It was a label stuck to me and all people had to do was to refer to the imaginary label and they would know how to address me. I wanted to defeat Aaron, whose fame had reduced me to a nameless tennis player. Then the day eventually approached. As I shook Aaron's hand at the start of the match, I stared at him with determination. “I’m going to beat you today.” I gathered the confidence to claim over the outcome of the match. Aaron laughed carelessly as he turned his back towards me. For a brief moment, I regretted that display of over-confidence. I nervously shifted my weight from one foot to the other. The tennis court seemed to stretch out further than usual. My sweaty hands tightened around my racket (球拍) — the fifth one passed down to me from Aaron. We entered into a heated fight. I was persevering as expected, and I was not sure how long it would take before I withdrew. We were down to the last round, neck and neck in points. I made a mistake, then Aaron leaped up, stretching his arm out. The sun cast his image over me, reminding me that I would always be walking in his shadow if I couldn’t prove myself. I readied myself for the finishing blow, images of Aaron’s past matches flooding through my mind. I recalled the habit of his hit in the World Tennis Tournament, extending my arm to the left in anticipation of where the ball was going to land. The ball made contact with my racket and was lobbed(吊高球) over Aaron’s head. He could do nothing but witness his undefeated status being erased by his younger brother. While I was still enjoying the unfamiliar feeling of victory, a man whom I recognised from a professional club approached me.“What is your name, son?” he asked. A smile spread across my face. 4. What used to trouble the writer? A. The longing for recognition. B. The eagerness to bear labels. C. The desire to be a tennis player. D. The hardship of physical training. 5. How did the writer feel at the beginning of the match? A. Defeated. B. Anxious. C. Optimistic. D. Honored. 6. What can we learn about Aaron from paragraph 4? A He adopted his usual trick in the match. B. He purchased a tennis racket for the writer. C. He had an obvious advantage in the last round. D. He withdrew from the World Tennis Tournament. 7. Which is the best title for the text? A. The Price for One Mistake B. From Nobody to Somebody C. Why Brotherhood Matters D. Aaron's Last-minute Victory 【答案】4 A 5. C 6. A 7. At a surface level, literature often anticipates future scientific developments, and science, in turn, provides a rich source of inspiration for literary creation. However, the interaction between these two goes beyond mere creativity; it invites deeper thoughts on the ethical (道德的) and philosophical impacts of technological advancements. For instance, science fiction works like Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot play a direct role in shaping and inspiring the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This book pictures a future where robots coexist with humans and are governed by the “Three Laws of Robotics”. These laws not only influence the real-world AI research but also become a cornerstone in the debate surrounding AI ethics. These fictional laws provide more than just a blueprint for scientists; they serve as a bridge, making complex technological issues easier for the public to grasp. Yet, the influence of literature on science extends even further. Take Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem as an example. The scientists in this fiction are not merely pioneers of scientific breakthroughs — they also represent the difficult choices and inner conflicts that humanity faces. Through their struggles, Liu presents a profound question: As science pushes us into new territory, are we truly prepared to bear the responsibility for the unforeseen impacts of technological advancements in the future? The true value of literature in relation to science is its ability to stir the pot. It not only question what we can achieve through science but also whether we should pursue these achievements. While science focuses on problem-solving and innovation, literature makes us consider the broader influence on nature and society, ensuring our progress is guided by wisdom, understanding, and humanity. 8. What do we know about I, Robot? A. It instructs scientists in detail. B. It boosts research on bridges. C. It facilitates public access to science. D. It sets laws for robots in the real world. 9. Why does the author mention The Three-Body Problem? A. To point out the complexity of science. B. To warn about the dangers of technology. C. To show literature’s moral concerns about science. D. To suggest literature’s direct influence on innovation. 10. What do the underlined words “stir the pot” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Explore and explain. B. Challenge and reflect. C. Assume and examine. D. Educate and entertain. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Science: the Blueprint of Literature B. Science: a Whisper in Literature’s Ear C. Literature: a Critical Insight into Science D. Literature: the Gateway to Scientific Ideas 【答案】8. C 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第二段“These fictional laws provide more than just a blueprint for scientists; they serve as a bridge, making complex technological issues easier for the public to grasp.(这些虚构的定律为科学家们提供的不仅仅是一个蓝图;它们还充当了一座桥梁,让公众更容易理解复杂的技术问题) 可知,这本书促进公众获取科学。故选C。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“The scientists in this fiction are not merely pioneers of scientific breakthroughs — they also represent the difficult choices and inner conflicts that humanity faces. Through their struggles, Liu presents a profound question: As science pushes us into new territory, are we truly prepared to bear the responsibility for the unforeseen impacts of technological advancements in the future?(在这部小说里,科学家们不仅仅是科学突破的先驱者——他们还代表着人类所面临的艰难抉择和内心冲突。通过描写他们的挣扎,刘提出了一个深刻的问题:随着科学将我们推向新的领域,我们是否真的做好了准备,去承担未来技术进步所带来的那些难以预见的影响的责任呢?)”可推知,作者提及小说《三体》是为了展示文学作品对科学的道德关切。故选C。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“It not only question what we can achieve through science but also whether we should pursue these achievements. While science focuses on problem-solving and innovation, literature makes us consider the broader influence on nature and society, ensuring our progress is guided by wisdom, understanding, and humanity.(它不仅质疑我们通过科学能够取得什么样的成就,还质疑我们是否应该追求这些成就。 C。 D Your phone has a screen that displays images and videos. The screen uses tiny dots known as pixels (像素) that consist of three primary colors: red, green and blue. By mixing these colors in different ways, your phone can show you everything from beautiful beach scenes to cute puppies. Now imagine something similar for smells. Scientists are developing digital scent technology that uses a small number of different cartridges (暗盒), each containing a specific scent. Just like how pixels mix the three basic colors to create images, these scent cartridges could mix to create different smells. Just as images on your phone are made of digital codes that represent combinations of pixels, smells produced by a future phone could be created through digital codes. Each smell could have a specific recipe made up of different amounts of the ingredients in the cartridges. When you receive a digital scent code, your phone could mix tiny amounts of the different scents from the cartridges to create the desired smell. This mix would then be released through a small vent on the phone, allowing you to smell it. With just a few cartridges, your phone could potentially create a huge variety of smells, much like how red, green and blue pixels can create countless colors. Creating a phone that can produce smells involves several challenges. One is designing a system that can produce thousands of different smells using only a few cartridges. Another is how to control how strong a scent should be and how long a phone should send it out. And phones will also need to sense odors near them and convert those to digital codes so your friends’ phones can send smells to you. The cartridges should also be easy to refill, and the chemicals in them should be safe to breathe. These hurdles make it a tricky but exciting area of research. 12. What enables a phone screen to present diverse visual contents? A. Special sensors detecting colors. B. A unique way for color reflection. C. Advanced software for image generation. D. Pixels of three primary colors in combination. 13. What can we learn about digital scent? A. It is created by using cartridges. B. It’s a fully-developed technology. C. It comes from the same cartridges. D. It is related to images on mobile phones. 14. What is one of the troubles scientists face when developing digital scent technology? A. Creating new scents that don’t exist in nature. B. Regulating the intensity and duration of scents. C. Combining all primary colors to produce one smell. D. Finding a way to emit scents that last for a long time. 15. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Technology that can combine colors to create images B. Challenges faced by digital scent technology C. The development and potential of digital scent technology D. The history and future of complex phone technology 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了数字气味技术,包括它的开发过程和潜力,以及其面临的诸多挑战。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“The screen uses tiny dots known as pixels (像素) that consist of three primary colors: red, green and blue. By mixing these colors in different ways, your phone can show you everything from beautiful beach scenes to cute puppies.(屏幕上的小点被称为像素,由三种原色组成:红、绿、蓝。通过以不同的方式混合这些颜色,你的手机可以显示从美丽的海滩景色到可爱的小狗的一切内容。)”可知,像素三种颜色的结合可以使手机屏幕呈现多样化的视觉内容。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“Just like how pixels mix the three basic colors to create images, these scent cartridges could mix to create different smells.(就像像素如何混合三种基本颜色来创建图像一样,这些暗盒可以混合产生不同的气味。)”可知,数字气味的生成依赖于使用不同的暗盒。故选A项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Another is how to control how strong a scent should be and how long a phone should send it out.(另一个挑战是如何控制气味的强度以及手机发出气味的时间。)”可知,科学家在开发数字气味技术时面临的困难之一是调节气味的强度和持续时间。故选B项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第二段中“Scientists are developing digital scent technology that uses a small number of different cartridges (暗盒), each containing a specific scent.(科学家们正在开发数字气味技术,该技术使用少量不同的暗盒,每个暗盒含有一种特定的气味。)”和第三段中“When you receive a digital scent code, your phone could mix tiny amounts of the different scents from the cartridges to create the desired smell.(当你收到一个数字气味代码时,你的手机可以混合暗盒中的少量不同气味,以产生想要的气味。)”以及第四段中“Creating a phone that can produce smells involves several challenges.(制造一款可以产生气味的手机包括几个挑战。)”可知,本文主要介绍了数字气味技术,包括它的开发过程和潜力,以及其面临的诸多挑战,C项“数字气味技术的发展和潜力”符合题意。故选C项。 E Recently, campaigners have encouraged us to buy local food. This reduces “food miles”, that is, the distance food travels to get from the producer to the retailer. They reason that the higher the food miles, the more carbon emissions. Buying local food, therefore, has a lower carbon footprint and is more environmentally friendly. However, the real story is not as simple as that. If our aim is to reduce carbon emissions, we must look at the whole farming process, not just transportation. Other processes, including fertilization, storage, heating and irrigation, contribute much more. In fact, imported food often has a lower carbon footprint than locally grown food. Take apples for example. In autumn, when apples are harvested, the best option for a British resident is to buy British apples. However, the apples we buy in winter or spring have been kept refrigerated for months, and this uses up a lot of energy. In spring, therefore, it is more energy- efficient to import them from New Zealand, where they are in season. Heating also uses a lot of energy, which is why growing tomatoes in heated greenhouses in the UK is less environmentally friendly than importing them from Spain, where the crop grows well in the local climate. We must also take into account the type of transport. Transporting food by air creates about 50 times more emissions than shipping it. However, only a small proportion of goods are flown to the consumer country, and these are usually high value, perishable items which we cannot produce locally. Even then, these foods may not have a higher carbon footprint than locally grown food. For example, beans flown in from Kenya are grown in sunny fields using manual labour and natural fertilizers, unlike in Britain, where we use oil-based fertilizers and diesel machinery. Therefore, the total carbon footprint is still lower. It’s also worth remembering that a product’s journey does not end at the supermarket. The distance consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind of transport they use will also add to its carbon footprint. So driving a long way to shop for food will negate any environmental benefits of buying locally grown produce. Recently, some supermarkets have been trying to raise awareness of food miles too. But ultimately, the measures are too simple. Lots of different factors contribute to a food’s carbon footprint besides the distance it has travelled. 16. Why is importing apples from New Zealand more energy-efficient for British residents in spring? A. It reduces food miles. B. British apples are in short supply. C. New Zealand apples are cheaper. D. British apples have been stored under energy-consuming conditions. 17. Which of the following statements is correct according to the passage? A. All imported food has a higher carbon footprint than locally grow n food. B. Beans flown in from Kenya have higher carbon footprints than grown in Britain. C. Transporting food by air always results in a higher carbon footprint than growing local food. D. Only considering food miles is an oversimplified way to assess a food’s environmental impact. 18. The underlined word “negate” in paragraph 5 probably means ________. A. enhance B. ignore C. cancel out D. misunderstand 19. What is the author’s attitude towards buying local food? A. Strongly supportive. B. Completely opposed. C. Cautiously skeptical. D. Somewhat indifferent. 【答案】16. D 17. D 18. C 19. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文,讨论了购买本地食物是否真的更环保这一问题。 【16题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“However, the apples we buy in winter or spring have been kept refrigerated for months, and this uses up a lot of energy. In spring, therefore, it is more energy-efficient to import them from New Zealand, where they are in season. (然而,我们在冬季或春季购买的苹果已经冷藏了数月,这会消耗大量能源。因此,在春季,从新西兰进口苹果更节能,因为那里的苹果正当季。)”可知,这两句话明确指出英国在春季时,苹果已被冷藏数月,处于耗能状态,所以从新西兰进口苹果更节能。故选D。 【17题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第二段中的“If our aim is to reduce carbon emissions, we must look at the whole farming process, not just transportation. (如果我们的目标是减少碳排放,我们必须考虑整个农业生产过程,而不仅仅是运输。)”以及最后一段中的“Lots of different factors contribute to a food’s carbon footprint besides the distance it has travelled. (除了食物运输的距离之外,还有许多不同的因素会影响食物的碳足迹。)”可知,只考虑食物里程来评估食物对环境的影响过于简单,与D选项相符。故选D。 【18题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章第五段“It’s also worth remembering that a product’s journey does not end at the supermarket. The distance consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind of transport they use will also add to its carbon footprint. (同样值得记住的是,产品的旅程并不在超市结束。消费者购买食物所走的距离以及他们使用的交通方式也会增加食物的碳足迹。)”以及“So driving a long way to shop for food (开车很远去购买食物)”可知,所以,会使得购买本地种植产品的任何环境效益都无效。“negate”表示使无效,与“cancel out (抵消)”意思相近。故选C。 【19题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中的“However, the real story is not as simple as that. (然而,实际情况并非如此简单。)”以及文章第五段“It’s also worth remembering that a product’s journey does not end at the supermarket. The distance consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind of transport they use will also add to its carbon footprint. (同样值得记住的是,产品的旅程并不在超市结束。消费者购买食物所走的距离以及他们使用的交通方式也会增加食物的碳足迹。)”及全文可知,文章通过分析不同因素对食物碳足迹的影响,可以看出作者的谨慎怀疑态度。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You’ re absorbed in a mystery novel, but in your excitement to discover who committed the crime, you turn the page too quickly and slice open the skin of your pointer finger. You take a deep breath, not because you’ve just learned that the head servant did it, but because the tiny cut hurts so badly. Why are paper cuts so painful? ___20___ First of all, human fingers carry a high concentration of nerve cells called nociceptors (伤害感受器) which respond to signals released by damaged cells. Paper cuts primarily set off nociceptors, which sense cell damage caused by pressure, cuts and small holes. Activated nociceptors let loose a chain of electrical signals that travel through nerve fibers. ___21___ Sometimes, paper cuts can also stimulate nociceptors that are sensitive to chemicals, such as the whitener (增白剂) used to lighten paper. An extra terrible feeling around a paper cut may be generated. ___22___ The paper itself also adds to the pain. Although it looks smooth to the naked eye, at a microscopic level, the dried wood fibers within paper make the materials’ edges quite rough. This rough texture causes more extensive cellular damage than a straight, clean edge would. That said, paper’s rough edge typically only slices through the top two layers of skin — the outer skin layer and the inner skin layer. ___23___ This lowers the likelihood that the cut will become covered by thickened blood. As a result, the nerve fibers remain exposed to the environment for a prolonged period of time and shoot off pain signals whenever touched. To treat a paper cut, clean the wound with soap and water, apply antibiotic ointment (抗生素软膏) to prevent infection, and cover it with a bandage to block out dirty stuff. ___24___ However, if the cut doesn’t improve in that time, you’d better see a doctor. A. Therefore, it causes little to no bleeding. B. It’s a combination of two different aspects. C. Most paper cuts recover within two to three days. D. Hands are flexible and packed with pain-sensitive cells. E. This helps explain why slicing open your finger is also super painful. F. But it’s not just the physical makeup that makes paper cuts so painful. G. Ultimately the signals reach a brain region responsible for sensations of pain. 【答案】20. B 21. G 22. F 23. A 24. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章解释了为什么被纸割伤的伤口会如此疼痛,以及如何处理伤口。 【20题详解】 根据上文“Why are paper cuts so painful? (为什么被纸划伤这么痛?)”及下文“First of all, human fingers carry a high concentration of nerve cells called nociceptors (首先,人类的手指携带着高浓度的被称为伤害感受器的神经细胞,它对受损细胞释放的信号做出反应。)”,可知,划线处是一个承上启下的过渡句。而第三段“The paper itself also adds to the pain. (但并不仅仅是身体上的化妆让纸割伤如此痛苦)”也在解释原因之一,说明划线处要集中归纳“为什么被纸划伤这么痛?”,B 选项“It’s a combination of two different aspects. (这是两个不同方面的结合。)”符合逻辑。即文章从两方面解释了为什么被纸割伤的伤口会如此疼痛?故选B。 【21题详解】 根据上文“Activated nociceptors let loose a chain of electrical signals that travel through nerve fibers. (被激活伤害感受器释放出一串电信号,通过神经纤维传播。)”可知,下文要进一步说明,这些被激活的信号接下来的传播路径,G选项 “Ultimately, the signals reach a brain region responsible for sensations of pain. (最终,这些信号到达大脑中负责疼痛感觉的区域。)”符合逻辑。故选G。 【22题详解】 根据下文“The paper itself also adds to the pain. (报纸本身也增加了痛苦。)”可知,划线处承接上文,并引起下文,F选项“But it’s not just the physical makeup that makes paper cuts so painful. (但并不仅仅是身体上的化妆让纸割伤如此痛苦。)”中not just 与下文also,形成上下承接关系,符合逻辑。故选F项。 【23题详解】 根据下文“This lowers the likelihood that the cut will become covered by thickened blood. (这降低了伤口被粘稠的血液覆盖的可能性。)”可知,上文要指出割伤并未出血或出血少,才能引出下文伤口不会被粘稠的血液覆盖的结果。A 选项“Therefore, it causes little to no bleeding. (因此,它几乎不会引起出血。)”符合逻辑。故选A。 【24题详解】 根据下文“However, if the cut doesn’t improve in that time, you’d better see a doctor. (然而,如果伤口在这段时间内没有好转,你最好去看医生。)”可知,划线处要提出一种结果,引出下文,没有出现这种结果,采取怎么的措施。C选项“Most paper cuts recover within two to three days. (大多数被纸划伤的伤口会在两到三天内恢复。)”符合逻辑。故选C。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 This past summer, I applied for my very first job at a small bakery in my neighborhood. I’m going to Paul’s.” He raced out the door and slammed (砰地关上) it behind him. Summer vacation just began. The boys planned to play baseball every day so they could make the freshman team. Paul was waiting outside for Steve. “What are you doing? Where’s your stuff?” Steve lifted his bat onto his shoulder when catching sight of Paul. Paul shook his head unhappily. “I have to clean Mr. Thompson’s garage before I can go. With his broken arm, he can’t do it himself. My mom always volunteers me to help the Thompsons. They’re kind of old.” “OK,” said Steve. “I’ll help you. We’ll get done quicker working together.” The boys went down the block to the Thompsons’ and got started. They found a couple of brooms and shovels (铲). Before they swept, they put boxes that were strewn (遍布) around the garage floor on shelves. As Paul put a big box on a shelf, it fell off and with it fell an envelope. He picked it up. It wasn’t sealed, so he opened it. There were lots of one-hundred-dollar bills. “You’ve got to see this.” He pulled out a handful of bills and showed Steve with his eyes lit up. “Where did you get that?” said Steve. Paul pointed to the shelf. “It just fell down when the box fell. There’s got to be a couple of thousand dollars here. If we take some, I bet no one will ever know.” Steve furrowed his brow (皱眉) and shook his head. “Are you crazy? That’s stealing.” “Well, I do a lot of chores for them and don’t get paid. It’s not really stealing; it’s a kind of payment for my hard work.” Paul insisted. At that time, Steve was about to grab the money from Paul’s hand when they heard a sound. “Boys, I baked a chocolate cake.” Mrs. Thompson walked into the garage. 50. What kind of person do you think Steve is? Why? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 51. What might be the boys’ immediate reaction when Mrs. Thompson came in? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 52. What might Paul do with the money he had found? Why? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】50. Steve is a helpful person, because he offered to help Paul with the cleaning work. He is also honest, as he refused to take the money found in the garage. 51. They might freeze with fear and try to hide their nervousness. He might put the money back to the envelope or admit his mistake to Mrs. Thompson because he finally realized that honesty is the best policy. “I’ll help you. (“好的。”史蒂夫说。“我会帮助你”)”和倒数第二段中的“Steve furrowed his brow and shook his head. “Are you crazy? That’s stealing.” (史蒂夫皱起眉头,摇了摇头。“你疯了?那是盗窃。”)”可知,史蒂夫是一个乐于助人的人,因为他愿意帮助保罗做清洁工作。他也很诚实,因为他拒绝接受在车库里发现的钱。故填Steve is a helpful person, because he offered to help Paul with the cleaning work. He is also honest, as he refused to take the money found in the garage。 【51题详解】 考查推理判断。根据倒数第二段中的“At that time, Steve was about to grab the money from Paul’s hand when they heard a sound. (就在这时,史蒂夫正要从保罗手里抢钱,就听到了一声响动。)”可推知,他们正在抢捡到的汤普森先生的钱,所以当汤普森夫人回来时,他们可能会因恐惧而僵住,并试图隐藏自己的紧张。故填They might freeze with fear and try to hide their nervousness。 【52题详解】 开放试题,言之有理即可。保罗受到史蒂夫的劝说,可能会把钱放回信封,或者向汤普森夫人承认自己的错误,因为他终于意识到诚实是最好的策略。故填He might put the money back to the envelope or admit his mistake to Mrs. Thompson because he finally realized that honesty is the best policy。 第五部分 写作(满分20分) 53. 假如你是李华,你校交换生Peter邀请你一起创办有关中国京剧文化的公众号(a public account),推广和传播中国京剧文化。请你给他回信,内容包括: 1. 表示支持和赞赏。 2. 就推送内容给出建议。 要求:词数100左右。可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。 Dear Peter, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】Dear Peter, Delighted to hear about your idea of creating a public account to promote Chinese Peking Opera, I’d like to share my thoughts with you. C The desire to be a tennis player. D. The hardship of physical training. 5. How did the writer feel at the beginning of the match? A. Defeated. B. Anxious. C. Optimistic. D. Honored. 6. What can we learn about Aaron from paragraph 4? A. He adopted his usual trick in the match. Aaron's Last-minute Victory C The interplay between literature and scientific research has been evident throughout history. Literature: the Gateway to Scientific Ideas D Your phone has a screen that displays images and videos. When you receive a digital scent code your phone could mix tiny amounts of the different scents from the cartridges to create the desired smell. C Advanced software for image generation. A. Technology that can combine colors to create images B Challenges faced by digital scent technology C. The development and potential of digital scent technology D. The history and future of complex phone technology E Recently, campaigners have encouraged us to buy local food. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You’ re absorbed in a mystery novel, but in your excitement to discover who committed the crime, you turn the page too quickly and slice open the skin of your pointer finger. G. Ultimately, the signals reach a brain region responsible for sensations of pain. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 This past summer, I applied for my very first job at a small bakery in my neighborhood.
