①Many people catch a cold in spring or autumn. It makes us wonder——the scientists can send a man to the moon, why can’t they find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. Hundreds of kinds of tiny viruses (病毒) are in the air. You never know which one you will get, so there isn’t a cure for each one.
②When a virus attacks (攻击) your body, the blood in your body rushes to your nose and brings congestion (充血) with it. You feel terrible because you can’t breathe well, but your body is actually “eating” the virus. Your temperature rises, and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You may feel awful, but your body is doing everything it can to get over the cold.
③Different people have different ways of dealing with colds. In the United States, people might have chicken soup to feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink hot water. Other people take medicine to stop the fever, congestion, headache or runny nose.
④There is one interesting thing to note——some scientists say that taking medicine when you have a common cold might be bad for you. This is because the virus can then stay in you longer because your body doesn’t have a way to fight and kill it. So you need to do nothing but drink more hot water. Bodies can do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke about taking medicine when you have a common cold. It goes like this: It takes about seven days to get over a cold if you don’t take any medicine, but only one week to get over a cold if you take medicine.
21. The scientists can’t find a cure for the common cold, because ________.
A. they cost too much B. the kinds of viruses are too many
C. the viruses are tiny D. the viruses are too common
22. Of the following ways to deal with a common cold, which is the best?
A. Having chicken soup. B. Taking hot baths.
C. Drinking more hot water. D. Taking some medicine.
23. The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to ________.
A. the body B. the virus C. the cold D. the medicine
24. Which is the right structure of the passage?
(①=Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2, …)
A. ①/②③/④ B. ①②/③④ C. ①②③/④ D. ①/②/③④
25. According to the joke in the last paragraph, we know that ________.
A. taking medicine is good for a common cold
B. taking medicine is important for a common cold
C. there’s no need to worry about a common cold
D. it’s necessary to take some medicine for a common cold
B 22. C 23. B 24. D 25. C
根据“Hundreds of kinds of tiny viruses are in the air. You never know which one you will get, so there isn’t a cure for each one.”

根据“So you need to do nothing but drink more hot water. Bodies can do an amazing job on their own.”
根据“This is because the virus can then stay in you longer because your body doesn’t have a way to fight and kill it.”
根据“It takes about seven days to get over a cold if you don’t take any medicine, but only one week to get over a cold if you take medicine.”

Chinese educator Tao Xingzhi is called the “teacher of teachers”.
Born in a small village named Huangtanyuan in Anhui province, China in 1891, Tao studied educational philosophy under the guidance of John Dewey, an American philosopher and educational reformer at Columbia University, US, in 1914.
When Tao returned to China in 1917, he began his own career as an educator. But he did not just continue Dewey’s education theories. Shine’s website noted that he adapted (调整) them to improve China’s education system.
In 1921, Tao learned that China’s illiteracy rate (文盲率) was very high. So he organized young workers and farmers to study while they were working. To deal with the shortage of teachers and money, in 1927, Tao set up Xiaozhuang Normal College in the northern suburbs of Nanjing to train teachers and educators, most of whom became teachers at rural schools. In January 1934, he started the “Little Teacher” program in which young students were encouraged to serve as teachers to others, even to those older than themselves.
Under Tao’s guidance, over 18,000 “little teachers” were recruited (招募) in Shanghai within 10 months. Later, there were 28 provinces and cities taking part in what became a key nationwide education event.
In the fight against the Japanese invaders (侵略者), the situations were very difficult, but Tao never forgot his goal. In July 1939, he started Yucai Middle School in the suburbs of Chongqing. Children in need and children of the Party could receive free education.
In 1946, he left the world. But his motto “Giving a whole heart, yet taking nothing in return, not even a leaf of grass” is still known to us all.

C. Drinking more hot water. D. Taking some medicine.
23. The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to ________.
A. the body B. the virus C. the cold D. the medicine
24. Which is the right structure of the passage?
(①=Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2, …)
A. ①/②③/④ B. ①②/③④ C. ①②③/④ D. ①/②/③④
25. According to the joke in the last paragraph, we know that ________.
A. taking medicine is good for a common cold
B. taking medicine is important for a common cold
C. there’s no need to worry about a common cold
D. it’s necessary to take some medicine for a common cold
