市的,因为他们住在这里。”)”可知,作者主要通过实例来说明游牧民族对创新的促进作用。故选B。
31.词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“Mexico City, which was filled with global talent long before the laptop crowd turned up(早在笔记本电脑人群出现之前,墨西哥城就已经充满了全球人才)”可知,墨西哥城满了全球人才,说明墨西哥城采取的是开放的方式。

In the 1920s, the science fiction hero Buck Rogers flew across the pages of comic books using a jetpack It was a vision of the future that has yet to actually be created. Now that we are living in the 21st century, people still aren’t using jetpacks to get around. Lots of inventors have tried to build working jetpacks over the years, but none of them have ever worked as well as the one Buck Rogers wore in the comic books.
One jetpack that was recently shown was the Martin jetpack. This jetpack was built by an inventor from New Zealand named Glenn Martin. Martin’s 120 kilogram jetpack holds about twenty liters of gasoline and can fly for about thirty minutes. Two large fans pointing toward the sky create a jet of air that the jetpack operator flies on. The Martin jetpack may be too loud and too heavy for the taste of some people. However, it really works, and it is on the market today.
Another jetpack that was shown recently is Raymond Li’s Jetlev-Flyer. This is a jetpack that propels (推进) a person into the air by shooting out a jet of water rather than a jet of air. The Jetlev-Flyer is smaller and lighter than the Martin jetpack. This is due to the fact that the engine and water pump for the jetpack is on a boat that is pulled along behind the operator. In a test of his jetpack, Li flew almost ten meters high and could travel forward at a speed of 35 kph.
Neither the Martin jetpack nor the Jetlev-Flyer are going to be big sellers. Both costing over $100,000 each, they are just too expensive for the average person.
32.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Buck Rogers is still popular.
B.People can’t fly with jetpacks.
C.People don’t travel with jetpacks.
D.Better jetpacks are invented later.
33.Which of the following is a feature of the Martin jetpack?
A.It is designed with one large fan on it.
B.It can hold more than fifty liters of gas.
C.It propels the operator on jets of water.
D.It makes too much noise for some people.
34.What can be inferred about Raymond Li?
A.He is not afraid of height.
B.He works with Glenn Martin.
C.He knows how to fly a plane.
D.He works to make boats.
35.What can we conclude about the two jetpacks?
A.Their inventors came from the same country.
B.Thy are both operated in the same way.
C.They are certain to sell well in the market.
D.Their prices will scare away many people.
【答案】32.C 33.D 34.A 35.D
根据第一段中“In the 1920s, the science fiction hero Buck Rogers flew across the pages of comic books using a jetpack (喷气背包). It was a vision of the future that has yet to actually be created. Now that we are living in the 21st century, people still aren’t using jetpacks to get around. (20世纪20年代,科幻英雄巴克·罗杰斯用喷气背包飞过漫画书的书页。这是一个尚未实现的未来愿景。现在我们生活在21世纪,人们仍然没有使用喷气背包出行)”可知,第一段主要告诉我们人们现在还没有使用喷气背包出行。故选C。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The Martin jetpack may be too loud and too heavy for the taste of some people. (马丁喷气背包可能对一些人来说声音太大、太重)”可知,马丁喷气背包对一些人来说噪音太大。故选D。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“In a test of his jetpack, Li flew almost ten meters high and could travel forward at a speed of 35 kph. (在一次喷气背包测试中,李飞到了近10米高,并能以每小时35公里的速度向前飞行)”可知,李飞到了近10米高,由此可以推断出他不恐高。故选A。
根据最后一段中“Neither the Martin jetpack nor the Jetlev-Flyer are going to be big sellers. Both costing over $100,000 each, they are just too expensive for the average person. (马丁喷气背包和Jetlev-Flyer都不会成为大卖品。它们的价格都超过10万美元,对于普通人来说太贵了)”由此可推断出,它们的价格会让很多人望而却步。故选D。
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
How to protect your privacy when you travel
It hasn’t been an easy year for the privacy of travelers, at least so far. Data leaks, surveillance (监视) worries and those troublesome cameras in airplane seatbacks and hotel rooms are enough to make passengers anxious. 36 Fortunately, there are ways to safeguard your privacy on land and in the air. These tips can help you deal with these troubles.
37 “It’s not clever to declare on Facebook that you’re travelling to somewhere, reminding a wide range of people that your property is sitting empty,” says Danny McLoughlin. “That puts your security at risk.” Wait until you return to start posting vacation photos.
Some homeowners renting their residences may install security cameras. Travelers should find out if the hosts are required to disclose the presence of surveillance devices. If the rental comes with cameras, ensure they aren’t in a sensitive area by conducting a careful sweep. 38
Although you can’t control how a hotel or airline handles—or mishandles—your data, you can take reasonable steps to ensure the information it has won’t get you into trouble. 39 But some of the worst data leaks happen when you’re staying at a hotel. For example, a hotel clerk sometimes asks for your name and then announces your room number after you’ve checked in. You’re better off handing the employee your ID when he or she asks for your name and asking him/her to write your room number on a piece of paper. Why? 40 Just to be sure, never leave the customer copy behind. You can destroy it later, but keep it under your control.
A.It’s never been better.
B.Perhaps they shouldn’t be.
C.Never broadcast your journey on social media.
D.There are other people on the other side of the wall.
E.However, travelers are not powerless against these threats.
F.Some travelers only offer the bare minimum, such as a P.O.box instead of a home address.
G.Report anything doubtful to the host immediately—and if you don’t like what you hear, leave.
36.根据上文“Data leaks, surveillance(监视) worries and those troublesome cameras in airplane seatbacks and hotel rooms are enough to make passengers anxious.(数据泄露、对监视的担忧,以及飞机座椅靠背和酒店房间里那些令人讨厌的摄像头,这些都足以让旅客感到焦虑。)”可知,上文提到旅行者面临数据泄露等问题感到焦虑;而下文“Fortunately, there are ways to safeguard your privacy on land and in the air.(幸运的是,无论是在陆地上还是在空中,都有一些方法可以保护你的隐私。)” E“However, travelers are not powerless against these threats.(然而,旅行者并非对这些威胁无能为力。)”
37.根据下文““It’s not clever to declare on Facebook that you’re travelling to somewhere, reminding a wide range of people that your property is sitting empty,” says Danny McLoughlin. “That puts your security at risk.” Wait until you return to start posting vacation photos. (Danny McLoughlin说:“在脸书上宣布你要去某个地方旅行可不是明智之举,这会提醒很多人你的房子正空着,这会让你的安全面临风险。”等到你回来之后再开始发布度假照片吧。)”可知,下文提到不要在脸书上宣布自己去旅行了,等回来再发照片,可知此段讲的是不要在社交媒体上公布自己的旅行信息。选项C“Never broadcast your journey on social media.(永远不要在社交媒体上公布你的行程。)”
38.根据上文“Some homeowners renting their residences may install security cameras. Travelers should find out if the hosts are required to disclose the presence of surveillance devices. If the rental comes with cameras, ensure they aren’t in a sensitive area by conducting a careful sweep.(一些出租房屋的房主可能会安装安全摄像头。旅行者应该了解房东是否被要求告知是否存在监控设备。如果租的房子配有摄像头,要通过仔细检查确保它们不在敏感区域。)”可知,上文讲述的是租房时遇到摄像头的情况。选项G“Report anything doubtful to the host immediately—and if you don’t like what you hear, leave.(如果有任何可疑情况,立即向房东报告——如果你对听到的解释不满意,就离开。)”
39.根据上文“Although you can’t control how a hotel or airline handles—or mishandles—your data, you can take reasonable steps to ensure the information it has won’t get you into trouble.(虽然你无法控制酒店或航空公司如何处理——或错误处理——你的数据,但你可以采取合理的措施,确保他们所掌握的信息不会给你带来麻烦。)” F“Some travelers only offer the bare minimum, such as a P.O.box instead of a home address.(一些旅行者只提供最基本的信息,比如用邮政信箱代替家庭住址。)”
40.根据上文“For example, a hotel clerk sometimes asks for your name and then announces your room number after you’ve checked in. You’re better off handing the employee your ID when he or she asks for your name and asking him/her to write your room number on a piece of paper. Why?(例如,酒店职员有时会询问你的姓名,然后在你办理入住手续后公布你的房间号。当职员询问你的姓名时,你最好把身份证递给他或她,并让他或她把你的房间号写在一张纸上。为什么呢?)”可知,上文提问为什么要让员工把房间号写在纸上。选项D“There are other people on the other side of the wall.(墙的另一边可能还有其他人在听呢。)”

The snow leopard, a rare large cat which has pale grey fur patterned with dark blotches and rings, is native 56 the high-altitude regions of central Asia. They are solitary (独 居的) animals known for their incredible ability 57 (climb) steep cliffs. Due to habitat loss and climate change, the species 58 (list) as endangered in 1972 and reclassified as vulnerable (脆弱的) in 2017, and is still considered to be in decline.
Conservation efforts are 59 (current) being carried out to protect them. But snow leopards range across vast 60 (area) of remote, mountainous landscapes, making them one of the most difficult to study in the wild. India’s first-ever survey of snow leopards has estimated that there are more than seven hundred of the big cats 61 (live) in the country’s six mountainous regions.
The survey was conducted between 2019 and 2023 and led by the Wildlife Trust of India, 62 set up 1971 camera traps covering 120, 000 square kilometers of habitat. These regular assessments offer valuable insights for identifying challenges, addressing threats and formulating 63 (effect) conservation strategies.
“The snow leopard is a beautiful and mysterious animal, but it’s far more than that,” says George Schaller, the biologist who took 64 first photo of a snow leopard in Pakistan in 1971. “It tends to 65 (symbol) an area, so if you protect it, you protect an area for the benefit of all the wildlife and local communities.”
56.to 57.to climb 58.was listed 59.currently 60.areas 61.living 62.which 63.effective 64.the 65.symbolise/symbolize
be native to“原产于”是固定搭配,其中to为介词。故填to。
故填to climb。
故填was listed。
本句已有谓语动词are,所以live“生活”用非谓语形式,逻辑主语seven hundred of the big cats与live之间是主动关系,用现在分词,作后置定语。故填living。
故填which。
故填the。
tend to do sth.“倾向于做某事”是固定用法,所以此处用动词原形symbolize或symbolise“象征”,to symbolize/symbolise作tends的宾语。故填symbolize/symbolise。

Peter was really excited about going to see the Golden Gate Bridge. He had always thought of a bridge that was golden, something that would be really impressive because of its famous name. But his dad just smiled as if he knew something Peter didn’t.
The next day was sunny and perfect for their trip. As they drove closer, the outline of the bridge appeared on the horizon. Peter’s excitement grew with every mile, his mind picturing the bridge in shades of gold.
However, as the bridge came into full view, Peter’s excitement was mixed with confusion. The big bridge across the water was bright red, a color that stood out a lot from the golden picture he had imagined. His confusion turned into a question directed at his father, “The bridge isn’t golden. Why then is it called the Golden Gate Bridge?” He thought the name should match the color of the bridge.
His father, with a mixed feeling of amusement and patience, explained the true meaning behind the name, “The name doesn’t mean the bridge is golden, Peter. It’s named after the Golden Gate, the natural entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the sea.”
Peter wanted to know more, “But why is that entrance called the Golden Gate?”
His father launched into the history behind the name, “A long time ago, many people were drawn to California by the promise of gold. They sailed into the bay through that entrance, seeing it as a gateway to wealth. That’s why they called it the Golden Gate.”
Peter listened attentively. The history was fascinating but didn’t satisfy his initial expectation. As they stood there, with the red bridge as a backdrop (背景), Peter couldn’t help but still think that the bridge should match the golden dream that had drawn so many to California, both in physical appearance and in spirit. When he got home, he sent a letter to a California newspaper.
注意:
1.续写词数为150左右;
In the letter he explained his thoughts and suggestions about the color of the bridge.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After published, Peter’s letter sparked a heated debate in the community.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the letter he explained his thoughts and suggestions about the color of the bridge. He wrote carefully, explaining how the Golden Gate Bridge with its current red color didn’t reflect the golden ambition it was meant to symbolize. He thought that for a special event, they could paint the bridge gold for a short time, so it would match its name. What’s more, Peter included his letter in an envelope with some money he saved, as a token of his commitment to the cause. He hoped his words would resonate with others.
After published, Peter’s letter sparked a heated debate in the community. Some agreed with him, arguing that the name “Golden Gate Bridge” should reflect its appearance, while others cherished the iconic red color, which had become a symbol of San Francisco. As the discussion grew, an artist made a big painting showing both the red bridge and a gold one. The painting quickly became a point of interest, drawing visitors and further fueling the conversation. Peter’s simple question aroused a wave of creative and passionate responses from the community, showing that the bridge’s color was more than just a matter of appearance — it was a matter of identity and heritage.

D.Confused.

C.Getting used to distance learning. D.Finishing school first.
27.What is a suitable title for the text?

C.9-Year-Old Boy Graduated from High School.
D.Age Restriction for Going to College Is Removed.

D.Open.

注意:
1.续写词数为150左右;
In the letter he explained his thoughts and suggestions about the color of the bridge.

29.What can we learn about digital nomads from the passage?
A.They discriminate against locals. B.They bring more harm than good.
C.They promote the local economy. D.They weaken national confidence.
30.The author illustrates that nomads promote innovation mainly by ______.
A.doing surveys B.using an example C.reasoning logically D.analyzing data
31.What does the underlined word laissez-faire mean in the last paragraph?
A.Extreme. B.Inactive. C.Indifferent. D.Open.

注意:
1.续写词数为150左右;
In the letter he explained his thoughts and suggestions about the color of the bridge.
