Has it been a good year for you?
Well guys, the school year is nearly over. What's the most interesting thing you've done?
I had an amazing time working on a city farm. City farms are a great way for people to get experience of life in the country. There I learned about animals and plants. Anyway, I took care of the horses on the farm!1 was really proud of myself when I helped an excited girl ride a horse for the first time. It really meant a lot to her —and to me.
I made my first film this year using my phone. My friends supported me a lot. First, I had to think of an idea. Everyone said that the film needed to be short and simple. In the end, I decided to make a film called Into Space. It's now on the school website.
In April, my uncle invited me to climb the highest mountain in my city. It takes about four hours to climb it, so we set off at about 7 a. m. to avoid climbing in the heat of the midday sun. It was a lot more challenging than I had expected. I couldn't move my legs after two hours' walk Luckily, I didn't give up halfway. The views from the top were really fantastic! What an important lesson!

A. The value of not giving up.
B. The joy of taking photos at the top.
C. The need to climb mountains in the afternoon.
D. The importance of avoiding the heat of the midday sun.

The directors(负责人)of tourism administration(旅游局)are trying to make their provinces and areas more well-known through social media. They appear in short videos, wearing special costume or even a space suit. Their short films are all set in exciting places and the performances have beer well-received.
In one popular short film that got tens of thousands of likes, a woman is wearing whitehead-wear and a white dress of the Oroqen ethnic group(鄂伦春族)and walking in a snow-covered forest. DuBo, head of her local bureau(局)of culture and tourism in Heilongjiang, filmed herself as such to show Orogen ethnic customs. Du said she spent two hours shooting and shivering(颤抖)outside as temperatures were -20℃ during the filming, which was finally cut to under a minute. She said she hoped to show the beauty of snow and ice with the short film.
Liu Jiehua, a director in Anyang City, Henan Province, dressed as China's first recorded woman general in the Shang Dynasty to encourage more tourists to visit. Chen Guanyu, director in Artux City, Xinjiang, sent out the invitation to his hometown on horscback. With many other directors dressed in special clothing, director Dorje in Daofu County, Sichuan Province, came up with something different. One of his most famous photo shoots is in an astronaut suit.
From riding horses and dressing like astronauts to wearing special costumes, the normally serious officials are going all out to make local tourism come alive. Babies don't learn to talk just from hearing sounds. They are lip(嘴唇)readers too. It happens during the period when a baby's babbling(咿呀声)slowly changes from unclear voices into that first “mama” or “dada”. The babies have to find out how to shape their lips to make the sounds they are hearing, according to David from Florida Atlantic University, who led the study.
Clearly, it doesn't take them too long to understand the movements that match basic sounds. By their first birthdays, babies start changing back to look you in the eye again. It offers more clues that talking with babies face to face is very important for speech development more than turning on the latest baby DVD.
But David went a step further. He and his student Hansen tested nearly 180 babies, groups of them aged 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 months. How? They showed videos of a woman speaking in English to babies of English speakers. They found that when the speaker used English, the 4-month-old babies gazed (凝视) mostly into her eyes. The 6-month-old babies spent the same amounts (数量)of time looking at the eyes and the mouth. The 8-month-old babies and 10-month-old babies studied mostly the mouth. At 12 months, attention started changing back toward the speaker's eyes.
But what happened when these babies are used to English heard French? The 12-month-old babies studied the mouth longer, just like younger babies. They needed the extra information to understand the new sounds.
The continued lip reading shows the 12-month-old babies are fit for learning. Babies are so hard to study, says Duke University scientist Greg, who found the research so fantastic that he wants to know more.
27. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A. Babies might get its voice “mama”by lip reading.
B. Babies like to find out how to shape their lips.
C. Babies learn to talk just from hearing the sounds.
D. Babies communicate by using body languages.
28. Which of the following shows the right change of babies' eye gaze according to the text?
29. Babies need extra information to understand new sounds when ___________.
A. they're shown videos of a woman speaking
B. they're used to hearing their mother language
C. they're shown videos of a baby speaking
D. they're used to hearing a foreign language
30. Where can we read the article above?
A. In an interesting storybook. B. In a science magazine.
C. In a poster about education. D. In an English-French dictionary.

Dennis didn't feel like sleeping. He had gone to bed at the same time every night for as long as he could remember. He was tired of going to bed when his parents told him to. So one night, when fall seemed over, but it wasn't yet winter, he decided he would stay up!
What Dennis didn't realize is that staying awake at night is hard when your body needs to sleep.
He tried everything he could think of to stop himself from falling asleep. He tried counting wolves (if counting sheep makes you sleepy, then counting wolves must surely do the opposite), but unfortunately it made him even more tired. He started to suspect that it was the counting, and not the choice of animal, that made people sleepy.
Dennis was just about ready to give up when he heard a squeak(吱吱叫)from his hamster(仓鼠) Charlie. He went over to Charlie's cage, but it was empty. Dennis followed the sounds of squeaking until he found Charlie on the floor, looking behind the door. Dennis noticed that something back there was throwing things at Charlie! Coins, balls of paper, and even some stones were flying in Charlie's direction, as he squeaked.
"What's there, Charlie?"Dennis asked as he picked up the hamster and walked towards the door. What he saw made him wonder if he had actually fallen asleep and not realized it.
“It's a…it's a rabbit!”he said. No bigger than Charlie(and no smaller), the rabbit wore a yellow shirt, a tiny pair of green pants, and a hat.
"Why are you throwing things at my hamster, rabbit?"asked Dennis.
“Why do you keep a vicious(凶险的)hamster as a pet, human?"asked the rabbit. “Charlie is not vicious! More importantly, why are you in my room, rabbit?"asked Dennis. "That is an interesting question, human. ”
“My name is not 'human', it's Dennis. "Dennis said angrily. “I already know your name. And rabbits have names too!”
Dennis didn't say anything for a moment, and neither did the rabbit. It was an awkward (尴尬的) silence for everyone except Charlie who, as usual, had fallen asleep shortly after Dennis picked him up.
"Well, what is your name then?"asked Dennis.
31. Why did Dennis want to stay up one night?
A. Because he was too excited to fall asleep.
B. Because he had something important to do.
C. Because he felt tired of following his parents' order.
D. Because he thought staying up would make him more energetic.
32. Why does the writer use“…”in the sentence "It's a …it's a rabbit!"?
A. To express Dennis's sadness at night.
B. To express Dennis's surprise at the rabbit.
C. To show Dennis's regret of being awake.
D. To show Dennis's worry about his hamster.
33. Which is the right order of the following events?
① Dennis heard the sounds of squeaking.
② The rabbit threw balls of paper at Charlie.
③Dennis tried to count wolves to stay awake.
④ Charlie fell asleep shortly after Dennis picked him up.
A. ③④①② B. ④①③② c. ④③①② D. ③②①④
34. What can we know about the rabbit from the passage?
A. It was squeaking angrily. B. It was much bigger than Charlie.
C. It was wearing clothes. D. It was playing with Charlie.
35. What is the best title for the story?
A. Dennis' Unusual Night B. Ways to Stay Up Late
C. Dennis' Lovely Hamster D. Advice on Falling Asleep

The art of Chinese paper cutting, or jianzhi, has a history of thousands of years. The art form is said to date back to the Han Dynasty. During that time, paper was very expensive. During the Tang Dynasty, Chinese people started using paper for artistic expression. Paper cutting became popular.
Common themes of paper cutting include animals, plants and traditional Chinese characters like fu, shou and xi. They are often seen during Chinese New Year. In the past, paper cutting was usually used as decorations for festivals. It was put up on windows and doors for good luck.
Chinese paper cutting has become more than just a traditional art form. It is also a symbol of Chinese culture. In recent years, Chinese paper cutting has been enjoyed by people all over the world. It is not only for decorative purposes, but also in fashion, design, advertising and more areas.
Chinese paper cutting is a fragile(脆弱的)art form. On the one hand, the beautifully shaped designs can easily be broken. On the other hand, the traditional skills used to create them are at risk of being lost. Luckily, some people are trying to keep this tradition alive.
