The asian egyptians and romans employed various techniques to cool down their buildings from the outside heat. Some people have even claimed that the first air conditioning unit was invented in asian egypt. The asian egyptians would hand wet places outside their windows, and when they came into the house, IT would be cooled by the cool water drops on the plants. The romans understood that if they could bring cold water under their houses, then the temperature inside would fall. And if we really stretch the meaning of the phrase air conditioning, then hand fans have been used since the very beginning of the history. People realized that they could move air by waving something, and IT would cool them down for a while. The chinese inventor dwan, went to step further in the second century and invented the fan that could go around similar to fans we might see today, although IT was powered by servants. That's all for the day. Please stay tuned for more updates. The desire to stay cool is, of course, nothing new. It has performed as well as leading models from US-based OpenAI in tasks such as math, programming, and natural language reasoning. However, it achieves these great results at a much lower cost and with less computing power. DeepSeek’s success shows how Chinese tech companies are working to make progress in large language models, or LLMs, and encouraging the use of generative AI technologies in many industries. China is now home to more than one-third of the world’s LLMs, the second-largest after the US, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. Pan Helin, a member of the Expert Committee for Information and Communication Economy, said China’s breakthroughs in LLMs are ‌“based on low costs, high performance and open-source features despite facing limited access to advanced chips”. Open-source LLMs are crucial because they make AI development easier to access, reduce computing costs and help spread advanced technology across different industries, said Wu Yongming, CEO of Alibaba Group. Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing branch of Alibaba Group, recently introduced its latest AI model, Qwen 2.5-Max. The company said it has improved abilities in math and programming and has done better than other leading models, like OpenAI’s GPT-4o and DeepSeek’s V3 model. US computer scientists have developed a new reasoning model trained for less than $50 (about 363 yuan) with the help of Alibaba’s open-source technology. Other companies like Baidu have also allowed developers to use their models. Wang Peng, a research fellow at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, said China’s major strengths in developing AI models lie in its large data resources and varied application scenarios (场景). For example, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence is dedicated to investing (投资) in advanced AI tools to help many industries adopt AI technologies, said Zhou Jingren, its chief technology officer. At present, more than 300,000 businesses have access to Alibaba’s LLMs, which have a broad range of uses in fields like software development, drug research, space exploration and manufacturing (制造业). Moreover, China’s open and welcoming attitude helps the global AI industry grow and advance together, said Zhu Keli, founding director of the China Institute of New Economy. Zhu believes technological progress is unstoppable, and working together with other countries is an important way to support the development of AI technology. 24.What is the unique feature of DeepSeek-R1? A.It is developed by a US-based company. B.It outperforms all other models in math and programming. C.It achieves good results with less cost and computing power. D.It is the first open-source AI model in the world. 25.According to the passage, what are the advantages of open-source LLMs? A.They make AI development more accessible, reduce costs and spread technology. B.They increase computing costs but spread technology faster. C.They make AI development more difficult but more reliable. D.They limit the use of advanced technology in different industries. 26.What does the underlined word ‌“dedicated” in paragraph 6 mean? A.opposed. B.committed. C.addicted. D.limited. 27.What is the author’s attitude towards China’s progress in developing large language models (LLMs)? A.Neutral. B.Critical. C.Positive. D.Skeptical. 根据第一段中“It has performed as well as leading models from US based OpenAI in tasks such as math, programming, and natural language reasoning. However, it achieves these great results at a much lower cost and with less computing power.(它在数学、编程和自然语言推理等任务中表现得和美国OpenAI的领先模型一样好。然而,它以低得多的成本和更少的计算能力取得了这些优异的成果)”可知,DeepSeek-R1的独特之处在于它以较少的成本和计算能力取得了好的结果。故选C项。 25.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Open source LLMs are crucial because they make AI development easier to access, reduce computing costs and help spread advanced technology across different industries(开源大语言模型至关重要,因为它们使人工智能开发更容易获取,降低计算成本,并有助于在不同行业传播先进技术)”可知,开源大语言模型的优势是使人工智能开发更易获取、降低成本和传播技术。故选A项。 26. 根据划线词所在句“For example, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence is dedicated to investing (投资) in advanced AI tools to help many industries adopt AI technologies(例如:阿里云智能……投资先进的人工智能工具,以帮助许多行业采用人工智能技术)”和后文“At present, more than 300,000 businesses have access to Alibaba’s LLMs, which have a broad range of uses in fields like software development, drug research, space exploration and manufacturing (制造业). (目前,超过30万家企业有机会使用阿里巴巴的大语言模型,它在软件开发、药物研究、太空探索和制造业等领域有着广泛的用途)”可推知,阿里云智能致力于投资先进AI工具并给许多行业提供了帮助。由此推知,划线词dedicated的意思是“致力于”,与“committed”意思相近。故选B项。 27.推理判断题。根据第二段中“DeepSeek’s success shows how Chinese tech companies are working to make progress in large language models, or LLMs, and encouraging the use of generative AI technologies in many industries.(DeepSeek的成功展示了中国科技公司如何努力在大语言模型(LLMs)方面取得进展,并鼓励在许多行业中使用生成式人工智能技术)”以及最后一段“Moreover, China’s open and welcoming attitude helps the global AI industry grow and advance together(此外,中国开放和包容的态度有助于全球人工智能行业共同成长和进步)”可知,作者对中国在开发大语言模型方面的进展持积极态度。故选C项。 C Are you upset because you bought a phone less than a year ago and now have to charge it twice a day? In the future, a shot to the battery might solve the problem, a recent study suggested. Researchers at Fudan University found that injecting an organic lithium salt into used-up batteries could restore lost lithium ions (锂离子), greatly extending their lifespan. The study was published on February 12 in the leading science journal Nature. Lithium-ion batteries consist of four parts: the two electrodes (a cathode and an anode), a separator, and electrolyte containing lithium ions. During normal use, lithium ions carry energy between the cathode and anode. Over time, however, some lithium ions form deposits, becoming what scientists call “dead lithium.” This process gradually decreases the concentration of lithium ions in the electrolyte. The battery’s capacity to hold a charge is, therefore, reduced. When a battery’s capacity drops below 80% of its initial value, the battery is considered to have failed. It has been this way since the invention of the lithium-ion battery in 1990. But instead of dead batteries, the Chinese researchers saw them as sick patients. As long as the malfunctioning part can be treated, the battery could be restored to full health. To “heal” the batteries, the team injected them with an organic lithium salt. The chemical reactivated “dead” lithium ions and lengthened the batteries’ lifespans. Because the process can be repeated, the number of charges could jump from between 500 to 2,000 to as many as 60,000. This has never been achieved before. Apart from solving your phone’s battery problem, the magical treatment could also benefit China and the world in many other ways. China is the world’s leading producer of lithium-ion batteries, accounting for about 70% of global output. It is also a major consumer, relying on lithium-ion batteries to power its growing number of new energy vehicles (NEVs). Additionally, these batteries are used to store the energy generated by the country’s solar and wind power industries. The extension of battery life will greatly reduce replacement costs for NEV owners. Battery injection technology could also greatly lower operational costs for the power industry. Last but not least, it will help cut the rising pollution associated with the production and disposal of batteries. 28.What causes lithium-ion batteries to lose capacity over time? A.Electrodes slowly wearing out. B.Electrolyte drying up. C.Separators breaking down. D.Dead lithium building up. 29.How does the new method “heal” batteries? A.By fixing damaged electrodes. B.By adding salt to wake up lithium. C.By cleaning lithium buildup. D.By refilling liquid electrolyte. 30.What can we infer from the last paragraph? A.This breakthrough is vital for China. B.There is no need to mine lithium anymore. C.China dominates new energy vehicles production. D.Battery injection technology worsens the rising pollution. 31.Which title best summarizes the article? A.Eco-Recycling: A Sustainable Future for Batteries. B.Battery Decline: The Science of Aging Power Cells. C.Global Leadership: China’s Battery Industry Ambitions. D.Battery Revival: Extending Lifespans Through Innovation. 根据第三段“Over time, however, some lithium ions form deposits, becoming what scientists call “dead lithium.” This process gradually decreases the concentration of lithium ions in the electrolyte. The battery’s capacity to hold a charge is, therefore, reduced. (然而,随着时间的推移,一些锂离子形成沉积物,成为科学家所说的‘锂’。这个过程逐渐降低电解液中锂离子的浓度。因此,电池的充电能力就降低了。)” 可知,死锂的积累导致电解质中锂离子浓度降低,从而使电池容量下降,故选D。 29.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“To “heal” the batteries, the team injected them with an organic lithium salt. The chemical reactivated “dead” lithium ions and lengthened the batteries’ lifespans.  (为了‘治愈’电池,研究小组向电池注入了有机锂盐。这种化学物质重新激活了‘死亡’的锂离子,延长了电池的寿命。)” 可知,这种新方法是通过注入有机锂盐来重新激活死锂离子来“治愈”电池,即通过添加盐唤醒锂,故选B。 30.推理判断题。根据最后一段“China is the world’s leading producer of lithium-ion batteries, accounting for about 70% of global output. 通读全文,尤其第二段“Researchers at Fudan University found that injecting an organic lithium salt into used-up batteries could restore lost lithium ions (锂离子), greatly extending their lifespan. The study was published on February 12 in the leading science journal Nature. (复旦大学的研究人员发现,在用完的电池中注入有机锂盐可以恢复失去的锂离子,从而大大延长电池的寿命。这项研究发表在2月12日的权威科学杂志《自然》上。)”可知文章主要讲述了通过向电池注射有机锂盐的创新方法来延长电池寿命,所以D选项“电池复兴:通过创新延长寿命”符合文章主旨,最好地概括了这篇文章内容,故选D。 D For as long as I can remember, I want to be a performer. But when it was time to go to college and decide what I wanted to be for the rest of my life, it didn’t occur to me to choose drama as my major. Making a living as a performer seems impractical to me. So instead of starting drama, I started pre⁃law, and then went to law school like my two sisters did before me. They seemed happy enough, I thought; they worked about 80 hours a week, but they made good money and could afford expensive cars and fancy apartments in the city. After law school I got a new job and worked as a lawyer for a big company. I had great benefits, including four weeks of vacation a year, but I never got to use any of my vacation time because there was always too much work to do. I worked from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week, and when I was finished, all I could do was collapse into my bed until I woke up to do it all over again the next day. After five years of this lifestyle, I thought I was going to go crazy. I was unhappy and exhausted, I never saw my friends or my family, and I realized I hadn’t been in a play or musical since I started law school. I thought that acting in a small community play might make me feel better, but rehearsals and performances all took place during my work hours so I made a drastic decision and quit my job. I got a small part in a local play and then the lead role. Now I make my living from acting, and once in a while, I do some legal consulting for a little extra money. I don’t get paid a lot for my acting jobs, but it’s enough. I had to give up my big apartment and expensive car, but I’m so much happier now. I see my friends and family, I have free time, and I get to do something I love every day. 32.Why did the writer go to law school? A.Because his two sisters went to law school. B.Because he was interested in the practice of law. C.Because a lawyer’s job would bring him a decent and leisure life. D.Because acting jobs were not well⁃paid enough to earn a living. 33.After five years practicing law, what is the writer’s feeling about the work of a lawyer? A.Happy. B.Enjoyable. C.Exhausting. D.Relaxing. 34.What is the real reason why the writer quit his job as a lawyer? A.He thought the work consumed almost all his time and energy. B.He didn’t have great benefits. C.He hated working and wanted a break. D.He preferred to make a change. 35.What’s the main purpose of the passage? A.To inform us that the writer quit his job. B.To show us how boring it is to be a lawyer. C.To tell the writer’s story of making a living as an actor. D.To share with us the change of the writer’s lifestyle and the reason. 根据文章第一段中“Making a living as a performer seems impractical to me. So instead of starting drama, I started pre⁃law, and then went to law school like my two sisters did before me. They seemed happy enough, I thought; they worked about 80 hours a week, but they made good money and could afford expensive cars and fancy apartments in the city.(以演员为生对我来说似乎不切实际。所以我没有学戏剧,而是学了法学预科,然后像我的两个姐姐一样上了法学院。我想,他们似乎很幸福;他们每周工作大约80个小时,但他们赚得很多钱,买得起昂贵的汽车和城市里的高档公寓)”可知,作者觉得以表演为生对他来说似乎不切实际,所以选择了法律预科;由此可知,作者上法学院是因为当演员挣的钱不足以维持生计。故选D。 33.细节理解题。根据文章第三段前两句“After five years of this lifestyle, I thought I was going to go crazy. I was unhappy and exhausted, I never saw my friends or my family, and I realized I hadn’t been in a play or musical since I started law school.(过了五年这种生活方式,我想我快要疯了。我很不开心,很疲惫,我从来没有见过我的朋友和家人,我意识到自从我进入法学院以来,我就没有演过戏剧或音乐剧)”可知,作者做了五年律师之后,作者感觉很疲惫。故选C。 34.推理判断题。根据文章第三段中的“I never saw my friends or my family(我从未见过我的朋友和家人)”和“so I made a drastic decision and quit my job(所以我做了一个重大的决定,辞去了工作)”可知,律师的工作花费了作者大量的时间,他很少有时间陪伴家人和朋友。 故选A。 35. The Future of 6G: Faster, Smarter, and Closer 6G, the next generation of mobile networks, is coming soon. She was very short, with short brown hair and unique eyeglasses that seemed too small for her tiny face. Despite being old enough to retire, her temper made it clear she wasn’t planning to do so quietly. Nelson Brian felt exhausted as he sat in one of the hard-backed chairs in the room, worn down by Ms. Finch’s intense stare. Ms. Finch sat on the edge of her chair, her brown shoes barely touching the worn carpet. In a rude tone, she remarked. “Mr. Nelson, your file says you’ve been to four job interviews in the last ten days, but you haven’t managed to secure a job. If today’s appearance is any indication of your commitment to your job search, it’s no wonder Flowers on First didn’t want to hi re you as a delivery driver.” A wave of sickness accompanied the heat spreading through Brian’s body. He knew going straight from soccer practice to the career consulting session was a mistake, but he thought showing up in non-slip shoes would be better than being late. As he tried to explain, Ms. Finch pressed her lips together in annoyance. “I’m not interested in excuses, Mr. Nelson,” she said. “But I’d like to know why someone with your grade point average and an extensive list of after-school activities is struggling to find a part-time job.” Brain’s commitment to extracurricular (工作之外的) activities and good academic standing shifted Ms. Finch’s perspective, realizing he possessed qualities that could contribute positively to the workplace. Ms. Finch’s question brought back the helpless feeling that plagued (折磨) Brian during his failed interviews. “I-I-I am too nervous to say a word,” he stammered (结结巴巴地说), keeping his eyes on the carpet. Ms. Finch made a brief mark on her clipboard. She looked at him curiously, her voice softening. “I’m not so different from you, Mr. Nelson. I, too, can be easily nervous in stressful situations. I apologize for being rude about your situation.” Then, Ms. Finch, showing sympathy toward Brian, finally recognized his genuine effort and commitment to the job search, despite his initial appearance. Paragraph 2: Brian explained his choice of shoes and shorts, and Ms. Finch nodded understandingly. “Being on time is crucial, Mr. Nelson, and I commend you for that. But may I suggest keeping alternative clothing on hand for such occasions? Excellent. C Are you upset because you bought a phone less than a year ago and now have to charge it twice a day? D For as long as I can remember, I want to be a performer. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下列短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 The Future of 6G: Faster, Smarter, and Closer 6G, the next generation of mobile networks, is coming soon.
