Particularly interesting is the “tour” around the eleven Earthscapes.(互动式展览可以让游客通过电脑软件体验地震、海底、冰河时代和山脉。 根据第三段“The museum is home to numerous paintings, books and manuscripts (手稿), and you can also see Burns’ writing desk and Scott’s chess set.(博物馆里有许多绘画、书籍和手稿,你还可以看到伯恩斯的写字台和斯科特的国际象棋)”以及最后一段“The natural world, science and technology, discoveries, art, and world cultures are all explored.(自然世界,科学技术,发现,艺术和世界文化都被探索)”可知,作家博物馆和苏格兰国家博物馆的共同之处是都有一种艺术氛围。故选D。 B In 2018, when Hemesh Chadalavada was 12 years old, his grandmother forgot to turn off the gas after she made herself a cup of tea. This experience caused Hemesh to invent the “Alpha Monitor”, a device designed for dementia (痴呆) patients. He started creating this device with whatever was at home, with the help of the internet. “The first model I built was a huge box. I learnt how to make a wearable device on the internet by learning which components to use and where I could source them in Hyderabad. I started with a hardware device, after which I learnt coding online and moved to machine learning and data science, to help me perfect my device,” he adds. The Alpha Monitor has two parts, one, a wearable watch-like device, and the second, an alarm which connects to it. “You attach the device to the patient. In case the patient throws it away or doesn’t like wearing it, you can just put it in a bag and fix it in their pocket or sock or wherever you like. Once you plug in the alarm, you will be warned for every tiny change in movement. As soon as the patient gets up or wanders away, it will warn the family members with a huge alarm sound,” says Hemesh. The wearable device monitors body temperature, pulse, and detects movement, falls and more. It works using a gyroscope sensor to detect even the slightest movement and health sensors for pulse and temperature. It works without Wi-Fi or bluetooth and has a range of 1-2k m, according to Hemesh. It can also be connected to an app for children staying far away to monitor their parents’ movements. “The happiest I’ve ever been is seeing how the device actually works for patients with Alzheimer’s. It gives me incredible happiness to see the small impact I’ve managed to create in the lives of these families” smiles the youngster. 4. What can we learn about Hemesh from the first two paragraphs? A. He received little formal education. B. He had a strong self-learning ability. C. He invented the device to stop gas leaks. D. He got support from a computer engineer. 5. How does the Alpha Monitor warn people of patients’ movements? A. By speaking into their phones. B. By producing a loud noise. C. By making an emergency call. D. By announcing the time automatically. 6. What is a feature of the Alpha Monitor? A. It can analyze patients’ health data. B. It can prevent patients from falling down. C. It can track patients’ movements remotely. D. It can make a difference to patients’ recovery. 7. Which of the following can best describe Hemesh? A. Caring and creative. B. Generous and talented. C. Determined and honest. D. Independent and brave. B 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第二段“He started creating this device with whatever was at home, with the help of the internet. “The first model I built was a huge box. I learnt how to make a wearable device on the internet by learning which components to use and where I could source them in Hyderabad. I started with a hardware device, after which I learnt coding online and moved to machine learning and data science, to help me perfect my device,” he adds.(在互联网的帮助下,他开始用家里的任何东西创造这个设备。“我做的第一个模型是一个巨大的盒子。我在互联网上学习了如何制作可穿戴设备,学习了使用哪些组件,以及在海德拉巴哪里可以找到这些组件。我从一个硬件设备开始,之后我在网上学习编程,然后转向机器学习和数据科学,以帮助我完善我的设备,”他补充道)”可知,一切都是Hemesh Chadalavada在网上自学的,所以他的自学能力很强。故选B项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“The Alpha Monitor has two parts, one, a wearable watch-like device, and the second, an alarm which connects to it. “You attach the device to the patient. In case the patient throws it away or doesn’t like wearing it, you can just put it in a bag and fix it in their pocket or sock or wherever you like. Once you plug in the alarm, you will be warned for every tiny change in movement. As soon as the patient gets up or wanders away, it will warn the family members with a huge alarm sound,” says Hemesh.(Alpha Monitor有两部分,一部分是类似手表的可穿戴设备,另一部分是与之相连的闹钟。 根据倒数第二段“The wearable device monitors body temperature, pulse, and detects movement, falls and more. It works using a gyroscope sensor to detect even the slightest movement and health sensors for pulse and temperature. It can also be connected to an app for children staying far away to monitor their parents’ movements.(这种可穿戴设备可以监测体温、脉搏,并检测运动、跌倒等。 根据第一段“In 2018, when Hemesh Chadalavada was 12 years old, his grandmother forgot to turn off the gas after she made herself a cup of tea. This experience caused Hemesh to invent the “Alpha Monitor”, a device designed for dementia 这一经历促使Hemesh发明了“阿尔法监测器”,这是一种为痴呆症患者设计的设备)”可知,看到祖母忘记关煤气,促使他为痴呆症患者设计设备,说明他是有爱心的,根据第二段“He started creating this device with whatever was at home, with the help of the internet. “The first model I built was a huge box. I learnt how to make a wearable device on the internet by learning which components to use and where I could source them in Hyderabad. I started with a hardware device, after which I learnt coding online and moved to machine learning and data science, to help me perfect my device,” he adds.(在互联网的帮助下,他开始用家里的任何东西创造这个设备。“我做的第一个模型是一个巨大的盒子。我在互联网上学习了如何制作可穿戴设备,学习了使用哪些组件,以及在海德拉巴哪里可以找到这些组件。我从一个硬件设备开始,之后我在网上学习编程,然后转向机器学习和数据科学,以帮助我完善我的设备,”他补充道)”可知,一切都是Hemesh Chadalavada在网上自学并且发明的,所以他是有创造力。故选A项。 C Last week, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres coined a new term. The time of global warming has ended, he announced, and the time of “global boiling” has arrived. You can see why he said it. July was the hottest month on record globally. High temperatures and serious wildfires have swept across the Northern Hemisphere. Oceanic heatwaves are damaging the world’s third-largest coral reef, off Florida. And as the levels of greenhouse gases continue to increase, it means many even hotter summers lie ahead. But critics have strongly disagreed with the phrase. At one level, “global boiling” is clearly an overstatement, but “global warming” is now far too weak a description. Many climate scientists have pushed for the term “global heating” to be used in preference. Similarly, phrases such as “climate crisis” haven’t received enough attention. That’s because many of us still feel we haven’t seen this crisis with our own eyes. But that is changing. In the past few years, extreme weather and related events have struck many countries. Australia’s Black Summer brought wildfires that burned an area the size of the United Kingdom. Germany suffered serious flooding in 2021. The 2022 flood in Pakistan flooded large parts of the country. China has seen both droughts and floods. Terrible droughts have hit the Horn of Africa for many years. India has stopped rice exports due to damage from heavy rain. Critics of climate action often complain about what they see as the overuse of “crisis talk”. If everything is a crisis, nothing is a crisis. When Guterres uses deeply impactful phrases, he’s not inviting us to imagine a Hollywood-style disaster. What he’s hoping is to make people listen — and act — now we can see what climate change looks like. Are there better phrases to describe this? Possibly. Take the challenge yourself: can you think up a brief, correct phrase to cover worsening local- and regional-scale (区域级的) droughts, fires, typhoons and floods; damage to crops and food safety; water shortages; existential threats to coral reefs and low-lying communities? You can see how hard it is. 8. What made Guterres use the phrase “global boiling”? A. The reviews from critics. B. The new scientific findings. C. The present serious situation. D. The future course of climate change. 9. Why did such phrases as “climate crisis” fail to attract our attention? A. None of these phrases reflect the truth. B. Fewer crises have happened in recent years. C. Many phrases haven’t been mentioned publicly. D. Certain climate disasters haven’t happened to us. 10. What does the author try to say by using “But that is changing”? A. But climate crises are worsening. B. But several crises will be solved. C. But people will face food shortages. D. But people are taking effective measures. 11. What does the author think of Guterres’ saying “global boiling”? A. It is beyond reality. B. It is just to scare people. C. It is reasonably acceptable. D. It is just to comfort the public 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“July was the hottest month on record globally. High temperatures and serious wildfires have swept across the Northern Hemisphere. Oceanic heatwaves are damaging the world’s third-largest coral reef, off Florida. And as the levels of greenhouse gases continue to increase, it means many even hotter summers lie ahead.(七月是有记录以来全球最热的月份。 根据第三段最后两句“Similarly, phrases such as “climate crisis” haven’t received enough attention. That’s because many of us still feel we haven’t seen this crisis with our own eyes.(同样,“气候危机”等短语也没有得到足够关注。 根据第四段“But that is changing. India has stopped rice exports due to damage from heavy rain.(但这种情况正在改变。 故选A项。 根据文章第六段“When Guterres uses deeply impactful phrases, he’s not inviting us to imagine a Hollywood-style disaster. What he’s hoping is to make people listen — and act — now we can see what climate change looks like.(当古特雷斯使用深刻影响的话语时,他并不是在邀请我们想象好莱坞式的灾难。 D South Korean government has tried everything to persuade women to have babies. Among their initiatives: sponsored housing for new couples, discounted after-childbirth care for new mothers, even a “baby payment” for each new born. Corporate South Korea is also getting in action, trying to delay a population crisis that could see the country’s workforce halve within 50 years. “We will continue to do what we can as a company to solve the low-birth issue,” Lee Joong-keun, the chairman of Booyoung Group, a Seoul-based construction company, said this month after awarding a total $5.25 million to his employees for babies born since 2021. Other companies are offering payments, too. This development has come about as South Korea’s fertility rate (生育率) — the average number of children a woman has over her lifetime — has decreased to 0.78 in 2022. That means the population is aging rapidly. “The main reasons behind the falling birthrate are the financial burdens of child care and challenges of balancing work and family,” Lee said. South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol praised companies that came up with “tax benefits and other various support measures to boost child birth,” according to his spokes-woman. Despite aggressive efforts, South Korea’s fertility rate is on course to sink further to 0.65 by 2025. This is largely because of the stress put on women, who face fierce workplace discrimination if they want to pursue a career while having children, experts say. South Kore a ranked 105th out of 146 countries in gender equality last year, according to the Global Gender Gap Report. Whether financial bonus can have a positive impact on fertility remains an unanswered question. “Cash payouts are not affordable nor sustainable options for many companies,” said Yoon In-jin, a sociology professor at Korea University. “More importantly, South Korea’s male-dominated corporate culture has to fundamentally change in favor of working women,” he said. “Korean women will start having more babies if they don’t have to sacrifice their career for it.” Nearly 50% South Korean companies punished workers using parental leave, especially on promotions, according to Labor Ministry statistics. 12. What population problem is South Korea very likely to face in the future? A. Its fertility rate will continuously decline. B. Its population will halve within 50 years. C. There will only be the aged very soon. D. New-born babies will make up 65% by 2025. 13. What is the author’s attitude towards the current money-awarding measure? A. Supportive. B. Critical. C. Far-sighted. D. Uncertain. 14. What does academic Yoon In-jin support to do in boosting fertility rate? A. Provide equal career security to women as men are enjoying. B. Improve South Korea’s global rank in gender equality. C. Remove women’s financial burdens and home-work balancing challenges. D. Offer couples with new born babies more tax benefits and other supports. 15. What’s the main idea of this passage? A. The reasons why South Korean women are not having babies. B. The policies South Kare a government applies to persuade women to have babies. C. The measures corporate South Korea takes to promote birthrate. D. The severe discrimination South Korean women are facing. A 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段“This development has come about as South Korea’s fertility rate (生育率)—the average number of children a woman has over her lifetime -- has decreased to 0.78 in 2022.(韩国的生育率——一名女性一生中平均生育的孩子数量——在2022年降至0.78)”以及第三段“Despite aggressive efforts, South Korea’s fertility rate is on course to sink further to 0.65 by 2025.(尽管采取了积极的措施,但到2025年,韩国的生育率仍将进一步下降至0.65)”可知, 韩国的生育率 2022年已经下降到0.78, 并且即使采取了许多政策措施,仍然在持续下降,到2025年预计降到0.65。故选A。 根据最后一段第一句的“Whether financial bonus can have a positive impact on fertility remains an unanswered question.(金钱奖励是否能对生育率产生积极影响仍然是一个悬而未决的问题)”可推知,作者对于金钱奖励这一手段是否有效用持不确定态度。 根据最后一段““More importantly, South Korea’s male-dominated corporate culture has to fundamentally change in favor of working women,”he said.“Korean women will start having more babies if they don’t have to sacrifice their career for it.(“更重要的是,韩国男性主导的企业文化必须从根本上改变,有利于职业女性,”他说。“如果韩国女性不必为此牺牲自己的事业,她们就会开始生更多的孩子。”)”以及最后一句“Nearly 50% South Korean companies punished workers using parental leave, especially on promotions, according to Labor Ministry statistics. (根据劳动部的统计,近 50%的韩国公司利用育儿假惩罚员工,尤其是在升职时)”可知,Yoon In-jin教授支持的生育率提高方案是需要为职业女性提供与男性同等的职业安全感。故选A。 Poems create vivid pictures and tell stories by using language creatively. Arjun came from a family of farmers who worked day and night to make ends meet. Despite their poor circumstances, Arjun had a fire within him that burned brightly with dreams of a better life. From a young age, Arjun displayed a natural curiosity for knowledge. He was a dreamer, and his dreams were vast and limitless. However, education was something that seemed out of reach for Arjun. His village lacked proper schools, and his family could barely afford to feed themselves, let alone pay for his education. But Arjun’s spirit remained unbroken. He knew that education held the key to unlocking his dreams, and he was determined to find a way. With the support and encouragement of his parents, Arjun started a challenging journey. He walked for miles each day to reach a school in a neighboring village. There, he would sit on the ground, carefully absorbing every bit of knowledge that came his way. Arjun’s hunger for education caught the attention of the teachers. They recognized his potential and did everything in their power to support him. Arjun excelled in his studies, doing better than even the richest students. As he advanced in his education, Arjun faced new challenges. The lack of resources and opportunities in his village limited his growth. But he refused to let such things define his future. Arjun’s determination paid off. He secured a scholarship to a famous school in a nearby town. Leaving behind his family and his familiar home, he welcomed this new chapter in his life with gratefulness and a burning desire to succeed. Life in the town was in great contrast to the simplicity of his village. Arjun encountered challenges he had never faced before. He knew that his success was not just his own, but also a testament to the hard work and sacrifice of his family. He remained humble and grateful, always remembering where he came from and who helped him get to where he was. He also worked hard to share his knowledge and success with his community, founding a scholarship program to help other children from his village pursue their dreams. Through his efforts, Arjun not only achieved his own dreams, but also inspired and empowered others to do the same. 词汇激活 行为类 ①钻研:delve into/dig into/research into ②追求:pursue/seek/go after ③实现梦想:achieve one’s dream/realize one’s dream 情绪类 ①着迷的:fascinated/spellbound ②感激的:grateful/thankful 【点睛】【高分句型1】He knew that his success was not just his own, but also a testament to the hard work and sacrifice of his family.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】He remained humble and grateful, always remembering where he came from and who helped him get to where he was.(运用了where和who引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 按秘密级事项管理★启用前 铧强中学高2023级高二(下)第一次教学质量检测 英语试题 2025.03 本试卷共6页, 满分150分。 1. B In 2018, when Hemesh Chadalavada was 12 years old, his grandmother forgot to turn off the gas after she made herself a cup of tea. It gives me incredible happiness to see the small impact I’ve managed to create in the lives of these families,” smiles the youngster. C Last week, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres coined a new term. In the past few years extreme weather and related events have struck many countries. Poems create vivid pictures and tell stories by using language creatively.
