Rat remembered his own little home under the ground. He hadn't seen it for a long time. When Badger (獾) and Mole (髅鼠) returned to the kitchen, they saw that Rat was very eager to go home to the river. The underground made him uncomfortable. He liked fresh air and sunshine.
“Relax, Rat,” said Badger. “I’ll show you a short cut through the Wind Forest and you’ll be home in no time. ”
Badger took Mole, Rat and Otter (水獭) through a very long underground passage. It seemed that they walked for a very long time. Finally they arrived at a part of the passage that was just under the ground. The passage let out the open air. Mole could see the sunshine. Quickly Badger let them out of the passage and said goodbye. The three animals thanked Badger for his kindness.
Now Otter led them through the rest of the Wild Forest. Otter was almost as powerful as Badger, so Mole and Rat felt safe with him. Finally they reached the forest’s end. They were looking at the green fields and the river was nearby. All of the animals were very happy to be going home, away from the dark forest.
Happily the animals hurried toward the river back to Rat’s house. As he ran, Mole realized that he was really a field animal. He might live under the ground like Badger, but he also liked the little gardens and the fresh air and the sunshine. The Wild Forest was not his kind of place.

A. acbd B. adcb C. bcad D. acdb
根据第二段“Badger said, ‘I’ll show you a short cut through the Wind For est and you’ll be home in no time.’”(獾说,“我会带你穿过风森林的……,你很快就能到家。”)
根据第一段“He hadn’t seen it for a long time .When Badger and Mole returned to the kitchen, they saw that Rat was very eager to go home to the river.”(他很久没看到它了。
根据第三段“Badger took Mole, Rat and Otter through a very long underground passage.”(Badger带着Mole,Rat和 Otter穿过了一个非常长的地下通道。)
根据第四段“Finally they reached the forest’s end. They were looking at the green fields and the river was nearby. All of the animals were very happy to be going home, a way from the dark forest.”(最后他们到达了森林的尽头。
根据第三段“Badger took Mole, Rat and Otter (水獭) through a very long underground passage.”(Badger带着Mole, Rat和Otter穿过了一个非常长的地下通道。)和“Finally they arrived at a part of the passage
that was just under the ground.”(最后,他们来到了地下通道的一部分。);第四段“Now Otter led them through the rest of the Wild Forest.”(现在Otter领着他们穿过了野森林的其余部分。)和“Finally they reached the forest’s end. They were looking at the green fields and the river was nearby.”(最后他们到达了森林的尽头。
B
It is long known that dogs have a great sense of smell. Because of this advantage, dogs have taken on the jobs like tracking down missing people and looking for bombs. Have you thought that dogs are able to know whether people are stressed?
When we are stressed, our bodies go through changes and produce different chemicals These chemicals come out in our breath and sweat (汗), changing the way we smell. The researchers from a university in Ireland carried out an experiment with four dogs to see if they could smell people’s stress.
The researchers first taught the dogs to use a special smell-testing device with three openings. They trained the dogs to find the correct opening. When the dogs could do better, the researchers started to test the dogs’ ability to smell people’s stress.
The researchers collected breath and sweat samples from different people when they were calm and when they were stressed. The dogs faced three choices: a sample from a calm person, a sample from the same person under stress and a clean sample that had no smell. After taking 720 of these tests, the dogs correctly picked out the samples from stressed people about 94 per cent of the time.
The results clearly show that dogs can smell people’s stress. This exciting discovery can be especially useful in training dogs to help reduce people’s stress or even cure other diseases.
