in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. It stands about

Time (《时代周刊》) named its Kid of the Year
for 2024: Heman Bekele. This 15-year-old boy
stood out for his idea to help treat skin cancer.
Heman’s family moved to the U.S. from
Ethiopia when he was four. While in Ethiopia, he
saw people working in the hot sun without
protection for their skin. This made them more
likely to get skin cancer. Too much exposure (暴露)
to the sun is a main cause of this dangerous disease.
Treating skin cancer costs a lot of money — usually about 40,000 dollars.
Heman wanted to find a cheaper way to help people. He thought of adding
imiquimod (免疫刺激剂) to soap. This medicine can help treat skin cancer.
However, simply mixing the medicine and soap doesn’t work. The medicine is
easily washed away. Heman thought about other ways. He tried putting the
medicine inside super tiny particles (颗粒 ) and adding them to the soap. These
particles stick to the skin after the soap has washed off. This way, they can keep
delivering (输送) the medicine.
Heman has been working with scientist Vito Rebecca. They have already
made some soap and are running some tests on it. They want to see if the soap can
help mice with skin cancer. Heman knows developing his soap will take a long
time, but he’s excited about the work. He hopes other young people will try out
their new ideas, too. “Just keep inventing,” he said. “Keep thinking of new ways to
solve problems and make our world a better place!”
33. Heman Bekele stood out for ________ according to Paragraphs1-3.
A. spending lots of money B. moving to the U.S.A.
C. protecting skin with soap D. working in the hot sun
34. It turned out that mixing the medicine and soap was ________.
A. not as easy as we imagined B. simpler than we thought
C. not part of a scientific process D. a way to cause skin cancer
35. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To find a cheaper way to help people.
B. To think about other ways to wash soap away.
C. To see if developing the soap will take a long time.
D. To encourage kids to try out new ideas to solve problems.
36. What is the text mainly about?

Do you enjoy walking? What is walking then?
Walking is an easy exercise and a good way to
improve health.
During this exercise, your body uses stored fat
for energy. It is a good way to burn calories (卡路
里 ) and control your weight. Walking also helps
lower the risk of many illnesses, such as heart disease and depression (抑郁症 ).
Also, as a gentle exercise, walking puts less pressure on joints (关节 ) than most
sports.
What’s more, studies have shown that walking can strengthen brain function
(增强大脑功能) in young people. Walking increases blood move to the brain. This
improves memory and learning. The exercise also gives teenagers stronger bodies.
Since walking is so helpful, how much should we walk then? “Ten thousand
steps a day!” you may say. Most of us have heard of this advice. It came from an ad
for a step counter (台阶计数器 ) in Japan in the 1960s. But in fact, there is no
standard answer. We should set goals according to our own health condition. On
average, Chinese people walk about 6,000 steps a day, and it is fine to go up to
7,000 or 10,000 a day. On rainy or snowy days, you can walk at a mall or on a
treadmill (跑步机). As you become a seasoned walker, you can speed up or walk
up hills.
Walking is a great first step toward a healthier life, but other forms of exercise
are also important. Doctors suggest adding other sports at least twice a week. These
can include lifting weights, doing yoga and more.
61. What is walking according to the text?
62. List two benefits of walking.
63. Where will the writer walk in bad weather?
64. What other sport do you often do? Why? Write 30 words or more.
