In the future, when robots can be used both in homes and in other areas, they could improve the living standards of people. Many people burn their energy on their daytoday tasks like cooking, cleaning after work, etc. When robots can complete such jobs, people can spend more time with their family and friends. Experts say that many major problems in the modern world are caused by miscommunication. When people have more time, they can talk freely to solve such issues and eventually create a happy society.
Robots can be used on certain jobs to avoid accidents caused by careless behavior of some people. When robots are used on such work, it does not risk any human life due to accidents at the workplace. Human resources can be efficiently used by performing tasks which demand human skills like critical thinking and problem solving. Robots can be used on lowend jobs like moving heavy things and heavy weight lifting.
While some people talk about how robots can be useful to humans, others voice their concerns. When robots become cheaper to produce, employers may prefer to use more robots than humans. As the technology constantly improves the abilities of robots, it could weaken the value of humans. Many people may rely on robots heavily. Some may even develop the habit of using robots on tasks that they can easily do. This could create a lazy society.
As an aging society, Japan sees it as a must to build robots that take care of elderly people at their homes, because without them, the nation’s health care system can’t cope. There will simply be too many elderly people to care for as the nation faces a decreasing birth rate, an aging population, and the loosening of family ties. However, many of Japan’s elderly people would prefer human helpers rather than robots. Above all, Japan needs its dreams of robots in the home to come true because its immigration policy is antiimmigration.
24. According to the first paragraph, when robots can be used in homes, ________.
A. people will spend more time on their work
B. there would be more misunderstandings between humans
C. people’s living standards will be improved
D. people may communicate more with robots than human beings
25. Compared with humans, robots are better at ________.
A. problem solving
B. communicating with others
C. critical thinking
D. working safely
26. Some people worry that with more robots being used ________.
A. people will be unwilling to work hard
B. human resources won’t be needed at the workplace
C. it will be harder to improve the abilities of robots
D. robots will be beyond our control
27. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Japan will try to develop robots to be used in the home.
B. The robots are well received by elderly people in Japan.
C. The Japanese government encourages foreigners to move to Japan.
D. Most Japanese citizens are against robots in the home.

In a world featuring endless choices, the search for simplicity has become more than just a desire—it’s a necessity. The book Yes Means Yes, Everything Else Means No explores the philosophy of simplicity and decision-making. Written by Bruce Mullen, this book goes beyond self-help clichés (陈词滥调) and offers a genuine, actionable approach to guiding life’s choices.
The book recognizes decision-making as the centre of human existence and invites readers to admit each decision carries a weight. “Yes Means Yes, Everything Else Means No” sums up a sign if can’t rule—a definite “Yes” and a clear “No.” It encourages readers to focus on the “Yes” and stop readers from puting their effort into uncertain things. Another rule stressed in the book is simplicity in decision-making. By adopting simplicity, decision-makers aim to get the key information, focus on the most related factors, and avoid unnecessary aspects, enabling quicker judgments and swifter conclusions.
The book is a practical guide to enhance decision-making skills. The author doesn’t merely express the philosophy but equips readers with the tools they need to apply effectively. From techniques to give preference to tasks to methods for avoiding distractions (分心), the book offers skills for simplifying the decision-making process.
Through personal experiences, Mullen determined the power of simplification, guiding people to make decisions according to one’s own values and desires. Beyond individual context, this book also influences business strategies, relationship dynamics, and societal considerations. Mullen not only explores the essence of “yes means yes” but stresses the significance of making clear decisions at a crossroads.
“Yes Means Yes, Everything Else Means No” is more than a book; it’s a philosophy that can change how we approach decisions. For those seeking to guide life with clarity and purpose, this book is a guiding light in the fog of in decision.
28. What are the readers encouraged to do according to paragraph 2?

29. Why is the book a practical guide to readers?

30. What is paragraph 4 of the text mainly about?

As we age, our cognitive and motor (运动) functions worsen, which in turn affects our independence and overall quality of life. To improve or even remove this condition, research has given rise to many promising technologies.
Among these is non-invasive (无创的) brain stimulation: a term covering a set of techniques that can affect brain functions non-invasively from the outside, without the need for surgery. One such promising technique, in particular, is anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (atDCS).
Now, scientists have identified an important factor affecting an individual’s responsiveness to atDCS. The team looked at how native learning abilities determine the effect of brain stimulation applied while learning a motor task. Their findings suggest that individuals with less efficient learning mechanisms benefit more from stimulation, while those with optimal (最优的) learning strategies might experience negative effects.
The researchers employed 40 participants: 20 middle-aged adults (50 — 65 years old) and 20 older adults (over 65). Each group was further divided into those receiving active atDCS and those receiving placebo (安慰剂) stimulation. Over ten days, participants practiced a finger-tapping task designed to study motor list learning at home while receiving atDCS. The task involved copying a numerical list using a keyboard, trying to be as fast and as accurate as possible. The team then used a machine-learning model to classify participants as either “optimal” or “sub-optimal” learners, based on their first performance.
The study found that sub-optimal learners, who were seemingly less efficient at completing the task at the early stages of learning, experienced a quick accuracy improvement while performing the task when receiving atDCS. This effect was not limited to people of a certain age, with sub-optimal learners being found among younger individuals as well.
In contrast, participants with optimal learning strategies, regardless of age, even showed a negative tendency in performance when receiving atDCS. This difference suggests that brain stimulation is more beneficial for individuals who firstly struggle with motor tasks. As such, atDCS seems to possess a restorative rather than a strengthening quality, with important significance for recovery.
32. What is atDCS?
A. A technique only for older adults.
B. A way to transfer something into the brain.
C. A non-invasive brain stimulation technique.
D. A surgical method to improve cognitive functions.
33. What can we conclude from the study about atDCS?
A. It is only useful for older adults in improving motor tasks.
B. It has different effects on people with different learning strategies.
C. It has no significant effects on the performance of any participants
D. It has a positive effect on the participants who are good at logical thinking.
34. What’s the main idea of paragraph 4?
A. The result of the experiment on different age groups.
B. The way to classify participants as different learners.
C. The importance of the finger-tapping task in the study.
D. The introduction of the participants and the experimental process.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The Influence of Learning Abilities on the Effect of atDCS
B. The Importance of Motor Tasks in Cognitive Improvement
C. The Development of Non-invasive Brain Stimulation Technologies
D. A Comparative Study of Motor Task Completion in Different Age Groups
C 33. B 34. D 35. A
根据第二段“Among these is non-invasive (无创的) brain stimulation: a term covering a set of techniques that can affect brain functions non-invasively from the outside, without the need for surgery. One such promising technique, in particular, is anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (atDCS).(其中有一种技术称为无创脑刺激:这是一种涵盖了一系列技术的术语,这些技术可以从外部以非侵入的方式影响大脑功能,无需进行手术。特别是,有一种非常有前景的技术叫做阳极经颅直流电刺激(atDCS))”可知,atDCS是一种无创脑刺激技术。故选C。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Their findings suggest that individuals with less efficient learning mechanisms benefit more from stimulation, while those with optimal (最优的) learning strategies might experience negative effects.(他们的研究结果表明,学习机制效率较低的个体从刺激中获益更多,而那些拥有最优学习策略的人可能会经历负面效果)”可知,研究发现atDCS对不同学习策略的人群有不同的效果:学习机制效率较低的人受益更多,而拥有最优学习策略的人可能会受到负面影响。
根据第四段开头“The researchers employed 40 participants: 20 middle-aged adults (50 — 65 years old) and 20 older adults (over 65).(研究人员招募了40名参与者:20名中年人(50至65岁)和20名老年人(65岁以上))”介绍了实验参与者的情况,后面“Each group was further divided into those receiving active atDCS and those receiving placebo (安慰剂) stimulation. Over ten days, participants practiced a finger-tapping task designed to study motor list learning at home while receiving atDCS. The task involved copying a numerical list using a keyboard, trying to be as fast and as accurate as possible. The team then used a machine-learning model to classify participants as either “optimal” or “sub-optimal” learners, based on their first performance.(每个小组进一步分为两组:一组接受活跃的阳极经颅直流电刺激(atDCS),另一组接受安慰剂刺激。
故选A。

As a young boy, I was always a troublemaker and up to no good. I liked playing tricks and enjoyed treating animals in an unfriendly way, like running after cats crazily, making them scared at the sight of me. Besides, I often used a handmade catapult (弹弓) to shoot at birds on the trees.
All this did afford me indescribable pleasure but also got me unkind stares and blames from people around. My parents disapproved of my behavior and were constantly criticizing me for the tricks I played. I was even given a good beating from my father from time to time. Nevertheless, I ignored their warnings and did not correct my ways until an incident occurred.
One summer noon when I was eight, I was alone at home and just finished lunch. Feeling very hot and bored, I decided to hang around the neighborhood, holding my trusty catapult.
Soon, I came to Mr Smith’s house. His pet dog, big and strong, was tied to a post outside his house, lying in the shade lazily. Looking around, I found that no one was in sight. I decided to make good use of my catapult to play tricks on the massive dog. Picking up a few small stones from the ground, I aimed at the dog and fired them one by one. Several stones hit the poor dog and it began to bark (吠) loudly in pain and jump up and down. But I felt so fun that I didn’t stop doing so. Eventually, the dog’s anger was fueled and it barked wildly at me while struggling to break away from the rope. Not realizing anything wrong with my crazy behavior, I was just laughing happily.
Suddenly, the rope that tied the dog loosened and the big dog got free from its bonds. In no time, with a few powerful steps the dog was on me. Its sharp teeth sank into my leg. I screamed with pain and fright and fell to the ground, shouting out for help.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Luckily, my miserable shouts caught Mr Smith's attention. He dashed out of the house and freed the dog's teeth from my leg. Having caged the dog, Mr Smith rushed me to the clinic, where the doctor gave me an injection and dressed the wound carefully. On the way back home, I tearfully told Mr Smith the whole story. Not criticizing me, he looked me in the eye and said lovingly, “Animals are our friends that need our care and love and will treat us well if treated well".
His words left me ashamed and I decided to make a change. Instead of playing tricks on helpless animals, I did what I could to take care of them. With my father's help, I became a volunteer in our local animal shelter, feeding or walking animals. I even set aside my pocket money to contribute to charity which helps save homeless animals. Once a troublemaker, later a caregiver, I gradually won people's praise and respect I hadn't experienced before. Most importantly, never did I feel so rewarded and honored for what I did for animals.

26 Some people worry that with more robots being used ________.
A. people will be unwilling to work hard
B. human resources won’t be needed at the workplace
C. it will be harder to improve the abilities of robots
D. robots will be beyond our control
27. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Japan will try to develop robots to be used in the home.
B. The robots are well received by elderly people in Japan.
C. The Japanese government encourages foreigners to move to Japan.
D. Most Japanese citizens are against robots in the home.
C
A. Solve uncertain matters.
B. Summarize a key principle.
C. Concentrate on related things.
D. Make decisions independently.
29. Why is the book a practical guide to readers?
A. To provide readers with life values.
B. To help readers express philosophy.
C. To improve readers’ critical thinking skills.
D. To equip readers with decision-making skills.
30. What is paragraph 4 of the text mainly about?
A. Definition of simplicity. B. Rules of making decisions.
C. Benefits of stressing clarity. D. Influences of decision-making.
31. What is the article aimed at?
A. Recommending a book. B. Sharing a positive attitude.
C. Describing a simple lifestyle D. Solving philosophical problems.
D
