The global success of China’s game “Black Myth: Wukong” has introduced the tale of Sun Wukong to people worldwide. But for Ghaffar Pourazar, a British-American living in California, this legendary character has been a part of his identity (身份). He has spent the past thirty years mastering Peking Opera, becoming an excellent foreign performer in this traditional Chinese art, and getting the nickname “Western Monkey King”.
His lifelong love for Peking Opera began by chance. In 1993, 32-year-old Pourazar attended a performance at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and was immediately attracted. “I was crying,” he recalled. “I had a deep love for different art forms before, including acting, dancing, and movement. But at that moment, everything else faded away. I saw all these arts in Peking Opera.” With the help of the head of the Chinese troupe (剧团), Pourazar entered an opera school in Beijing. Just three months later, he left his life in Britain behind and moved to Beijing to train in the martial roles (武角) of the art.
Starting as an adult was not easy. “My classmates were all children,” he said. “As an adult without any basic skills, it is very hard for you to practice the movements.” Besides the physical demands, mastering the Chinese language was another challenge. “I was reciting the words and songs, whether I was eating, bathing, walking, or even dreaming,” Pourazar added. “Though it was painful, I enjoyed every moment,” he said.
Over the years, he has been introducing Peking Opera and Sun Wukong to international people, taking Chinese performers to perform in different countries. He has also been teaching courses in the US and bringing Peking Opera to Western learners. To better connect with Western learners, he has translated some classic plays such as “The Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven” into English versions.
“I want to be a bridge between cultures,” he said, reflecting on his multicultural background.
19.What made Pourazar fall in love with Peking Opera?
A.His childhood love for different art forms. B.The great help from opera performers.
C.A great performance at a London theatre. D.His learning at an opera school in Beijing.
20.What does the underlined phrase “faded away” in Para 2 mean?
A.disappeared gradually B.beat heavily
C.happened suddenly D.spread slowly
21.Which of the following is NOT the challenge Pourazar faced as a beginner?
A.His physical conditions. B.His learning method.
C.His basic skills. D.His language ability.
22.Which part of the newspaper may the passage be taken from?

C.Interesting People D.Culture World

【解析】本文是一篇记叙文,介绍了英裔美国人加法尔·普拉扎尔对京剧的热爱与坚持,讲述了他学习京剧的经历以及在传播京剧文化方面所做出的努力。
19.细节理解题。根据“In 1993, 32-year-old Pourazar attended a performance at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and was immediately attracted.”可知,1993年,普拉扎尔在伦敦伊丽莎白女王大厅观看的一场表演让他立刻被京剧吸引,从而爱上了京剧。故选C。
20.词义猜测题。根据“I had a deep love for different art forms before, including acting, dancing, and movement. But at that moment, everything else faded away. I saw all these arts in Peking Opera.” 故选A。
21.细节理解题。根据“Starting as an adult was not easy. ‘My classmates were all children,’ he said. ‘As an adult without any basic skills, it is very hard for you to practice the movements.’ Besides the physical demands, mastering the Chinese language was another challenge.”可知,普拉扎尔作为初学者面临的挑战有缺乏基本技能、身体条件的要求以及学习中文的困难,未提及学习方法的挑战。故选B。

Last year, a primary school in Jiangxi Province made a decision. It would no longer prepare meals in its own canteen (食堂). Instead, it would serve its students pre-made (预制的) food. The move quickly became a hot topic across the country. Many parents said that they were worried about food safety. Some of them even sent homemade meals to school at lunchtime every day.
The Ministry of Education warns against introducing pre-made meals to schools. That’s mainly because there are not yet any national standards for such food. The market for pre-made meals has been developing quickly over the past few years. In 2022, there were more than 60,000 related companies in China. And the number is still growing. By 2026, the market will have reached more than one trillion (万亿) yuan. What has made pre-made meals so popular? They have many advantages. They’re quick and convenient to prepare. They also have a long shelf life (保存期). However, parents’ worries are not without reason. Pre-made food may be acceptable every now and then, but few people eat it every day. Naturally, parents don’t want their children to do so, either.
In fact, pre-made meals are all prepared by central kitchens. They’re not necessarily unhealthy compared with freshly cooked food. The problem is how to make sure these companies follow all the hygiene (卫生) rules when they cook and store food. For now, the pre-made food industry still has a long way to go.
23.What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To ask a question. B.To lead to the main topic.
C.To draw a conclusion. D.To raise a problem.
24.Why is the Ministry of Education against pre-made meals?
A.Because pre-made meals are too expensive.
B.Because it thinks that pre-made food is not safe.
C.Because no national standards are set for pre-made food.
D.Because pre-made meals are not so healthy as homemade meals.
25.What do parents think of pre-made meals according to Paragraph 2?
A.Quick and convenient. B.Tasty and healthy.
C.Tasteless and unsafe. D.Worrying and unacceptable.
26.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Not all the companies follow the hygiene rules.
B.Pre-made meals are as healthy as freshly cooked food.
C.Pre-made meals are all prepared in school kitchens.
D.The market of pre-made meals is a success.

In December 2020, the “quiet carriage (车厢)” service was first introduced on some trains of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway and the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway. Up to June 2024, this service has covered the Beijing-Guangzhou, Beijing-Harbin, Shanghai-Kunming and other high-speed railways.
The “quiet carriages” have silent videos and announcements made at a low volume (音量). Doors at both ends of the carriage are closed to reduce noise from outside. During the trip, passengers must wear earphones or turn off loudspeakers when using electronic devices (电子设备). They also need to leave their seats to make or answer calls, and their phones should be set to silent or vibrate mode (振动模式). For those travelling with children, they must take care of them and keep them quiet.
Mr. Li, a Chengdu local, said, “I make at least one round trip a week between Chengdu and Chongqing for work. I sometimes need to focus on my work or get some rest during the hour-long trip. The ‘quiet carriage’ is a good choice for me.”

Dear Mike,
Thank you for your e-mail! I’m sorry to hear that you have a hard time working as a team.
I have really met similar problems before. When we have different ideas in a group, it’s very important that we should first respect each other. Then, we can write down all the ideas on a piece of paper and analyze their advantages and disadvantages carefully. At last, we can vote to make a final decision.
I really think teamwork is very good. It gives us a great chance to learn from each other and grow together. Through working together, we can put together our own strengths and resources, so we can achieve much more than we could alone.
Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua

A.Travel Experience B.Sports Field
C.Interesting People D.Culture World
