Coming up with a great business idea can seem challenging and demanding, which may scare many people away. 1 . With a little creativity and the right mindset, you can turn your passions and everyday experiences into something truly amazing. Here are some tips to help you get started.
Look around and spot problems
One of the best ways to find a business idea is to pay attention to the problems or challenges you and your friends face every day. 2 . Perhaps you’ve noticed that your school cafeteria doesn’t offer enough healthy snack options. Whatever the problem may be, write it down! These challenges are opportunities waiting to be solved, and that’s where your brilliant business idea could come from.
3
What are the things you love doing most? Are you a coding enthusiast, a talented artist or a crazy sports fan? Think about how you could turn those passions into a business that solves a problem or makes someone’s life easier. For example, if you love coding, you could create an interactive game that teaches programming concepts in a fun way.
Work together and brainstorm
4 . They might spot opportunities you missed or offer a fresh perspective. Attend entrepreneurship events or join online communities to connect with like-minded individuals. Brainstorming with others can help you refine your ideas and uncover new possibilities.
Think big, but start small
While it’s great to dream big, remember that every successful business starts with a small, simple idea. Don’t try to solve every problem at once. 5 . For example, if you want to create a healthy snack box people can order, begin by offering just a few choices to customers. As you business grows, you can give them more choices.
A.Stay curious and keep exploring
B.Go into your interests and passions
C.Well, it’s not as hard as you might think
D.Focus on one specific need and start there
E.You can learn from others’ business experiences
F.Don’t hesitate to share ideas with friends and advisors
G.Say you wonder how to organize homework assignments

In the competitive job market, the best advice for job seekers is to move away from mass-submitting résumés (简历) and instead focus on sending thoughtful cold emails. 6 . They are clarity about your goals, effective articulation, and identifying the right recipient.
The process begins by creating a targeted list of dream companies, specific roles, and relevant contacts. 7 — understand their responses to market shifts, analyze brand messaging, and observe key employees’ online presence. This research forms the foundation for a well-informed perspective on the company, which will inform your email content. When crafting your email, follow a proven framework:
Confirm Job Availability: Start with a direct question like “ 8 ?” This initiates dialogue and sets the stage for a meaningful response, avoiding generic introductions.
Demonstrate Research-Based Context: Share insights about recent developments at the company or within its market. Highlighting a recent product launch, strategic initiative, or new partnership shows genuine interest and aligns your goals with the company’s objectives.
Highlight Your Strengths: Connect your skills directly to the company’s needs. Explain how your strengths can contribute to their growth, solve problems, or enhance their competitive edge.
9 . Analysis of millions of successful emails shows that the most effective ones are between 25-50 words and written at a third-to fifth-grade reading level. Short paragraphs and simple sentences yield better engagement. Personalized, thoughtful emailing is a game-changer. Although only 4.1% of emails are manually personalized, those who invest the effort see significant rewards. For job seekers willing to go the extra mile, this approach offers substantial benefits.
In summary, transitioning from mass submissions to personalized cold emails requires effort. 10 .
A.Additionally, simplicity is crucial
B.Are you still hiring for a marketing manager
C.Conduct in-depth research into these organizations
D.May I have the honor to invite you to dinner someday
E.Success with this approach depends on three key elements
F.However, it can significantly improve your chances of landing the desired role
G.Therefore, some job seekers ensure their résumés are packed with keywords
【答案】6.E 7.C 8.B 9.A 10.F
6.上文“In the competitive job market, the best advice for job seekers is to move away from mass-submitting résumés (简历) and instead focus on sending thoughtful cold emails.(在竞争激烈的就业市场上,给求职者的最好建议是不要大量提交简历,而是专注于发送深思熟虑的冷邮件)”建议求职者专注于发送深思熟虑的冷邮件,下文“They are clarity about your goals, effective articulation, and identifying the right recipient.(它们是清晰的目标,有效的表达,以及确定合适的收件人)”提及了三个因素,故E项“这种方法的成功取决于三个关键因素”承上启下,符合语境,故选E。
7.根据下文“understand their responses to market shifts, analyze brand messaging, and observe key employees’ online presence. This research forms the foundation for a well-informed perspective on the company(了解他们对市场变化的反应,分析品牌信息,观察关键员工的在线表现。这项研究为你对公司有一个全面了解的视角奠定了基础)”可知,此处是说深入了解公司,C项“对这些组织进行深入研究”引出下文,故选C。
8.根据上文“Confirm Job Availability: Start with a direct question like(确认职位空缺:以一个直接的问题开始,比如)”可知,空处是一个确认职位空缺的问句,B项“你们还在招聘市场经理吗”符合语语境,故选B。
9.根据下文“Analysis of millions of successful emails shows that the most effective ones are between 25-50 words and written at a third-to fifth-grade reading level.

How to Stop Procrastinating at Bedtime
When I have done the dishes, cleaned the living room, and shot off my last work email of the night, it is “me” time. It is also, cruelly, bedtime. I know I should sleep, but instead I stay up way too late scrolling (滚屏) on TikTok. This is my only uninterrupted time. 11 . Such phenomenon is called “bedtime procrastination”. People with stressful days and little control over their time are those who are most likely to fall into that category. However, all too often, bedtime procrastinators end up exhausted the next day, thus sinking into a terrible cycle. Here are some tips to regain control of your sleep.
·Move up your “me” time. Although this might not be possible for everyone, consider shifting your self-care tasks to earlier time in the day. 12 , or include meal preparation Sundays in your weekly routine so you can get the hours back that you would have spent cooking each weeknight.
· 13 . When you scroll on your phone or watch TV in bed, weekdays or weekends, you’re training your brain to think that’s what you’re supposed to do in bed. A good choice is to reserve your bed for sleep, especially if you struggle to fall asleep at night.
·Create a relaxing bedtime routine. Create one that you look forward to. Practice yoga, take a warm shower, or listen to an audiobook — the key is to do whatever you find most calming and enjoyable. Experts also recommend washing your face and brushing your teeth, right after dinner. 14 .
Do remember, overcoming bedtime procrastination is not about perfection, but progress. 15 . Whether you’re struggling with sleep problems or mental stress, addressing sleep procrastination can be a game-changer. Start tonight by setting a reasonable bedtime and sticking to it. Your future, well-rested self will thank you.

Mirroring behavior, also known as behavioral mimicry, is our inborn tendency to copy the actions, expressions, or mannerisms of those around us. For instance, when you see other people yawn (打哈欠), you will also follow up their involuntary yawn. 16 Studied since the 1960s, it’s become a hot topic in various fields ranging from psychology to neuroscience, and even marketing.
17 Well, it turns out that mirroring has some significant developing advantages. By copying others, our ancestors could learn new skills more quickly, connect with their group members, and even avoid danger. It’s like nature’s way of saying, “Monkey see, monkey do...and monkey survives!”
In the field of psychology, mirroring behavior is like the Swiss Army knife of social understanding. 18 When we mirror someone, we’re not just copying their actions; we’re stepping into their shoes, feeling what they feel. It’s kindness in action.
This ability to “feel” what others are experiencing is crucial for our social development. In fact, mirroring behavior plays a significant role in child development. Ever noticed how babies often stick out their tongues when adults do? That’s not just cute. 19 Through mirroring, children learn to manage the complex world of social interactions.
But here’s where it gets really interesting: mirroring behavior isn’t universal. Different cultures have different mirroring norms. In some cultures, direct eye contact is a sign of respect and engagement, while in others, it might be considered rude. It’s like a cultural dance where everyone’s doing slightly different steps! Mastering the art of mirroring can lead to deeper understanding, making it an invaluable tool in both personal and professional fields. 20 It’s a way of showing, “I see you, I hear you, and I’m with you.” Now that’s relationship goals!
A.It’s a fundamental learning process.
B.But why did we develop this copycat behavior?
C.Enjoying this behavior can strengthen our bonds with others.
D.It’s a flexible tool that helps us connect with others on a deeper level.
E.Can mirroring also improve your outcomes in sales and negotiations?
F.Mirroring can lead to competition rather than cooperation among individuals.
G.This occurs as if it’s a secret handshake our brains perform without permission.
【答案】16.G 17.B 18.D 19.A 20.C
16.空前“Mirroring behavior, also known as behavioral mimicry, is our inborn tendency to copy the actions, expressions, or mannerisms of those around us. For instance, when you see other people yawn (打哈欠), you will also follow up their involuntary yawn.(镜像行为,也被称为行为模仿,是我们天生的模仿周围人的行为、表情或习惯的倾向。例如,当你看到别人打哈欠时,你也会跟着他们无意识地打哈欠。)”说明了镜像行为是什么,空格处应该对此进行进一步的说明,G选项“This occurs as if it’s a secret handshake our brains perform without permission.(这就像是我们的大脑在未经允许的情况下进行的秘密握手。)”
17.空后“Well, it turns out that mirroring has some significant developing advantages. By copying others, our ancestors could learn new skills more quickly, connect with their group members, and even avoid danger. It’s like nature’s way of saying, “Monkey see, monkey do...and monkey survives!”(事实证明,镜像有一些显著的发展优势。通过模仿他人,我们的祖先可以更快地学习新技能,与他们的群体成员联系,甚至避免危险。这就像大自然在说:“猴子看,猴子学……猴子活了下来!”)”说明了人出现镜像行为的原因,是因为发展的需要,B选项“But why did we develop this copycat behavior?(但我们为什么会产生这种模仿行为呢?)”
18.空前“In the field of psychology, mirroring behavior is like the Swiss Army knife of social understanding.(在心理学领域,模仿行为就像是社交理解的瑞士军刀。)”说明了模仿行为像是社交理解的瑞士军刀,空格处应该继续说明这可以在社交方面帮我们做什么,D选项“It’s a flexible tool that helps us connect with others on a deeper level.(它是一种灵活的工具,可以帮助我们在更深层次上与他人联系。)”
19.空后“Through mirroring, children learn to manage the complex world of social interactions.(通过镜像,孩子们学会管理复杂的社会互动世界。)”
20.空前“Mastering the art of mirroring can lead to deeper understanding, making it an invaluable tool in both personal and professional fields.(掌握镜像的艺术可以让你更深入地理解,使它成为个人和专业领域的宝贵工具。)”

Ever found yourself reaching for your favorite old movie or TV show despite knowing every line and unexpected plot changes? You’re not alone. 21
We rewatch shows for emotion, not plot. Rewatching is an intentional choice based on our prior knowledge. Knowing what’s coming allows us to take charge of our feelings. Rewatching and repetition lower our loads of mental understanding too. 22 We can freely make ourselves complethy involved in the experience, enjoy details we might have missed the first time, and deepen our connection to the characters and storylines.
23 Returning to something known when life feels chaotic can ground us. Familiar content removes the tension of uncertainty. We can fully focus on the positive moods.
Rewatching isn’t just about the past; it’s also about the present and the future. Anticipating a favorite scene plays a significant role. It’s reported that the production of dopamine (多巴胺) will be activated by the mental “wanting” of the visualized rewards. 24 We get a feel-good boost during the show as we review favorite moments.
Our media choices reflect our psychological needs. 25 So, the next time you queue up old favourites, remember that you’re doing more than indulging (沉溺) in nostalgia (怀旧) — you’re actively supporting your mental health.
A.The familiarity also provides a sense of safety.
B.Our brains don’t need to work hard to process the information.
C.That’s why we simply cannot deal with anything else at the moment.
D.This mental anticipation motivates behaviors that will deliver the experience.
E.They can be a response to our desire to recreate meaningful emotional experiences.
F.Rewatching old favorites is a popular activity for many, especially during the holidays.
G.A new movie may seem more appealing if we are familiar with the actors, the director or the theme.
【答案】21.F 22.B 23.A 24.D 25.E
21.根据上文“Ever found yourself reaching for your favorite old movie or TV show despite knowing every line and unexpected plot changes? You’re not alone.(你是否发现自己在知道每句台词和意想不到的情节变化的情况下,还是去看最喜欢的老电影或电视剧?你并不孤单)”可知,上文提到不是你一个人喜欢看老电影或电视节目,说明其他人也这样。故F选项“对许多人来说,重温喜欢的老电影或电视剧是一项很受欢迎的活动,尤其是在假期”符合语境,故选F。
22.根据上文“We rewatch shows for emotion, not plot. Rewatching is an intentional choice based on our prior knowledge. Knowing what’s coming allows us to take charge of our feelings. Rewatching and repetition lower our loads of mental understanding too.(我们重看电视剧是为了情感,而不是剧情。重看是一种基于我们先验知识的有意识选择。知道即将发生的事情能让我们掌控自己的感受。重看和重复也会降低我们的心理理解负荷)”可知,上文提到重看或重复能够降低我们的认知负荷,本句说明原因,指出在此过程中大脑不需要过多工作。故B选项“我们的大脑不需要努力工作来处理信息”符合语境,故选B。
23.根据下文“Returning to something known when life feels chaotic can ground us. Familiar content removes the tension of uncertainty. We can fully focus on the positive moods.(当生活感到混乱时,回到已知的事物会让我们陷入困境。熟悉的内容消除了不确定性带来的紧张感。我们可以完全专注于积极的情绪)”可知,下文提到重看熟悉的内容能够让我们在嘈杂中感到安稳,减少不确定性,让我们专注于积极的情绪,故A选项“这种熟悉也提供了一种安全感”符合语境,故选A。
24.根据上文“Rewatching isn’t just about the past; it’s also about the present and the future. Anticipating a favorite scene plays a significant role. It’s reported that the production of dopamine (多巴胺) will be activated by the mental “wanting” of the visualized rewards.(重看不只是关于过去;这也关乎现在和未来。期待最喜欢的场景扮演着重要的角色。据报道,大脑对视觉奖励的“渴望”会激活多巴胺的分泌)”以及后文“We get a feel-good boost during the show as we review favorite moments.(当我们回顾最喜欢的时刻时,我们会感觉很好)”可知,上文提到预测最喜欢的场景能够激活多巴胺的分泌,本句旨在说明在预测时我们会做出的心理行为。故D选项“这种心理预期会激发传递体验的行为”符合语境,故选D。
25.根据上文“Our media choices reflect our psychological needs.(我们对媒体的选择反映了我们的心理需求)”以及后文“So, the next time you queue up old favourites, remember that you’re doing more than indulging (沉溺) in nostalgia (怀旧) — you’re actively supporting your mental health.(所以,下次当你为自己最喜欢的电影排队时,请记住,你所做的不仅仅是沉迷于怀旧——你是在积极地维护自己的心理健康)”可知,上文提到我们的媒体选择反映了我们的心理需求,推测本句指出重看旧节目是在支持我们精神健康。

Imagine any gathering of people — a wedding reception, a job interview, or even just two off-duty workers chatting on the street. 26 ? They all involve people trying to converse with one another. Yet, in these moments, we often struggle to find words to say. Let’s change that and turn small talk into big ideas.
One way to move beyond small talk is to ask open-ended questions. 27 . Radio interviewer Terry Gross once said that the best icebreaker is simply, “Tell me about yourself.” Instead of asking a pointed question like “What do you do?”, this type of open question allows someone to introduce a topic they’re genuinely excited to discuss.
28 . In our attempts to be polite, we tend to answer questions directly, or just repeat others’ observations. Look at the example.
James: It’s a beautiful day!
John: Yes, a beautiful day!
See? By mirroring James’s opinion and language, John stopped the conversation and missed an opportunity for a more engaging interaction.
An even better way to break the boring-conversation mirror is to skip over the expected response, and go somewhere next-level. For instance, if someone says, “I love this coffee shop,” instead of simply agreeing, you might respond with, “Me too! Have you tried their seasonal latte? It’s my favorite and pairs perfectly with their new cake.” 29 . It also opens up the conversation for further exploration.
The art of transforming small talk into engaging conversations lies in our ability to ask open-ended questions and avoid the trap of mirroring. 30 .
A.This not only avoids mirroring
B.Or worse, we do a passable job at talking
C.Which ideas will be worth spreading next
D.What do these situations have in common
E.We can invite people to share stories rather than give one-word answers
F.A phenomenon called “mirroring” also prevents small talk turning into real talk
G.With it, we can turn even the most boring exchanges into opportunities for connection
【答案】26.D 27.E 28.F 29.A 30.G
26.根据上文“Imagine any gathering of people — a wedding reception, a job interview, or even just two off-duty workers chatting on the street.(想象一下任何人群的聚会场景——一场婚礼招待会、一次求职面试,甚至只是两名下班后在街上闲聊的工人。)”可知,上文提到了一些聚会场景;再根据下文“They all involve people trying to converse with one another. (它们都涉及到人们试图相互交谈。)”可推测,空处提出疑问,问这些情况有什么共同之处。选项D“What do these situations have in common(这些情况有什么共同之处呢?)”
27.根据上文“One way to move beyond small talk is to ask open-ended questions.(超越闲聊的一个方法是提出开放式问题。)” E“We can invite people to share stories rather than give one-word answers(我们可以邀请人们分享故事,而不是让他们只给出一个词的回答。)”
根据下文“In our attempts to be polite, we tend to answer questions directly, or just repeat others’ observations. Look at the example.(在我们努力表现得有礼貌时,往往会直接回答问题,或者只是重复别人的观点。看看这个例子。)”以及下文“An even better way to break the boring-conversation mirror is to skip over the expected response, and go somewhere next-level.(打破这种无聊对话“镜像效应”的一个更好办法是跳过预期的回答,进入到一个更高层次的交流。)” F“A phenomenon called “mirroring” also prevents small talk turning into real talk(还有一种被称为“镜像效应”的现象,也会阻碍闲聊转化为真正的对话。)”
29.根据上文“For instance, if someone says, “I love this coffee shop,” instead of simply agreeing, you might respond with, “Me too! Have you tried their seasonal latte? It’s my favorite and pairs perfectly with their new cake.”(例如,如果有人说:“我喜欢这家咖啡店。”不要只是简单地表示赞同,你可以这样回应:“我也是!你尝过他们的季节限定拿铁吗?那是我的最爱,而且和他们的新款蛋糕搭配起来堪称完美。”)”可知,上文就如何打破“镜像效应”对话给出了具体的例子。选项A“This not only avoids mirroring(这不仅避免了“镜像效应”)”延续上文内容,指出这样对话的好处。同时引出下文“It also opens up the conversation for further exploration.(还为进一步深入探讨打开了话匣子。)” 故选A。
30.根据上文“The art of transforming small talk into engaging conversations lies in our ability to ask open-ended questions and avoid the trap of mirroring.(将闲聊转化为引人入胜的对话的艺术,在于我们提出开放式问题的能力以及避免陷入“镜像效应”陷阱的能力。)” G“With it, we can turn even the most boring exchanges into opportunities for connection(掌握了这一点,我们甚至可以把最无聊的交流转化为建立联系的契机。)”

Often when my family travels to a natural place like a national park I say to my husband, “While we’re there, I want to make sure we climb a thing.” By setting this vague agenda, I mean I want to get out into nature and experience any “thing”, usually through a hike. 31
Hiking delivers on both mental and physical health. Emotionally, a hike challenges us to persevere and follow a path wherever it may lead. 32 And of course, being in natural spaces inspires us to feel awe, the sense that there are forces larger than us at work in the world.
33 A walk down a gentle wooded path requires us to pay attention to where our feet are landing. To keep our balance when climbing past roots, stones and dips in the landscape, we need core and leg strength. It literally improves our overall health in ways from preventing back pain to keeping weight off.
Hiking is also a way to build cardiovascular (心血管的) health. A simple walk increases the rate of our breathing, which benefits our hearts and lungs. 34
The safest way to hike is with a friend or companion, in case one of you stumbles or needs a hand. 35 The National Park Service puts it this way: “Because hiking ranges in difficulty from an extremely challenging climb to a casual way of spending time outside, it’s a great way to strengthen the friendships or bonds you have with your companions.” When the outdoors is the safest place to gather with loved ones, why not combine your social connections with physical activity and hit the trail together?
A.How can you hike in a healthy way?
B.Hiking contributes to strength and balance.
C.In addition to being fun and exciting, hiking is healthy.
D.Hiking is best enjoyed in solitude for peaceful reflection.
E.It engages our brains in map-reading and trail-following.
F.But beyond basic safety, hiking is a way to build relational health.
G.Hiking on a trail that has some ups and downs increases this effect.

It is not necessarily something bad to develop boredom because the world of imagination lies just beyond it.
It is healthy for the brain. Your brain spends time relaxing and tidying up when you’re bored. And just as you feel better when your home is neat and tidy, so it is with your brain. Usually, we are surrounded by non-stop information, which sends the brain into overdrive. 36
37 Often enough: you try your hardest to recall something, but it just won’t come to mind. The moment you relax and do something else, your brain retrieves (检索) the information from the deepest part of your memory. Boredom allows your brain to root out information, and solve problems.

It helps you concentrate. 40 If you learn as a child to bear boredom, the lesson can help you develop valuable tools to help strengthen your self-control and mental discipline in later life.

B.It makes you become a better problem solver.
C.Realizing this can help you set goals and go after them.

Choosing the Right Career
You will be leaving this school and the unavoidable question many people will ask you is, “ 41 ” Some of you may have already decided on a career path, but many of you still don’t have a clue! Here are some things you might want to consider.
First, does the career you are considering have staying power? 42 Rapid technological change is disruptive(扰乱性的), and we need to be forward-looking at our future prospects. While many occupations are being taken over by new technology, jobs that require high-level of critical thinking, emotional intelligence and human interaction, remain in high demand. These jobs are not easily replaced by machines or technology. So think carefully about this before you choose your professional path.
Second, choose a career that interests you. Some people might think this is unimportant, but if you are truly passionate about your job then going to work every day won’t seem a chore. 43
Before making a choice, you should examine your values, skills and personality type. This can help you decide if a career path is a good fit for you.
Third, of course you will want to consider your chosen profession’s earning power. Although high pay plays a part, you should know that a job with a big salary will likely require more time to get to the top, much more effort and a higher level of stress. 44 If you have interests outside of work, or are struggling with other demands in your life, you might want to choose a less demanding line of work.
45 Let me leave you with an old saying: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
A.You are on the right track.
B.So, what do you want to be?
C.Will it be in demand in 20 years’ time?
D.It’s also likely that you will stay and grow in this career.
E.They simply want you to be the best of the best to your best ability.
F.Only the truly motivated will likely to be able to meet these challenges.
G.Thinking about a life-long career at this stage in your life is surely disturbing.

Mobile Phones in Education: A Double-Edged Sword
The widespread use of mobile phones has changed how we communicate daily, but their place in education is still a matter of debate. While some think of them as a trouble, others feel they can serve as a useful tool for learning. Students are often distracted by their mobile phones during class time. Some people doubt whether students are focused on their lessons or are instead distracted (使分心) by their devices, texting or even trying to cheat by taking photos of tests. 46
47 For example, France has made a law that doesn’t allow students under 15 to use mobile phones in school. The problem of students using mobile phones in class is a real worry. They are checking their phones, texting or going on social media. 48 Therefore, to deal with the problem, some schools have started using tech solutions. Schools have begun to use special boxes to keep students’ phones during school time, so they won’t be tempted to use them.
The idea of limiting mobile phone use isn’t just happening in a few schools. Over 30 schools in France have put some kind of limit on mobile phone use this year or last year, with different areas making their own rules about phones.
49 The teachers in these schools believe that students have grown up with mobile phones. Teachers think it’s their job to teach students how to use mobile phones the right way as a learning tool. They also teach about how to use phones properly, including how to be responsible with social media and the Internet. 50 In their eye, the technology has already existed, so schools should use it to help students and not fear it.
A.It’s apparent that mobile phones can destroy a child.
B.They regard it as part of changing education for children.
C.There’s also a chance they’re playing games or watching videos on their phones instead of listening to the teacher.
D.However, a number of schools have decided against a complete ban on mobile phones.
E.In fact, with proper guidance, mobile phones can boost the learning experience.
F.Surprisingly, some students even devote up to 12 hours daily to their mobile phones.
G.Educators are exploring the most effective ways to monitor student mobile phone usage.
46.由上文“Students are often distracted by their mobile phones during class time. Some people doubt whether students are focused on their lessons or are instead distracted (使分心) by their devices, texting or even trying to cheat by taking photos of tests. (学生们在课堂上经常被手机分散注意力。一些人怀疑学生们是专注于他们的课程,还是反而被他们的设备分散了注意力,比如发短信,甚至试图通过拍摄考试照片来作弊。)”可知,上文阐述了学生在课堂上使用手机存在的各种不良行为,强调手机对学生课堂的干扰。C项There’s also a chance they’re playing games or watching videos on their phones instead of listening to the teacher.
47.由下文“For example, France has made a law that doesn’t allow students under 15 to use mobile phones in school. 48.由上文“They are checking their phones, texting or going on social media. (他们在查看手机、发短信或使用社交媒体。)”可知,这里在描述学生在课堂上使用手机的行为,强调学生在课堂上过度使用手机的现象。F项Surprisingly, some students even devote up to 12 hours daily to their mobile phones. (令人惊讶的是,一些学生甚至每天花 12 个小时在手机上。)符合此处语境,通过具体的数据“12小时”进一步说明了学生对手机的过度依赖,是对上文学生在课堂上使用手机这一现象的程度上的加深和补充,突出了问题的严重性。故选F项。
49.由上文“Over 30 schools in France have put some kind of limit on mobile phone use this year or last year, with different areas making their own rules about phones. (去年或今年,法国有 30 多所学校对手机使用进行了某种限制,不同地区也制定了自己的手机使用规则。)”以及下文“The teachers in these schools believe that students have grown up with mobile phones. Teachers think it’s their job to teach students how to use mobile phones the right way as a learning tool. (这些学校的老师认为学生是伴随着手机长大的。老师们认为他们的工作是教学生如何正确地使用手机作为一种学习工具。)”可知,上文提到了一些学校对手机使用进行限制,而下文则阐述了一些学校的老师认为应该教学生正确使用手机作为学习工具,态度与上文限制手机使用不同。D项However, a number of schools have decided against a complete ban on mobile phones.

以及下文“In their eye, the technology has already existed, so schools should use it to help students and not fear it. They regard it as part of changing education for children.

How to start writing a novel
Have you been mulling over a good story idea for years but failing to actually get it started? Or perhaps you’re putting words down but feeling unsure of what you’re doing and where you’re headed with it? 51 Here are some of my best tips on how to get your novel going on a sure footing and to feel good about your exciting new writing project.
Set aside proper, regular time to write. If you’re serious about doing this, show yourself and your writing some respect, figure out some regular time to do it, and then stick to that. Writing a book is both amazing and also, at times, a difficult task. 52 .
Don’t expect your words to come out perfectly straight away. Lots of people start off enthusiastically writing a first draft, but then when they read over their material, they find it’s not as good as they want it to be, and they just delete it all. 53 It’s better to just keep going and not look back too much for a good while. Remember, great novels are made in the rewrite.
54 Write down everything you know about what you want your novel to be. Jot down little half-formed thoughts and ideas and see where they take you. If there is a burning question you want to explore, note that down. If you’re fascinated by a setting or a time period or a subject, scribble notes about it. It’s through these meandering jottings that ideas will take shape.
Work out your structure. Once you’re making some headway with your story and you’re getting words down on the page, take some time to think about the structural features of your novel. Will your story span a week, a year, a lifetime? 55 Making key decisions about structure and the means of telling your story can help you get off on a sure footing.
A.Explore your ideas.
B.Try to go easy on yourself.
C.Will you tell it in first or third person?
D.Just read a good book to inspire yourself.
E.It’ll completely fall away if you don’t keep it up.
F.Think of some targets that feel achievable for you.
G.Writing a novel can feel like an impossibly enormous task.
【答案】51.G 52.E 53.B 54.A 55.C
51.根据上文“Have you been mulling over a good story idea for years but failing to actually get it started? Or perhaps you’re putting words down but feeling unsure of what you’re doing and where you’re headed with it?(你是否一直在考虑一个好故事的想法,但却未能真正开始?或者也许你正在写单词,但不确定你在做什么,也不知道你要去哪里?)”以及后文“Here are some of my best tips on how to get your novel going on a sure footing and to feel good about your exciting new writing project.(下面是我的一些最好的建议,教你如何让你的小说有一个坚实的基础,并对你令人兴奋的新写作项目感觉良好)”可知,本句为过渡句,总结写小说存在的困难,引出后文的建议。
52.根据上文“Set aside proper, regular time to write. If you’re serious about doing this, show yourself and your writing some respect, figure out some regular time to do it, and then stick to that. Writing a book is both amazing and also, at times, a difficult task.(留出适当的、有规律的时间来写作。如果你是认真的,对你自己和你的写作表现出一些尊重,找出一些固定的时间来做,然后坚持下去。写书既令人惊奇,有时也是一项艰巨的任务)”可知,本句承接上文,说明为何写书是艰巨的任务。故E选项“如果你不坚持下去,它会完全退化”符合语境,故选E。
53.根据上文“Don’t expect your words to come out perfectly straight away. Lots of people start off enthusiastically writing a first draft, but then when they read over their material, they find it’s not as good as they want it to be, and they just delete it all.(不要指望你的话马上就能脱口而出。很多人一开始都很热情地写初稿,但当他们仔细阅读自己的材料时,他们发现它并没有他们想要的那么好,于是就把它全部删除了)”可知,上文提到了全部删除的情况,后文“It’s better to just keep going and not look back too much for a good while. Remember, great novels are made in the rewrite.(最好是一直向前走,不要回头看太多。记住,伟大的小说是在重写中形成的)”指出写作都需要重写,说明应当对自己宽容。故B选项“尽量对自己宽容一点”符合语境,故选B。
54.根据后文“Write down everything you know about what you want your novel to be. Jot down little half-formed thoughts and ideas and see where they take you. If there is a burning question you want to explore, note that down. If you’re fascinated by a setting or a time period or a subject, scribble notes about it. It’s through these meandering jottings that ideas will take shape.(写下你所知道的关于你想要的小说的一切。记下一些半成品的想法和想法,看看它们会把你带到哪里。如果你有一个迫切想要探究的问题,把它记下来。如果你对一个场景、一段时间或一个主题着迷,那就草草记下来。正是通过这些曲折的笔记,思想才得以形成)”可知,本段主要说明了写下需要探究的问题,然后形成思想,以此来写作。故A选项“探索你的想法”符合语境,故选A。
55.根据上文“Will your story span a week, a year, a lifetime?(你的故事会持续一周,一年,还是一生?)”以及后文“Making key decisions about structure and the means of telling your story can help you get off on a sure footing.(在讲述故事的结构和方式上做出关键的决定可以帮助你在一个稳定的基础上起步)”可知,本句与上文并列,都是针对写作的具体细节进行设问,故C选项“你要用第一人称还是第三人称?”

Have you felt ready for a significant change in your life, but seem stuck when it comes to taking action or making a decision? 56 Many people struggle with the same challenge, often feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about how to take the first step.
57 It’s estimated that about 80 percent of our daily habits run automatically, and these habits tend to dominate our major actions and decisions. As a result, we never spend time figuring out a strategic next move. Big life decisions are either neglected or driven just by circumstances.
The famous Chaos theory suggests that initial conditions shape future paths, with much of life being unplanned. It advises giving space to problems without overthinking. 58 Even if luck or randomness plays a big role, we’d better spend more time thinking through big choices, which will help ensure that our unintentional starting points don’t control our destiny.
To overcome inertia (惰性), there are several specific steps recommended to shape your future. 59 Spend 10 minutes daily reflecting on intentions, focusing on both best and worst case scenarios to clear our minds and concentrate on what truly matters.
Next I suggest you start broad and then get specific. Write down two or three things you want to complete this year. What are the very few significant achievements you can do today to give yourself more encouragement and gain some force? 60
Finally, declare that “today is the day”. Start pursuing your dream — begin a career, build friendships, or explore a hobby!
A.However, I disagree.
B.You are far from unique.
C.Focus time on impactful goals.
D.Therefore, we should rely on chance.
E.Sometimes, the best decisions are made when you trust your instincts.
F.One main reason is that much of our daily behavior is driven by habits.
G.First, use mindful exercises to provide the space and time for self-discovery.

Flying kites is a wonderful way to enjoy a windy spring or summer afternoon. If you’re eager to take your kite to skies, here are some essential tips.
Position yourself correctly. A pleasant kite journey starts with feeling the direction of the wind. This will help you stand with your back to the wind. Hold up your kite by the bridle (风筝提线) at about eye-level. 61 .
Once the wind has caught the kite, it is a must to make sure the line is pulled tight enough to stay straight and firm, and then release the line properly. 62 . If you let the line out too fast, it will go loose and make the kite fall.
Why not invite a friend to hold the kite for launch if the wind is light? You can let him or her hold the kite and walk downwind about 15 to 30 meters away from you. 63 . As the kite gains height, it is time to pull on the line hand over hand until it’s stable.
Adjust the bridle according to wind conditions. If your kite sinks, it indicates there’s not enough wind. 64 . On the contrary, if your kite experiences a sharp drop toward the ground, move the bridle higher up the line.
65 . Keeping some tension on the line gives you more control and keeps the kite from crashing down to the ground. But if your kite starts to spin (旋转) during the falling process, it means the line is too tight. You should let out the line a little to make it looser.
A.Land your kite safely
B.Pull the lines to help the kite take off
C.So lower the bridle a little down the line
D.You’ll get a good feel for how to control your kite
E.The success depends on the speed at which you do this
F.Then you'd better keep it in this position until the wind catches it.
G.A signal should be given to your partner to release it once the wind picks up
【答案】61.F 62.E 63.G 64.C 65.A
A pleasant kite journey starts with feeling the direction of the wind. This will help you stand with your back to the wind. Hold up your kite by the bridle (风筝提线) at about eye-level(正确站位。一次愉快的放风筝之旅始于感受风的方向。这将帮助你背对着风站立。将风筝提线举到与眼睛大致齐平的高度)”可知,这里在讲述放风筝的站位和举风筝的动作,可推理出接下来应该是保持这个姿势等待风把风筝吹起,F项“Then you'd better keep it in this position until the wind catches it(然后你最好保持这个姿势,直到风把它吹起)”符合语境,承接上文,故选F项。
62.根据上文“Once the wind has caught the kite, it is a must to make sure the line is pulled tight enough to stay straight and firm, and then release the line properly(一旦风抓住了风筝,必须确保线拉得足够紧,保持笔直和牢固,然后正确地放线)”以及下文“If you let the line out too fast, it will go loose and make the kite fall(如果你放线太快,线会变松,导致风筝掉落)”可知,这里强调了放线速度对风筝放飞的重要性,E项“The success depends on the speed at which you do this(成功取决于你做这件事的速度)”中的speed与下文的too fast相呼应,说明成功放飞风筝取决于放线的速度,故选E项。
63.根据上文“Why not invite a friend to hold the kite for launch if the wind is light? You can let him or her hold the kite and walk downwind about 15 to 30 meters away from you(如果风力较小,为什么不邀请朋友帮忙拿着风筝准备放飞呢?你可以让他或她拿着风筝,顺风走到离你大约15到30米远的地方)”可知,这里提到了邀请朋友帮忙拿风筝的情况,可推理出接下来应该是在风起来时给朋友信号让其放飞风筝,G项“A signal should be given to your partner to release it once the wind picks up(一旦风变大,应该给你的伙伴一个信号让他放飞风筝)”符合语境,承接上文,故选G项。
64.根据上文“Adjust the bridle according to wind conditions. If your kite sinks, it indicates there’s not enough wind(根据风力条件调整风筝提线。如果你的风筝下沉,这表明风力不够)”可知,如果风筝下沉,表明风力不够,可推理出下文说的是如何调整风筝提线的位置以获得足够的风力,C项“So lower the bridle a little down the line(所以把风筝提线沿着风筝线往下调一点)”符合语境,承接上文,故选C项。
65.根据下文“Keeping some tension on the line gives you more control and keeps the kite from crashing down to the ground. But if your kite starts to spin (旋转) during the falling process, it means the line is too tight. You should let out the line a little to make it looser(保持线的一定张力可以让你更好地控制风筝,并防止风筝坠落到地面。但是如果你的风筝在下落过程中开始旋转,这意味着线太紧了。你应该放出一点线,使它更松一些)”可知,这里在讲述如何安全地让风筝降落,A项“Land your kite safely(安全地降落你的风筝)”符合语境,作为段落小标题,引出下文关于安全降落风筝的内容,故选A项。

How To Choose a Summer Science Camp?
Choosing a summer science camp is similar to choosing any others type of camp. You have the usual considerations about cost, distance from home and amount of time. 66 For science camps, it often boils down to figuring out what science topics are of great interest and finding a camp that does a good job of operation.
• Figure out what science topics are of great interest.
67 Perhaps they're into video games and prefer a camp where they could design one. Or they're into hiking and look for outdoor experiences. Their hobbies are a good indicator of their interests. But younger children might not yet have a clear one. If they don't, look for camps that offer various science topics to explore.
• 68
Good science camps allow students plenty of time to do hands-on exploration. But how much formal education that a science camp offers varies. Camps that offer lectures might be inspirational and informative for older students. Younger students are more likely to benefit from group projects and interactions with other campers rather than lectures.
• Search for a camp that fits your needs.
Once you know the range of science topics the camp covers, and the level of academics, you' re ready to start searching. Parenting websites are a great place to start to look for lists of camps. Many science museums and state parks also link to camps with similar interests. 69
• One More Tip: Register Early!
While summer might seem a long way off, it's time to start thinking about summer camps. 70 Check camp websites for specific camp deadlines and register ASAP!
A.It is all about finding the best fit.
B.Learn about the lecture arrangement.
C.Many top camps offer early bird discounts.
D.Determine the level of academics you want.
E.A simple search can turn up a wealth of information.
F.Older children might already have a clear preference.
G.Camp directors know if the topics are of your interest.
【答案】66.A 67.F 68.D 69.E 70.C
66.根据空格前的句子“Choosing a summer science camp is similar to choosing any others type of camp. You have the usual considerations about cost, distance from home and amount of time. (选择夏季科学夏令营与选择其他类型的夏令营类似。你需要考虑费用、离家距离和时间等常见因素。)”可知,空格处应该总结选择暑期科学营的考虑因素。A项“It is all about finding the best fit. (关键在于找到最合适的。)”概括了选择科学夏令营的核心原则,填入空格处,符合语境。故选A项。
67.根据空格前的句子“Figure out what science topics are of great interest. (确定哪些科学主题是孩子非常感兴趣的。)”和空格后的“Perhaps they're into video games and prefer a camp where they could design one. Or they're into hiking and look for outdoor experiences. Their hobbies are a good indicator of their interests. (也许他们喜欢电子游戏,更喜欢一个可以设计电子游戏的营地。或者他们喜欢徒步旅行,寻找户外体验。他们的爱好很好地反映了他们的兴趣。)”可知,空格处的句子应该讨论孩子的兴趣和偏好。所以,F项“Older children might already have a clear preference. (大一点的孩子可能已经有明确的偏好)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选F项。
68.空格处是该部分的小标题。下文内容“Good science camps allow students plenty of time to do hands-on exploration. But how much formal education that a science camp offers varies. Camps that offer lectures might be inspirational and informative for older students. Younger students are more likely to benefit from group projects and interactions with other campers rather than lectures. (好的科学营可以让学生有充足的时间进行动手探索。但是科学营提供的正规教育有多少是不同的。提供讲座的夏令营可能会给年长的学生带来灵感和信息。年轻的学生更有可能从小组项目和与其他营员的互动中受益,而不是从讲课中受益。)”提到好的科学夏令营应提供充足的实践探索时间,并讨论了不同年龄段学生对讲座和小组项目的适应性。所以,D项“Determine the level of academics you want. (确定你想要的学术水平。)”填入空格处,符合语境,与后文讨论的学术水平和教学形式相匹配。故选D项。
69.空格前的句子“Once you know the range of science topics the camp covers, and the level of academics, you' re ready to start searching. Parenting websites are a great place to start to look for lists of camps. Many science museums and state parks also link to camps with similar interests. (一旦你知道了夏令营涵盖的科学主题的范围和学术水平,你就可以开始搜索了。育儿网站是寻找夏令营列表的好地方。许多科学博物馆和州立公园也有类似兴趣的营地。)”提到可以通过育儿网站、科学博物馆和州立公园等途径搜索夏令营。因此,空格处应是一个总结性的句子,强调搜索夏令营的便捷性。所以,E项“A simple search can turn up a wealth of information. (一次简单的搜索就能找到大量信息。)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选E项。
70.空格前的句子“While summer might seem a long way off, it's time to start thinking about summer camps. (虽然夏季似乎还很遥远,但现在是开始考虑夏令营的时候了。)”提到夏季虽然还很遥远,但现在是开始考虑夏令营的时候了;空格后的句子“Check camp websites for specific camp deadlines and register ASAP! (查看营地网站,了解具体的营地截止日期,并尽快注册!)”提到查看夏令营网站并尽快注册。因此,空格处应强调尽早注册的好处。所以,C项“Many top camps offer early bird discounts. (许多顶级夏令营提供早鸟折扣。)”填入空格处,符合语境,补充了尽早注册的经济优势。故选C项。

40
A.I want to maximize it
B.Don’t hang out in bed
C.Read physical books instead
D.If you are working to a tight schedule even on weekends
E.Invest in a high-end dishwasher to get in a quick yoga session
F.Then it won’t be such an effort to get into bed when you feel sleepy
G.Small but consistent changes bring significant improvements over time

It helps you rediscover your creativity. Just as your brain uses boredom to solve problems, this relaxed state also strengthens your creative muscles. 38 It’s a place where the mind goes into total relaxation.
It enables you to motivate yourself. Boredom can also mean you’re not doing what you really want to do. 39 In other words, if humans didn’t get bored, we wouldn’t innovate or seek out new adventures. Thus, boredom is the motivation for our intelligence, curiosity and drive to discover new things.
It helps you concentrate. 40 If you learn as a child to bear boredom, the lesson can help you develop valuable tools to help strengthen your self-control and mental discipline in later life.
A.It drives you to explore your interests.
B.It makes you become a better problem solver.
C.Realizing this can help you set goals and go after them.
D.Try to set your mind free to wander and enjoy a daydream.
E.A dull moment gives your stressed brain a chance to recover.
F.This is why many people come up with new ideas while in the shower.
G.Your ability to cope with boredom is related to your capacity to focus.

Smarty pants, wise guy, smart aleck — we all know one who knows everything. Whether at family get-togethers, at the office, or in a social setting, know-it-alls are everywhere. 71 . Therefore, you’d better be prepared to deal with them.
Try to be understanding. 72 . Whether it is a personality disorder, the need for excessive admiration, or arrogance, know-it-alls have issues that have to be addressed. Trying to understand where they are coming from and that differences between people always exist could go a long way in empathizing (产生共鸣) with their condition.
Think first before responding. Sine e know-it-alls can be annoying, it is easy to respond in anger or worse. Therefore, take time to calm down and relieve your anger before thinking of an appropriate response. Typically, taking time to think about the situation might even increase your confidence in dealing with somebody who “knows it all”. 73 .
Offer constructive feedback. Believe it or not, know-it-alls might be ignorant to the fact that their behavior is negatively impacting others. 74 , take them out for a coffee or set up an appointment in private to discuss it gently and respectfully. Tell them that it is important that everybody gets a chance to add their input because it provides a sense of community.
75 . Do not be afraid to say “I don’t know" around a know-it-all because this demonstrates that it is okay not to always know the answer. Being a model of appropriate behavior might open the door for others to feel confident in not knowing, including know-it-alls. Follow up statements by asking questions and getting diverse ideas to illustrate flexibility and inclusion.
A.If you detect this.
B.Lead by example.
C.Arm yourself with evidence.
D.Most know-it-alls have a reason for acting this way.
E.Since know-it-all s are essentially correcting all misinformation.
