She emerges, fist first, clutching a pair of bright blue children’s swimming goggles. She shakes them overhead, as if she has won a prize. Over the next hour, on a cloudy Saturday morning in July, the team of 15 — all over age 65, all women — hunts for trash across Mares Pond, a 28-acre kettle hole on Cape Cod, at depths of up to 8 feet. These are the Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage (OLAUG). Since 2017, the group, which accepts only older women as members, has made it its mission to remove trash from ponds across Cape Cod. The group’s existence is owed to Susan Baur, a retired psychologist. As a lifelong nature fan, she had begun swimming in ponds on the cape as a safer alternative to the ocean. However, between mud, darkness and snapping turtles, the world of the pond was at first one of anxiety for her. In 2017, on a whim, she rounded up two friends and a stranger with a kayak and together, they cleared a large amount of litter from a pond. Soon others joined them, and, like Baur, they found a sense of wonder in the pond cleanups. While many outsiders have expressed their gratitude to OLAUG for cleaning up the ponds, some have questioned why they refer to themselves as “old ladies”. Others have said she should open the group to all ages, and to men. Although she admits that it wasn’t initially a thoughtful choice she now believes that the “old lady” identity is a crucial part of what the group is about. “Over 65, if you’re healthy enough to do what we’re doing, it is the age of gratitude,” Baur says. “You are so grateful that you can still do this.” 24. Why was the group OLAUG founded? A. To promote an active way of life. B. To rescue children from the ponds. C. To clean up garbage in the ponds. D. To advocate swimming to keep fit. 25. What do we know about Susan Baur from the text? A. She longs for a quiet retired life. B. She cares about old ladies' life. C. She is keen on physical training. D. She is a nature-loving woman. 26. What is some people’s suggestion to the group? A. To be more inclusive. B. To broaden its business. C. To rename the group. D. To be more independent. 27. Why does Baur particularly care about their “old lady” identity? A. It helps to promote their image. B. It helps boost their sense of pride. C. It benefits their physical health. D. It helps them win more respect. C Ask students to describe their brain, and they’re likely to suggest a computer, a command center, or maybe a lightning-fast communications network. But they’d be better off thinking of the brain as a muscle that gets stronger with use. Researchers now understand that IQ isn’t fixed at birth. Just as we get more physically fit from exercising, we can build brainpower through the act of learning. Children who adopt what psychologist Carol Dweck calls a growth mindset understand that intelligence isn’t fixed but can be developed through effort. In Mindset, Dweck explains why students who have a growth mindset are more willing to tackle challenges, learn from failure, and see criticism as useful feedback (反馈) rather than an excuse to give up. This is the kind of thinking that keeps students motivated, even when learning is hard work. The good news is that even the mindset isn’t fixed. A growth mindset can be learned and enhanced by messages that praise persistence and set high expectations. For example, help students understand that challenging assignments will stretch their “thinking muscles.” At the same time, provide them with necessary support so they don’t get discouraged. It is widely believed that all brains are not equal and that context and ability influence learning. The brain connects new information to the old and can be changed by experience. Effective teaching strategies help students move toward higher-order thinking, or what neurologists call executive (执行) function. As professor Judy Willis, MD explains, “When educators offer students chances to put their learning into practice, particularly by engaging them in genuine, personally relevant activities accompanied by formative assessments and corrective feedback throughout a unit, the facts students learn are no longer rote (死记硬背) memory. Instead, these facts become solidly integrated into an interconnected memory framework, rather than being deserted due to lack of use.” Of course, all this brain activity is happening in a unique way for each student. By addressing learners’ individual needs, educators can help students strengthen the bonds that will lead to deeper understanding. 28. Why does the author compare the brain to a muscle? A. To demonstrate the brain possesses memory cells. B. To emphasize the brain transports information quickly. C. To show the brain can be strengthened through exercise. D. To illustrate the brain is an important organ of the body. 29. What are children with a growth mindset like according to Dweck? A. They have a tendency to shy away from trouble. B. They view barriers as opportunities for personal growth. C. They prefer positive feedback from others. D. They consider intelligence as an unchangeable quality. 30. Which of the following enhances executive function? A. Complete independence. B. Organizing activities personally. C. Engaging in direct interaction. D. Creative engagement. 31. What can be the best title for the text? A. Brainpower Building: Encourage a Growth Mindset B. IQ and Its Significant Influence on Learning C. The Growth Mindset: A Key to Difficulty-Solving D. The Significance of Executive Function in Education D Self-confidence is trusting in our abilities or qualities. It’s usually seen as a good thing. But is it possible that we might benefit from a little less confidence in our beliefs? For many years, Dr. Mark Leary, a neuroscientist at Duke University in Durham, N.C. , has studied the role of people’s beliefs in their behavior. He found overconfidence is very common, especially when it comes to what people believe to be true, and can lead us to disastrous decisions. In 1986, NASA believed that the risk of loss for any space flight was roughly 1 in 100,000. It was an overconfident belief and might have led to the explosion of the Challenger. The good news is that there’s a “vaccine (疫苗)” for overconfidence, and that’s what scientists call “intellectual humility”— recognizing that your beliefs could be wrong. A survey of 144 college students to measure their intellectual humility found that students who saw their thinking could be wrong tended to be more curious and more likely to seek out new knowledge. They ended up knowing more at the end of the day. But does it actually help you beyond that? To find out more, Dr. Tenelle Porter at Ball State University conducted a series of studies with high school students. She found that students with intellectual humility were much more likely to test themselves to see whether they really understood the material and seek out potential holes in their understanding. When they got test scores, they’d change their study strategics to improve their performance and master the material for the next test. Students who didn’t see their knowledge could be wrong might instead just sail through their studying and wouldn’t stop to ask themselves if they truly understood what they read, heard, or did. Such students thought they got a subject down pat, but when asked to explain it on a test, they found they didn’t actually understand as much as they had thought. Although it might be good for you, researchers recognize that questioning your beliefs can be truly hard. Still, it’s important to remember that questioning beliefs isn’t always about replacing old ones with new ones. If you find it hard to question a belief, try taking “baby steps.” 32. Why does the author mention the explosion of the Challenger? A. To express his sorrow for the loss. B. To stress the high risk of space flights. C. To show the result of wrong operation. D. To give an example of overconfidence. 33. What do we know about intellectual humility according to Porter’s research? A. It urged students to gain recognition. B. It encouraged students to take exams. C It helped students to adjust learning methods. D. It motivated students to memorize knowledge. 34. What do the underlined words “got a subject down pat” mean in paragraph 5? A. Fully mastered a subject. B. Put great effort into a subject C. Really enjoyed a subject. D. Benefited a lot from a subject. 35. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs? A. Why questioning our belief is hard. B. Why intellectual humility is helpful. C. How to become a confident person. D. I often wished he wasn’t so perfect because it made me feel like I had to work twice as hard just to prove myself to others. On one hand, his success was a challenge that I enjoyed, but on the other hand, it was an immense pressure that I struggled to cope with. To balance his record in high school, I felt like I was constantly running on a treadmill (跑步机), dedicating every moment to a non-stop race. There was no room for relaxation as I pursued that perfect record. My life seemed to be compressed into a series of endless tasks and deadlines. “I needed an A,” I repeated to myself before the biology test, so that I would maintain my perfect record and secure a place on the honor roll. I studied till the last minute of lunch and rushed to class. I felt a sense of confidence as I glanced over the first page of the test, quickly filling in the answers with a smile. However, as I turned to the last page, my mind went blank. Time ticked by, and soon, the classroom began to empty as students finished their tests and left, except me. “Lara, class ended. I need you to hand in your test,” Mrs. Phloem said, stretching out her hand. Reluctantly, I handed her the test paper. The next day, I received my test back. I stared dumbfounded at the red mark: 76. Not even a B. minus, my mind screamed. Just average. It’s over. No perfect record. I felt an unprecedented (前所未有的) sense of frustration and disappointment. After school, I dragged my heavy feet back home. When I pushed open the door, Jack was sitting on the couch, reading. Seeing his leisurely state, I cried, hard to contain the jealousy and sadness in my heart. Jack immediately noticed the depression on my face. He asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Lara?” Blinded by frustration mixed with a touch of jealousy, I shouted at him “How I wish you were not so perfect!” Paragraph 1: With a hint of hurt and surprise in his eyes, Jack gently approached me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: His words were like a warm breeze, blowing my depression away and changing my mindset. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 济宁市实验中学2022级高三下学期4月月考 英语试题 2025.04.03 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案划在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? In Chengdu, a Canadian has become fascinated by the art of penjing, or Chinese bonsai. His name is Chad Sinclair. He’s 46 years old. He came to China 21 years ago to learn Chinese penjing. He fell in love with Chengdu and decided to stay here. Since then, he has been seeking inspiration from mountains, rocks, plants and trees to design his own penjing creations. From a young age, under the influence of his grandmother, Sinclair developed a strong interest in Chinese culture, especially the art of bonsai. In 1997 at the age of nineteen, Sinclair began to learn from Takayama, a world-class Japanese bonsai master. But he had always wanted to visit China, where the art originated. In Chengdu’s parks, Sinclair learned of Sichuan style penjing. As one of the five schools of Chinese penjing, Sichuan style penjing is a national intangible cultural heritage with elegant shapes. He hopes to combine his own style with the Sichuan style concept and introduce the Sichuan style penjing to the world. He took a lot of pictures and his friends who are outside of China reposted them. Today, Sinclair has become a somewhat famous penjing artist in Sichuan. He has also been selected as the Expo promotion ambassador for the International Horticultural Expo 2024 Chengdu. A The Museum of Classical Archaeology is an ideal destination for school trips. Although she admits that it wasn’t initially a thoughtful choice, she now believes that the “old lady” identity is a crucial part of what the group is about. C 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第二段“Since 2017, the group, which accepts only older women as members, has made it its mission to remove trash from ponds across Cape Cod.(自2017年以来,该组织只接受老年女性作为成员,其使命是清除科德角池塘中的垃圾)”可知,这个团队被建立,是为了清理池塘中的垃圾。 根据第三段“The group’s existence is owed to Susan Baur, a retired psychologist. As a lifelong nature fan, she had begun swimming in ponds on the cape as a safer alternative to the ocean.(该组织的存在归功于退休心理学家苏珊·鲍尔。作为一名终身的自然爱好者,她开始在海角的池塘里游泳,作为海洋的一种更安全的替代品)”可知,苏珊·鲍尔是一位热爱大自然的女性。故选D。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“While many outsiders have expressed their gratitude to OLAUG for cleaning up the ponds, some have questioned why they refer to themselves as “old ladies”. Others have said she should open the group to all ages, and to men.(虽然许多局外人对OLAUG清理池塘表示感谢,但一些人质疑她们为什么称自己为“老妇人”。其他人则表示,她应该向所有年龄段和男性开放这个团体)”可知,一些人建议向所有年龄段和男性开放这个团体,即组建一个更具包容性的团队。故选A。 根据最后一段“Although she admits that it wasn’t initially a thoughtful choice, she now believes that the “old lady” identity is a crucial part of what the group is about. “Over 65, if you’re healthy enough to do what we’re doing, it is the age of gratitude,” Baur says. “You are so grateful that you can still do this.”(尽管她承认这最初不是一个深思熟虑的选择,但她现在认为“老妇人”的身份是这个团体的重要组成部分。鲍尔说:“65岁以上,如果你足够健康,可以做我们正在做的事情,那就是感恩的年龄”,“你很感激你还能做到这一点。”)”可知,鲍尔认为“老妇人”的身份增强了她们的自豪感和团队自我定位。故选B。 C Ask students to describe their brain, and they’re likely to suggest a computer, a command center, or maybe a lightning-fast communications network. A Brainpower Building: Encourage a Growth Mindset B. IQ and Its Significant Influence on Learning C. The Growth Mindset: A Key to Difficulty-Solving D. The Significance of Executive Function in Education 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. D 31. 根据第一段中“But they’d be better off thinking of the brain as a muscle that gets stronger with use. Researchers now understand that IQ isn’t fixed at birth. Just as we get more physically fit from exercising, we can build brainpower through the act of learning. (但他们最好把大脑想象成一块随着使用而变得更强壮肌肉。研究人员现在明白,智商并不是与生俱来的。就像我们通过锻炼变得更健康一样,我们可以通过学习来建立智力)”可知,作者把大脑比作肌肉是为了表明智力可以通过锻炼得到加强。故选C。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“In Mindset, Dweck explains why students who have a growth mindset are more willing to tackle challenges, learn from failure, and see criticism as useful feedback (反馈) rather than an excuse to give up. (在《心态》一书中,德威克解释了为什么拥有成长型心态的学生更愿意应对挑战,从失败中学习,并将批评视为有用的反馈,而不是放弃的借口)”可知,有成长型思维的孩子会把遇到的困难看作成长的机会,而不轻言放弃。故选B。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“Effective teaching strategies help students move toward higher-order thinking, or what neurologists call executive (执行) function. Instead, these facts become solidly integrated into an interconnected memory framework, rather than being deserted due to lack of use.” 通读全文,尤其是根据第二段“Children who adopt what psychologist Carol Dweck calls a growth mindset understand that intelligence isn’t fixed but can be developed through effort. (采用心理学家Carol Dweck所说的成长型思维模式的孩子明白,智力不是固定不变的,而是可以通过努力来发展的)”可知,文章围绕大脑能力提升展开,包括成长型思维培养、有效教学策略等,A选项“Brainpower Building: Encourage a Growth Mindset (脑力建设:鼓励成长型思维模式)”全面概括了文章核心内容,最符合文章标题。故选A。 D Self-confidence is trusting in our abilities or qualities. C. It helped students to adjust learning methods. D. It motivated students to memorize knowledge. 34. What do the underlined words “got a subject down pat” mean in paragraph 5? A. Fully mastered a subject. B. Put great effort into a subject C. Really enjoyed a subject. D. Benefited a lot from a subject. 35 What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs? A. Why questioning our belief is hard. B. Why intellectual humility is helpful. C. How to become a confident person. D. How to practice intellectual humility. D 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第二段第二至第四句“He found overconfidence is very common, especially when it comes to what people believe to be true, and can lead us to disastrous decisions. In 1986, NASA believed that the risk of loss for any space flight was roughly 1 in 100,000. It was an overconfident belief and might have led to the explosion of the Challenger. 根据第四段第二、三句“She found that students with intellectual humility were much more likely to test themselves to see whether they really understood the material and seek out potential holes in their understanding. When they got test scores, they’d change their study strategics to improve their performance and master the material for the next test. (她发现,智力谦逊的学生更有可能去检验自己是否真正理解了学习材料,并寻找自己理解上的漏洞。当他们看到考试成绩时,他们会调整学习策略,以提高学习表现,并掌握好材料为下一次考试做准备)”可知,智力谦逊这种特质会使学生及时反思自己的学习,相应调整学习方法。故选C项。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段第二句“Such students thought they got a subject down pat, but when asked to explain it on a test, they found they didn’t actually understand as much as they had thought. (这些学生以为自己对某个科目got down pat,但在考试中被要求解释时,他们发现自己的理解并没有自己想象的那么多)”可知,学生们在考试之前应是对自己比较自信,认为自己对该相关知识十分了解,或已经全会了,但到考场答题时,才发现自己会的不如原本所认为的那么多。由此可知,got a subject down pat应是“对某科目了解很多”或“对某科目完全掌握”之意。故选A项。 根据第二段最后一句“The good news is that there’s a “vaccine (疫苗)” for overconfidence, and that’s what scientists call “intellectual humility”— recognizing that your beliefs could be wrong. (好消息是,过度自信有一种“疫苗”,科学家称之为“智力谦逊”——即认识到你的信念可能是错误的)”及全文最后一句“If you find it hard to question a belief, try taking “baby steps.” Sad feelings are a part of depression and related to other parts of depression including poor self-worth, poor sleep and difficulty enjoying things. ____36____. 【36题详解】 上文“Sad feelings are a part of depression and related to other parts of depression including poor self-worth, poor sleep and difficulty enjoying things. (悲伤情绪是抑郁症的一部分,并且与抑郁症的其他方面相关,包括自我价值感低下、睡眠不佳以及难以享受事物。)”以及下文“We can remove sadness and start growing our happiness and well-being. Here are some ways to deal with sad feelings. (我们可以摆脱悲伤,开始培养自己的幸福感和身心健康。以下是一些应对悲伤情绪的方法。)”可知,上文提到悲伤情绪与抑郁症的其他方面相关,下文说我们可以消除悲伤并培养幸福等,中间需要一个过渡句来连接这种情况与可采取的行动之间的关系。D选项“虽然我们有时会陷入悲伤情绪中,但我们并非必须如此”符合语境,承上启下。故选D。 【37题详解】 根据下文“So grab some high-quality books or take an online program to boost happiness and learn the skills you need to decrease your sad feelings. (所以,去拿一些高质量的书籍来阅读或者参加一个线上课程来提升幸福感,并学习你所需的减少悲伤情绪的技能。)”可知, 作者推荐大家读高质量的书。本段小标题也是“读与克服悲伤相关的书”, 而在推荐某人做某事前, 先要说清楚这样做的意义和好处。F选项“通过阅读自助类书籍,你可以开始学习并将所学应用到生活中”符合语境。故选F。 【38题详解】 根据本段的小标题和空前的“Making a “happiness plan, can be helpful. (制定一个“幸福计划”会有所帮助。)”可知, 做计划是很重要的。C选项“例如,你可以每天采用一种新的克服悲伤的策略”举例说明了制定计划的一种方式,符合语境。故选C。 【39题详解】 根据下文段落中“So you need to learn how to use phones in ways that increase happiness instead of sadness. (所以你需要学习如何以增加幸福感而非悲伤感的方式来使用手机。)”可知,此处建议我们学会使用手机以增加快乐而非增加悲伤, 言外之意就是人要学会自我调节,人应该比手机更智能,哪怕使用手机可能会增加我们的悲伤情绪,我们也要知道如何调节这一状况,所以该段主旨是关于合理使用手机的内容。A选项“智用你的智能手机”能够准确概括该段主旨。故选A。 【40题详解】 上文提到“But it just makes us feel worse in the long run. (但从长远来看,这只会让我们感觉更糟。)”, it指代反复思考最坏的结果,即反复思考最坏的结果从长久来看会让我们感到更糟糕。下文“My advice is to try to imagine a brighter future, even if only in an exercise to help your brain break through sad feelings. (我的建议是,尽量去想象一个更光明的未来,哪怕只是通过一种练习来帮助你的大脑突破悲伤情绪。)”给出了建议——想象更光明的未来。因此,该空要能解释具体的不利后果,能佐证建议的恰当性。E选项“我们的悲伤可能会发展成各种各样其他的负面情绪”符合语境。故选E。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题,每题1分,满分15分) I once worked in the remote but beautiful countryside. He asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Lara?” Blinded by frustration mixed with a touch of jealousy, I shouted at him “How I wish you were not so perfect!” 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: With a hint of hurt and surprise in his eyes, Jack gently approached me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: His words were like a warm breeze, blowing my depression away and changing my mindset. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 With a hint of hurt and surprise in his eyes, Jack gently approached me. He placed a hand on my shoulder and asked me again what had happened. I took out my test paper and told him that I would never match up to him in a choked voice. Jack’s smile grew warmer, and he gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “You don’t have to measure up to anyone and your worth isn’t defined by grades or achievements. You’ re more than just a number on a test. Remember that be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” His words were like a warm breeze, blowing my depression away and changing my mindset. I was still engaged in endless tasks and deadlines, but I no longer felt constrained by my brother’s shadow. Realizing that comparison is the thief of joy, I strove for excellence instead of perfection, which is often unattainable and can lead to burnout. I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders as I realized that my value wasn’t tied to a single test score. I felt more confident and less overwhelmed as I know that believing in doing my best will always be the ultimate best score. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①比得上:match up to/equal ②忙于:be engaged in/be busy with ③意识到:realize/become aware of/come to understand 情绪类 ①令人感到宽慰的:reassuring/comforting/soothing ②快乐:joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] He placed a hand on my shoulder and asked me again what had happened.(运用了连接代词what引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2] Realizing that comparison is the thief of joy, I strove for excellence instead of perfection, which is often unattainable and can lead to burnout.(运用了连词that引导的宾语从句和关系代词which引导的非限制性定语从句) [高分句型3] I felt more confident and less overwhelmed as I know that believing in doing my best will always be the ultimate best score.(运用了从属连词as引导原因状语从句和连词that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
